  • Before my PC had iTunes, I loaded Aps from store onto my daughter's PC with iPad connected. I indicated my email address and Apple password. Now I want to upgrade to next iPad but Aps in my iPad are not on my PC iTunes. Do I have to buy again to keep them

I'm a new user of an iPad. Before my PC had iTunes (it does now), I loaded Aps from from the iStore using my daughter's PC with my iPad cable-connected. I indicated my email address and Apple password--not hers and paid for these Aps--receipts arrived via my email. Now I want to upgrade to 5.1 but the Aps now loaded on my iPad do not show up  on my PC iTunes library. When I click 'Upgrade' I get a warning message that says all Aps currently on the iPad will be obliterated in the process which of course I don't want to have happen because they're not showing up on my PC which presumably means my PC is not aware of what's on my iPad. Do I have to buy these same Aps again to keep them if I'm going to upgrade to 5.1, and how do I get my iTunes on my PC to back up the Aps currently loaded onto my iPad?

You should be able to copy the apps (and any other iTunes purchases) over to your computer's iTunes via File > Transfer Purchases. And as long as apps remain available in the store, and you use the same iTunes account as you originally used to purchase them, you should be able to re-download them in the future : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2519
If you are already on iOS 5+ on your iPad then you should be able to update the iPad directly on the iPad via Settings > General > Software Update .

Myipad 1 keeps asking me to insert my user name and apple password every 10 mins or so.  How can I prevent this? Thank you.

I don't know how wide spread this issue is. I've only come across the thread I posted before.
You can provide feedback to Apple here.
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/ipad.html
I wouldn't wait for an update from Apple.
I have several other wireless devices (laptop, iPod touch, blackberry) which have absolutely no problems at all.
Since it's just the iPad wi fi issue, try restoring as new.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3828
You may have an app installed that's causing problems with your Wi Fi. After you restore as a new device, sync 5 apps at a time, then test the Wi Fi on the iPad. Keep syncing apps... you might find a culprit.
Scanning the Internet there seems to be lots of other people having this problem.

  • Lion Mail and iCloud Password

Alright, I've seen tons of threads all over forums for this, and no real solutions. And I'm wondering why:
Lion Apple Mail keeps asking me for my iCloud password almost every time I fire it up, or randomly when I've got it already open.
Why is that? I've tried deleting the password from the preferences/accounts and re-typing it several times. That didn't work. I've tried reparing the keychain with the keychain app, but that didn't work.
I don't get it. What exactly do I do? Nothing has worked. Do I delete the entire account in Mail and set it up again from scratch? Sometimes it'll ask me repeatedly for it and nothing works, so I have to cancel and quit, and then wait a bit and start Mail again and hope that it'll take it this time around. Sometimes it'll take it the first time I type it in. Sometimes it won't even ask for it at all.
What's the deal? What do I do? I've looked on this forum and other forums dealing with Macs and, like many others, none of the solutions presented have actually worked. So any tips would be greatly appreciated.

If it works now, it will work from now on.
If you check the preferences for that account, you will notice in the advanced tab that it uses Apple Token for log in. No password used. You can also make the other settings for Mailbox Behaviors.
Also note that when you sign out of iCloud or disable the account in the iCloud sys prefs that it will remove iCloud from Mail until it's re enabled or you sign back in.
    Good Luck

  • I purchased a used I Pad and cannot access facetime. I have email address and Apple password but nothign happens. please advise

I purchased a 3rd generation I Pad ios6.0.1.  I have been unable to use facetime.  I put in email and then apple password, hit next and it takes me back to the same screen.  I also have not been about to use I think it is messaging.   I have been online, purchased music from I-Tunes, can do email. No luck with facetime.  Please advise.  I am new to using a tablet.

If you have purchased a used ipad, and you think there may be a possibility of previous owners info on it, then restore it as new. Your issue can probably be resolved without that, but I would recommend it.

  • G-Mail and Apple Mail problems

I have had tons of problems with my Mail app and Gmail. A window pops open and asks for my password and then does not have any effect on allowing retrieval from the server. Often times I cannot download my mail from gmail at all....have you had similar problems??
    OK....
this gmail/mac mail problem caused me a ton of suffering.....but I think I have it figured out....
I think the problem stems from the fact that if you use gmail through a browser and send messages, for example if you are away from your computer, then those sent messages eventually get stored as new conversations. When you return to using your mail app the messages you sent will appear in your inbox as new mail, sent by you.
I am not quite sure how the next step happens but after a lot of fidgeting what I found was that, after erasing my inbox in gmail(this is probably not necessary), after backing up the messages, I went into gmail's preferences and in POP and Forwarding I selected allow POP for all mail. What happened next was unusual....even though the entire mail box on the gmail server was empty.....when Mail started to get the messages it showed that there were over 300 messages to download. The interesting thing was that most of these messages were sent by me to someone else and had an attachment.
After downloading and erasing all these old messages that were causing this case of Mail constipation I went into Mail preferences>>>accounts>>>advanced and clicked the box "remove copy from server after retrieving message" option and then "right away"in the pull down menu. I also clicked the "remove now" button to clear all previously downloaded messages from the server. I noticed on the Mail app that this happened almost immediatly as Mail went about removing all these old messages from the server.
Since this I have not had any problems. I believe that the problem lies somwhere in the way that Gmail creates "conversations". Somehow sent mail gets spirited away in some nook on the server and accumulates, eventually causing a case of constipation. These backed up messages somehow cause the Mail app to not be able to retrieve new messages. If you find this happening do as I have and see what effect it has. Allow your Mail app to down load all the messages it "sees" and keep an eye on what they are(this may take several hours). Often they will be old and previously sent/downloaded mail. Erase them and make sure that they are erased from the server using the advanced option in Mail preferences.
Maybe someone with a more technical background can explain this phenomenon better.
    Good Luck.

"A search for Mail AND Gmail in these forums (or a
search for just Gmail restricted to this particular
forum) could have saved you a lot of time and would
have provided you a better understanding of what's
going on (note, it should be "Gmail", not "G-Mail")"
I wonder what the purpose of this reply of yours could be. If it is that something I've said has upset you, I don't know what it could be and I really wouldn't care if it wasn't because your statements could mislead other users into misunderstanding how Gmail actually works. There is nothing in the post that originated this thread that has not already been discussed recently in this forum, except for false assumptions that I'll have to clarify now.
First, choosing a setting in Preferences... > Accounts > Advanced > Remove copy from server after retrieving message has no effect on a Gmail account, absolutely none, no matter whether you choose "Right away", or "After a month" or anything else. Yes, Mail will no longer see those messages, but neither would it had you chosen to leave the messages on the server instead. The messages are simply no longer available there for any POP mail client after having downloaded them. The messages are still on the server, however, and you can read them with a web browser. That's how Gmail works.
Second, clicking Remove now in that same preference pane in Mail has no effect on a Gmail account either, absolutely none. The reason this doesn't work is the same as before. The messages on the server have been hidden by Gmail after downloading them and POP mail clients can no longer see them, nor delete them, nor do anything with them, until you go to the Gmail web site and configure your mail account to make all messages still there available for POP download again.
Third, the only way to get a message deleted from the server with a Gmail account is to log into your account with a web browser. Now, if you want your messages to be deleted immediately after being downloaded by Mail, you can accomplish that by choosing the appropriate setting in the web account settings page -- and you are limited to the options provided there. Mail's own settings will continue to be completely and utterly ignored by Gmail.
Now, had you searched these forums as I suggested or just followed the links I provided in my first reply would certainly have saved both you and me and probably anybody else that chose to read this thread a lot of time.

  • Yahoo E-mail and CCing

I have a strange question. When I e-mail my friends using yahoo e-mail (who are also on yahoo e-mail) when they reply to be it adds them to the CC list of their reply. It doesn't do that to me just them. I have no idea why it would be putting them in the CC field of their own reply when I never had them in the CC list in the first place. Thoughts? It only does this when I sent e-mails from my iphone. Also it doesn't do it when I reply to their e-mails only when they reply to one I originally created.

Anyone? If my above message isn't clear I'm just asking if anyone has had an issue where Yahoo E-mail has Carbon Copied (CC) friend's e-mails when they reply to you. So basically they respond to themselves as well as you.

  • Mail and lost passwords

Forgive me for starting a new topic but the long-running saga of missing passwords has been closed.
Fed up withconsistently having to replace password or correct Advanced preferences i decided to remove all trace of my faulty accounts and reinstall them. I removed keychain references to the accounts, copied the Mailboxes for Library to my desktop and deleted the originals, then deleted the accounts. I quit mail, started it up again and re-entered the accounts, allowing Mail to make its automatic links etc. After 36 hours I have had no problems, even been able to restore 15 minute collections of mail rather than collecting manually. Have just installed 10.5.2 and everything seems cool. Fingers crossed. Am I just lucky or have other sufferers tried this?

I presume that everyone with this problem makes a bugreport to Apple. And are there any mor topics where we could rise this problem? As seen there are no people giving solution or fixing tips anymore. The reason is simple. It´s only Apple that can fix this.
I think a topic type " How to make Apple pay attention to this mailbug" would fit. In fact i tried but that was dismissed because violation of user terms. In the explanation I was told this is discussion where you should find tips from others to solve problems. But this opportunity seem ta have run out. I have posted negative feedback to apple but nothing helps.
Why do I feel like those in "Lost"?

  • In vsn 6.0.2 how can I paste a link into the body of a Yahoo e-mail and have the pasted result appear as a link?

    o/s Windows XP Home
    vsn of Firefox 6.0.2
    Step 1) open firefox
Step 2) copy link from address bar into clipboard
Step 3) compose message in Yahoo
Step 4) paste contents of clipboard into body of the e-mail
result: the pasted value does NOT become a hyperlink
<on same pc, with same contents in clipboard>
    Step 5) open IE
Step 6) compose message in Yahoo
Step 7) paste contents of clipboard into body of the e-mail
result: the pasted value becomes a hyperlink ... the fact that the link becomes a hyperlink in the IE browser makes me think that there may be something in the Firefox browser that is controlling whether the pasted value becomes a link.
I'm not sure, but I believe the update to firefox 6.0.2 was with the past few days.
I'm not sure, but I do not believe the symptoms from steps 1 - 4 were present a few days ago
    Questions:
    1) could this feature have been introduced in 6.0.2?
    2) I would prefer it if the pasted value would become a
hyperlink when working in firefox; what steps do I need to take to make this happen?
    Thank you

Now Tony, I know you can't hear my tone on a forum post but I was not complaining, simply stating facts . This change brought several people in my office to a grinding halt in a long established workflow that is really rather simple (and I thought was already assumed from the original post above ):
    1) Select a set of records in FileMaker Pro 12 and export only their e-mail addresses as a CSV file.
    2) Open that CSV file in Excel.
    3) Copy the column of e-mail address.
    4) paste into the appropriate recipient field in Mail.
    5) Send
If I were to complain it would be about Apple's typically opaque approach to updates. There is no granular explanation of why changes were made or even "what" changes were made.
Complaining is futile since Apple is Apple and is unlikely to change, but sometimes it is cathartic to "shout into the void" .
I had thought about doing something with a formula in Excel and your suggestion was simple and helpful. Again, however, it is only a workaround for a long established helpful behavior that Apple has inexplicably broken/removed in Mavericks Mail.
I, and the other posters here, would love to have the capability back rather than have to add previously unneeded steps to our workflows.
Ultimately we may add scripting steps to the FileMaker side to export the address lists with commas inserted already if Apple ends up having permanently removed this feature.

  • When my wife registered my phone number as her emergency rest number I then received an email asking me to confirm my Apple ID and Apple password.

When I was asked to confirm my ID and password by Apple it keeps saying ID and password do not match BUT if I go onto iTunes and log in using exactly the same ID and password they work perfectly???
I cannot register confirmation of acceptance as my wife's emergency backup email address

    Welcome to the Apple community.
If you are unable to remember your password, security questions, don’t have access to your rescue address or are unable to reset your password for whatever reason, your only option is to contact Apple ID Support, upon speaking to an operator you should explain that your problem is related to your Apple ID, this way you will not be charged for assistance, even if you don’t have an AppleCare plan.
The operator will take you through some steps you may have already tried, however they need to be sure they have exhausted all usual approaches before trying to reset your account, so you should try to be helpful and show patience with the procedure.
The operator will need to verify they are speaking to the account holder and may ask you some questions that only the account holder could know, and you will need to answer them if the process is to proceed.
Once the operator has verified your identity they will send a message through to your device which contains an alpha numeric code, which you will need to read back to them.
Once this has been completed they will send an email to your iCloud email address after a period of 24 hours, so you should check that mail is enabled in your devices iCloud settings.
Upon receipt of the email, use the reset link provided to reset your password, after which you should be able to make the adjustments to iCloud that you wish to do.

  • G(oogle)mail and Apple Mail: Cannot receive messages

    Hello,
I have a googlemail account. My email address ends with "@gmail.com".
I am trying to configure the Apple Mail application in Mac OS 10.2 (Jaguar). I can send but not receive messages.
The German website says, i should set the server to "pop.googlemail.com", enter my password and use my email address "including '@googlemail.'" as username.
Well, I think that is the reason why I cannot connect to the server, my Email address is gmail not googlemail.
But whatever I enter in the respective fields (pop.googlemail.com, pop.gmail.com, pop3.....) all fails.
Stupid as it is: event copying my settings from my smartphone does not help.
What are the correct settings for me?

    Thank you,
    that really solved the problem.
For all German customers, who participated in the public beta test of Google Mail ("invited users") and who have an email address, which ends with "@gmail.com",
the correct servers are "pop.gmail.com" NOT "pop.googlemail.com"
    and "smtp.gmail.com" NOT "smtp.googlemail.com".
Their German website is wrong in these cases. Moreother, the hint is missing, that SSL has to be activated for incoming mails as well.

  • Changing Mail and MobileMe Passwords

    Hi all,
I tried to change my Mail password by going to Preferences and then Account Information, but now I understand that doesn't actually change the password - it just changes the password that Mail is using to try to log in to your mail server.  How do I change the password on the server?
My account type is iCloud IMAP and my incoming mail server and outgoing mail server (SMTP) are p03-imap.mail.me.com and iCloud (iCloud) respectively.
    Thank you

Thanks, I have changed my Apple ID password (i.e. my iCloud password). Does this mean even if someone gets into my account on my old job's Mac, they cannot just launch my Mail app by clicking on it and see all my emails, etc...  Right?
