Y500 + windows 10 = no network at all.

As the title says, I've got a Y500 that I recently upgraded to Windows 10. only problem is, it has absolutely -NO- network at all! I've stumbled upon this post here https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Windows-10/Windows-10-no-network-connections-or-wifi/td-p/2130264/page/6 that shows Sonicwall's Global VPN may be the cause, so I removed WIndows 10, in Windows 8.1, I removed the VPN client, went back to Windows 10 and still had the same issue.  Anyone else have this problem? This laptop should run 10 without any problems according to their supported systems list....

Good answer i think i need to get airline on fan and heatsink of grafix card , i cant remember when i did it last, those cards are gonna be hard to find now.I have the temp software u mentioned but not seen any alarming temps plus it doesnt show the temps on the grafix card . There is more air going thru my comp as i have 2 120mm fans directly behind front mesh pushing more air thru,i used to use my comp as a rainbow6 3 RVS gaming server back in the day and i used to leave server running overnite for the U.S players if they wanted a change of server. .I have since had a replacement card, im hoping this aint gonna be my 3rd, like i said getting like rocking horse **** to find.any other ideas? Budget not great so need to fix if possible cheaply. I might get 2 of the same 120mm fans i have in my pc gaming rig they pust out some air only prob is it was a fiddle getting the 2 fans in the front the first time round.let me know thnx.

  • Can't See Wifi Network At All w/ iBook..No Prob w/ Windows

The computer in question is a 12" iBook 1.33GHz model. There are several computers connected to a 3rd party router, and the iBook is the only computer not seeing the wireless network at all. Everything worked fine up until 4 days ago. No changes were made. Is the a firmware update or anything I need to do my my Airport card?
Everything has been reset with still no luck.
    What else can I do?

This is actually for a friend, but she has not been around another wireless area. We can see the Airport Card in the system profiler. The firmware version is 404.2(3.90.34.0.P16).

  • Can no longer connect to Windows XP Home Network

I recently upgraded to Mavericks and just noticed I can not longer connect to my Windows XP Home Network. Besides sharing files I also print through that network, but it's not just the printer that's afftected. In "Finder" I see the Home>Office Folder but I can't connect to it. I deleted the printer and tried to re-add it but I get a message saying that the server my not exist or is unavailable.
It's been a long time since I set this all up so I don't even know where to look and/or begin.
    TIA

There is a problem with connecting to a shared printer on Windows XP from Mavericks. But you should still be able to connect to a shared folder, although my testing was with Windows XP Pro, not Home. One thing you do have to ensure is that the Windows user account has a password. You cannot connect to a shared folder on WinXP if the Windows account has no password.

  • Windows 7 and Windows Xp Joint Network...

Dear Members.......i want to ask 2 very common question i tried a lot to find a solution on internet, but couldn't so i am here.
    Our Network Details.
we have a small company with 15 computers all of these computers, when we bought they had installed windows 7 ultimate. just old 2 computers has windows xp. office is divided in to two parts one network is connected through switch (No internet access) and
the second network is connected through wireless router (all have internet access).
Question 1. in our wifi network where all the computers has windows 7 ultimate we have problem of usb diagnostic for exampel if i insert a usb to one computer its reads it but if the same usb i insert in another computer it does not read
it but that computer reads some another usb in this situation for me its very hard to find where is problem if all the computers does not recognize a usb i can imagine that problem is in usb but all the computers reads the usb with there own choice.... i have
tried this(i opened the device mangaer and delete everything under the usb port....and restarted the computer. but it did not solved my problem.
Question 2. in our second network which is connected through Ethernet cable, i saw in host file there is no mapping against any ip address, but when i ping a computer through its name or ip address both of them works. my question is here
that i have not mapped the any computer name with there ip address in host file so how it works...?
    Thanks

    Hi,
For the first question, from your description, seems a computer issue rahter a usb issue, make sure that you haven't set any usb restriction group policies, some policies can block special usb devices as the admin wants, please refer to this link
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/magazine/2007.06.grouppolicy.aspx
If you haven't set any policies mentioned above, then there might be a driver issue, if so, have you tried to reinstall usb controller?

Regarding to the Ping, please see explanation about "how it works" in the following technet link

  • I have reinstalled with Canons driver kit 2005b för Windows 7 64 bit. All works fine until the scann

    Hi!
After Windows update in april 2014 I cant any longer use the scanning funktion via network from Canon MF8330 Cdn multifunktion printer/fax/scanner machine! It worked fine Before the april Windows update installation.
I have reinstalled with Canons driver kit 2005b för Windows 7 64 bit. All works fine until the scanner installation ends, then system report that it cannot install the scanner and I have to try installing again. I have done that now several times but it helps not. I Think it has something to do with that the Canon scanner drivers isn´t 64 bit files, or the problem is that windows update has replaces saome dll file to a never version that not work with Canon drivers.
I have seen that there is a service pack 1 from Canon för Windows 8 and 8,1, can I use that service pack to get a never dll file for scanner or work this only for windows 8 version.
Have someone a solution to this! I have contacted the Canon support already and they say that its a Microsoft problem!
Very thanful for help in this case!
    Greetings
    Sixten
    Hi!
I am installing the drivers from Canons site. It is the newest version 2005b for Windows 7 64 bit to MF8330Cdn Canon multifunction printer/fax/scanner. Installation goes well for the printer and fax but not for scanner drivers. The error message is Could not install the scanner. In device manager is there then a unknown device under Image devices. In Device Manager I try to update drivers, but it does not help either, error message is access denied. I am logged on the system with administrator account, therfore it is strange that I get the error message access denied.
I tried earlier to do system restore back to previous time, but it did not work, error was that the system could not do the system restore because of access rights.
is there anything else I could do.
Here is the MF36SCN.inf file for scanner installation from Canon, if it can help You to go further with the problem. Is there something strange in the inf file that does not work in Windows 7 64 bit Windows, something shows that ther is also same 32 bits parts in the inf file.
    Greetings
    Sixten

How I fixed it, at least for now:
    1. I've been using OC Genie for a few days, it has been working great on Windows but I guess it was causing many games to crash to the desktop so I decided to turn it off, since then the memory issue started to happen, since this morning.
    2. I can only think of my computer got OC Genie addicted, like addiction to crack or cocaine, and the memory, or call it nervous system, wanted more OC Genie, so it gave it to him and bingo, my 4GB readable, but then I used of trickery and deceit to disable OC Genie again and my 4GB is back again without OC Genie.
    Hope this helps someone.

  • Connecting to windows 7 home network for file and printer sharing

    Hi,
I just bought my first Macbook pro (13" 2.66ghz w/ OSX 10.6.4) and it is my first apple product. I was under the impression that it would be able to connect to my home windows network so I could file & printer share. So far I have only been able to connect to the internet wirelessly but have been unable to connect to the home network. All the online help keeps telling me I need to turn on windows sharing but where they tell me to look there is every other type of sharing but windows sharing. Can anyone help?
    Adam

On the PC, right click on C: and when the Properties window opens click the Sharing Tab and then check 'Share this drive/folder'
On the Mac open System Preferences/Sharing check File Sharing in the left column then hit the Options button across right, check the third item "Share files and folders using SMB (Windows)"
Then on the Mac Finder Desktop top menu bar select Go/Connect to Server and in the window that pops open enter smb://nameofPC and hit Connect - another window will pop open asking for the username and password of a user on that PC box, once you enter that you'll have the PC appear on your Desktop and can browse it with the Finder.

  • Cannot see Windows computers in Network!!!

    Hi,
I love my iBook to bits but this problem is doing my head in!
When I first got my iBook, I could see all the Windows computers in my workgroup(called WORKGROUP) in Network. I then noticed after a few weeks that I couldnt any longer!
I can get round this problem by using the SMB/CIFS protocols but I want my computers to appear in Network!
All the Windows computers can see each other. They can even see my iBook in "My Network Places" in Windows XP. However, I can't see any of them in Network! Why?! This problem is killing me! I've checked the workgroup name in Directory access, it is "WORKGROUP" which is the same name in the Windows computers. The iBook even appears in the same workgroup as the windows computers on the in "My Network Places" for all the 3 PCs!
Why can't I see them in Network though!!!

Try the following to change the iMac's default workgroup name: Workgroup to Mshome.
Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > Directory Access
    - Click on the lock icon to allow changes
    - Select the SMB/CIFS option in the list, and then, click on Configure.
    - In the pop-up window, enter Mshome in the "Workgroup:" window, and then click OK to save the change.

  • Disable useless over-thinking by Windows 7 home Networking

I have a series of Windows 7 Home VMs that I use for testing, and they have a SERIOUSLY annoying habit of finding "new" networks when nothing whatsoever has changed. And of course no networking works until I log in and tell Windows it's a Work
network. I understand I can tell Windows that every network is a Public network, but this is not true, they are all Private networks. I guess I could just disable all security on Public networks too, but that is just bad form and I have to believe there is
a correct answer here. Basically, I want to configure Windows to stop thinking (it's a stupid OS anyway, so the less it thinks the better) and just keep using the same network until I decide otherwise.
Any hope for a return to sanity?
Edit: Even setting to Public by default or disabling the services that provide this "feature" doesn't work because I am testing WSMan, which requires Private or Domain (which makes sense). So, back to, any way to configure this OS to stop thinking
    and just work?

  • Slow Accessing Files Across a Windows 2003 Server Network

I posted this quite some time ago in the Os X Forum:
    Hi,
We get the spinning ball when we access files across a Windows 2003 network with our Os 10.3.9 Macs.
It seems that the more files there are in the folder, the longer you see the ball, our Fonts folder can sometimes take up to 2 minutes before you can scroll to the bottom of the folder.
This happens after a computer restart or a program restart.
Does anyone know of a fix for this issue, as it is quite annoying?
Also note: This does not happen when accessing the same files through Os9 classic, even though the machines are running 10.3.9.
The network is all new cat 5 cables and this a relatively new Dell Power Connect 3324 switch connected to a very fast Dell Poweredge 2600 server.
    Thanks in advance,
    David

I'm also running several Macs on a Windows Small Business Server (Windows Server 2003) and the only way I am able to pull up the files was to join each one of my Macs to the Windows Server's network domain. You have to do this through the Directory Utility in the Utilities folder. There is one draw back from what I can tell, and it's something that I need some help with. It seems that once a Mac (running Leopard) is joined to a Windows domain, it takes the log in process forever to finish. Logging into a Leopard Mac alone is pretty quick, but after joining the domain, logging into any of the Macs on the Windows domain takes over a minute. If anyone knows the answer to this one, I'm all ears.

  • I am having a data excess usage issue with my Jetpack although I did not use the VZW network at all.

Background: My home does not have access to landline internet and I am relying on a Verizon Jetpack device rather than satellite cable for internet access.  Within my JetPack wireless network I have several devices connected, iPADs, PC’s, printer, etc. (up to 5 devices can be connected with my system).  Recently, I had one device within my immediate wireless network that I needed to transfer data via FTP to another local device within my immediate network.  The receiving device FTP’d data from device (198.168.1.42) to local IP (address 192.168.1.2).  To understand the data path a Trace rout for this transfer is 198.168.1.42 (source) to 198.168.1.1 (Jetpack) to 192.168.1.2 (receiver).  Note that the VZW network ((cloud)/4G network) was NOT used in this transfer nor was any VZW bandwidth used for this transfer (of course less the typical overhead status/maintenance communications that happen regardless). Use of the VZW bandwidth would be something like downloading a movie from Netflix, (transferring data from a remote site, through the VZW network, into the Jetpack and to the target device).  I also understand if ones devices have auto SW updates that would also go against the usage as well.  I get that.  My understanding of my usage billing is based data transfer across the VZW network.
Now to the problem: To my surprise I was quite substantially charged for the “internal” direct transfer of this data although I didn’t use the VZW network at all.  This does not seem to be right, and doesn’t make much sense to me.  Usage is should be based on the VZW network not a local Wi-Fi.  In this case, Verizon actually gets free money from me without any use of or impact to the VZW network.  Basically this is a VERY expensive rental for the jetpack device, which I bought anyway.  Considering this, I am also charged each time I print locally.  Dive into this further, I am also interested in knowing what is the overhead (non-data) communications between the jetpack router and devices and how much does that add up to over time?
Once I realized I was getting socked in bandwidth, as a temp solution I found an old Wi-Fi router, created a separate Wi-Fi network off the Jetpack, but the billing damage was already done.  Switching each device back and forth to FTP and print is a hassle and there should be no reason the existing hardware couldn’t handle this and charges aligned with VSW usage. Is purposely intended by Verizon? Is this charging correct? And can I get some help with this?
Logically, usage should be based on VZW network usage not internal transfers.  All transfers between IP addresses 192.168 are by default internal.  Any data that needs to leave the internal network are translated in to the dynamic IP addresses established by the VZW network.  That should be very easily detected for usage. In the very least, this fact needs to be clearly identified and clarified to users of the Jetpack.  How would one use a local network and not get socked with usage charges?  Can one set up a Wi-Fi network with another router, hardwire directly from the router to the Jetpack so that only data to and from the VZW network is billed? I might be able to figure out how to have the jetpack powered on but disable the VZW connection, but I don’t want to experiment and find out that the internal transfers are being logged and the log sent after the fact anyway once I connect…. A reasonable solution should be that users be able to use the router functions of the Jetpack (since one has to buy the device anyway) and only be billed for VZW usage.
Your help in this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

  • I'm using Firefox version 3.6 on my '02 Mac G4. When I installed it, it worked fine, But then all of a sudden the "save" and "save as" windows stopped coming up at all when I selected "save" anywhere in Firefox. What happened and how do I fix it?

I downloaded and installed Firefox on my '02 Mac G4. It worked great. Now I have version 3.6. But my weird problem is one day when I ran it, the "save" and "save as" windows stopped popping up at all. I'd left click a picture and select "save as" and nothing would happen. I'd go to the menu and select "save" and still no window would pop up. It would just act as if nothing had been clicked. No loading icon or anything and no "save as" window. I've never been able to get it to work. The volunteer in the live support chat typed "That IS weird.." I tried his suggestion but it did nothing. I may have deleted the plist preferences file in the preferences library folder to get it started again after a freeze up threw it out of whack but I've never had this happen before. And i've tried doing that again to see if that would restore it. But the plist always regenerates itself and the "save as " window still never appears when I run Firefox. The "save" window works just fine in every other program on my Mac, but not in Firefox. Weird..
