Yahoo contacts read-only?

Is there no real "sync" with Yahoo contacts in 1.3.1?  In other words, is it a 1-way "pull" from Yahoo?  The release notes don't specifically say it is read-only, but they do say "download contacts from Yahoo".  If so, can anyone say if that's temporary?  I really wish I'd known that before I went to the trouble of merging all my Yahoo and Google contacts?  I only created a Google account because yahoo wasn't available at launch -- I've had yahoo email for years and my contacts were already there and in Outlook.

Yahoo contacts being read only is an issue that does require resolution but I have also been experiencing long delays for updates on my phone.  My Yahoo Contacts once updated take over 24 hours to sync with the phone even though I force a sync from the phone.  I have only changed to using Yahoo since I updated to 1.4 so I do not know if this was an issue earlier.  I used gmail previously but my dominant personal email account has been with Yahoo for over 15 years so keeping my contacts up to date in one location was much easier this way.
Has anyone had this problem?  I have already done the "delete the Yahoo account" and load again after shutting down the phone.  problem persists.
Thanks

  • Yahoo sync read only?

Why is Yahoo sync read only?  That was the whole reason I've been waiting for 1.3.1 update.  I use Yahoo for email, contacts, and calendar events, and one way contact listing is worthless for me (I want my contacts stored and viewable online, and being tied to my email is important).
Is this a temporary measure or is this pretty much a "lol switch to google" message?

I have to admit, like kalldrexx I'm disappointed with this as well.  My story is the same:  yahoo has always all of my contacts and is my primary e-mail provider.  Without two-way sync, it's the difference between looking at a hot car and driving a hot car.
What exascerbates the issue for me is I've an outstanding open ticket with Palm where their backup servers mistakenly created a new Palm Profile for me under the same e-mail address my Pre is registered to, and I've lost about 120ish contacts - until they can somehow fix it.  Yeah, having one-way yahoo sync helped fix some of that, my Pre is more up to date than Yahoo was and now I'm doubling up on effort to update Yahoo with what little my brain can remember.

  • Any way to make Contacts Read Only in Server 10.8/9

I have turned on OS X Server Services Contacts (in either 10.8 or 10.9), set up a user account, added that account as a CardDav to a computer(s) made a group(s) of contacts and imported some vcards so everybody can see them in their Contacts on their computers in 10.8 or 10.9. Everything fine.
What I can't figure out is if there is any way to make them Read Only, allowing only a selected group to have Read/Write privileges. When you have hundreds of employees many of them will end up editing something in the "public contacts" that they shouldn't have done or delete them completely.
If they were read only that would be great.
Any ideas? Other then an exchange server there isn't much out there for Macs.
    Thanks,
    Todd

    Update -
I found a way to make this work. And it is free!
Forget Apple OS X Server Service Contacts.
Use Sogo instead. Works perfectly and is extremely fast in handling our 5000+ public cardev records and 1000+ cardev private records!

  • How to make Contacts Read only?

    Hi
We have a shared cardDAV between 15 macbooks. is it possibe to make some of them read only. I mean some users can only have access to read contacts but not to modify or delete contacts?
    Thanks

    Hi Mehrab -
Wondering if you had figured out a solution to this? I'm trying to do the same thing.
    Thanks.

  • Outlook 2010 - share contacts - read only ?

I have shared my contacts by using the Share Contacts tool.
When I did this Outlook displayed a message about giving read only access - I clicked Yes.
The other user can access my contacts but can modify the list.  I don't know why this is happening because the read only setting should prevent any modification, should it not?

    Hi,
Let's try removing the permission from both Contact Folder permission and Delegate:
    1. Right click on the Contacts folder, choose Properties, then
Permissions tab, select the user, click Remove button.
    2. FILE -> Account Settings ->
Delegate Access -> select the user, click Remove button.
Make sure permissions have been removed from both, then try to share the contacts again, check if the issue persists.
    Thanks,

  • Missing Contact Names - Only Numbers Showing - All Yahoo Contact Data Gone

The other day I did a sync and afterward in the phone tab, all my Favorites and Recents are displaying numbers and NOT the names of my contacts as they had always done before.
Further, if I click on the "Contacts" tab, there are only 10 contacts listed when before there were several hundred!
This was just a sync, no software update. I have tried several troubleshooting steps including:
    1. Checked my Yahoo account online to make sure all contact info still exists there, it does.
    2. Re-entered my Yahoo credentials in iTunes to make sure contact info was syncing. It accepted credentials as expected.
    3. I restored my iPhone using the latest backup (from a few days prior) with no luck.
    4. I restored my iPhone from a backup several months ago (July) and my contact names were back...but all my music, apps, photos, video, etc. was gone so I restored back to the most recent backup.
    5. I then imported all my Yahoo contacts into my Gmail account and then added my Gmail account to the phone in the hope that it would grab the contact names. Nope.
So now I'm stuck and looking for assistance from anyone who can offer my advice on what else I may try if anything. This seems to be a reoccurring issue with Yahoo contacts on the forums here as of late with different people experiencing slightly different behavior (like me having all numbers but missing names and other people having names but no numbers).
What's going Yahoo? What's going on Apple?
What's the fix, or at least a workaround???

    Update on the Gmail workaround:
Importing all my Yahoo contacts to Gmail and then choosing to sync Google/Gmail contacts in iTunes before syncing seemed to do the trick.
I think this is definitely a Yahoo contacts problem and not necessarily iPhone.
    Any thoughts?

  • When connecting SharePoint Foundation 2013 contacts to Outlook 2013 in Outlook it is read only.

    Hello.
When I connect Sharepoint 2013 Calendars and Contacts to Outlook 2013 I receive the message " You cannot make changes to contents of this read-only folder" if I try to insert a new contact or a new appointment in SharePoint through Outlook (in
Account Settings of Outlook, in the SharePoint tab I have "Server version=Not available" and "Permissions=Read Only").
The same users, through the SharePoint web page, insert a new contact or a new appointment.
    Thank you.

  • Exchange: contacts sync from read-only folder

In the past, I have been able to set up a device to get its contact info from a read-only Exchange public folder (set with one-way sync).  Setting up a replacement device, that option is greyed out and the folder in question cannot be selected.  Desktop software version  is 7.0.0.43; device is a Tour 9630 running OS 5.0.  Help?  We are not running BES.

I am going to give followup.
The problem was corruption of my brand new Imac 27.  I went around and around with applecare and they finally figured out that my preferences were corrupted.  Usuallly that can be fixed but they were unable.  Basically, everytime I set the right connection to gmail up, it changed it...
Finally, I set up a new user account on my mac.  I logged into that user and started all over again.  Now everything works.
I spent hours and hours on this...  I bought a mac because "It just works"  No more fooling with the registry and spending forever in dread with tech support.   OK, so Mac doesn't have a registry.  It has libraries.  I spent forever fixing it..   Felt just like my Windows experience.  Hope this isn't a harbinger of things to come.

  • Can I sync 2 iPhones to one itunes account but have seperate yahoo contacts

We have 2 iPhones and want to be able to share the same itunes account which doesn't seem to be a problem. However we can't seem to have separate yahoo contacts synced with the two separate phones. It wants to keep putting my wife's contacts on my phone or vice a versa. Now our Yahoo contacts are all mucked up. Any help would be appreciated. I can't believe we can't do this.

You can sync many devices to one itunes account. I, for instance, have two ipods and an iphone on one account. They all have different setting and contents, but still only sync to one itunes account.
Yes you and your wife can use one itunes account.

  • Problems syncing yahoo contacts to ipod touch Model MB5286 Version 4.2.1

For the last 2 years I have had no trouble updating my yahoo contacts to my ipod touch.  I just plugged in my ipod and away it went.  More recently, the iTunes format appears to have changed and I no longer see the same iPod information menus as before.  Last month I tried syncing my ipod to my computer to update contacts and now my contacts list is empty on my iPod, even though the status line during synchronization shows that "syncing contacts" is being done.  I've updated my iPod passwords under "settings" to match my Rogers Yahoo email account as I thought that may have been the problem.
What is odd is that I now have a new, more updated iPod touch and it syncs just fine.  Any ideas as to how I can get the contacts back on my older model MB5286 (it's only 2.5 years old).

    Try here:
iOS: Wi-Fi or Bluetooth settings grayed out or dim
However, it is frequently a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Why aren't Yahoo contacts syncing to iCloud?

I have 2 contacts groups on my iPad. I have an iPad group and a Yahoo group. I can see all of my contacts on my iPad, but on iCloud.com I can only see my iPad contacts.  If I click the groups ribbon, it only shows one group. What am I doing wrong?  All of my iCloud syncs are on, but the yahoo contacts do not show on iCloud.  Only one group shows on the iCloud ribbon.

Only an iCloud group will sync with iCloud.

  • Help with syncing yahoo contacts

currently sync my contacts with outlook but am soon to change it to sync with yahoo!
When I sync them for the 1st time will all the info on the iphone be transferred to yahoo or the other away around??
I know this sounds daft but my contact list on yahoo isn't upto date and don't particularly want to loose my up to date data.
    All advice greatfully received!

yes it is, but once you have it set up it will sync with your Address Book at the click of a button! I have only discovered this in the past couple of weeks and for the first time ever I can sync my contacts at home with Yahoo and also sync all my contacts on my windows work pc with Yahoo. In effect Yahoo Contacts is now the database for all of my contacts and will sync effortlessly with my PC, my Mac, and consequently my iPhone!!
See the Help section on the Yahoo Mail webpage for more info.

  • Synching Yahoo Contacts to iPhone 4s

Hi- 'm try to sync my yahoo contacts to my new iPhone 4s and for some reason only 150 contacts will come over (I have 173 in my yahoo contact list). Has anyone else run into this problem? I've tried re-installing my mail account and no luck. I've also tried installing the contacts through the Add CardDAV Account that Yahoo suggest but it still doesn't resolve the problem. Hoping someone can help!

Do you still have android? Sync your android contacts to outlook. Then sync it back to your iphone... I didi that..

Do you sync Exchange Contacts such as Google or Yahoo contacts?
Check your groups at Contacts app in the up left corner.

  • Sync Yahoo contacts via iTunes or Address Book?

I currently sync my iPhone contacts with my Mac Address Book, via iTunes. I want to start syncing with my Yahoo contacts also.
There are (at least) two ways to do this:
I can configure iTunes to sync with both Address Book and Yahoo contacts when I sync the iPhone.
I can configure Address Book to automatically sync with Yahoo contacts, in which case I would just continue syncing the iPhone with Address Book as I do now.
What are the differences between these two approaches? For example, will the Yahoo contacts be kept out of my Address Book with the first option but not the second?

I decided to try syncing via Address Book, and it worked great.
FYI, what I was trying to accomplish is having a single contact store in Address Book, Yahoo, on the iPhone, and on my new Samsung Galaxy Tab. The Tab doesn't support syncing contacts with Yahoo, only Google, so I actually had to sync everything through Google.
    Here's what I did:
    1. Synced the Address Book with Yahoo contacts to merge those.
    2. Manually cleaned up the merged contacts in Address Book, then synced again.
    3. Synced the Address Book with Google contacts (in addition to Yahoo contacts). Since I don't use gmail, I didn't have any existing Google contacts.
    4. Verified that the contacts were now in Google.
    5. Synced contacts for the Google account on my Galaxy Tab.
I now have all my contacts everywhere I need them. I think using the Address Book rather than iTunes to sync with Yahoo and Google was the better choice, since I can do it from the Mac without sycning my iPhone.
