YAB - FM11 Find/Change using Selection drops selection after first find

Yet another bug in FM11?
If you are using a selection to limit the scope of a find/change, FM11 now drops the selection after the first find.  Consequently, it can't find anything else that matches as there is no more selection and you have to re-select again. What a PITA!
In FM10 and earlier, FM would remember the selection and just keep searching until it reached the end of the selection.
Can anybody verify this user-hostile (what's a QC test script?) behaviour in the latest pached version of FM11?

I just changed modes in FM11 from strructured to unstructured. The problem does NOT occur in unstructured FM!

    i have and can find all duplicates in my library - after i find them is there a way to delete them (in mass) other than deleting one at a time?

    The only way they would all come over is if your wife had automatic downloads turned on in her store settings on the phone before she downloaded the apps. A popup for this option also comes up when you first sign into an apple id on the phone in the app store. If she didn't have that setting turned on, she'll have to download them one by one.
    She could also try to sync them over from a computer that has itunes on it

  • Find/change using end of paragraph marker /p

    Folks,
    We are attempting to remove a space at the end of a paragraph in unstructured documents.  If I enter ' \p' in the Find text field in the Find/Change dialog FrameMaker finds the the appropriate paragraphs.  If I then enter '\p' in the Change text field in the Find/Change dialog and click Change the space is removed.  However the target paragraphs style is also applied to the the following paragraph.  This occurs in FrameMaker 8,9 & 10.
    If the Find/Change scenario above is followed with these two paragraphs the first paragraphs style is applied to the second paragraph.
    paragraph 1 with a trailing space and using Heading 1 style
    paragraph 2 using Heading 2 style
    Any thoughts?
    regards
    Jon

    Arnis,
    Thanks!
    Yes why bother indeed!  I am at the end of a rather lengthy process to convert the creation and output of Framemaker documents into a database with a web front end.  As part of this the existing documents are imported to save lengthy keying/rekeying.  The output from the system is then compared against the originals.  As a matter of course I stripped of leading or trailing spaces (it is amazing how many there are in a manually created/updated document) so we therefore have noisy comparison documents as a result.
    BTW the trailing spaces are apparently a legacy of the conversion from WordPerfect.
    My choices are to re-import without stripping the trailing space and remove them at a later date or create a script using the FDK, which I am very familiar with, and is the likely outcome!

    Just a wild thought - a real GREP processor, not the mild imitation in FrameMaker, can find a construction like a space followed by a paragraph marker and delete the space without affecting the marker. The technique is a form of the "lookbehind" or "lookahead" feature. I'm zero-skilled at actually doing this beyond just mentioning it, but the technique might work in a MIF, or text conversion, of the file. Search Google for terms like "GREP lookbehind lookahead," without quotes.
    Another possibility is that once the FrameMaker file is converted to the database, it would be possible to use a database command to remove the space.

  • Script a find/change using a datasource

    So I wrote a program (C#) a few years ago that basically opens an InDesign Exchange file, does a find/replace based on a SQL table datasourse and then our graphics folks would just convert the completed INX file back to InDesign and ultimately to a PDF.  Too many steps.
    There are upwards of 2500 pieces of variable data in each file, so a product like DesignMerge is not practical.  Our data file basically consists of 2 fields [LookFor] and [ReplaceWith], I'd like an Indesign script that will just run through the data file and do a Find/Change for each record.  Is this doable and does anyone have any suggestions or starting points?
    Thanks!

    Yes, it's possible. In my oppinion the easiest approach is to export your data to a csv-file and read it by script. I posted an example in this thread.
    However, on PC, it's also possible to exchange data directly between InDesign and Excel, or Access (without csv). I did some tests: the main (InDesign) part was written in JS. Another (Excel) part that opens a workbook, reads records and closes it was written in VB (it is sent from the main part via doScript method). The VB script reads all used ranges puts, them into a string and returns it back to the JS via ScriptArgs.SetValue method (JS gets the string by app.scriptArgs.getValue method).

  • Finished script: Use grep find/change to fill in a supplied table of contents

    This script is now complete, and has been the subject of most of my previous posts. Just in case anyone wanted to know what the finished script ended as, here it is.
    Thanks so much to all. A lot of really helpful folks on this board are very responsible for the success of this task. This script is to be one of hopefully many in the creation of our records. But it's a huge leap forward. Thanks again to everyone that helped.
    Cheers,
    ~Nate
    Task:
    Automatically find town names in listings, and fill in table of contents template on page 2 accordingly.
    Example of page 2 toc, initially:
    Example of a page of content. The town names are what need to be referenced on the TOC:
    Example of page 2 toc once script is finished:
    Because of the need to include the transaction dates on the TOC (comes as a provided, tagged-text file), a simple Indesign-generated TOC can't be used alone.
    This script uses an Indesign-generated TOC that's on a master page called "T-tocGen" ... It then uses grep search and replaces to grab the needed information, and insert it into the page 2 TOC.
    The script will update a generated TOC and then search for an instance of a page number, and town name. The generated toc lists all included towns in the following format:
    (line start)## tab townName(line end)
    In Grep, this would be (please note, extra \ for \d and \t ... javascript needs that for some reason):
    ^\\d+\\t(.*)$
    After the script gets the info it needs from a found instance of the above, it replaces that line with "---", to prevent that line from being picked up once again.
    The script with then place the needed page number in it's rightful place on page 2, replacing the XX.
    A while loop is used to repeat the above process until there are no longer any instances of "^\\d+\\t(.*)$" present.
    Not every town runs every issue, so once the script is done, it removes all remaining instance of "XX" on the page 2 TOC.
    FINAL CODE:
    TOC replace
    This script will use grep find/change methods to apply page numbers in
    tocGen to the XX's on page2TOC.
    // define the text frame of generated TOC

    You are correct but the problem is there are three rows, One row is 100% black, the second is 60% black and the third is 40% black. I want to change the black to blue, the 60% black to an orange and the 40% black to a light shaded blue. In the find/change option you can select the tint you want to find and replace but yea.. does work on table cells.. oddly enough.

  • Edit find/change (not finding all instances)

    I am using Edit>Find/Change to change a brand name in a document — however, this feature is not finding ALL instances of the brand name. I am having to manually/visually edit through the entire doc. Suggestions?

    Hi,
    You could check whether "Case sensitive" is switched on in your find/change dialog. Also check that your find format options are cleared. Click the "More Options" button if the find format options are not showing in the dialog.

  • JS:CS3 Newbie needs help! find/change character styles

    I'm new to scripting and JavaScript is giving me a headache, but I'll keep trying. What I'm trying to do is automate a few things so that the production time of our school newspaper is reduced while insuring accuracy.
    I've played around a little with the text find change sample and the changing or adding paragraph styles in the InDesignCS3_ScriptingGuide_JS.pdf and I barely understand what I'm doing.
    When us page designers receive text to place in the document, our editors mark the text with tags like: < b >text< / b >, where the word "text" is to be bolded. (there wouldn't any spaces between < and b and > etc. I just did that so It'll show up here). We have basic character styles and paragraph styles set up, and we just started working with nested styles.
    Is there a way we can search for the < b > tag and bold everything after it up until the < / b > tag? Sort of the way it does for html (the way it would do for this message if I took out the spaces). It'll be great if it could remove the tags as well, but if not, I know I could create a find/change script to do the removal afterwards.
    I appreciate any input.
    Thanks!

    You've not found yourself the easiest of tasks! You need GREP find/replace, not text. Do you have any experience with GREP? It's worth investigating, it's a powerful feature. The script below handles bold. For clarity, it doesn't do any error checking: it assumes that there's a document with text in it and that the document contains a character style called 'bold'.
    // talk to Indesign, nobody else
    #target indesign
    // reset the Find/Change dialog
    app.findGrepPreferences = app.changeGrepPreferences = null;
    // find everything between <b> and  (including these codes)
    app.findGrepPreferences.findWhat = '<b>.+?</b>';
    // add 'bold' style
    app.changeGrepPreferences.appliedCharacterStyle = 'bold';
    // make the changes
    app.activeDocument.changeGrep();
    // now delete the <b> and </b> codes
    app.findGrepPreferences = app.changeGrepPreferences = null;
    app.findGrepPreferences.findWhat = '</?b>';
    app.changeGrep();
    You can adapt it easily to handle other codes, and at a later stage you could generalise it so that you needn't repeat whole bunches of code.
    Good luck with your first forays. Again, it's not the easiest of tasks, but it's worth getting to grips with.

  • Find/Change whole words in CS3

    Maybe I'm just being dense, but when I do a find/change in ID CS3 I can't find the option to search for whole words only. The default is set to ignore whole words, so I end up finding a lot of undesirable matches. My last search was for "air," so you can imagine how many false matches I got.
    This was quite obvious in CS2, but those options (including match case) seem to have moved somewhere where I can't find them.
    Any assistance would be most appreciated.

    With your mouse, examine each of the icons under the Change field. A tooltip identifies each one. One of them is the one you want.

  • What changed in the Find/Change Object behavior?

    In Indesign CS4 all graphics in a document could be centered through the Find/Change feature (Object tab) by leaving the Find field blank and setting the Change field to "Fitting Reference Point: Center" (clicking the center button). This no longer works in CS5. The feedback is of x number of objects changed, but none have.
    It was handy, now it's gone.

    No objects locked.
    Actually, it seems stranger.
    (BTW- The CS4 version is running on a Power Mac G5, pre-intel, Tiger.
    The CS5 Version is on a  Power Mac G5, Intel, Snow Leopard.)
    If a single graphic is dragged or placed in the document, the Find/Change, as described, does nothing. When a second one is added, it works as expected, unless they are both jpegs or PSDs. In that case, they sometimes, disappear completly and are shown to be (in the links panel) on the pasteboard but not visible there. But, get this, add a pdf or AI file to the doc, and run it again and it works fine again. The revese order also applies. If I delete all but one graphic it stops working again.
    In all cases the fitting commands work fine.
    It seems as if there is some confusion in how the document object model is being addressed and filetype is in the mix.

  • Change location of drop-down selected text display

    When I use a drop-down list, the selected text displays to the left of the drop-down arrow. Is there some way that I can customize the drop-down so that when I make a selection, the selected text displays below the drop-down arrow and not to the left?

    But this way it will display in both places, bcz dropdown list we cannot change.
    Place one text field where you want to show that and assign the dropdown value to new text field on lay out ready event.
    find the attached modified pdf. (check the java script on TextField1::ready:layout event)
    Hope this will help.

  • Changing value in drop-down based on selected value in another drop-down

    Hi,
    I have two drop-downs - changing value in Combo1, should cause the form to be submitted and values to be populated in Combo 2.
    Approaches i tried - 1) I am using an ActionListener. I am having a valueChange method which accepts an action event. However this appraoch is not working for me. 2) I was wondering if I could use Javacsript to catch the OnChange event , the javascript function would call an appropirate method in my ActionListener. I know in Struts its straightforward, but how do i achive the same here in JSF.
    Any tips would be helpful.
    Thanks
    PS: I already came across some threads in the forum, but could not get an answer. Also, I have a retsriction in terms of using Action LIsteners itself.

    Try using ValueChangeListener instead of ActionListener.
    Here's a working example of a ValueChangeListener. You can customize it and use it for your application.
    The JSP will look like this:
         <h:selectOneMenu value="#{globalsBean.selectedFirst}"
              valueChangeListener="#{globalsBean.changeList}" onchange="submit()">
              <f:selectItems value="#{globalsBean.first}" />
         </h:selectOneMenu>
         <h:selectOneMenu value="#{globalsBean.selectedSecond}">
              <f:selectItems value="#{globalsBean.second}" />
         </h:selectOneMenu>The globalsBean will look like this:
    public class GlobalsBean extends Bean {
         ArrayList first;
         ArrayList second;
         String selectedFirst;
         String selectedSecond;
         public GlobalsBean() {
              first = new ArrayList();
              second = new ArrayList();
              first.add(new SelectItem("1", "1"));
              first.add(new SelectItem("2", "2"));
              selectedFirst = "1";
              selectedSecond = "";
              second.add(new SelectItem("White", "White Cows"));
              second.add(new SelectItem("Brown", "Brown Cows"));
              second.add(new SelectItem("Green", "Green Cows?!?"));
         public ArrayList getFirst() {
              return first;
         public ArrayList getSecond() {
              return second;
         public String getSelectedFirst() {
              return selectedFirst;
         public void setSelectedFirst(String selected) {
               selectedFirst = selected;
         public String getSelectedSecond() {
              return selectedSecond;
         public void setSelectedSecond(String selected) {
               selectedSecond = selected;
         public void changeList(ValueChangeEvent event) throws AbortProcessingException{
              second = new ArrayList();
              String newValue = (String)event.getNewValue();
              setSelectedFirst(newValue);
              if (newValue.equals("1")) {
                   second.add(new SelectItem("White", "White Cows"));
                   second.add(new SelectItem("Brown", "Brown Cows"));
                   second.add(new SelectItem("Green", "Green Cows?!?"));
              } else if (newValue.equals("2")) {
                   second.add(new SelectItem("White/Black", "White Cows with Black spots"));
                   second.add(new SelectItem("Black", "Black Cows"));
              setSelectedSecond("");
    }Let me know how it works out for you.

  • I just noticed that I can no longer select photos out of my finder that are located in my Aperture/Iphoto Library.  I used to be able to attach photos to my gmail out of the aperture library in the finder and for some reason, no longer can.

    I just noticed that I can no longer select photos out of my finder that are located in my Aperture/Iphoto Library.  I used to be able to attach photos to my gmail out of the aperture library in the finder and for some reason, no longer can.
    I can't access these images except to go into the applications.
    Also, I'd like to import my iphoto library into aperture, and move aperture library to an external drive.  I tried the import first, but there wasn't enough space.  Then I tried copying over the aperture library onto the external drive but it failed bc it said file was in use.
    As it is, I only have 50gb left on my imac, and the aperture library is 150gb.  Also, I have over 10k images in both libraries combined and there are tons of duplicates that need to be sorted, and hopefully not messed up because I've organized most of them.
    So in short, I need to know how to do the following:
    -select photos in finder in aperture/iphoto libraries
    -move aperture library to live on external drive
    -import iphoto library into aperture library
    -eliminate dups but maintain organization
    -moving forward i need a better workflow so that I import images from camera, and can organize right away into albums rather than creating projects by default and then creating albums so essentially the photos are in 2 different places, even tho they are referenced
    -live happily ever after
    Thanks in advance for any support you can offer!!

    If you're using apps like iPhoto or Aperture then they replace the Finder for managing your photos. The point is that you use the (many) options available via these apps for the things you want and need to do with the Photos.
    So, simply, you don't select the photos in the Finder. I'll append the supported ways to do this - which are faster and will yield the current version of your Photos - to the end of this post.
    -move aperture library to live on external drive
    Managed or Referenced Library? Managed -
    Make sure the drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
    1. Quit Aperture
    2. Copy the Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
    3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching Aperture. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
    4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.
    Referenced -  relocate your Masters first.
    These issues are covered in the Manual and on this forum hundreds of times.
    -import iphoto library into aperture library
    FIle -> Import -> iPhoto Library? Have you done this already? If so are you trying to move the Masters to Aperture from an  iPhoto Library? Or Consolidate them?
    -moving forward i need a better workflow so that I import images from camera, and can organize right away into albums rather than creating projects by default and then creating albums so essentially the photos are in 2 different places, even tho they are referenced
    You can't. Every photo is in a Project.  They’re the basic building blocks of the Library.
    You might want to spend a little time with the manual or the video tutorials. I'm not sure you've grasped the app  you've purchased.
    The following is written for iPhoto, but about 97% works for Aperture too.
    There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto/ APerture:   You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Command-Click for selecting multiple pics. This is what you use to attach your shot to your GMail
    (Note the above illustration is not a Finder Window. It's the dialogue you get when you go File -> Open)
    You can access the Library from the New Message Window in Mail:
    There's a similar option in Outlook and many, many other apps.  If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto/ Aperture.
    If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
    If you want to access the files with iPhoto/ Aperture not running:
    For users of 10.6 and later:  You can download a free Services component from MacOSXAutomation  which will give you access to the Library from your Services Menu.
    Using the Services Preference Pane you can even create a keyboard shortcut for it.
    or use this free utility Karelia iMedia Browser

    Thanks to both of you for attempting to help.  I finally figured out what was wrong . . . it was a Permissions problem.  Very frustrating, but after scouring the troubleshooting tips I finally found the one that solved my problem.  I had to add a User and give it Read/Write privileges to Lightroom.  The file I had to add the User to was Hidden on my Mac, so that added an even bigger challenge to the mystery.  Only a few days left on my trial version!  I hope I have time to try it out!
