XY controller assignment

I want to automate a graphpoint in a plug-in (antares throat, and want to control the length and width of the section of throat at the same time) I have an XY pad on my controller surface, I usually just use automation quick access but I need to assign one parameter to the X axis and one to the Y axis. Does anyone have a suggestion? Is there a window I can go to and just assign a midi CC# to these parameters?

Hi Balie,
You're controller probably does transmit a CC for each axe. So try "learning" with quick access or watching incoming data.
There is a window called "controller assignments" accessible through QAccess

  • Controller Assignment - Bug

I have two issues with the Controller Assignment window. It has only a few manual assignments, the QuickAccess and a few MIDI faders from my PC1600 MIDI controller.
    1) Most of the time when I get a Logic crash, it wipes out all the assignments in the Controller Assignment window. After a reboot the whole page is blank and everything is gone. It looks like the Logic crash corrupts the "com.apple.logic.pro.cs" file where the information is stored.
    2) Now a have a new issue. I can't make any new assignments in that window. When I click the "Learn Mode" button the parameters above will show up and disappear right away. Seems like the Button doesn't stick. If I erase Logic's preference file "com.apple.logic.pro.plist" then it will work again. I'm not ready to toss my preference file. Besides redoing all the settings in the Preference Settings window, I would loose my custom Color palette and all the Favorite checkboxes in the Apple Loop Browser. (To store those information in the preference file is a stupid idea in the first place,. Even I sent Apple lots of feedback since L7, it is still there and therefor completely useless for exactly that reason.)
Does anybody have the same problem or maybe a solution regarding the Controller Assignment?

I'm sorry to say that i have a mackie logic control and 8 wiped out the hardware chip. i know everyone say's software can't effect hardware but we now know it's true. I don't have a solution but apple doesn't know how to fix it either. I have had so many problems with 8 that Apple gave me a new computer because it corrupted my system software. The logic techs i spoke with suggested backing down to 7.10.11 and tiger. when i had my studio running on 7 everything worked perfectly. supposedly there are a lot of people out there that have no problems with 8 but there are some very serious issues, I suggest you call the support guys for your board and apple for 8. I spent the last 8 weeks trouble shooting one thing or another. Be careful some things created more problems. I wish you luck and I'm sorry I couldn't help more. Just so you know I erased my hard drive twice and the second time i went one at a time to try and figure if maybe something else was effecting everything.
guess what the 3rd item was 8 and everything went down hill again. finally apple replaced the computer and i'm definitely not using 8. good luck

  • Sculpture automation & Controller assignment issues

    Hey guys,
I have an instance on Sculpture in a project i am working on. Everything is fine until the point where i try to manually write some automation in the arrange window. As soon as I select the parameter i want to change (LFO1 rate in this case) the sound of sculpture gets all weird and sounds nothing like the one before.
Is this some kind of bug? has anyone encountered this?
I also have another question and as im posting this anyway ill just put it here.
Im trying to set up a nanoKontrol2. Ctrl+k, created several modes (fader, es2, ultrabeat etc). I've assigned several buttons to switch between the modes but the assigned functions wont operate until i also choose that particular instrument in the arrange window.
Is there a way around this? i.e switch bet modes and actually affect that instrument without having to use a mouse to choose it?
Im also having problems with the fader mappings when trying to control volume levels of multi output instruments exs24, ultrabeat. When i move a fader of the overall instrument only the volume of one (unassigned) fader of lets say output 3-4 of that instrument will get affected. Im i doing something wrong?
    Cheers

I'm not sure if this will help: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nvBmsMB2XSQ&feature=PlayList&p=5B14BDD35A022ED3&i ndex=45
I spent a whole day following the above advice, assigning controls for my M-Audio keyrig 25 to 18 different logic native plugins (Channel EQ, Guitar Amp Pro, Tape Delay, etc etc). And then assigning'no-mode mode change' (if you follow me) to different letters on my 'caps lock keyboard'. This worked great yesterday. Now today it's all flaky: The caps lock keyboard doesn't change modes anymore, and only one of the assignment 'maps' seems to work. (Even making sure all target plug ins were on the same SELECTED track, and the plugin in question had 'focus' by clicking on it). Does anyone know if there's a known issue with controller assignment recall in Logic Pro (8)?

  • Controller Assign Problem

Can't seem to assign my midi controller to control Master Output.
I've setup pan, volumes, etc for all tracks but not the Master.
In the controller assignment expert view i can select:
    Class: Channel Strip
    Channel Strip: Master
But the parameter setting (which should say volume) is always greyed out.
    I've also tried doing:
Logic Pro>Preferences>Control Surfaces>Learn Assignment for "Volume"
but as soon as i change the fader bank dropdown to master it greys out the volume parameter.
    Any ideas?
    Many thanks

  • Controller Assignment Question

Hello, i was wondering if anyone could steer my in the right direction on this problem I have with controller assignments. See, i want to use Logic 7.1 on my Powerbook in a live situation with some midi controller knobs. The question is, how can i set up controller assignments so that i can have different assignments per song ( which has totally different tracks and plugins) ? I broke out the manual and read something about modes and zones, but cannot figure this out for the life of me, or know if this is the right direction to go in.
I create the controller assignments for one song, then when i open up the next song, they seem to be interfering with each other. I suppose the controller function isnt particularly meant for this, but is there any way i can get around this problem?
Thank you for taking the time to read this! I really appreciate any help.

When you use the "Learn mode", you bypass the Enviornment all together and Logic directly maps the controller info to the AU plug-in (or other control parameter).
A quick and dirty way to (maybe) resolve this would be to make your midi controller send different channels on for each song. Therefore, song 1 would respond to assigned midi key commands on channel 1, song 2 would listen for channel 2, etc...I don't have Logic in front of me, but I think this might work. It's not the most elegant solution, but it might work. Another similar idea would be to put a transformer and shift all your CC different values (e.g. song 1, CC#1 would be CC#21 for song 2, CC#2 on song 1 would be CC#22 on song 2). And if you want to contol the same parameter from song to song, don't transform the CC (this is obvious, but I want to point it out).
To reiterate, this is not the most elegant solution and I could be completely wrong, but this might be a quick fix.
The best way (in my opinion) is wire cables (with transformers) in the environment to the audio object that you want to control. I haven't been able to get that idea to completely work and I am still working on it.
    good luck.

  • Controller assignment

I am trying to assign to ONE button on my midi controller an "Insert #1 Bypass" on/off on a filter on an output channel in Logic 8. I can't seem to get it to work. I can only make it turn OFF the filer, or I can hold down the button on the midi controller and it will switch, but as soon as I release the button it jumps back to the original setting. How do I do this? I use a Novation Remote 25SL...

  • Controller assignment not seeing certain functions

    Hi,
I'm currently assigning controls to my ms20 controller for the arturia jupiter 8 plugin.
Most things are 'learning' no problem, but there's a couple that logic just won't see. Thery're pretty straight forward ones too on the jupiter 8 interface - wave shape - for example.
I'm sure i mapped them before which is weird.
Is there anything i can do here to get logic to see them?
Thanks in advance for any help and advice.
    Tom

Definitely. I just figured I would post about it (search didn't find any old posts about it).
It has the feel of an unfinished project. I'm sure that is what happened. I doubt they will try to fix that area in any Logic update. It needs to be reworked entirely.

  • BUG: Controller Assignment window bugs

    a bug:
I have a few fader assignments
I have no fader 3 assignment
I command-L, move an instrument param, move fader 3
I get "fader is already assigned: keep both, reassign or cancel ?"
keep both: I now have THREE assignments to fader 3
    Massive Macro 3 ( I never touched it )
and two TpDelay: feedback (the one I was trying to map)
my Fader assignment 4 has been deleted or changed into one of the fader 3 assignments.
Its possible in the preceding case that there was already an assignment to the same target parameter. perhaps that was fader 4, but it got mapped to 3 along with the new assignment.
If I did have a previously existing fader 3 assignment and I select cancel:
the old 3 and the new one I was assigning are both deleted.
reassign: also did not work, but I don't remember what it did.
These do not happen this way all the time, its not easily repeatable, and I can't tell you what the condition was that caused it to do this. But there are bugs in there related to that dialog. Probably I'm seeing the end result of another deeper data corruption.
Deleting modes and assignments can sometimes result in crashes. I had quite a few, probably something in the song itself. Badly stored data etc.

  • Mute Button on a Midi controller. How do I set this up?

I want to setup a button on my midi controller keyboard, as a mute button for a certain track.
I select the track, hit 'Mute' with the mouse, and then 'learn controller assignment'. I then proceed by pushing the button on the midi controller.
The Parameter is "Learned", but doesn't work as a toggle button: I have to press the button two times for it to work.
    Any Ideas?
    Tibook 867   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

fotofono, depending on the kind of result you're after, you may want to consider a sidechain. I'm pasting text from a previous post I did where someone wanted to be able to create a stutter effect (with mute) on a vocal track. It may apply to what you're trying to do.
    Here's how:
On the vocal track you want to create the stutter effect, insert a noise gate.
On the noise gate plug-in window, look for the sidechain input (top right).
Pick 'Bus 32' for example, or a bus that you don't have in the environment window.
Pick an empty midi track in the arrange window, insert an EXS piano or any other Audio Instrument (something with good attack works best). Assign it's output to Bus 32.
Since bus 32 is not in the environment window (make sure it isn't), it won't output any sound to the main outs, and you won't hear that Audio Instrument you've just inserted. Nevertheless the audio is still being routed within Logic, and will affect the SideChain of the noise gate, which is what you want to create the stutter.
Sequence the rhythm for the stutter into the midi track (you won't hear the Audio Instrument, but you should hear the vocal track stuttering to your midi track playing), do any quantizing you want, etc, and the noise gate will follow the notes.
You can also tweak the Noise Gate of course, to ease the threshold of the stutter, etc.
Even if it's not what you're after, you may find it's a really useful tool for many kinds of results.

    Luis

  • Learned controller assignments often get stuck in Logic.... (?)

Hey guys, when use hardware controllers for controlling parameters of softsynths in Logic, I find that the software knobs often get stuck while moving them. I can not see a pattern to this behaviour, but it happens if I learn assignments within Logic, or using my Novation remote SL and other controllers with templates.
Is this a known issue. Anyone else getting it?
    thanks,
    Rob

Yeah the whole controller assignment thing has me
baffled. It seems to be geared towards specific,
    permanently installed "control surfaces".
Not really - you can completely create your own multi-layer control surfaces, it's just that doing a complete control surface, with bank shifts for controlling track groups and so on is a fair amount of work, and takes some getting to know the controller assignments window, and the terminology like "modes" and "zones" etc
However, the level of control it gives you is great, and if you want examples, you can for instance load a Logic Control controller surface into Logic and examine the way all it's assignments are configured.
If you want to be more sure you can set up a
transformer object to map midi cc's to your synths.
I find it's way better (for me at least) to develop my own control surface support. I use a Korg MicroKontrol and found the default controller support to be rather clunky and not ideal for me, so I've developed and been refining my own control surface support which suits my needs perfectly. It's takes time and is an ongoing process, but is highly useful.
I just wish some of the flaky behaviour was fixed, but my fingers are crossed for future versions...
In any case, if you want to map a fader to a softsynth parameter, just hit apple-L, click on the onscreen control, and twiddle you fader. Assignment learnt. Do this for the parameters you want, turn off learn mode, and twiddle away with perfect automation.
Don't also forget the automation quick access as well - assign your mod wheel to this, and you can select any parameter of a plug and quickly use the mod wheel to control it or write automation etc.

  • Reusable Component: Fragment with onw controller

    Hi,
I have written a JS-fragment, which shows a table of files. You can upload/download files from this view.
All functions are coded within this one Files.fragment.js file.
I wonder what the best way would be, to have ONE single, own controller for this fragment.
I dont want to add all function within the "parent" controller.
The fragment is used on several views within the app.
Is there any best practise to build more complex, reusable component in UI5?
    Jens

    Hi Jens,
To my knowledge, Fragments can't have a dedicated controller assigned -- it uses the controller of the calling view:
Fragments are pieces of UI, just like SAPUI5 MVC views, but without the view control around the content and without their own controller.
    SAPUI5 SDK - Demo Kit
However, according to the API, you could indeed specify a specific controller so I'm not sure if it would be possible to use a dedicated controller for a Fragment... I have never tried this with Fragments.
Before Fragments, if I had a complex view, I would have one 'container' or 'parent' view with its controller, and the different inner parts of this container/parent view consisted of other views (which uses the container controller). And only the inner views that were reusable would have their own controller.
In other words, if it is possible to have a dedicated controller for your reusable Fragment, then that's indeed the way to go IMO

  • Logic keeps losing controller assignments???

I have an Axiom 49 with it's transport buttons assigned to various logic functions. I have assigned these in the key command section by "learn new assignment" Every so often these commands stop working altogether as if Logic "forgets" them. When I look at the learned command line it still shows the assignment but it isn't until I "relearn" the exact same assignment that it works again. This is extremely frustrating. Does anyone know why this happens and if there is a workaround? Thanks.

    don'tforgetyourtowel wrote:
This may work for your controller assignment issues. I haven't tried that specifically but it definitely works for solving problems with midi ports changing depending on what you have hooked up when you boot Logic.
The CA (Controller Assignments) are "Pre", regarding the Logic Physical Input in Click & Ports layer, so this will not solve the "Input Floating Ports" problem I guess... I think a little tip using IAC bus can work cause once IAC is activated it is a MAC constant virtual port.
    *The IAC Tip*
    1. Cut the "Sum" cable from the Physical Input and cable the IAC (Bus1) port to the Monitor object (1) - see the pic below. You can name the Monitor (IAC Bus1 IN) etc.
    2. Cable all physical ports to the "Sum Physical Ports" Monitor object (2).
    3. Create an Instrument object (3), assign its port to IAC, set its midi channel to "All" and cable from "Sum Physical Ports" Monitor object (2).
    4. Create a new Fader in the Environment and cable it to the IAC Instrument as shown (4).
    5. Move the fader of your external controller you plan to learn to see what is its CC# and channel# in the "Sum Physical Ports" Monitor. (You can skip this step if you are familiar with the physical fader/knob hardware CC assignment previously).
    6. Select the virtual fader (4) labeled as "Temp Learn" in the environment and set its output CC definition number and midi channel to match your external controller you plan to learn in the inspector.
    7. Save your new midi setup as a Logic template song.
    8. Press (Command+K) to open the Logic CA expert dialog. Do the standard "learn" procedure to learn any channel strip or plugin parameter but instead of moving the external controller fader/knob you must move the virtual environment fader labeled as "Temp Learn" (4). This way Logic CA will be learned from the IAC bus (you will see that in the CA expert dialog). After this "Dummy" learn process you can tweak the physical controller - done!
The method must solve the "Input Floating Ports" problem cause all CA assignments will be learned from the IAC port which is constant (non-floating until you may decide to switch it OFF in the Mac AMS).
The other good side is if you decide to move your Logic Preference file ( i.e CA) to another machine - all assignments must work this way ( I did not try yet but in theory it must work ).
Another advantage is that you can patch lots of interesting "Transformer Gears" between the "Sum Physical Ports" Monitor (2) and the Instrument IAC port (3). In other words you can use the Logic Environment as an advanced "MIDI JUNCTION" engine serving its midi processing to other apps, CA etc...

  • How to use a specific MIDI controller to control instruments loudness?

Hi, I just started using Logic, so it's possible I will find the answer to this question by myself over time, but maybe somebody can point me to the answer right now...
I want to control the loudness (volume) of a software instruments over time, for a given note, using a MIDI controller channel. The note velocity only controls the loudness of the attack.
Of course this is not applicable for an instruments such as the piano, but it is quite important for string or wind instruments where you can attack a note very softly but keep playing louder on the same note.
The MIDI controller to control that could be after touch. In my case, it would be CC2 (breath control), as I use a wind controller.
My experiment so far is that Logic sees the value of CC2 correctly, but whatever its value, the loudness of the note sound never changes.
I understand that the answer to that question might depend on the instrument under consideration. Then an example would be of great help.
    Many thanks.
    JD

    Jean-Denis Muys wrote:

As it was suggested you can try CC11 or you can transform your existing CC2 to CC11. Patch a transformer between the Physical Input and the Sequencer Input in Click & Ports Environment layer and make the next settings in the transformer:
    Conditions
    Status=Control
    Data Byte 1 (= 2)
    Operations
    Data Byte 1 (Fix 11)
It this scenario your incoming CC2 will be transformed into CC11 and you can control the Expression (CC11) of a software instrument if it responds to that controller at all ( some software instruments must be mapped previously to have such respond ). Note you will be able to control only the selected track this way.
You can try to use the Controller Assignment dialog and learn CC2 to control the "level" parameter of an instrument or its channel strip level fader, gainer plugin (which can be inserted in the top plugin slot) etc as well.
