XviD compressed avi with 8fps and 44.1kHz

Hello people!
I use MediaInfo (mediainfo.sourceforge.net) to check fps etc on my movie files, and one film I have displays the following info:
* General
Format: AVI
Size: 788 MiB
Duration: 7mn 26s
Bitrate: 14,8 Mbps
etc...
* Video
Format: MPEG-4 Visual
Codec ID: XVID
Bitrate: 12,9 Mbps
Width: 720 px
Height: 576 px
Display aspect ratio: 4/3
Frame rate: 8.000 fps
Resolution: 24 bits
etc...
*Audio
Format: PCM
Duration: 6mn 39s
Bit rate mode: Constant
Bit rate: 2 117 Kbps
Sampling rate: 44.1 KHz
etc...
When I try to import it to Premiere CS3 I get an error message: Unsupported format or damaged file. Is it possible to convert the file to 25 fps or 23.976 and 48 KHz audio without ruining the quality completely? How?

>those links doesn't really do it for me. VirtualDub doesn't seem to like 24 bit audio
Are you saying you tried the recommended utilities and they fail like VirtualDub does?
Cheers
Eddie

  • IMAQ Create for compressed .avi - cannot open the new file afterwards with IMAQ Open

    Hi there,
i hope i'm in the right board.
I recently tried to compress avi-files i collected from various cameras throughout the last years.
At first i used VDub and ffdshow with a FFVH codec - it worked fine as long as i won't try to open the compressed avi using IMAQ Open.
I googled a bit and read a lot in these forums, tried several solutions - none of them worked.
So i gave it a last, let's call it fail-proof, try:
I took the original .avi (uncompressed, openable with IMAQ Open) and used my newly gained knowledge to use LV for the compression work, i chose from IMAQ AVI Get Filter Names the ffdshow Video Codec and built a small read-write for-loop to convert the AVI frame for frame.
All worked fine despite the problem, that i still cannot open the compressed file in IMAQ Open - and i do not know why.
I would be glad to force labview to decode and open the compressed file with a certain codec, but i found no option for this.
    Thanks in advance
    Markus
    P.S.
I'm using LabView 2010 and VAS of 02/2014.

  • Writing a Compressed AVI File in NI LabWindows/CVI with the IMAQ Vision Acquisition

I'm still facing some problems when I try to save pictures from a GigE Vision camera into a compressed avi-file in a LabWindows/CVI application on Windows7.
The task is to grab images from the camera with 30 fps to monitor a process, evaluate the grabbed pictures to find certain characteristics of the monitored process and save them in an avi-file to have the possibility to load and evaluate them once again Offline if necessary.
My questions: which compression filters can I get with the NI-Imaq Vision Acquisition and Vision Development Runtime 2012 SP1? Is a mpeg4 codec available to compress quickly and effective? Can I use a third party codec or only the ones delivered with NI-Vision?
I posted the problem two times already, but there is little response up to now. Thanks

The encoding algorithm, or codec, that's used for compression needs to present on your system. When I had done some research on this sometime back, I found that if your custom codec could align with the DirectShow architecture, then your codec would work with IMAQ AVI functions. The codecs that are available may vary from system to system, depending on what software is currently installed. • How can I import and edit Divx/Xvid codec .avi files?

Recently I changed of computer, I had Premiere CS3 in Windows and now I have CS4 in Mac. The problem is that in windows I could edit divx and xvid files, but now, when I try to import any divx/xvid file premiere has an error saying "UNSOPPORTED  COMPRESSION IN FILE".
I have installed divx and xvid codecs on the Mac and I can watch those videos too, but Premiere doesn't accept them.
    Any idea? Thanks

    Mike,
You might want to take a look at the file closely, and then decide if you wish to edit it. Know, that if you go to DVD, or any compressed format/CODEC, after the edit, there will be another quality hit.
There are CODEC's that are basically used to play a file, and then those that play, plus allow editing. DivX and Xvid, are in the former group. There could be some editors that will edit DivX, but I do not know of them. PrPro cannot effectively use the DivX CODEC to edit. Some have gotten very lucky, once the CODEC is installed, but usually one looses either the Video, or the Audio. In the cases, where it worked, OOS issues were almost always present.
    Good luck,

  • AVI with DIVX compression

    Hi,
Is it possible to get an AVI with DIVX compression out of Premiere or Media Encoder (CS6)? I have a client who's 'in house' screen system requires this format.

  • Audio compression in FCE with AUPeakLimiter and AUDynamicsProcessor

I recently edited a video with poorly recorded audio, and learn some useful things about FCE that I want to share. Hope it will help someone else. I also posted this info, with pictures, here: http://members.dslextreme.com/users/craig.lawson/fce/audio_compression.html
Although the video was shot in a studio, the audio levels ranged from nearly 0 dB to down below 36 dB. Some of the talent were experienced and projected their voices, others were inexperienced, young kids, who did not. The audio system had intermittent ground-loop hum. And one of the XLR cables gave occasional bursts of static, perhaps when someone trod on it. And then there was the rare full-scale pop. A real mess.
The destination was broadcast (community) TV. The station's audio guidelines are, "at audible levels without distortion". Not much of a guideline, so I used the guidelines in the FCE manual and set as my goal -12 dB to -24 dB (I know, the recommendation is a 6 dB range, not 12 dB, but 6 dB sounded bad; maybe they use a compressor). In other words, I want to decrease my dynamic range by 24 dB (from 36 dB to 12 dB), with a maximum at 12 dB. How to achieve this in FCE?
Several people have written about Compressor/Limiter (and it's in the manual), but I was not satisfied with the result. Instead, I used AUPeakLimiter and AUDynamicsProcessor and it worked well. These are the settings I used and why.
*Component 1: Audio Filters > Apple > AUPeakLimiter*
A Peak Limiter prevents audio signals from clipping (in FCE, that means exceeding 0 dB). It does this by turning down the volume at the loud parts, and leaving it alone otherwise. The middle of this page has useful graphs which explain peak limiting: http://www.bluehaze.com.au/unix/level.html
    Settings
*Attack: 0.01, units: seconds.* This tells AUPeakLimiter to respond to over-limit peaks within 10 msec. I chose the maximum setting for a more gradual volume changes (not sure if that is best - it may cause sudden peaks to go over limit).
*Release: 0.04, units: seconds.* When the peak has passed, return volume to normal within 40 msec. I chose the maximum setting for a more gradual volume change.
*Pre-gain: 20, units: dB.* Increase the input by 20 dB before doing the peak limiting. This makes the quiet sounds louder, and pushes the loud sounds will above the clipping limit (0 dB). But this is PRE-gain, and after applying this gain the peak limiter brings the signals above 0 dB back down. End result: my quiet sounds are louder, and my very loud sounds and perhaps only a little louder. And no clipping. This setting controls the lower value of the filter chain's dynamic range.
*Limiting amount.* FCE shows this as a setting, but in Garage Band it is a read-out. In Garage Band, it displays the amount of limiting currently being applied. I think that for FCE to display this as a setting is a program bug. Also, adjusting it doesn't do anything.
Result at this stage: all audio is loud, including the noise floor. In other words, it's like a compressor with a hard knee and low headroom.
*Component 2: Audio Filters > Apple > AUDynamicsProcessor*
A Dynamics Processor is a Compressor and Expander in one unit. The compressor decreases the dynamic range of the loud sounds, and the Expander increases the dynamic range of the quiet sounds, making them quieter. More on compression here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dynamicrangecompression
*Compression threshold: -40, units: dB.* With AUDynamicsProcessor, the compression does not begin at the threshold, but instead begins about halfway to 0 dB. With this setting, the knee is around -20 dB. The Compressor appears to have a "soft knee" (see Wikipedia), but the softness is not adjustable.
*Headroom: 4, units: dB.* The headroom setting adjusts the amount of compression. Lower headroom values result in higher compression. Think of it as the amount of allowed dynamic range above the knee. This setting controls how much peaks may exceed the filter chain's dynamic range: set headroom low if you really don't want the output to exceed your target dynamic range, and set it higher if occasional peaks above your limit is OK.
*Expansion threshold: -60, units: dB.* Sounds below this threshold are expanded. Unlike the compression threshold setting, this sets the position of the knee directly. This setting, combined with expansion ratio, reduce background noise during quiet segments.
*Expansion ratio: 2.* How much expansion to apply to sounds below the threshold. Example: with threshold at -60 dB and ratio at 2, sounds levels at -70 dB (10 dB below the threshold), and pushed down to -80 dB (20 dB below the threshold).
*Attack time: 0.01, units: seconds.* Same as for AUPeakLimiter.
*Release time: 0.100, units: seconds.* Same as for AUPeakLimiter.
*Master gain: -12, units: dB.* This applies post-gain. This setting sets the upper value of the filter chain's dynamic range.
*Comp amount.* FCE shows this as a setting, but in Garage Band it is a read-out. In Garage Band, it displays the amount of compression currently being applied. I think that for FCE to display this as a setting is a program bug. Also, adjusting it doesn't do anything.
    Summary
This filter chain effectively compressed my dynamic range, and pushed down my noise floor during quiet segments. Unfortunately, when the talent was talking quietly, the noise became apparent, but to address that requires an adaptive noise reduction filter (e.g. Sound Soap).
The dynamic range mapping created by this filter chain is not so great. Because pre-gain of AUPeakLimiter is so high, it makes the compression ratio infinite above the knee. Then AUDynamicsProcessor lowers the knee and compresses again. A better mapping would use something less than an infinite ratio, and that can be accomplished by putting AUDynamicsProcessor first in the chain. But the resulting filter chain would have more than 2 components, and FCE won't play it in real time (on my system).
If you want the effect I've described, the settings above will get you started. To tune your settings:
    1. Disable AUDynamicsProcessor, turn your speaker volume way down, and then play with the AUPeakLimiter's pre-gain until your audio falls within your chosen minimum range on the audio meter. Pay attention to the quiet sounds, and AUPeakLimiter will take care of the loud ones.
    2. When your lower range looks good, turn on AUDynamicsProcessor, set master gain, and then play with the compression threshold and headroom. Pay attention to the loud sounds.
    3. Finally adjust the expander settings to quiet the noise floor.
Once you have filter settings you like, apply them to your top-most sequence.

Thanks Sasha for the reply, The Audio Rate on my files are 48KHz and Higher, when I mention the 16 bit I was talking about the Audio Format. The files I have are 16 bit integer where my sequence says it 32 bit floating point Audio Format (not really sure what that means). Would you know why the audio would be perfect on my laptop and not on the pc that is connected to the TV? Could it be because of the Audio Format? because I don't see what else it could be... :/

  • AMC export avi with no compression takes AGES!  across network

    Heres one for the pro's
Im having some really anoying slow behavior with premiere and media encoder.
         OS=windwos vista business x64
         RAM = 12gigs
         CPU= 2 X quads
Video card = bad *** nvidia card
SAN = Isilon cluster 3 X nodes, gigabit dual teamed NIC connection
    bla bla bla
Ok. So i have about an 8 minute project, nothing too fancy, trying to export an uncompressed avi to the network at 720p resolution to the cluster storage array,  and adobe media encoder gets pretty slow near the end of the export, and is generally just a slow hog. Its not using but 10% of my CPU power, and its also not using any where close to my max NIC card throughput.
Anyone out there really good at FINE Tuning CS4 to the max??
    Please dont respond with
Check driver updates, adobe updater, bla bla bla,,,,   im not a moron.
    thanks guys!!!!

Network output has never been a problem for me, even without teamed NIC's. OK, it is slower than local disks, but it has never taken AGES.
First, do you experience the same problem when outputting to a local disk? If yes, then something with the export seems amiss. Then we need further details on your export settings to start with. If no, your network connection may be the troublesome part. What server OS are you using, what overhead/security can be degrading throughput on the NIC's? Are you using virtualization, if so what software? With other tasks on the network, do you experience the same lagging response?

    Hi,
I don't have GraphicConverter and since it is shareware and money is tight right now, I tried to find a freeware image converter on the internet for the Mac. I didn't. I remembered that I have Photoshop Essentials. It came with my Canon scanner. I installed it and looked to see if it had a converter of some type in it. I saw that you can import a file, work with it and then save it to what you want. I thought that I had already done that with the Nikon files. Anyway, I tested it. I imported one of the Nikon images into it and saved it as a jpeg- even though it appeared to be a jpeg already. Bingo! It worked. It imported into my video editing program. I selected two other files from the Nikon shots and did the same thing. I change the name of the picture and then save it as a jpeg in Photoshop Essentials 2. The two files imported into my video editing program. I then went to the two original Nikon files that I had imported into Photoshop Essentials 2 and changed the names of them- leaving the jpeg extension on to see if they would import, they did not. So, as you said, there must by some kind of Metadata with those files. Bringing them into Photoshop Essentials 2 and saving them as jpegs fixed it. Because of what happened, I just went through my approx. 4,000 pictures and selected about 1,400 again for a new family DVD. I created folder and exported 1,446 jpeg pictures into it. Then I opened by video editing program and imported the folder. All 1,446 pictures came in. I didn't try it with FCE and iMovie, since I the program I regularly use is Adobe Premiere. I may try it later, but I am pretty confident that if the pictures can be imported into Adobe Premiere, they can also be imported into FCE and iMovie(unless there is a number limit.)
All this has taken place over several days. I am glad that it is figured out.
    Thank you for the help.

  • Import avi with format 1170x905

    Good afternoon,
I am using Premiere Elements version 7.
We recorded with another tool the use of a program. You could say that we now have a screenshot movie. The size of this avi is 1170x905 and a framerate of 200.00. Now I want to import it into Premiere Elements and add text, cut it and so on.
Problem: When I import it, the quality is always significantly worse than the original. I tried different settings. I can only set it when I create a new project. There are some formats for computer files, but I can not change the size. The fields are disabled. Later on I want to export it in exactly the same format.
What can I do? Reducing the quality is not an option.
    Thanks,
    Sonia

    Sonia,
I think that the real deal breaker in using Premiere Elements 7 for this task is the frame rate, 200 frames per second. Also, you say that you want to export, keeping the same format as the import which you describe as .avi. What kind of .avi do you have, since .avi is just the wrapper which can contain a variety of compression types?
I will toss out a few features of Premiere Elements 7 which do not come together for me to say "this is the answer".
1.Premiere Elements 7, New Project Dialog, use the project preset for now of NTSC DV Standard or Widescreen (or PAL counterpart if you are in a PAL region). This is not critical because of what comes next. Once the workspace opens, go to Edit Menu/Preferences/General and uncheck "Default Scale to Frame Size" so that you will be seeing your 1170 x 905 image in the Monitor in the Edit area and not it scaled to the project preset frame size of 720 x 480.
    2. Import your video into Premiere Elements 7, using Get Media/Files & Folders from the hard drive save location. Go to the Project Media View and right click that video file there, select Interpret Footage. In the Interpret Footage dialog, Frame Rate/Assume this frame rate, type in 200 for fps.
    3. The frame size should not be the issue in the export, but the frame rate is. I have not found an export with a frame rate greater than 60 fps.
Example: if you went File Menu/Export/Movie, Settings, used Microsoft AVI, you could type in your frame size of 1170 x 905, but the max fps appears to be 60, no where near 200. Then, since I do not what type of AVI that you have, this route may be entirely in appropriate.
    Just some thoughts.

  • Is there quality degradation when going avi to VOB and back?

    Hi,
Long time home editor with Pinnacle and now Adobe. But things I have always wanted to know:
    Storage solutions
If I burn a DVD movie and want to bring that movie back into Premiere will the quality degrade in the new project?
Can I get more video onto a DVD as a DVD movie than storing the avi on DVD?
If so, I would be inclined to store video in DVD movie format as long as I can get the quality back when I grab the VOBs for other editing.
    Thanks
    Phil

Yes. If you start with a DV-AVI Type II file, you have a very lightly compressed file. When you go to DVD-Video, you have compressed to MPEG-2, but with SD material, played on a TV, you will still have an image, that is as good as it gets. Now, you bring that MPEG-2 into Premiere to re-edit, and the file will either be converted to DV-AVI Type II, by Premiere, or by a 3rd party program. It will be slightly degraded at that point. Where the hit really comes in is when you then Export that to DVD-Video via MPEG-2 compression yet again.
For my archiving, I keep the tapes, then Archive (I use Premiere Por's Project Manager, but PE has Archiver), to keep my Captured DV-AVI Type II's, plus the full Project. These go onto a series of 2TB external hard drives. If I anticipate needing to just burn additional DVD's later on, I'll burn to a folder, and keep that intact also. Otherwise, one can make a duplicate DVD from a "master," and not have to re-Transcode, or re-Compress.

  • Compressing AVI files

How do I compress an AVI file on a mac?!? and is is possible to open or extract an exe file?!

    Hi,
    compress AVI to what ?
A ZIP file you can do with the Finder.
Opening/running an .exe file requires Windows.
If the .exe file is a self-extracting archive file, you can have a look at some Packer apps: http://www.macupdate.com/search.php?arch=intel&keywords=ZIP&os=macosx

  • Simultaneous capture with usb and gige cameras ?

    Hi,
I am unable to capture (continuously) simultaneously from a USB and a GigE camera, is there a limitation in Labview ? Both cameras work if I use them one at a time. I am using Labview 2012. Both cameras are IMAQdx devices and I am using IMAQdx VIs.
    Thanks,
    Best,
    Saumil

I have just converted to low level, just in case. Not tested yet...
    USB camera: USB 2.0, 10 frames/sec, 1280x1024 -> about 13 MBytes/sec
    GigE camera: 300 frames/sec, 640x480 -> about 90 MBytes/sec
So both cameras data rates are within their respective interface limits. Although when I started to archive raw frames from the USB camera, everything in labview became super slow. The slowness was reduced dramatically once I started storing to compressed AVI files (rates went from 15 Mbytes to approx. 1.5 Mbytes/sec). I have not tested  archival with the GigE camera yet, I am expecting troubles, just dont know how severe.
    Thanks for your help,
    Saumil

  • .pdtv.xvid-lol.avi: which codec?

I have a file with the extension ".pdtv.xvid-lol.avi" that I can't get QT (or WMP) to play.
Get info. says it's an .avi file. I also downloaded and installed an .xvid codec, but nothing seems to be working.
    Anyone have any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Glenn

Hi, its an avi file (apparently.) If you can open it in a player then you can determine what video and/or audio codecs you might need to play the content.
Components (codecs) and other players are linked here...

  • Problem with PremiereProCS5 and AfterEffectsCS5 Dinamic Link!

Problem with PremiereProCS5 and AfterEffectsCS5 Dinamic Link!
I installed PremiereProCS4, and after, "Adobe Master Collection Suite CS5" in Italian Language, with PremiereProCS5 and AfterEffectsCS5 on OS Windows7x64Bit.
I made a first composition with AfterEffects, from PremierePro by choosing "Adobe Dinamic Link">"Replace with AE Composition".
After that, I made another second version of the same project, directly with AfterEffects.
I want replace this AE version with existing version, in PremierePro.
Thus, I selected "Adobe Dinamic Link">"Import AE Composition".
    1) But, the problem is that the new, fresh AE composition is not found!
The Dinamic Link, in PremierePro, doesn't refresh the window where it is located the new AE Composition called "n°2" made last with AE, (not with DynamicLink)!
There are available 3 files, that I made, but all the files display only the old composition called "n°1", made with DynamicLink, and with "Replace with AE Composition" command!
The composition made with AE directly, is not displayed!
    Why?
In fact, I tried to right click the clip, in PremiereProCS5 timeline, choosed "Replace with Clip">"From Folder" and selected the last imported AE composition: the composition is allways the OLD file made with DynamicLink, not the file made directly with AE!
    Why?
    Help!

"...or if you must use multiple projects, start each one from scratch instead of duplicating and renaming..."
    Yes!
I made from scratch these new projects with AECS5, called:
         "Montaggio_02_CS5_04_Franzi_AECS5 - Composizione collegata 02.avi" and
         "Montaggio_02_CS5_04_Franzi_AECS5 - Composizione collegata 03.avi",
    not renamed, nor duplicated.
-But PremierePro and DynamicLink doesn't display those in the window!
