Y axis Time chart
Hi group, I am new to Numbers and wondering whether it can do what I want (and how to do it!). I've never worked with charts before...
Basically, I want to create a chart with Addresses on the X Axis and Years on Y Axis.
I want to be able to say that Address 1 is valid from between 2010 and 2012. Address valid between 2011 and 2013 and so on.
I want it to appear like the attached (replace company names with addresses)
Help I have no idea and have trying for days!!!
Thanks for any help
Mark
Hi Mark,
The first thing to know about Charts in Numbers is that there are two basic kinds, and some sub-varieties. The two basic kinds are Scatter and Category.
Scatter Charts plot data pairs where both halves of each pair in the set are numeric values. All the rest of the charts are one form or another of a Category Chart.
What you need for this exercise is a Stacked Bar Chart, and the data table to drive it to the behavior you are looking for.
Here's an example of a Stacked Bar Chart from the Net Worth template in the template chooser.
Using this clip as an example, Large and fixed assets in the template will be your delay, in years, before the company becomes active. Liquid assets becomes the company's active time. You don't need the third segment (series) but you see how you could add segments if needed.
To make this chart look like yours, you would Display Category Names on the left axis (The Category Axis) and Years on the bottom axis (the Value Axis). Also, adjust the color of the delay value to white or clear.
Here's an example:

How to change dynamically the number of lines to show in time chart
Hello all,
I need your help for the following scenario:
In browser is an applet available that contains a tree. Each tree node have the id. The user can select a tree node and open a crystal report with time chart. This time chart shows values for tree node id(y-axis). The values are measurement values from database. The database table contains:
id_field = tree node id,
value_field = measurement value,
and time_field.
So, my problem is that the user can select more than one tree node. The maximum selection count is 16.
My idea is to do something in the following way:
1) create function ("myFunction")
2) set function as filter
3) add my function (or parameters)to y axis
For example:
filter:
if {@time_field} in {@time_begin_param} to_ {@time_end_param} and {@myFunction}
"myFunction"-function:
if ( treenode_id1 != -1 )
then "if {@id_field} = treenode_id1"
else if ( treenode_id2 != -1 )
then "if {@id_field} = treenode_id1 or {@id_field} = treenode_id2"
When the user selection is changed:
1) in my struts action u2013 create report programmatically
2) set parameter treenode_id1 u2013 treenode_id16 equals user selection
3) open report
My question is what is the correctly way to solve my problem?
And here some concrete questions:
1) When I set 16 parameters for y axis how can I hide unused parameters?
2) When I'm using filter with function is the function in db request or are all data requested and then filtered?
3) Can I add data set to my chart programmatically from my struts action?
4) When it is possible can I add parameters to y axis also programmatically?
5) Is it possible to change data set of crystal report without recreating the report?
Any help is appreciated!

Duration time chart in Brio Reporting
Hi All,
I have a question about how to display time chart in Brio.
Example:
Type Duration
A 32:11
B 15:10
C 152:20
I want to display chart with Type as Axis and Duration is Fact. I've already try it, but eventually the amount won't display. Maybe it's because duration type is String. But if i change it into any type, it shows error.
Can anybody help me here?
Regards,
RickiHi Wayne,
If i convert time to decimal format, i have to show duration in chart into time type. I want to use time (duration) as fact.

Stanley TamStart with chart that looks like a column + line chart with a left & right Y axis. It should be the one on the bottom left. After plotting your two series, go to the chart inspector, series tab, and change the second series from line to column. Go to the Axis tab and choose to show the titles for the Y1 and Y2 axes.

Sort Time Axis in Charts :
Hello,
I have a simple Lines Charts were i need to show value on X axis with Text of the month But Data need to be
sorted according to the month number.
i created an Alert in the table but when converted on charts alert is not applied.
How could i show text of the month in charts and Sort it poperly :
Thanks for your answer,
RegardsHai VIERM01
There are three type of sorting:
1. Ascending order sort
2. Descending order sort
3.custom sort
The Ascending order sort and Descending order sort are the system defined sorts , The Custom sort is user defined sort.
The custom sort is what ever the end user required to arrange in order to need A report.
if custom chart not possible for your column chart. first make a table and arrange in order to month as per monthnumber (Right click menu -
>sort -
> custom sort ) then Right click -
> turn to -
>column chart...
All the best

How to auto change the name in X-Axis and Y-Axis in chart ?
Hi, I want to plot data into a chart. I make a selection switch for each channel, there are for temperature measurement and voltage measurement.
What I want is when I switch the selection to temperature measurement, the Y-axis´s name change into Temperature and when it is voltage change into Voltage.
Can LabView do that ?

Hi, can anyone tell me if there is a chart template available (in
Developer 6i) that is capable of creating a chart with a z-axis?
I have searched through all of the documentation that I could
find and there was nothing about it. It is absolutely crucial
that I be able to develop charts with multiple columns along the
z-axis. Is there an alternative way of accomplishing this, do
you know?
Any help is greatly appreciated (and gladly accepted).
Cheers,
Bricklen AndersonYeah, my bad - I was confusing the curved X vs Time with the acceleration - the curve is obviously a sineusoid which is what you would expect from a circle.
The Z is linear as you would also expect. Switching the plots to Acceleration (which I thought I had set) shows the accelartion in X/Y and Z.
One follow on question though - how do you use the Motion Assistant VI's exactly?
I have the profiles that I want but not sure how to input them into the 73xx motion hardware, confused with what to do with the result of these VI's - how to get them into the motion hardware..
If you create an LabView VI from Motion Assitant it doesn't use the "MA" VI's from the Motion Assitant sub-menu, it appears to create everyting using traditional flexmotion subvi's. -
I've seen the thread that says Numbers does not support a chart with a date axis. That is, a chart derived from a table that has a date column with dates irregularly spaced in time.
For example, here's a table of visits to a supermarket and the price of Wheaties on each visit:
DATE PRICE
8/12/90 $3.50
8/14/90 $3.60
9/2/92 $4.30
6/4/94 $4.00
Right now, if you turn this into a chart, you get a graph with each data point paced equally apart. Useless. What you want is a chart with an x-axis that's a date range, with each data point plotted at the appropriate point along that range.
I'm surprised that Apple doesn't support this feature. So, two questions.
1. Anyone know if this is in the pipeline for the next version of Numbers? I'm ready to chuck Excel, but this is a show-stopper for me. Can't switch without this feature. Anyone know when the next version is due?
2. Anyone know any reasonable workarounds?
Thanks.Hello

I really don't understand why.
You had a 30 days free trial version giving enough time to see if the app was fitting your needs.
But don't worry, it appears that you are numerous to do that.
To be back to the app itself, it appears that the choices ruling dates are not perfectly consistent.
For some aspects they looks like strings, for others, they look like numbers.
I was acustomed to dates being a number displaid as a dateString.
For instance, if a cell contains 37995 in an AW spreadsheet, when I give it the date format, it is displaid as: 10/01/2008 (I am using a French system).
In Numbers it's not exactly that and I can't get it displaying 37995 as a date.
In fact I knows, but it requires an AppleScript.
If someone found a way to do that with Numbers's functions, I am interested.

Clearing time chart resets time also, but I don't want that
I've tested this under both LV2011 and 2013, and the problem is seen in both versions.
When I set up a chart with absolute time on the x-axis, and after some time have filled the
chart with data, right-click and select Clear Chart, the chart is cleared, indeed.
However, the problem is that the tims-scale is also reset, so when new data continue
to be displayed, the time scale is wrong, cause it restarts on the time the chart originally started
(before clear). How do I solve this problem ?
MartinYou could build a waveform to write to the chart. The waveform would include a timestamp that the chart would then use. If you just wire up and array or scaler to the chart, then the time just defaults to midnight Jan 1, 1904.

Where do I get the x-axis time from?
Everytime I run a VI, on the chart I get 295 milliseconds and if I run it twice, I get 591. (notice the multiple of two). What I am wondering is why is it 295 everytime? When I profile the VI's there run time is constantly varying. So how come the 295 on the chart or graph is constant? Where is this number so that I can change it and what does it mean?
I am going to attach some pictures of what I mean.

Front_Panel1d.jpg 83 KBUnless you set the time the X axis will just display the number of samples, not the time. The name of the axis is by default time yes, but that's not what it will display unless you set the X scale offset and multiplier properties, and change the format of the scale to time.
If you use a chart it will hold the previous data so if you get 295 samples per run it will just add the next 295 samples when you run it a second time...giving a total of 590 (if the scale is set to be "Loose Fit" the scale range will be a bit wider than the actual number of samples displayed).
In the final application I would recommend that you redesign the user interface, it looked very messy. Get rid of all the colors, group and align the graphs and controls/other indicators that rela
te to eachother (or put them on the same graph), give them proper names, separate them from other groups of data either by having some front panel space between them, a border around the different groups or place them in separate windows to reduce the number of graphs in the same window (too much information at once is not good). You can find GUI design guidelines here on the zone.

I am trying to make a chart of temperature values with absolute time. First, the timing seems to be a little off and second, I would like to display an hour of data and then have it write over itself so it is always displaying the last hour of data. It would be nice to be able to scroll through a day or two of data, but not neccessary. I have attached my code from Labview 2010. Could you please help me modify my code to do this? Thank you in advance for your help.

how do I make it clear the chart history each time I start the program?
Use the history property node.
This is explained in an example VI to be found in the example finder…
I am pretty new with LabVIEW so don't understand your answer to the x-axis question
Again: as you are new to labVIEW you should take all those FREE online courses offered by NI on their website!
Would it be easier for me to use a graph?
Easier: not really.
Getting better results: yes.

Print-time charting with shared variables on a report without groups...
hello all,
I have an interesting conundrum; I am working on a report (Crystal XI) with no groups to it, just several subreports. Presently the report is run weekly and sent to the manager of one of our departments.
The report itself showcases all areas of the department with total tasks, longest outstanding task, average days outstanding, MTD tasks completed, and YTD tasks completed. Due to the variety of tables the data pulls from, I have it set up as subreports that simply display the data.
All total, there are 20 different shared variables that have been obtained from 10 different subreports. I have the shared variables set as the running totals from the subreports (hence, all are print time). Since the running totals and all the subreports are time based and are not actually linked to ANYTHING on the main report, I am struggling with how to set up the formulas described in the white paper, "Charting on Print Time Formulas".
The setting up of the two formulas ({@onchngof} and {@showval}) will be different for my situation, as all of the subreports run off of date information relative to when the report is ran. I've got all of the subreports that the shared variables originate in early in the report; but where to from here?
Would I set up maybe a date grouping or some other non-essential consistent grouping to make it work? The way this report is, it really doesn't need grouping, because the main report is just a display agent for the subreports...
As always, any help is greatly appreciated!Let me ask couple of questions before trying to resolve this.
1. The chart you are trying to built is placed in which section and is it on Main report or sub-report of its own. This is needed because if you are trying to access shared variables values in Main report, the section should be below the sub-report placed sections.
2. Try pacing few test formulas in Main report and make sure the correct values are being pulled in on Main report.
If you are successfully pulling the variable values on the report, try creating a simple chart in report footer with the values you have pulled and see if its taking you somewhere...
Would need more information on how those variables are being accessed form sub to main or sub to other sub for example are you making an array of those variables and splitting or bringing it in as separate... -
X-Axis of chart is too low on chart, so I only see the top half of it.
I have a chart with 2 chart areas. The bottom area has a chart with an X-axis label, such as "Percent". My chart is 376 pixels high. I find that the "Percent" is sliced horizontally so that I only see the top of the
"P' and a bit of the tops of the other letters. If I make the chart a little taller, it is still sliced. I think if I expand it to 450 pixels high, the problem goes away, but I don't have the room.
