JP,
A couple of things to get ready for a 2-axis Category Chart...
Make sure that Column A is a Header Column and that Row 1 is a Header Row.
Delete any unnecessary (empty) rows and columns.
Select all three columns and Insert > Chart > 2D 2-Axis
Set your chart formatting options.

can I use a secondary axis in numbers?

Only in a combined bar and line chart, so far as I can tell.
These category charts may have a shared category axis (x) and two value (y) axes.
This is the choice at the bottom of the Chart button's menu.

  • How to plot dates on X-axis in Numbers?

    Hey all, need help!
Have a two-column data layout, with dates in first column and values in second.  For example,
    April 12, 2009 465
    July 16, 2009 329
    Sep 2, 2009 528
    Nov 21, 2009 503
I'd like to plot this as a scatter plot and see dates on the x-axis (a la Excel).  Alas, all it shows are numeric equivalents on the x axis, in very large numbers.
What's the trick or solution to this?
(I have spent a good half hour rummaging the boards here and Googling to no avail.  I did discover the DUR2DAYS trick for doing a related graph in the spreadsheet... perhaps there's a formatting trick here, too.)

    BUMP!
    Anyone?

  • Need to remove secondary Y axis scale numbers from Combination chart in Dashboard 4.0

    Hello all,
I am using Dashboard 4.0 and combination chart. Earlier in combination chart, we had secondary Y axis and scale numbers on secondary Y axis. When I remove secondary Y axis and scale numbers, 0(min scale) and 1 (max scale) are not going off, they are still in the chart. How to remove them.
    Thanks,
    Renu

    Hi Renu,
Instead of selecting data by Series, select the data by Range and map the data accordingly. Please follow the screen short for your reference.

  • Weird behaviour of chart axis in Numbers

on the x-axis i entered three values: 12, 13, 16. But they end up being evenly spaced along the axis (I want there to be more space between 13&16 than 12&13).
This seems absolutely illogical to me. Anyone has a fix? thx.

This discussion is really useful. I was having the same problem with dates on the x-axis. The date values in my column of data are not equally spaced but they were on the chart when using a line chart. Now I am using a scatter chart things look better.
However is it possible to join the dots in a scatter chart? For some data this makes no sense but the values on my x-axis are in order and so joining the dots here would. I really need a line chart that does not regard the x-axis as categories.
Dare I say that I can do this in Excel!! In fact I converted an Excel spreadsheet to Numbers only to find the chart was displayed differently.

  • Interval in y axis displays numbers off with respect to x axis

I am working on chart SQL 2008 R2. In my x-axis, I have three payers and in y axis I have Amount paid by each payer. If I define interval in y axis then x axis graph is not showing correct values. If I remove the interval in Y axis then my x-axis graph is
correct but y axis numbers are wrong(see graph1).
Please see Graph2 where I have correct interval. Payer 1 has paid 29,000,000 and payer2 has paid 3,843,537 and payer3 has paid 270,000,000. I have set the interval min - auto. max - max ( of data value) and interval - 10,000,000 on y axis.
x-axis is category. Please help me with this. Is there any property I need to set. Thanks for your help.
    Graph1

    Hi Rachel_P,
According to the pictures, the Y-Axis shows incorrect values when you don’t specify the interval value. While when you specify the interval value, the columns in the chart doesn’t show correctly. Based on my research, I think this issue can be caused by
incorrect data type of the Amount field. When we add a string type field to the Values pane, it uses [Count(Amount)] as the values. Then the Y-Axis displays the number of amount values for each payer.
To fix this issue, we can add a calculated field with integer type amount values in the dataset, then display the new field in the Y-Axis. For more details, please see the following steps:
Right-click the DataSet of the chart to add a calculated field as below:
Field Name: Num                   Field Source: =CInt(Fields!Amount.Value)
Insert Num field to replace the Amount field in the Values pane.
The following screenshot is for your reference:
If there are any misunderstanding, please elaborate the issue for further investigation.

  • How to change the side of the y axis in numbers ?

I am trying to make a negative only chart (all the x values are negative), thus the y axis has to be on the right, yet it is displayed on the left ! I really need some help please. Thank you !

    Hi Rupert,
    Here's an alternate method.
Ian's suggestionis the only one I know using a scatter chart, but Numbers also offers a '2-axis' Category chart. It's the last one on the menu in the Charts button, requires two series of Y values, and defauts to a line chart for the first series and a column chart (vertical bar chart) for the second Y series.
The two (Y) axes may have different scales, and may be formatted separately. Here's an example. Instructions below.
The data columns are column B (X values) and column D (Y values).
Because this is a Category chart, the X values must be listed in a header row, where they will be recognized as 'category labels' . As 'categories', they will be evenly spaced along the x axis, and wil be ordered left to right in the order they appear (top to bottom) in column A of the table.
2-Axis charts require a table with two columns of Y data. To provide the second 'data' set, I've added column C, and filled it with zeroes.
To create the chart, select columns C and D, then click the Charts button and select the Two-Axis chart.
With ther chart selected, open the Chart Inspector.
    Choose Axis.
Uncheck "Show Values" using the pop-up menu for Value Axis (Y1)
Check "Show Axis" using the pop-up menu for Value Axis (Y2)
Set min and max values and steps to values that will give you integer labels for the Y value grid lines.
    Choose Series.
Click on the colour block (on the table) for the dummy series (Y1).
Set Data Symbol to 'none'. Use the Line thickness control in the format bar to set the line thickness to 0.25 pt and the colour to black.
Click on the colour block for the 'real' series. Set the data symbol and size, and the line thickness as desired.

  • Secondary axis in Numbers

Hello, I need to add a secondary axis to a graphic. Do you know how can I do it in Numbers?

    Hi Mariano,
    Numbers 3.1
There is a 2-axis chart in the chart chooser.
A good place for ideas is Template Chooser > Basic > Charting Basics and open the 2-Axis Chart tab.
Click around and Format Panel will show how things were done.
    Regards,
    Ian.

  • How do I change the visible number range for the y-axis in numbers?

I have a chart that has a lot of white space because the y-axis starts at zero.I would like the graph to show the range 20-35. How may I omit the range for which I have no data?

    agood,
You can control Max, Min, number of grid lines, etc. for X and Y axes.
Here's an example from the Chart template:
    I've boxed the relevant areas.

How can I have the X axis automatically put in dexcriptors instead of numbers?

    Hi Ronald,
The chart Report will show, what ever is displayed in your table Report. Probably you have selected. Right click on Chart and select "Select Data" and see waht is selected for Rows and columns. For example in first column you have customer and if it is set as display Key in table it will show you Key in chart as well.
Do some Trial and error with "Select Data source" option in Chart, you will get the desired result.

  • Extending Trendlines and Changing Where Y-Axis Crosses

    Hi,
I'm trying to create a graph for a class in school. I've created a scatterplot with a linear trendline through my data. Now I would like to extend that trendline to continue past my data points. I know that in Excel you can simply forecast the trendline. Obviously I have Numbers, not Excel, so I was wondering if there was anyway I could do this.
Also, my x-axis includes both positive and negative numbers. However, the Y-axis does not cross the X-axis at 0. Instead the labels for the Y-axis are on the far left of the graph. I'm trying to move the Y-axis so that it crosses through the 0 point of my Y-axis.
Any help would really be appreciated!
    Thanks

    Hi 'ray,
Numbers will not extend a trend line beyond the last data points, so you'll need to calculate these points. Fortunately, FORECAST uses the same calculation as used for a linear trend line.
Add two rows to your table, one above and one below.
In the first, enter the minimum x value to which you want to extend the trend line (in the example, -10 in D4)
In the second, enter the maximum x value to which you want to extend the trend line in the example, 15 in D14).
In the Y data column, enter the formula shown into the new top and bottom cells (changing only the first cell reference to match the row).
In the example, I entered these formulas into the next column, then copied and pasted values into the Y data column.
The two new data points are points that lie on the extension of the trend line, and will not affect that line beyond extending it. They will, unfortunately, generate data point symbols at each end of the line.
I've also used the Chart Inspector to set the maximum and minimums for each axis to accomodate the data, and the number of steps to ensure whole number indices, including zeroes, on each axis.
Numbers places the "axes" and lables at the bottom and left of the chart, and without detaching the chart from the document, they aren't moveable.
The (red) x and y axes on the example are lines inserted using the Shapes button, then placed on the grid lines from the two zero values. The grid lines can be removed after placing the lines. After placing the lines, I selected lines and chart and did Arrange > Group to allow moving the chart as a unit. I also found that allowed me to resize the chart without losing the alignment of the new axes.

    Barry

  • Can Numbers handle time series?

I have a time series and i want to display the data in a diagram. The intervals of the points in time vary. I found no option to display the values in a digram so that values that are close in time are displayed close to each other and greater gaps are displayed further apart. Unfortunately all values are displayed in a constant interval.
Is there a solution, other than creating a table with all possible dates and inserting values only in rows where data is available?
    Martin

In the old Numbers you can use an x-y scatter plot with dates for the x axis. Numbers 3.0 seems to accept the dates but displays them wrong on the scatter chart, as large numbers rather than dates.
Please do give Apple feedback on this, in your menu Numbers>Provide Numbers Feedback.

  • Premiere Elements NEEDS to be in Creative Cloud

Many people use a pan/zoom effect for their photos. Granted Premiere gives more total control over the process through effect/motion but the interface is tedious and guesswork. I want to pan over a photo do I really need to guess with x and y axis and numbers that begin with 360 and use negative numbers and set multiple settings in scale and postion...When the LIGHT version does it beautifully and simply already...According to the trial I downloaded and from other users input.
I would think that those of us who subscribe to creative cloud should have this option included either by updating pro with this interface or bundling elements in the creative cloud. Or at least offer us a signifiant discount to purchase elements. It would make my project so much easier. Thanks.

I wish Premiere or any Adobe software could implement features found in Sony Vegas Pro.  Much more intuitive on panning and zooming and sizing and keyframs.  And stacking multiple files and doing many types of crossfades is practically automated in Vegas, almost like a WYSIWYG interface.  Audio handing is superior in Vegas too.  There are so few limitations in workflow on the Sony stuff...my clients are blown away at how quickly I can do rough mockups of their ideas.  Someone at Adobe should really take a look.  I think they'd stop touting these "drag and drop crossfades" as a good idea and see them for the murky, unsure method they are.  There is a MUCH easier way, and Sony has been doing it that way for over a decade.  Not to mention you can drag and drop Photoshop files right on to a Vegas timeline, as well as nearly EVERY other type of video, audio, or still.  It doesn't care.  It makes it work.  And in Vegas, you can get at the properties of each individual element to do nearly anything you want under the hood.  It all plays nice together and the layout is so easy to navigate.  Adobe stuff is powerful, but hard to use.  I feel more like a scientist and less like an artist when I use the Adobe interfaces...

  • Subtle Questions on X-Y Graph

Below is an example of using a X-Y graph. I have 2 questions.
    1. Is it possible to move the points to the center of the grid, and also move x, and y axis label to the center, something like this
Note that the points are now in the center of the grid, and the axis label numbers are also moved to the center of the gird.
    2. Is it possible to retrieve the values of a point on a X-Y graph. For example, if the user clicks the first point on the above graph (any of the graph), the value [1,2] is obtained, and stored.
    Thanks

The easiest way would be to swap the major and minor grid colors and change the scale style:
About the detection, you can get the point where the mouse click was done with the MapCoordsToXY invoke node, this will return the XY values of a point. With some interpolation on the data you can then get the exact value at that point.

  • Next Revision improvements

I understand NIweek is coming up and all, which I cannot attend, but I
have a question for those, who are involved with the developers here on
    the boards.
What improvements are expected in the next version?
I suppose, this forum could be somewhat of a feature request for you as
well, so the next version can be drastically improved.  Such as:
    1. Allowing the REPORT graphs to display different formats of the axis
numbers, as well as allow adjustment of their orientation relative to
the graph (i.e. axis value numbers are vertical instead of only
horizontal, no engineering designation selection for large #s)
    2. Background infromation in REPORT to be edited once and copied across
multiple sheets. This would also allow the format to always be the same.
I suppose I could go on, but those were a couple right off the top of
my head.  I have sent several other feature request to my local NI
salesman, Chris Washington, who I believe has sent many of them on to
    the Developers.
    Thanks,
    Rich Elswick

    Rich,
Although I don't know if certain features will be available in future version of DIAdem I can comment on some of your suggestions.
    5. It is not possible to manipulate the output of an HTML report directly from DIAdem.  On the other hand, an HTML file is nothing more than a text file.  Therefore, you could manipulate it programatically through a VB Script to meet your requirements.
    6. a) Were you able to reproduce the behavior of the Save functionality with different TDM files?  I tried to reproduce the behavior you described by creating a TDM file, editing it, saving it, closing DIAdem and opening the file again.  The TDM file had been saved in the correct directory and contained the correct data.
    b) The "Save As..." functionality might have been selected for the 'Save' toolbar button instead of the "Save" functionality to implement a safeguard against replacing data inadvertently.  If you are asked where you want to save your data, it will be harder for you to loose previous versions of your data due to saving.
    7. The best way to make sure that your product suggestions are considered in future version of DIAdem is to submit them to the National Instruments Product Suggestion Center.  All these suggestions are read by National Instruments developers to determine which features will be included in future versions.  You can find the product suggestion center at the following URL (http://digital.ni.com/applications/psc.nsf/default?openform).
