Y50-70 multiple BSOD

Hi, I seem to be in a difficult situation right now. About a month ago I bought an Lenovo Y50-70 without Touchscreen on behalf of my girlfriend in Vienna (Austria). She is currently living in the Philippines and I picked it up for her and brought it on my flight to her a week later. I usually don't like the partioning from factory, thats why I clean installed Windows 8.1 and saved the drivers before. After installing them with a couple of additional programs the laptop ran into multiple BSODs and the Screen was flickering a lot, especially when I didn't do anything with it or ran any progam. Even on startup the laptop froze while loading windows and shut down again for 2-3 times before booting succesfully. I thought the problem could be one of the programs I installed or an out of date driver. But even after getting rid of all programs and updating every driver the problems still occured.
So I tried to clean install windows 8.1 again and use the up to date drivers right away without installing any other programs. But the same problems came back. After installing all windows 8.1 updates available I had  a break of about 2 days and then everything came back. Sometimes even with a start in safe mode. I really don't know what to do now. I did the hardware checkup, scaned the hardware with Lenovo Solution Center, but not one problem was found. I called the support of Lenovo in the Philippines, but they say they are not allowed to open the laptop without erasing the warrenty, because the Y50-70 is not sold here. They can check the software, but they can not check the hardware at all and the time I get back to Vienna, I won't be able to make use of my right of return, because it has been more of 30 days since the purchase. We would appreciate any help greatly

Hi,
over the last week it got worse. Now i can't start the laptop without it crashing while booting windows or being in repair mode for at least 3 times in a row. And then its running for about 10 minutes tops before its crashing again. Most of the time its without BSOD. I had to change the settings to save the parameters of the BSOD. Now I have the last three. Does somebody know if the warrenty will be violated if I open it up? Might be a loose RAM?
I have the last to crashes here as a picture. Unfortubatly i can't upload it with the laptop itself.

  • Blue Screen with Lightroom 5 - Multiple BSOD Codes

My computer has been extremely stable for the past few years without a single BSOD... Until recently when I updated LR4 to LR5.
After a good 15-20minutes within the program, all of a sudden it will BSOD. It does not happen doing ANYTHING else with the computer, including gaming such as FSX and other simulators which can be very heavy on the GPU/Memory/etc...
I ran memtest and it passed... No problems there.
HD Tune on my HD's, no errors.
I reduced my overlock to be sure it was not a voltage issue or something, but same results.
    Prime95, passed.
I tried doing a "Repair" with the LR5 installer file, but it still happened.
Not sure what to do next... I am running:
    Windows 7 - 64bit professional edition
    Intel i7 2600K CPU
    16GB DDR3 Ram
    570GTX GPU
Lightroom is running off my 120GB SSD Drive, with it's catalog on my 2.5TB internal HD (one of a few).
Updated my GPU drivers (clean install) and ran windows driver verifier to make sure all drivers were "proper".
I have a very important shoot I am trying to process and this is a big bummer right now... Again, been using LR4 every since it was released and never had a BSOD... Right after I upgrade, it starts happening once things start get a bit demanding (quick editing or quick adjustments). I have not noticed a trend when it does crash, but it may have something to do with the crop and/or straighten tool... I have noticed it has BSOD on me when doing some of those, but I believe other times as well. I will make sure to pay attention from now on to report any reliable trends when it happens.
Any help? Not sure if there may be a bug out there or I just have to keep looking at hardware/drivers...  If so, some suggestions would be great.
    Thanks!

Still no luck trying to cure my BSOD issue...
I tested each RAM stick with Memtest individually.. All passed... Ran them all together, passed.
Ran Intel Burn Test on "maximum" and it passed all 5 trials... No issue at all with CPU/Memory.
As stated before, I tried doing a repair install of LR5 and that did not help. I notice it happens with LR starts to get "overloaded" a bit... Scrolling through many images quickly or doing quick adjustments. That is when it tends to lock up and throw a BSOD.
The only thing I can think of is the GPU, but I never have any issue with other software, nor did it ever have any problems with LR4. I have been using the same GPU for years now. Reinstalled old, stable drivers via clean install and that did not help either.
Not sure what else I can possibly check... Each time the BSOD error is something different. The last error was "System service exception" and the one prior was "Page fault in nonpaged area".
Since all my harddrives tested out fine, the CPU and memory using stress tests... I wonder what is left? I will try finding and running a GPU test next I suppose. Sucks that it ONLY happens in LR5 though, nothing else.

  • Multiple BSOD Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit Fujitsu Amilo Desktop

hi, ive had my fujitsu amilo pc for about 7-8 years and its been working fine until just after xmas i started getting bluescreens and pc wouldnt start up.. ive tried everything, memtest shows no problems , heres a list of bsod codes ive wrote down:
driver irql not less or equal (i think thats what it said)
system_service_exception (this and above are most frequent)
    memory_management
    reference_by_pointer
page fault in non paged area
dxgkrnl (couldnt catch the rest of what it said)
but yeah, i thought it was my external graphics card so i took that out and still having problems.. ive done driver booster 2 pro and updated all drivers, tried reinstall of windows etc..

if anyone could help that would be great, im really stuck on this one
    Chris

ive run memtest with no probs found, driver booster 2 pro, ive downloaded chipset drivers from nvidia using system scan to identify the right machine, i'm not and never have overclocked, havent needed to as its
a good machine.. i've taken my external graphics card out as i suspected this was the problem and now still having issues
I think running driver verifier will help tell us more about what is going on, as already mentioned by
ZigZag3143x. Secondly, please uninstall driver booster. You don't need a third party program/utility to help in updating your drivers. Manuallysearch for, and update your devices from the system, motherboard or device manufacturers website.
Last but not least, please check the "hotfix" linked below, and determine whether or not, it applies to your system.
I mention the hotfix because you have 1394ohci.sys on your loaded modules list.
Stop error code 0x0000003B (SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION) on a computer that is running Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2 when you use some IEEE 1394 devices.

  • Multiple BSOD after waking from sleep.

Edit: Issue traced to a bad stick of ram. Thanks you for your time!
Recently installed Windows 8.1.  No problems. Put computer to sleep a few times instead of shutting down. No problems. Today, after waking from sleep, it opens to the sign in page instead of desktop like normal.  Start up an application, two seconds
later, BSOD.  Restart, don't touch anything, within two minutes, BSOD.  And so on. Struggle to download latest windows updates, BSOD. Updates start installing after a BSOD.  Restarts at least five times while installing, which I found to be
strange.  Dumps and msinfo through link.  Since the updates went through, no problem (for the last ten minutes while I put this together).  I thought I should share though.

Samsung Electronics 840 EVO-Series 120GB 2.5-Inch SATA III Single Unit Version Internal Solid State Drive MZ-7TE120BW

These crashes were related to memory corruption (probably caused by a driver).
Please run this test to find which driver is causing the problem.
If you are overclocking (pushing the components beyond their design) you should revert to default at least until the crashing is solved. If you don't
know what it is you probably are not overclocking.

  • Multiple BSODs with multiple reasons.

My system has been bluescreening regularly lately, I have posted my issues on other forums and have gotten some decent information, but I would like to get some information from this forum as it is actually supported by microsoft. I have made sure that my
BIOS, drivers, and ssd firmware are up to date; and have also done a 10 hour run of memtest86+ which returned 4 errors over the first five hours and none over the last five. I know that optimally, that memtest should not return any errors, but are these
four errors indicative of faulty ram causing my Bluescreens?

Please post a copy of your dump file as a shared file to your Sky Drive with a link here.
The dump file will be created at c:\windows\minidump. You may need to change your settings in Windows to be able to see the file. To show hidden files type Folder Options in the search box above the Start button and select View,
Advanced Settings and verify that the box before "Show hidden files and folders" is checked and "Hide protected operating system files" is unchecked. You may need to scroll down to see the second item. You should also make certain that the box before "Hide
extensions for known file types" is not checked.
What is your computer make and model? If not a branded computer what is your motherboard make and model?
Please download and run Driver View and upload a copy of the report it produces to your Sky Drive. To get a report on all drivers select Edit, Select All followed by File, Save Selected Items.
    http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/driverview.html
Please provide a copy of your System Information file. Type System Information in the Search Box above the start Button and press the ENTER key (alternative is Select Start, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, System Information).
Select File, Export and give the file a name noting where it is located. The system creates a new System Information file each time system information is accessed. You need to allow a minute or two for the file to be fully populated before exporting a copy.
Please upload to your Sky Drive, share with everyone and post a link here. Please say if the report has been obtained in safe mode. The request for a copy of this file is additional to answering the question about make and model.

  • BSOD leading to sudden multiple device failure.

OK, this is the second time I'm trying to write this - the site here went weird on me and I lost the script I'd written (I even copied just in case, but somehow lost that too).  This will likely not be as detailed or well put together since my time is running short at work and I have to leave soon.  But I really want to try and get this in beforehand so there might be a better chance of a response by the time I can log on later this evening...
    Machine:
    Satelite A665-S6094
    nVidia Graphics, i7 Core
    Win7 x64 Home Premium
    4 GB Ram
Programs Running At Time Of Fault:
Firefox w/ NoScript, AdBlockPlus & TACO
This machine is new.  It's 3 weeks old out of the box.  There's been no sign of any trouble or any issues until last night.  >_<
    Course Of Events:
    *  Computer left on Sleep w/ lid closed (on table where it lives) for ~1 hour.  When opened and logged back in, suddenly a quiet high-pitched tone starts and then gets louder.  Tone resolves into a very fast cycling of beeps.  Computer spontaniously reboots.  Beeps also happen at shut-down.
    *  Beeping tones start again at CMOS Checks - before the Toshiba Splash Screen.  They sound much higher and are far faster than any DOS Beep Code I've ever heard, and I can find no pattern to them.  The tone is long at times, 10 or more secods at a run, before resolving into separate beeps again.  Sometimes there's whole moments without them too.
    *  Windows Log-In, great.  Upon loading, touchpad will only work as a mouse - tapping & gestures do not work, but settings look fine.  The Media Shortcut Buttons are also dead, the backlight behind each one will light up & go off in random patters but the buttons do nothing.
    *  This first reboot only, the computer comes up in "Eco Mode".  This doesn't happen again, but is strange as we've never used it.  I'm not really clear on what it is.
    *  After 5 minutes, computer reboots itself again.  This is the only time it's done this aside from the first fail.
    *  The beeping & tones are a constant every time the computer is started and every time it shuts down.  I'm still not sure if it's a DOS beep though, it just sounds nothing like one.  The pitch is more like feed-back.  Every time, the touchpad and buttons fail after log-in.  The beeps/tones continue while the computer is on too, but they're not as loud.
    *  At one point I tried a restore point.  FAIL.  Computer refused to restart when restore was done.  Offered a "Repair from a restore point".  Tried, Fail - looked to be multiple BSOD.  Offered to "Repair the Bootsector".  This got me back to where I was before - beeping and 2 devices not working.
    What I've tried so far:
Sorry, this is not a lot.  Happened at 11 PM last night - work night - and have been at work all day.
    *  Scans w/ Avast, Malwarebytes, Spybot.  Stopped here as nothing was found by that point.
    *  Restore to restore point - Failed miserably and in fact made things worse for a bit.
    *  Basic Memory Test w/ MemTest.  Could only manage basic, as had to get to sleep.  2 passes w/ both RAM chips in.  Passed.
What I plan to try tonight:
    *  NirSoft BSV to see what the stop errors are.
    *  Serious MemTest
    *  Possible HD Test
    *  Lot of reading to figure this out.
    Theories:
    *  The failure of the restore point makes me think it could be a memory failure...
    *  The Bootsector Repair makes me wonder about a sudden, vicious bootsector virus - anyone know if there's any new ones going around?
    *  I read this afternoon about similar issues on Toshibas being caused by a corrupt CMOS, and as this starts at CMOS Call it's making me wonder.  Is anyone more informed on this issue, and possibly know a test for it?
    *  Possible bad BIOS?  Doubtful, but any thoughts?
    *  Less likely, but I guess still possible, failing HD?
Am looking for theories, thoughts, ideas and new things to check.
Am also really, really hoping there's someone who recognises this issue for what it is and can just tell me where the fault is and how to fix it.  OK, I know this is really unlikely, but I can hope.  =)
Will be back on this evening to update if I have anything to update with.

Wow!  My spouse found a thread on this Forum I'd previously overlooked, because I was doing a search for the full model# and not just the 1st 4 digits.  I didn't have time to do a thorough search yet, but my sweetie did.  In the hopes this helps someone else who comes looking for this issue,
    Here's the answer:
    http://forums.toshiba.com/t5/Keyboards-Touchpads/Satellite-A665-Media-Touch-Buttons-Unresponsive/m-p...
Specifically the solution given by Jerry_Lippey after the OP's original post.
Jerry, whoever you are I'm giving you a giant online hug!  You just made my month!  =D  Thank you SO much!
The key was my saying earlier the beeping reminded me more of feedback than anythng else, and the OP mentioning the behavior from the media buttons being slow, as if any commands given them were stacked behind a thrashing cpu.  The behavior of my buttons were similar and the behavior of the noise made sense if it were a charge build-up.
So, a new question then.  Does anyone know what causes this build-up and where it's living that it's freezing computers and generating speaker feed-back even before BIOS or Windows loads?  This strikes me as potentially damaging to the mobo and/or chips over time...
So far, there seems to be no damage from the bad attempt at a restore.  Hopefully this will remain the case...  Machine is running beautifully again.  ^_^

  • Memory_Management BSOD after upgrading to Windows 8.1

hey everyone, so I updated to windows 8.1 this week mostly to try out Project Spark, and it's given me nothing but trouble since. My computer has never had a problem running but now all of a sudden I'm getting blue screens left and right, shockwave refuses
to work sometimes, and my computer went into auto repair. I have gotten multiple BSODs with MEMORY_MANAGEMENT as well as at least one for 0xC000021a. It may have to do with all the games I have loaded on my computer, as it's particularly active when I want
to play League of Legends. the dump files are here: https://skydrive.live.com/redir?resid=2E2E8DA8870596AC%21117 . Thank you for your time :)

  • Toshiba Satellite L755-S5306 Blue Screen of Death BSOD

If you are having “The Blue Screen Of Death” (BSOD) with a Toshiba Satellite L755-S5306 you are not alone. Please leave a comment in hopes enough of us can find each other and come up with a more permanent solution than the work around I present here. As of the day this was posted there was nothing index into Google or Toshiba’s forums regarding a Toshiba Satellite L755-S5306 having a BSOD problem.
Unfortunately I don't have an answer or solution so much as a troubleshooting alternative and that is to install Ubuntu 11+. I would rather use windows7 but the fact that Ubuntu runs without crashes indicates that my problem is a Windows 7 software issue. Windows7 is conflicting with either the hardware within my computer or some pre-installed factory software.
This laptop is new (it has only been out of the box for 3 months), has an i3 processor, 4GB of RAM and is still under warranty; until Sept. 10, 2012. I have yet to contact Toshiba but will. Within the last month (Feb. 2012) I started to get multiple BSODs out of no where. These were the following error messages:
    1. KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED
    Caused By Driver : luafv.sys
    2. KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED
    Caused By Driver : Ntfs.sys
    3. SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION
    Caused By Driver : ntoskrnl.exe
    4. PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA
    Caused By Driver : ntoskrnl.exe
    5. KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED
    Caused By Driver : partmgr.sys
You can see my full BSOD error reports here: CLICK HERE
I have done all of the following hoping to solve this issue with no luck:
    1. Re-formated computer with factory shipped disk. Five Minutes after I did this I got the BSOD. That definitely eliminated the idea that it was something I had installed or that it was a windows update conflict.
    2. Got all window updates. That didn’t help.
    3. Checked all drivers manually one by one through the device manager for updates; according to the Device Manager there was no updates.
*However, this is the only area of hope that I have. I downloaded the program Drive Max and it list several drivers as outdated. I can only download two a day and install them. After I have them all installed I will report back as to whether or not I have a BSOD.
    4. Updated BIOS. Toshiba did have a BIOS update available but the update did not fix my BSOD problems. I have seen on this forum many people have had problems with the BIOS but I have not.
    5. Ran window's memory diagnostic tool. It reported  no errors.
60 I also ran Ubuntus memory test and passed.
    7. Check Disk with no errors
After all those failed attempts I took to the Internet. That is when I ran across a post online where a person stated they had the same problem with a similar Toshiba laptop and switched to Ubuntu. After doing so they had no problems. I did the same and agree I have no issues after one week. So I hope this helps for now. If anyone has this problem or finds a windows based solution please leave a comment.

Thank you all for your help.
Since I reformatted every time I have booted up I have turned on the Windows memory diagnostic too. I did this in hopes that if a BSOD occurred it would catch something when it rebooted and today it did after an extended memory test.
I got the standard message, “Hardware problems were detected...Test results will be displayed again after you log on”, however no test results were ever displayed. Does anyone know if there is a way to manually find the results of the test? Also, I ran the test again to see if I could get the results and the second time it said there were no problems detected.
At this point I am suspecting it to be a faulty stick of RAM. Windows 7 utilizes about 1.25GB of ram when booted and Ubuntu 200MB. This very well could be why Ubuntu works without problems.
I have to write a business plan in the next few weeks and cannot send my laptop in until that is done. So I will continue to use Ubuntu until done with my plan and then contact Toshiba. I will post back with any information I get in regards to the problem and once again thank you all for your help.

  • Pegatron IPMTB-TK motherboard version 1.04 and BIOS question?

    Hi,
    I bought a refurbished HP Pavilion Elite m9650f, Win 7 on 04-21-2010
and it too has suffered from the crashes, freezes and multiple BSOD
that many people have been complaining about.  I have the Pegatron
    IPMTB-TK TRUCKEE version 1.04 motherboard.
    HP calls it TRUCKEE-UL8E.
Am I looking to replace it with version 1.04 E01 or version 1.05E?
(With much reading on the web about my m9650f problems,
I finally have it maybe 90% stable after replacing the hard drive,
upgrading to BIOS ver 5.29 and replacing all the RAM.)
I know there is a class action suit including the m9650f pending.
    http://www.hpelitedesktopsettlement.com/
Will I be able to request a repair for my HP computer?
When will HP let people request a repair?
Also, I currently have BIOS ver. 5.29 and notice that there is a ver. 6.10
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=pv-88852-1&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en
BIOS ver 6.10 improves system support for Intel Core i7-980X Extreme Edition processors which is what ver 5.29 says it does.
BIOS ver 6.10 also installs HP Vision Diagnostic tool which I don't know anything about.
I don't plan on installing an Intel Core i7-980X Extreme Edition processor.
Should I upgrade to BIOS ver 6.10 or just leave well enough alone?
    Thank you for your time.
    This question was solved.

    Hi Dashby,
My motherboard is 1.04E01 and it has been very stable.   I have not heard or seen anyone with 1.05.
You can put PCI cards other than x16 in the PCI-E x16 slot such as x1 or x4 cards.
Typically what happens if another video were to be install in the second PCI-E x16 is the total 16 lanes of bandwidth would be split between the two slots.  You can't run SLI or CrossFire on the truckee motherboard so in my opinion a second video card is a waste.  Just use a BIG video card if needed.
You can use PC Wizard and look under Mainboard PCI Express to gain information about the PCI-E slots and the speed that they are running when a card is installed.
The Asus U3S6 expansion card is an interesting piece of technology. hmmmm   I wonder if the bios would support a SATA 3 boot device?

  • HELP...New Computer with blue screen crashes

I recently bought a Toshiba Qosmio x875-q7290. The computer came installed with Nortons internet suite. I uninstalled Nortons via add/remove programs in the control panel. I installed Kaspersky pure. What happens now is that I get a blue screen with white writing that say something about reboot your computer if this is the first time that this error has happened. I can't read the rest of the message because the computer starts to reboot. After doing this about 5-6x, by computer would start to boot up then there was some type of Dll error message and I couldnt advance farther on the screen. I called Toshiba tch support and they suggested a complete system restore(losing all my data). This morning I was having the same problem. Here is what the detail message says

    0x1000007e OR 0x7e tdx.sys
Despite the multiple BSODs, and the memory management errors, this still may well be a software conflict problem. The BHDrvx64.sys file seems to be from Symantec BASH service for Symantec Endpoint Protection. The tdx.sys file a Kaspersky file. If there are remnants of Symantec/Norton AV left on your system, along with the Kaspersky AV, this is not going to be healthy. None of the ntoskrnl.exe, which is the central Windows NT OS Kernel file, crashes are going to help us much.
Click 'Start -> Control Panel - Programs and Features' and completely uninstall any and all Symantec/Norton components that you find there. Then use the Kaspersky Removal Tool to completely uninstall Kaspersky.
If no Symantec/Norton components appear in 'Programs and Features', let us know. It gets a lot more complicated to do this manually. In that case, begin by:
Then trying to stop the BASH driver BHDdrvx64
    a. Open the Device Manager (devmgmt.msc)
    b. Choose View > Show hidden devices and look for the BHDdrvx64 driver under 'Non-Plug and Play Drivers'
    c. Right-click the driver and choose Properties
    d. Select the 'Driver' tab to access the Startup Type option
    e. Set Startup Type to 'Disabled'
    f. Click 'OK' and reboot the system
Yes, Microsoft Security Essentials will provide all the protection you need, and have a much lighter touch with regard to resource demands.
Your Minidump analyses appear below. Give us an update on how things go with the uninstalls and the system seems after that.

  • H55-G43 Stability Problems

Long winded, sorry in advance and I appreciate anyone reading. I'm not an expert yet but I'm learning more every day. Here goes:
I built this rig a couple of months ago, second one I've ever built on my own. Been having intermittent issues ever since. Sometimes it will run great for a couple of weeks, and then it starts crashing again - a night filled with blue screen after blue screen, though sometimes mixed in with a BSOD will be Windows telling me it's not Genuine, or my ethernet and sound drivers go out of whack. (Though that's usually fixed in 2 or 3 minutes because it BSODs again.)
Now, I am using Win7 64 bit, which I'm sure is probably some part of my problem. However, this board can support up to 16GB of memory, so I do plan to go past my current 4GB. I do a lot of video/graphic work and gaming (I built the box with FFXIV in mind, though that game SUCKS.) I'm not doing any overclocking, RAID, or anything special. I'm just using it out of the box.
Some of the BSODs have included: BAD_POOL_HEADER, SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION, and APC_INDEX_MISMATCH.
I have tried SO many things to try and fix this, here's a list of what I can remember trying:
    ~ Bios updated from 1.0 to 1.4
    ~ MemCheck86 is clean.
~ Firmware on hard drive and CD drive is up to date
~ System restore sometimes helps stop the cycle for one night, but then it's back the next day.
~ Switched the positions of the memory chips.
~ Verified connections inside, SATA cables swapped, made sure no kinks.
~ Reformatted and started from scratch three times now. Fine for a few days (sometimes a week or more), then it starts again.
~ When it's having a "crash night" (multiple BSODs in a row), safe mode doesn't help. It will blue screen in safe mode, too.
One other odd symptom, and maybe this is my clue on what to RMA first. Ever since I built it, I noticed that it takes 2-3 seconds after pressing the power button for the system to actually begin to power on. Not a big deal and I ignored it at first, but now I'm wondering. When I swapped the places of the memory, this went away briefly (though it returned).
Another thing I have noticed is that in the Device Manager, there is a PCI Simple Communications Controller (PCI Bus 0, Device 22) that has no driver, and Windows can't find one. I've downloaded and installed all the drivers for this board from both MSI and Intel, but it still insists that there is something it doesn't know how to run. Not sure if this phantom device is my BSOD problem or not, but I'd like to eliminate it as a cause.
Is there a particular device on this mainboard known to have this problem? I looked at the hardware ID of this unknown one and saw that it does strangely have the same ID of the ethernet card (which is working fine at present). Now, I used the MSI updater and it says there's a new ethernet driver right now (updated 9.27.10). Great. However, when I try to run it, it's failing with a popup of "Findfile failed". I removed the ethernet driver, ran DriverSweeper (though I don't think it found anything ethernet related), then tried again with this fresh version. It fails again with the "Findfile failed, and doesn't install at all. I had to let Windows automatically put the driver back, which works all right.
MSI simply asked me to retest HDD, memory, and CPU, but I do not have the resources to do this - I have no extra components around that fit the CPU and memory. I did test the HDD and know it to be sound, even though it's a little on the old side.
I'm to the point of starting to RMA components until I figure out which one it is, but I'd be very happy for any suggestions that will help me avoid that path. Last problems I had were 4-5 days ago. The intermittent nature makes it extremely difficult to figure out what's going on!
    ~Sarah

    Well whaddya know.
So with one chip I let it run a few days. No blue screens since I last wrote, so I decided to go ahead and swap out the chips.
The delay between pressing the power button and the system actually booting was gone again the first time. Yet the moment Windows 7 booted, we went blue screen again, with ntfs.sys error listed. However, a reboot seems to be functioning, I still have that chip in now as I'm writing this.
Does that tell us anything? I would assume this means this is a bad stick of RAM. I browsed around in the Event Viewer and wasn't sure what information might be helpful. Is there a log I can rummage up that will help?
    Thanks again for your assistance.

  • PrPro 5.5 and nVidia GeForce 7600 GT - do they get along..?

This question should probably be directed to nVidia, but since I know that this forum is used by some very talented people, my hopes are that there's one out there that can help..:
After installing Premiere Pro 5.5, using 2 x nVidia GeForce 7600 GT GPUs, I've experienced multiple BSOD's while exporting HD footage from PP 5.5 through Adobe Media Encoder 5.5. Furthermore I've experienced several occations of my screens going black for a second, followed by a "Your GPU driver stopped working and was restarted" Windows message.
I suspected the problems to be related to the co-relation between PP 5.5 and my GPUs (the "driver stopped"-thing almost for certain) and by checking the Adobe GPU compliance list and not finding my GPU there, my suspicion was enhanced.
However, on its driver download site nVidia states that the latest driver 275.33 "Supports the new GPU-accelerated features in Adobe CS5". This statement is not limited to certain versions of GeForce GPU's, so I have to assume that it counts for the 7600 family as well.
So my questions are as follows:
    • Am I right in assuming that my BSOD problems can be related to the GPU?
    • If so: Keeping in mind that nVidia states that the 275.33 driver supports Adobe CS5's GUP accelerated features, is there any way around forging out a fortune on a new GPU to make things work as intended..?
    My set-up:
    CPU: AMD Athlon 64 x2 4200+ 2200 Mhz • Motherboard: M2N32-SLI Premium Vista Edition • RAM: 4 GB Kingston HyperX pc3200 • GPU: 2 x MSI NX7600GT Diamond Plus (Sli) • Harddisks: 4 x Hitachi SATA, total of 1360 GB • OS: Win 7, 64 bit

    Arne,
Don't feel so bad about this. You're not alone in experiencing such indifferent support. AMD, the owner of ATi, is even rougher than Nvidia when it comes to support of older GPUs: AMD has ceased further driver releases for all of its GPUs older than the HD 2xxx series except for critical compatibility fixes (the so-called "legacy support" status), beginning with the Catalyst 9.4 drivers (which pre-date the release of Windows 7).
By the way, if you don't perform any tweaking or hacking (software-wise), the only Nvidia GPUs that are certified to run in GPU-accelerated mode in CS5.5 are:
    GeForce GTX 285
    GeForce GTX 470
    GeForce GTX 570
    GeForce GTX 580
    Quadro FX 3700M
    Quadro FX 3800
    Quadro FX 3800M
    Quadro FX 4800
    Quadro FX 5800
    Quadro 2000
    Quadro 2000D
    Quadro 2000M
    Quadro 3000M
    Quadro 4000
    Quadro 4000M
    Quadro 5000
    Quadro 5000M
    Quadro 5010M
    Quadro 6000
    Quadro CX
The other GeForce GPUs of the GeForce 8xxx or later series with 896MB or more RAM can be made to work in the GPU-accelerated mode in CS5.5 by modifying the cuda_supported_cards.txt file. Your 7600 GT will not work at all in that mode because not only the card has too little RAM, but is also too old.
    Hope this helps.

  • I dropped my iBook

I'm in a bit of a panic. I dropped my iBook/it fell off the counter onto a tile floor. I half-caught it, but it still thudded to the ground. At first, the clicker was stuck in, but I fixed that. Other than that, it seems fine, but it's a relatively new computer & I don't know how to check to see if I messed something up that I can't see.
I'm not lucky enough for nothing to be wrong, I don't think, so can anyone help me figure out how to check everything?
I'm afraid to turn it off in that I used to use Windows, and that laptop being turned off once resulted in multiple BSOD's, followed by darkness.
So. In short, please help me, I'm upset.
    Thank you.

    1. it is NOT a PC.
    2. there is nothing you can do with it turned on that will make it safe to turn it off if there is some kind of hardware damage. It would be wise to back up everything first, but it would have been even wiser to already have things backed up on a routine basis if you haven't already done so.
