Yahoo Broke my iMac!

For some reason I cannot connect to Yahoo to retrieve my email. I can get to Yahoo, but when I click on Mail it times out, this has been happening for a few weeks now.
I also have POP access enable so I use Mac Mail to send/recieve email from this account, but Mail times out too.
I first thought it was an issue with Safari, so I tried Firefox and Shiira but same result.
So I then tried using my MacBook and it working flawlessly.
So it's something unique to my iMac, but I cannot think of what it would be.
Any ideas?

Do you have the Yahoo Premium Mail service that lets you Send and Receive via POP access? If not, that would explain the problem; you can only send email through Mail in that case.
If you do have Yahoo Premium mail, check your account settings for Yahoo in Mail; your Incoming Mail Server sould be pop.mail.yahoo.com, your Outgoing Mail Server is whatever your ISP says. Click on the Advanced tab in Mail Preferences and be sure that Enable this account, Include when automatically checking for new mail, and Remove copy from server after retrieving a message are checked, and that you're connecting on Port 110 using Pasword authentication.
If that doesn't work, I would try contacting Yahoo support.

The file format used by the iOS versions of the iWork apps can only be read by the new iWork apps on your Mac - i.e. Keynote 6, Pages 5 & Numbers 3. Those versions for the Mac require Mavericks, OS X 10.9. The "too old" error on a Mac comes if you are trying to open an iWork '08 or earlier file in the newest apps. If you do have the newest apps you can open the files from your iPad.
If you can't or don't want to upgrade to Mavericks & the newest iWork apps your best option would be to export/share the files from the iPad to a type an older version of iWork can read such as Word, text, Excel, etc.
Or contact AppleCare. They made this mess, let them fix it.

  • Need help with Yahoo Messenger for iMac webcam chat

I'm trying to use Yahoo messenger webcam chat on my iMac.  The camera works, but no one can hear me.  My mic works with Facetime and Skype.  What do I need to change?  Thanks?

Yes it does.  There are only two selections and I've tried each of them to no avail.  Is what I'm asking even possible on the Mac?  I've tried with a few different people and it's always the same problem:  Great picture, no sound.  Facetime and Skype work great, I'm just having problems with Messenger.  It's version 3.0.1 beta.  Perhaps that feature just doesn't work in Mac?
Thanks for responding!  I was worried I'd asked a stupid question!

  • Removal/Disable Yahoo Sync or iMac Sync in Lion

    Here's the problem,
My email account has been compromised so, I deleted it about a few months ago. Everything is fine..cool..Well, in the past i believe I set up yahoo sync with address book. Ok, well I keep getting pop up's asking If I would like to sync the following information-Contacts(which is probably coming from yahoo)..well, ok..so I search around and found out that I would reset sync services..Yay..I did and now I keep getting the message to sync for the first time..well, that didn't solve my problem..So, I decided to search around a little further. Found out I could uncheck syncronization yahoo...ok cool..so i figured that it was checked to I could uncheck it..nope..I checked..it was unchecked..so I was like ***..I figured this might be a software issue with the application or there might be a way I synced it through isync on snow Lepord...well, isync isn't there anymore..so..what do I do? I really don't want to reinstall the OS..so, can I reinstall address book to fix to problem? Or is there a more simple way to resolve this issue..I've tried alot..

Yes, this also driving me nuts. I gave in and said sync and it disappeared and never came back. Unfortunately, for some reason (possibly unrelated) my trial mobile me (I never paid for it), automatically appeared one day and took over 75% of all my contacts! I didn't know this and so I deleted the old mobile me account from address book which then deleted these contacts and then proceeded to wipe the rest of my devices!
I deleted all accounts off address book and reloaded a contacts back from a *.vcf file I had and presto everything back. As soon as I turned on iCloud sync again, so again did this flipping yahoo sync message appear again!
Is this because of old mobile me accounts even those that were just trials that are messing with apple cloud syncing? I have turned everything off and short of deleting my yahoo account I'm not sure what to try next!

  • 10.4.8 broke my iMac

Or at least I think it did. I'm still new to Macs, and have yet to learn the ins and outs of trouble shooting my problems.
That being said, I need some help. After updating to 10.4.8, iLife (sans iTunes) refuses to work. I thought it was contained to iLife, but after I repaired permissions and used Cocktail, apps like QuikSilver stopped working. I'm not sure what my next step is, but I'm not opposed to a complete reinstall of OS X if necessary. I can backup all my music & other important files on my External HDD before the whole process.
Thanks in advance for any advice.

It took a while, but I did the archive and install, and I'm up and running at 10.4.8 with no problems (yet).
If this keeps giving me trouble, maybe I can parlay my AppleCare into a new 24in iMac... just maybe.

  • A compatible Yahoo Messenger for imac

I have friends on ym--I know apple has problems with YM; however, the old version 2.5.3 used to allow cam to work-now it does not. The other version 3.0 Beta YM allows cam for 2 minutes then it is off. To the viewer it states "disconnected" -to me it states "broadcasting no viewers" while I can see myself in cam window.
    1. is there a better version/something I need to do?
    2. I just use ym cuz friends are, is there another system I can download to allow me to join in their addresses-converse? I know YM is not the greatest

What kind of webcam are you using?
I am using YM as I am responding to you. Never had a problem using the webcam (built-in iSight) on any version of YM. Newer YM version has FREE phone calls now. It's free if you want to talk to the person who is IM'ing you. To call someone's actual phone (using a real phone #) it will cost ya!.
    v3.0 beta build 120437
Any problems you are having w/YM, you will need to contact Yahoo!!!! IM customer support.
    Good luck!

  • Security Update 2008-006 Broke My iMac

After installing the most recent security update (2008-006) my computer is absolutely crawling to the point where it is unusable. I'm also seeing the Network Settings changed message when I get to the system preferences after waiting 10 min between mouse clicks and watching the dreaded beachball spin away. I have booted from an external drive and reinstalled the update, repaired permissions, run apple jack, disk warrior and drive genius with no improvement. How can Apple release something that would absolutely destroy my computer? Is archive and install my only option? Will Apple release a fix for this? I s it worth the wait for the next security update. I really would rather not reinstall my system. Suggestions? Help please?

How can Apple release something that would absolutely destroy my computer?
    They can't, and didn't.
Is archive and install my only option?
Might be, or if you simply restored the backup you made prior to installing the update. Though an archive and install may not totally overwrite the security issues. It suggests you have some data files that are corrupted as a result of using Applejack in the past. Such utilities should never be used without a backup.
Will Apple release a fix for this?
Speculation on this board is strictly prohibited. Please read the Terms of Use on the right. Your question requires speculation.
Is it worth the wait for the next security update.
No. Because if one issue happens directly following a security update, chances are it will continue happening until you find the software that doesn't work well with security updates, or the damaged preference or cache file that's doing the problem.
You can sort of backtrack but you should do the following if you have no backup.
    1. Clone backup your machine twice*:
    http://www.macmaps.com/backup.html
    2. Erase and install your operating system using the retail installer, or installer that came with your Mac (whichever is newer).
    3. Run the combo update that brought you where you were before.
    4. Repair permissions.
    5. Run the security update.
    6. Repair permissions again.
    7. Restore your user data to the appropriate folders as outlined in my backup FAQ before once you have verified none of the built-in software is causing an issue. If there is an issue with the built-in software, it says that perhaps your router is not properly configured to understand Apple's security updates and needs an updated firmware or replacement with one that is known to work with the system.

  • I am playing card Yahoo games in my computer.  Just recently it won't let me play as it hangs up when uploading the game. How can I fix it?  Kinda frustrating.

I am playing card games at Yahoo in my iMac OS X version 10.6.8.  Just recently it won't let me play anymore as it won't upload.  Kinda frustrating. How can I fix it.  The only thing that I know I have done is did an update on my computer.

You have no other option other than to activate that phone with a SIM card.  The SIM doesn't need to be an active SIM, however, so any old deactivated SIM will do.

  • Yahoo mail keeps going offline

I updated my yahoo password the other day. Ever since then my yahoo mail (through imac mail app)  has been going offline. I can not send messages using my imac.  I should note that I do not have any issues signing into yahoo.com and sending/ receiving mail. Also usually when I send a message ( using mac mail) it sends from icloud.. not my yahoo.  I am not sure what information you may need.. so here is everything- probably things you do not need as well.
    Software:
    OS X Yosemite 10.10
processor 2.7 GHz intel Core i5
    mail version 8.0
icloud and yahoo are both "online"
    Description: Yahoo!
server name : smtp.mail.yahoo.com (in use by icloud, yahoo)
    TLS- none
    Port: 587
"automatically detect and maintain account settings" is checked
    "use SSL" is checked
    authentication : password
user name and password are correct..

If Mail keeps asking for your password when retrieving mail, then it may very likely be that the password you entered has become corrupted in the Keychain. You should try this:
Open Keychain Access>Passwords and scroll through the list to find that specific entry and delete it; quit Keychain Access.
Restart Mail and enter your password again when it asks, and check the box to save it in the Keychain. If things work as expected, it will not ask you again unless your Keychain or an entry in it becomes corrupted again.

  • Broke ram lever!

So I am a fairly experienced computer user, in both hardware and software, but I just broke my iMac's ram lever. I am annoyed. I was simply pushing it outward like it said, but the ram wasn't coming out, and some more force... it snapped! Oh, and the ram slid out a bit.
Now the lever won't get the ram out, obviously...
Any suggestions on what I should do? I want to get the lever fixed, obviously. The machine is under warranty, and has extended AppleCare. It was just purchased at a retail store last month...
I am a bit flustered, to say the least.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
It looks like an easy fix, the ejector clips mount with a screw as you can see in this photo!!! An Apple Tech should be able to replace the clip in no time.

Call your local Apple Store, explain that when you were upgrading your ram the clip broke tring to eject the factory ram modules!

  • Mail for Mac and Yahoo = useless.  Why?

After too many years to recount as a Windows PC user, I finally bit the bullet and purchased a (very expensive) iMac 27.  Until then email was simple.  I have a wifi network where everything is wireless, including a PC, my iPhone and iPad and, now, the iMac.  Everything EXCEPT my new (and very expensive iMac) logs into Yahoo mail and picks up email no problem.  I can also send email no problem, including from my iMac.  I have researched this exhaustively and understand that there can be a problem if more than one device attempts to pick up mail from Yahoo, so I've switched off all other devices.  Still my iMac mail client cannot get past the Yahoo security system and collect emails.  This has gone on for too many weeks now and my email is unuseable.  Thank the Lord I still have other means of getting to it otherwise I would be seriously compromised in terms of conducting my day-to-day activities.  I have read so much stuff over various fora about this issue that I have to believe that there is an answer somewhere, but I have yet to find it and it's now beyond a joke.  Can someone please tell me how i can reliably and without interruption receive email from Yahoo via my iMac.....pleeeeeease.......

If you have a free Yahoo account, access to incoming mail from a mail client such as Apple Mail is not supported:
How does Yahoo! Mail Plus compare to free Yahoo! Mail?
It may work sometimes, or in certain regions, but not consistently. A free account is accessible only through the web interface.
You might be able to get Mail working temporarily with a free account by logging in to the web interface and confirming your identity, if prompted to do so.

Hi friends . . . I'm not sure if this is a forum that could help me figure out my new problem . . . but I'll give it a try. . .I need some help . . . My email is sometimes being sent to the wrong address. Instead of my Yahoo address, they're sent to AOL instead. At first I thought this was an eBay or Paypal problem, but other mail that I subscribe to is all of a sudden going to AOL instead of my Yahoo address . . .In all of these cases, the AOL address was never registered with the site. I'm not using an external POP mail program . . . just standard Yahoo mail with iMac and Firefox. Anyone have any clue what's going on . . . .thanks in advance for any help . . .
