  • Music not showing up in library after drag and drop (7.0)

Music will not show up in library after draging and dropping .mp3's into itunes. Also won't show up if I try the File > Add Folder to Library. The processing files box shows up like its going to work, but it just doesn't. I have tried many differnet mp3's, some actually DID import.
Also, double clicking on an mp3 will bring up itunes, but it will not load or play the song.
I currently have 55.5GB of music, and 10,158 songs. Not sure if that has anything to do with it.

Try holding down the Shift key in Windows when launching iTunes. In the resulting dialogue you will get the option to create a new library or navigate to an existing one. The default location for your iTunes library is in \Documents and Settings\Username\My Documents\My Music\iTunes\. Look in there and see if you have more than one library file (they have the extension .itl) If you have more than one try opening them in turn, you may find your original library is still intact: How to open an alternate iTunes Library file

  • Is This Hardware Upgrade Feasible?

My current system is an xw6200 HP workstation.  The display adapter is a GeForce GTX 260 OC, having 896 MB of GDDR3 memory (on a 448-bit bus), DirectX 10 support and a default GPU clock rate of 576 MHz.  This adapter drives 2 x NEC MultiSync LCD2690WUXi displays in 1920x1280. I have two Internal WD Caviar Black 1.0TB SATA HDs. There is a RAID controller but I'm not using it. The CPUs are two 3.60 GHz Xeon Model 4, Stepping 1, dual core with hyper threading turned on.  The memory is currently 2 x 2GB DDR2, 400/PC2-3200 Modules, Kingston KTH-XW8200/2G.  My OS is Windows 7 Home Premium x64 SP1.  My questions are with regard to CS5 Premiere Pro and AE.
My hardware gets bogged down when I try to edit a 1080p HD project.  The timeline is almost impossible to scrub in such a project (even with audio scrubbing turned off).  My hardware can't seem to keep up with previewing unrendered clips. I'm wondering if it's practical to upgrade this system so that I can use it (on a hobbyist basis; not professionally) to produce 1080p projects from my Canon 1D Mark IV camera.  I have done a couple of small 1080p projects already but I encountered agonizingly slow renders and frustrating timeline previews with many scrubbing failures.
If I install 2 x 4GB DDR2 RAM modules (Kingston KTH-XW8200/4G) in the unused slots, would this give me enough of a performance improvement so that I could successfully scrub the timeline in a 1080p project?
The GTX260OC is not listed in Adobe's approved CUDA adapters, but it does have a small bit of CUDA functionality.  Does Premiere Pro use it? Would upgrading this adapter to an nVidia Quadro 4000, with 2GB GDDR5 memory make a noticeable improvement?  How much does the bus speed in this (old) xw6200 workstation slow things down?  Is it worth upgrading memory and the display adapter with this MoBo?
All input and suggestions appreciated.   Regards, Mardon

    Harm & Bill,
Thanks to both of you for making it clear that I'd be foolish to try and modernize my 5-year old system. I guess I probably knew this before I read your replies but I didn't want to admit it to myself.  Your "tough love" about wasting my money was just what I needed.
So I'm off to investigate some i7 systems.  I see there's lots of posts in this forum about specs for new systems, so I'll read them all.  I live in Canada and I'm not sure if anyone here provides ready-made systems for CS5 video editing (like http://www.adkvideoediting.com/ does in the U.S.)  I have found a few companies that sell i7 gaming systems.  Is an i7 gaming system really any different than an i7 video editing system?   NCIX.com offers a lot of customizable i7 systems.  Harm, I'm not sure why you specifically mentioned an over clocked 950.  Would a 970 or a 990X be an alternative to over clocking a 950?
At least I think I'm now on the right track after having discarded my 'upgrade' idea based upon your feedback.
    Thanks and regards, Mardon

  • Photoshop CS4 & Lightroom 2.6 X64 funktionieren nicht mehr

    Hallo,

  • Boot Camp - Snow Leopard MAJOR ISSUE

Ok, I'm sort of new to the Apple arena and have been running a MacPro under BootCamp with Windows XP on the other side. I set BootCamp up to run Windows priority and thus to get the Apple side I held down the Alt key at start up and selected Mac HD to go to Apple.
Furthermore, I been working on the Apple side more and more to learn FCP. So, I recently updated FCS2 to FCS3 . . AND . . while at it updated to Snow Leopard. Now comes the change and the problem.
Since upgrading to Snow Leopard I had not started up Windows even once, because the boot up priority changed from Windows default to Mac default. Now perhaps that should have alarmed me but it didn't because again I am trying to get more FCP screen time to learn it and thus decided I liked that boot process and would just leave it.
Well, today I booted with the Alt key and selected Windows and sure enough Windows booted HOWEVER the mouse will move all over the screen BUT it cannot click or select anything on the screen. Also, when moving the cursor to the task bar an hour meter appears AND one can do nothing. In addition, right click does nothing and CntlAltDel does nothing, nor does Esc or any other key(s) for that matter.
I have two MAJOR pieces of work on the Windows side that I need to finish up that include over 200 man hours of work and even if I could just get it running for a matter of one day I would be fine because as I have already said, I am moving to FCP and those two are all that is left in Avid.
Any suggestions? Please anyone help. The one project could result in a major lawsuit that could cost me over 4000 + legal + the over 200 hours I have paid for already. Thanks in advance to anyone who responds.

OK I got it working but what a nightmare. I will outline it here for those so coming to the same threshold.
    If the above happens try:
    1. Boot and chose Win disc couple times.
    2. Boot and chose Mac disc and insert the SL and explore not install.
    3. Shut down.
    4. Boot and chose Win disc.
    5. Screen should now be operatble and the keyboard and mouse functional.
    6. The last option is Boot Camp drivers.
Don't go haywire when it uninstalls all the drivers then installs them and they are not all there. Also, I'm not sure you even have to do all this although I let it in accordance with the way it suggested it wanted and it took me forever to get it all straightened up and I'm still updating Windows and the like.
Also, IE 8.0 simply WILL NOT install nor open any more and thus no Windows Updates. Looks like my Windows/BootCamp update has been ruined by the SL update. Bummer, cuz I will now have to re-set-up the 2, XW8200's that I just disassembled to get rid of and thus I'll be back on PC/Windows . . again!! :o(

  • BSOD Windows 8.1 - ATTEMPTED_EXECUTE_OF_NOEXECUTE_MEMORY

Since the installation of the Windows 8.1 update to Windows Server 2012 Essentials the BSOD has rendered the computer useless. This appears to be with the disk adapter drivers and has occurred on at least 2 different HBAs. The errors are always of ATTEMPTED_EXECUTE_OF_NOEXECUTE_MEMORY.
I am running a HP xw8200 workstation with a simple network configuration. It had 2 HBA cards when the BSOD started:
LSI SAS3041E-R – which had the boot disk
ADDONICS ADS3GX4R5-E – 2 cards installed to support external disk docking stations
The first BSOD were not traceable to the disk driver but happened in the NTkernel. I suspected that the HBA driver embedded into the OS was the source but could not identify it from the memory dump file. It is important to note that the latest drivers for
the LSI HBA are for Windows Vista dated June 13, 2011. When I try to update the drivers on-line the response is always – the drivers are current. LSI support stated that there are no drivers for Windows 2012. This is considered a legacy card but it was one
that HP used in the workstation when the product was shipping.
Thinking a hardware issue I replaced a card with a new one and no change.
I purchased an LSI SAS 9211-4i SGL with the expectation that this card would address the driver issue – it has support for Windows 8.1 and recent driver updates. However, the PCIe bus interface between the card and the workstation were not compatible, in
spite of the specs implying they should work. The card failed to initialize on boot. LSI support stated this was likely a bus issue. Attempts to get the card to initialize failed thus the boot was never reached.
I then changed approach and shifted the boot drives to the ADDONICS ADS3GX4R5-E. The computer would boot and this also meant one less HBA in the chassis. Note that there are 2 Addonics HBA in the chassis. The BSOD persisted but now the module name is:
    MODULE_NAME: Si3124r5
    IMAGE_NAME:  Si3124r5.sys
This corresponds to the Silicon Image chip Si 3124 R5 – PCI/PCI-x to 4 Port SATA300 on the Addonics. The latest 64 bit driver is 4/23/2010 for Windows 7. Checking driver status from Windows Server 2012 indicates this is the latest driver. When I tried to
update the drivers using the Silicon Image drivers they also said the latest are installed.
In addition to these efforts I have made sure the display card drivers are current, only the most essential software is running on the server and all the other drivers are current. In spite of these efforts, everything points to the HBA drivers and that
they are incompatible with Windows 8.1 update.
The workstation running Windows Server 2012 Essentials does a BSOD every 5 – 20 minutes making it effectively inoperative.
Currently, the only solution is to replace the workstation with a server which directly supports Windows Server 2012 Essentials and migrate from the current workstation to the replacement server. Not a pleasant prospect.

    UPDATE
In order to rule out any hardware issues the MB was replaced. The processors and memory were transferred.
Brought up the computer in steps to make sure if there were any BSOD the source could be isolated.
One ADDONICS ADS3GX4R5-E was inserted and used as the host for the boot disk. Stable configuration.
Installed the LSI SAS3041E-R and it exhibited the same pattern as before – after a few minutes of operation BSOD. Removed card from the system.
Insert 2nd ADDONICS ADS3GX4R5-E. System is stable.
Then connected the other 6 eSATA cables into the 2X ADDONICS ADS3GX4R5-E and CAT5 cable into the MB nic, in the final configuration.
Before boot completes A MACHINE_CHECK_EXCEPTION (9c) BSOD occurs with this fault:
    SYMBOL_NAME:  intelppm!C1Halt+2
    FOLLOWUP_NAME:  MachineOwner
    MODULE_NAME: intelppm
    IMAGE_NAME:  intelppm.sys
    BUGCHECK_STR:  0x9C_GenuineIntel
    DEFAULT_BUCKET_ID:  WIN8_DRIVER_FAULT_SERVER
Removed the computer and placed on the bench. Now only 2 cables are connected to one of the ADDONICS ADS3GX4R5-E cards – this is the only change in configuration. Computer boots and runs normally.
From this I can only conclude the same inference as before, the drivers for these two adapters are incompatible with Windows 2012. Further, when Windows 2012 Server Essentials was installed in August it was stable and had no BSOD. Only subsequent, have these
BSOD occurred. I am making the assumption that Windows 8.1 update is a likely source but I do not have the KB which may be responsible. The time frame for the first occurrence of the BSOD fits this period.
Yes, it may be possible to do more detailed analysis of the MEMORY.DMP and mini.dmp files. But since these are legacy adapters and will not get driver updates making this configuration work is assumed to be zero.
Yes, it might also be possible to roll back the Windows Updates to pinpoint one or more updates to reach a stable configuration from the past.
Both of these options would take considerable time from solving the immediate problem.
This is a simple server in an operational environment which has been down 3+ weeks. Aside from DHCP and AD the 2X ADDONICS ADS3GX4R5-E cards host >27TB of mass store in 2 storage pools. A lesson learned from this is that given that any replacement must
have hardware which interfaces to the storage pools with the latest Windows 8.1 drivers; the most likely course of action is a new computer.

  • Xw6200 workstation 1gb sticks not working

Hi guys how you doing. I registered on these forums due to a little problem i had today. I recently purchased memory for my
    xw6200. Its the kingston kth-xw8200/1gb.
    http://cgi.ebay.com/Kingston-KTH-XW8200-1G-1GB-400MHz-DDR2-400-PC2-3200-/250653130144?cmd=ViewItem&p...
According to the memory specs this memory is designed for my workstation and should be working with no blips. Ive tried reseating the memory in this configuration
    slot 1-1gb
    slot 2-1gb
    slot 3-none
    slot 4-none
but the system just repeats 5 beeps on startup and wont boot.
I know its not a problem with the mobo b/c i have 2gb in there right now (512x4) so maybe the ram is just doa because it is supported by my system. Im not sure. any help would be appreciated, thanks

The slots 1 & 2 you are referring to should be closest to the serial port.  If there is a BIOS update available for the computer install it.  Test the two 1GB DIMMs one at a time to see if one works and one fails.  If that happens then you do have a bad DIMM.  If they both fail then there is more to it than that.  In which case you should contact Kingston tech support by phone, (800) 435-0640, to verify if the memory is indeed authentic Kingston ram.  Many counterfeit parts are being sold on Ebay these days.

  • Logitech Z-5300 and Audigy ZS 5.1 PROBL

I have read the FAQ. I have searched the posts. I have had this sound card for less than a day and I can't get 5. to test out on the THX or Creative test programs. I can get sound on all the speakers but I think it is stereo. If I swap the cables and test again I can hear the front and back speakers but with it connected correctly I only get the FL and FR. I see this problem on a lot of the other posts but I have yet to see an answer that I haven't tried. I have reseated the cables. I have uninstalled the driver and reinstalled off the CD, tested and then installed off the web support. If this is a problem with just Logitech and the Audigy then I guess the Audigy looses because I can take it back. I am a reasonable man so here is your chance to fix this for me and what seem to ba a lot of other people on this board.
    Robert

Well! ... I started the HP XW8200 this morning after a long pervious evening trying to source out the problem and guess what, the speaker test is now working! I don't know what has changed other than perhaps the driver needs a few extra reboots to config properly. This is something that I have puzzled over since I started working with computers. They are digital. A one or a zero. An on or an off. It should work or not work. They have more moods than most of the people I meet on a daily basis. Perhaps it just needed a good nights sleep.:smileyvery-happy:

  • Install AudioPCI as second sound c

    Hi,
I have a working on-board SoundMAX audio (on an HP xw8200 workstation) and would like to add my tusty old AudioPCI as a second sound card. When I install the AudioPCI card and start XP, the AudioPCI works fine, but it has replaced the on-board SoundMax rather than working along side it!
How do I install the Creative AudioPCI such that it does not un-install the SoundMAX.
There are no device conflicts that I can see in Device Manager, with the AudioPCI un-installed the SoundMAX is PCI 0:3:0, while the AudioPCI is PCI 6::0 IRQ 22, I/O 4000-403F.
    TIA...

Some mobos disable onboard sound if they detect another soundcard. That might be happening here. But if it didn't, you'd need to disable it yourself. (Futher explanation here.)Message Edited by Katman on 02-09-2006 09:37 PM

Blu-ray: "fatal error", Code: "6"; "Note:"
That's the error I got when Encore CS3 started to actually write to the bluray burner.
It's worked many other times but this time it did everything except the burn.
If I reboot or change blanks it doesn't seem to matter. When it gets to the stage of starting to write to the disc, I get the message above.
    Real helpful, right?
Hope there some "real" help here.
    Thanks,

I can't seem to get any response here so I'm wondering if there is any list of Encore errors on the Adobe site? Errors like this are pretty meaningless unless you have a list of explanations. Any cluses who might have one?

  • DVCPro HD presets

    Hello,
my appologies if this is too rudimentary, but I am working on CS 5.5 using DVCPro HD Varicam footage and am wondering which preset to use?  There are presets for both YUV and for Motion JPEG.  My footage is 720p at 60fps.
It is staight video without any gamma correction or film rec from the Varicam.  The signal path is from my deck, AG hd1200a via SDI into a Decklink SDI only card.  The deck also has firewire I/O.  However the card has no firewire but the PC (HP xw8200) does.  There are presets for both 10 bit and 8 bit, and I know that the codec on the tape is only 8 bit, so I don't think I will gain by going 10 bit on capture.  The output from both looks good to my client, but I would like to know which is best for future projects.  Thanks.

When you create a new project you are presented
with a menu of sequence settings to choose from.
You can skip this step by hitting "Cancel", then import your media
and create the type of sequence that best suits your footage.
How do I choose the right sequence settings?

  • Premiere Pro CS4 crashing.. Advice please

A customer of mine has CS4 and it constantly crashes. This can be at any point at start up or after 2 -3 hours work. The hardware is as follows.
HP Workstation XW8200 Xeon cpu3.6Ghz, 4GB system Memory DDR2/400Mhz running Win XP sp3. I have upgraded the Graphics card to a Nvidia Geforce 9800GT with the latest driver (6.14.11.9107) I have turned of indexing on the drive. The HDD arrangement is Raid 0 using two disks with a total of 297MB, there are no other HDD and everything uses this volume.
The sound card is the standard on board that is shipped and is Sound Max the driver is the latest available from HP but is dated 2003.
A crash file is generated when the application crashes although I dont have this at the moment.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
    Pete

In this system the "crashing" can occur at any point, sometimes it happens almost as soon as the application is launched other times it can be minutes or even hours into working. The application stops responding and a message is generated saying that the application has had to close and a log file has been generated. There is no bsod and the rest of the system works ok, it is the application (cs4) that seems to be having the problem.
I had a feeling that the disk setup was not correct but I have inherited this problem so am coming in half way through so to speak. I personally don't have much experience with premiere pro but have ownership of this problem so need to get it sorted. To that end what would be your recommendation regarding the disk setup? Say the most basic that would function without any problems and say a setup that would provide some redundancy.
As far as the system itself is concerned it is a clean install with only AV (sophos) and MS office.
Many many thanks for your response so far.

  • Premiere Pro Project Manager does NOT include After Effects files.

Warning: Premiere Pro "Project Manager" does NOT include the After Effects 'dynamic linked composition' files associated with the project when "Collect File and Copy to New Location" resulting in the incomplete and loss of all dynamic linked compositions in the new project destination ( folder or disc drive ) .. I know this also includes Photoshop dynamic links and assume includes Audition audio files as well.

Here's the best way: Personal Responsibility.
Put all of your project files in one file. Stop asking PPro to do it for you. It's simple. This is a no-brainer. If you create a linked comp, create it in the same file as your PPro project and files. When you send it to Encore, create the Encore project in the same folder. Works all the time, every time. When you're sure that you're finished with the project for the forseeable future, move the entire folder off your workstation into storage. Do I move a copy of each asset (video clip, image, audio, etc.) into this folder before I import it to my AE or PPro project? Yes I do. Is it overly time-consuming? Not really. I can fly on my machine. Does it beat not being able to open a project later. Oh yes. Yes it does. I'd say I did 50 projects last year this way. When I occasionally had to move a project folder back to the workstation, I had no problems. Everything worked as it did before I off-loaded it. That's because I take personal responsibility for my projects. It's imporatnat that theyt work, especially if I end up having to hand it off to a third party down the road.
BTW, my workstation is RAID 0. If you are using anything less, you need to upgrade. What I'm trying to tell you is that my system works very well. I have not always done things the right way. I have had my share of frustration. The point is that I learned. Now I'm passing that on to you. I use CS5 on an HP Z800 with a measely 12 gigs of ram and a single i7 quad core and the aforementioned RAID 0 configuration and a hacked Nvidia GTS 450. It works quite well. I'm sure I would do even better with another i7, 12 more gigs of ram and a Quadro 4000, but this is what they give me to use.
Additionally, I'm using CS5 at home on a MUCH older HP xw8200 dual dual Xeons, 12 gigs of ram and software-only MPE. Guess what? It works quite well.

  • Multitrack editing and hardware selection

Hello and thanks for taking a look at this thread.  I am running PrPro CS 5.51 on an older workstation:
HP xw8200 with 2x dual core xeons at 2.3 Ghz and 4GB of ram, with an nVidia card running GPU acceleration on Windows 7 home 64bit.
I am using the multitrack feature cutting music shot on HD and captured using Blackmagic presets at 720p 29.97fps.
This is an uncompressed 8 bit codec.  I ran the decklink hard drive utility and it tests our fine with my raid.  In fact that utility says I could do 1080i at 10 bit uncompressed.
I am having trouble with the multitrack playing back audio while cutting and recurring stoppage of playback when in the multitrack window.
I also have trouble capturing in the DVCPro HD codec, it just won't do it.  I would have thought that compressed 100 mb video would be easier to capture than uncompressed.
I am wondering if there is a better preset to capture to?  There are so many presets in PrPro from which to choose. My orginal footage is from a tape based Varicam at 720p.
I am also wondering if my hardware is just too slow to handle this.
When editing bogs down I have pulled up Windows task manager and the CPU is at max.  Is this normal?  Should I be looking for a dual quad core machine with more ram.  If so how much more power and speed will I need to use all the newer features?  Thanks  Jack

Yeah, your system is definitely underspecc'd... this thread actually belongs over in the hardware forum, and one of the mods may move it, so don't be surprised if it gets moved.
Most of us have found that processors in the i7-9xx line have done a very good job for us, and are pretty much the fastest things out there, definitely best bang for your buck. Also, while 8GB of memory is the minimum requirement from Adobe, 12GB+ is required to really USE the software effectively. I routinely run multicam tracks with mixed HD and 4k footage, and I'm running a relatively "slow" i7-920 with 12GB of Ram and a GTX-285 graphics card, with stuff spread across four logical disks, two of which are RAID arrays (one for OS/Programs, RAID array for projects and scratch, RAID array for data, and single drive for exports).
I think the reason you're having trouble with the DVCPro HD codec is that, because it is compressed, it requires the CPU to "unpack" the footage, frame by frame, where uncompressed doesn't require that unpacking process.
I'm sure one of the hardware gurus like Harm will post back with ideas on a better specc'd system, but just throwing numbers around, I'd say you should be able to build a well-powered system for under $2k. Also, don't forget that hard drives are important in this equation as well. I notice you said you were running a RAID, which is good because that probably means you've got your stuff on a different set of drives than your OS and Programs. But as you research a more powerful system, make sure to keep hard drives in mind as you go. Generally a minimum of three logical drives are recommended: one for OS/Programs, one for Project Files and Scratch disk, and one for your actual data.
