Yahoo e-mail service vs. AOL e-mail service

From what I've been reading in here... it looks as if we HAVE to have either a Yahoo e-mail portal/service or an AOL e-mail portal/service. When I first started with Verizon (DSL service back in 2003 and FiOS service since about 2007)... you could get your e-mail DIRECTLY from Verizon (e-mail programs were setup for incoming.verizon.net and outgoing.verizon.net for servers).
So... if we HAVE to have either Yahoo or AOL for an e-mail portal/service... which one is better???
I've been using the Yahoo e-mail portal/service for a few years. However... Yahoo has a 10 Meg limit for a single file size for file attachments and I think a 20 Meg limit if attaching multiple files.  What is AOL's single file size limit  and total limit if attaching multiple files???  Also... no matter how many times I tell the Yahoo e-mail that an e-mail ISN'T spam... it keeps catching those e-mail and putting it into their spam folder (ie: like e-mails from PayPal that are confirming a payment has been made).  I can go thru my online spam folder every week or two and find e-mails in it that aren't spam.
Thanks,
Mike

OK ... hot off the press personal experience here:
4:45pm 12/15/10 -- Accessed the MyVerizon account settings to attempt to change my portal from Yahoo to AOL.  Went thru the prompts and motions and got to the end when it fails with an error "due to technical difficulties"
4:50pm 12/15/10 -- Started a chat session with Verizon
4:51pm 12/15/10 - Chat session answered and "Samual" offers to help me.  I explain my problem as "I am attempting to switch my Email portal experience from Verizon Yahoo! to Verizon AOL! and the process is failing.
4:52pm 12/15/10 - Samuel asks me a few questions and starts to walk me thru the original conversion process from 4:45pm.  I politely inform him that I've been there already.   He asks if I mind doing a screen sharing session so he can see the error first hand.  I agree
4:55pm 12/15/10 - Samuel is using GotoAssist to view my screen and check some settings, resetting my browser settings, etc. and then runs the conversion program and encounters the same error (I am filling in various password / account information along the way so he doesn't need to know them).
4:56pm 12/15/10 - Samuel escalates to email portal team.  This takes a while -- he updates me every minute or two to let me know that they're working on it.
5:05pm 12/15/10 - Samuel tells me that they need to unlink me from Yahoo! before moving me to AOL! and that they are working on that now.   I tell him that actually -- I really hate portals and am switching to AOL! just to get rid of the blasted Yahoo! portal -- so if they can just do the unlink and leave me on the Verizon servers that would be even better.   He says "no problem!"
5:10pm 12/15/10 - Samuel says conversion should be complete and provides me with the original Verizon pop/smtp server settings.   Using a second computer, I reconfigure my mail client and being to check.
5:15pm 12/15/10 - I've confirmed all is working having sent myself a message from a Gmail account and received it in the mail client.
So there you go ... I'm back to the original verizon servers and no more Yahoo!   Yeah!    It can be done!
So ... kudos to Samuel.   Give that man a spot bonus!
And for those who say that chat never works, Verizon techs don't know anything, service is horrible, etc.   --  well, the above certainly doesn't seem to play out that way to me.   Polite and patient conversation works every time.

• Keeping my BT Yahoo Premium Mail Account, I am hav...

I cancelled my BT Broadband Option 3 subscription around Nov 20th 2011 and I discovered on the internet that my BT Yahoo Premium mail would be terminated 90 days after my BT Broadband was cancelled, I've had my bt email account for around 10 years so I don't want to lose it.
I've been running around in circles trying to get the £1.54 monthly charge setup so that I can keep my exisiting BT Yahoo email account all have lead to a dead end .. could you please help me .....
Here are some problems listed below that I've encountered:-
1) I navigate to the following BT website link where it advertises to 'keep my email' account for bt yahoo premium for £1.54 / month, I enter my email account and it states "there is a problem with the status of your account" and doesn't allow me to progress further with the upgrade. Here is the link...
http://www.productsandservices.bt.com/consumerProducts/displayTopic.do?topicId=26508&s_cid=con_FURL_...
I still have a bt.com/btyaoo account and a BT landline and I can setill see broadband being billed for Nov 2011 so I don't understand why it will not allow me to upgrade here on the link above.
2) I was advised by BT operatives to go to the following alternative BT web page to upgrade to BT Yahoo premium mail and most of you will be more familiar with this one... however it only allows the user to generate a NEW BT Yahoo email address NOT KEEP your EXISTING email address despite the link advertising that you can keep it..... after entering my bank account details and I enter my btopenworld email account the web page stops with an error stating that my BT Yahoo email adress is 'already taken': here is the link, also there is a link from my http://home.bt.yahoo.com/  'my account' page to the very same link stated below... the link is named 'Upgrade To Premium Mail' which is very deceptive as it is not an upgrade of your exisiting email account its an entirely new email address that it allows you to create only and this is no good. Here is the link .. with the premium link right at the bottom...
https://register.btinternet.com/cgi-bin/registernow?version=ie5&ex=1&product_type=PMR
3) I was advised by a BT operator to contact the BT Yaho premium mail team on the phone (I have a BT phone landline btw) and I called 0808 100 6778 Option 2 (email) Option (1 Change email) on a Sunday at 11am and all I got was the following message then the line cut off, the team should have been there as the message stated but the help service team was not available which is perplexing .. here is the message is this service dead ?
"Welcome to BT our advisors are available from 9am to 9pm Monday to Friday and 9am to 6:30pm Saturday to Sunday"
     Not true...
I remember calling the yahoo premium email team around the 20th Nov 2011 (about a month ago) and they told me that I would receive an email warning me that my BT Yahoo email account would be cancelled in 90 days with an option to upgrade to premium... this email has not been received (I even checked bt yahoo spam folder) hence why I am getting worried about not being able to renew my BT Yahoo Email Account.
4) I called up other BT Broadband and technical numbers but they can detect from my BT landline that I no longer have BT Broadband so those numbers are not availale to me for help.
In summary it seems that you do have a service to upgrade to BT Yahoo Premium Email for BT users who have left BT Broadband but it is EXTREMELY difficualy to obtain to customers who are willing to pay for this service. Can anyone out there please help me. If I lose the email account it is a very serious matter to me as I have had it around 10+ years.

I'm moving from BT Broadband. I'm wanting to keep the email address and have found that going here...
http://bt.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/12682/~/what's-the-difference-between-bt-yahoo!-premi...
and then clicking on www.bt.com/premiummail gets you:
Sorry, this page is currently unavailable
The tip (as stated above) about phoning the number above worked well.
I was told by the support person there is a 90 day grace period after the end of the BT Broadband and an email will come through on about day 86. The guy on the phone said ring the same number again then to upgrade to subscribe to the service.
If there is a department in BT that looks at things that don't work on their website it might be worth fixing this.

• BT Yahoo E-mail - how to protect my primary addres...

I've just joined, and it looks like a good time to join as I've only
found 11 postings to check on 'BT Yahoo E-mail'. I've also tried
the BT website but I get confused with the many different
names, and confused between Yahoo and BT Yahoo. If you
are in a hurry skip the next paragraph.
After about 20 years with dial-up BT internet using a very short
E-mail address (I thought this was clever at the time) I still collect
tons of spam on that account (now PAYG, kept in reserve).
So when I upgraded to BT Broadband (Option 1) I chose a new, long,
muddled primary address which, of course, is also my address for accessing
the broadband service. I have decided only to use BT Yahoo
webmail and only to use the 'disposable' addresses provided by
'Address Guard'. But, of course, whenever I wish to send mail the default
sending address is my primary address and I am worried that sooner
or later I will use this by mistake when I wish to keep it to myself.
Question) Is there any way I can select one of my 'Address Guard' addresses
instead of my primary address to be the default address for sending e-mails
using BT Yahoo?
Solved!
Go to Solution.

Thanks to Andy_N, 86sixsix and Ectophile for some ideas but it looks as if
I have failed to describe the problem sufficiently clearly, for which I apologise.
I have no problems in sending messages 'as from' Address Guard
'disposable addresses', which appear in the 'reply to' field and the
replies are indeed addressed this way and they arrive OK.
All these disposable addresses are associated with my primary address.
I realise I can set up sub-addresses, and perhaps I can create
a new set of disposable addresses attached to these (I'm not
asking about this), but this would then move my 'problem' to the
sub-address and I would need to migrate all my traffic to a new set
of disposable addresses.
I'll try to re-state the problem -
I send all E-mails via BT Yahoo each using one of about 100 different
addresses of the form [email protected].
I go to 'mail' > 'New' and I have a drop-down menu in the 'From'
box listing all these addresses in alphabetical order together with
my primary address, which happens to be at the bottom, and which
would otherwise be at the top, which is highlighted in blue for
selection. So if I'm 'tired and emotional', or just plain careless,
I might just click on this one first instead of scrolling up to the wanted
address and so I would be sending an E-mail from my primary
address which I do not wish to reveal (because I could not
extinguish any resultant spam by withdrawing that address from
use). What I would like to do is have the BT Yahoo system
offer me one of my disposable addresses as the default choice
so that any carelessly-sent message will go from a disposable
address. Better still I would like to have to 'unlock' something
ibefore my primary address.even appeared in the list.
So I'm expecting to learn either that this cannot be done within
BT Yahoo as it is, or that there is a mechanism for doing this but
I have failed to find it in the documentation, or that there is a
mechanism for doing this but it is undocumented, or that an
administrator is able to make this happen at my request.
If this facility is not available within BT Yahoo I hopethat I am not
alone in wanting it.

• BT Yahoo e-mail Account and MacBook Pro

Hi All
This is my very first post, so please be patient if this topic has:
1) Already been covered.  The ones I have found seem a bit too technical for me (embarrassing!)
2) Shows I'm a bit of a novice
For a number of months now I have been happily plodding along with accessing both my AOL and BT Yahoo emails usingmy MacBook Pro.  That was until last week when I noticed I was being prompted for a password for my BT Yahoo emailaddress.  Upon entering my password, which I know to be correct, it came up with another message stating that it wasn'trecognised.  I then uninstalled then reinstalled the BT Yahoo email account and am continuously getting the same issue.  Iwill walk through when adding an account in the hope that someone may be able to thankfully help!  Again, please excusemy novice walkthru.  I am not the greatest expert when it comes to issues like this!
RE-INSTALLING BT YAHOO ACCOUNT
On MacBook, go to Mail, Preferences and click on the + to add a new email account.
Following fields are required: Full name, e-mail Address and Password.  These are already detailed, apart from thepassword which is entered.
The following message is then displayed: Mail cannot send your password securely to the server.  You cancontinue without a secured password, which could put your password at risk. Alternatively, you canmanually set up your account.Do you want to continue without a secured password?
If I click Continue the following message is displayed: Logging in to the Yahoo! POP server “mail.btinternet.com”failed. Make sure the user name and password you entered are correct, then click Continue. If theinformation isn’t correct, you cannot receive messages.
If I proceed and click Continue again, the Incoming Mail Server screen appears with the following completed fieldscompleted as follows:
Account Type: POP
Description: btinternet.com
Incoming Mail Server: mail.btinternet.com
User Name: ******@btinternet.com
Password: *********
6.  Upon clicking Continue again, the Incoming Mail Security screen appears, with:
An unticked option labelled: Use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL)
A dropdown menu which is automatically set to: Password.  Additional options from this dropdown are External(TLS Client Certificate), Kerberos Version 5 (GSSAPI), NTLM, MD5 Challenge-Response and AuthenticatedPOP (APOP)
7.  When I continue with the SSL option ticked and Authentication defaulting to Password the Outgoing Mail          Server screen appears with the following options:
Description: btinternet.com
Outgoing Mail Server: mail.btinternet.com (other drop down options is: smtp.mail.yahoo.com relating to thisemail account)
Ticked option of Use Only This Server
Ticked option of Use Authentication
User Name: ******@btinternet.com
Password: *********
8.  When I Continue, the Outgoing Mail Security screen appears, with the Secure Sockets option ticked and the              Authentication dropdown displayed with Password.
9.  I click Continue again and a summary of the above appears.  I click Continue, then it looks as if my email account is          being set up.  However, the following message then appears:  Enter password for Account "btinternet.com".
The Yahoo! POP server “mail.btinternet.com” rejected the password for user “******@btinternet.com”
Enter your password again or cancel.
The above isn't the only issue though.  Unfortunately I seem to be missing all of my subfolders under this emailaddress.  Prior to the problem I encountered above, all of my sub email folders were in line with BT Yahoo and theadditional devices I use to retrieve/check my email.
PLEEEEEEEEEAAAAASE could someone help me?  A very basic walkthru would be much appreciated!  Not only is my concernthat I cannot get my BT Yahoo email on my MacBook, but also my sub-folders.
Many thanks in advance, and apologies for the long winded email!

• (Mac Mail) How to obtain Yahoo! Mail when: You're inbox dissapears or does not show after all settings seem perfectly in place.

Hello everyone!
Note**: I am in no way attempting to illustrate how to get FREE email listing from Yahoo! Mail, I am only reciting what I have stumbled upon. I do not know if Yahoo! actually wants this to work in Mail. but it does, so if they didn't want it to work they will patch it or something. I recommend that you take advantage of their paid service(annual) which allows POP forwarding of emails quickly and withou any need for reconfiguration.
I hope this "fix" is not being rementioned or creates redundancy, however after hours of searching all sorts of foums(including the Apple forums ofcourse) I was unable to find a true fix. Simply put, I just got a brand new Macbook Air 13'' for Christmas 2011. I also bought a Macbook Pro 15'' back in late 2010. I was never able to get Yahoo! Mail configured even through methods of IMAP rather than POP or POP3. Oddly enough, on my Macbook Air and Pro, now, when I try to redo the Yahoo! settings, my Inbox would display messages for a matter of seconds and then the messages would dissapear. However, there was still a number next to my Yahoo! e-mail, accurately indicating how many unread messages I had. I fixed it like so:
1) Go to www.yahoo.com-- Configure Yahoo! account via account settings to work off of IMAP rather than POP Forwarding. Do so by going into account options on the top right or left hand of your screen and clicking through the forwarding options until you see IMAP. Make sure you save your new settings! This is very simple and I feel requires no further explanation. If you become confused, let me know and I will go into detail then.
2) Once your Yahoo! Mail account is IMAP simply go into the Mail application on OSX (Mac). On the top bar of the Mail pane click on the "Mail" option in between the Apple sign and File.  Then, Click on Preferences from that dropdown pane. When this window appears, Click on the "@" symbol that says "Accounts" right under it. This is in between General and RSS options. Under the left-hand list that says "Accounts", click on the "+" sign as opposed to the "-" sign you will see there. This will allow you to setup an account or additional accounts. A window then will appear with options:
3) ****Make sure you ARE connected to the internet wirelessly or via ethernet for this part!****
---------- Full Name: (Enter Full Name Here)
---------- Email Address: (Type in full email address, e.g.: [email protected])
---------- Password: (Type in your password to your email account, this IS CASE SENSITIVE.)
4) Now! Listen! (lol), hit create and let the mac show you the settings it has pinged back from the Yahoo! mail server. It should illustrate that your e-mail is an IMAP based email address etc. As long as the account is created with the IMAP configuration and Mail reads it as so, you have succeeded thus far.
5) Critial Step here: Go into the Mail application on OSX (Mac). On the top bar of the Mail pane click on the "Mail" option in between the Apple sign and File.  Then, Click on Preferences from that dropdown pane. When this window appears, Click on the "@" symbol that says "Accounts" right under it. This is in between General and RSS options. Under the left-hand list that says "Accounts", click on the Yahoo! IMAP account. Close to the top of that page between the different Mail options and the account settings you will see three different bar pages: a) Account Information, b) Mailbox Behaviors and c) Advanced.
6) Click on the Advanced tab. Do not touch anything on this page, except, IMAP Path Prefix. This is located in the middle of the Advanced page screen right above Port, where you will see |Port:   993   (Box IS checked for: USE SSL). In that IMAP Patch Prefix type the name of your Inbox(I say this because some people rename it in Yahoo!). Mine is simply "Inbox" so my configuration in Mail looks like so: | Imap Path Prefix:  Inbox |. After this, click on "General" or attempt to close the Mail options window and it will as you to save the new setting. Ofcourse, hit yes and click the Get Mail envelope and you will see your Inbox populate, assuming you have new mail.
What this means: Test your OUTGOING mail server by sending yourself an e-mail either from your Yahoo! Mail or from another email. Thus, this will allow you tot est your INCOMING email as was now reconfigured to IMAP by seeing if you actually receive the email.
Reason for doing so in this sequence: By letting Mail create the account it will properly import all of your mail folders you have in your Yahoo! Mail account. Obviously, your Inbox and Outbox as well as Sent and Trash folders will import but I have additional folders, for example, that also imported for putting financials or receipts into different folders for organization. Once these are populated naturally, by changing the IMAP Path Prefix you're telling the Mail application where to send your new emails. Atleast this is my understanding of it.
Unfortuntely, I am not an officially educated 'techie", however, I have been fiddling with computers over the last 20 years and have been training myself to become Apple expert, seing as I have decided to completely convert to Apple products. Apple is just reliable. This, to me, is priceless. I truly hope I have helped you and that I have saved hours of Youtube video watching as well as forum searching for many. Should you have any questions, FEEL FREE to ask! I love helping others, hense why I have made this post(my first Apple post). Happy Holidays everyone and enjoy!

What Mac Mail did was delete ALL inbox messages from my yahoo account, after one week from importing them to Mac Mail.
The Yahoo server did exactly what you Mail program told it to do.
Mail/Preferences/Account/Advanced - This setting is adjustable for each mail account.
I didn't know about this feature until it was too late. I have already unchecked it for future emails.
I was wondering if there is a way to retrieve these deleted messages back to my yahoo inbox.
Not Really, you could forward them to your account, after you've told your mail program not to delete the emails at all, but they will show up as being from you instead of the original sender. The originals at Yahoo have been dumped and probably purged. It would take an IT manager at Yahoo to manually replace the emails, not much chance of that.
I've already asked yahoo to "restore" my inbox to a day ago. That should help me with retrieving some of the messages back, I hope.
Also, I was wondering about the sync feature on the Mac Mail and what will actually happen if I use it. Does it apply to mail messages, or to address book and calendar entries?
The sync feature refers to IMAP email accounts like .Mac or .Me or an Imap gmail account. I didn't think Yahoo offered IMAP email accounts.
Apple's MobileMe membership will let you sync your Mail, AddressBook, Calender, personal website with iWeb, etc.
"MobileMe is a service that pushes new email, contacts, and calendar events over the air to all your devices. So your iPhone, Mac, and PC stay in perfect sync."
http://www.apple.com/mobileme/
I wanted to use Mac Mail, see if I liked it or not, then decide to get a MobileMe account. However, this is still a side note, since my yahoo account is my main email client.
You seem to be very well informed, and I was wondering if I can ask you to clarify a point for me. Do you know how to archive the inbox in the Mac Mail?
And thank you for answering my queries.

I have a Treo 700wx and use Verizon with Yahoo premium mail service. I can send and receive emails but any attachments on incoming mail is "removed" before I receive it. I actually have a message at the bottom of my email that tells me attachments have been removed! Can anyone tell me how to fix this? Is it an option I need to change on my Treo software or what? I receive the attachments fine on my desktop when logged in to my Yahoo account. And I called Yahoo and they verified that their ssytem is working properly.

• Advantages of Apple's MAIL over webmail alternatives (e.g., Yahoo! Mail)

What advantages there are, if any, to using Apple's MAIL program over, e.g., Yahoo! Mail?
I began using email on the Internet long before I got a Mac and so have been a longtime user of webmail (i.e., Yahoo! Mail).
Webmail has one obvious advantage -- it can be accessed anywhere (including on PC's).
Webmail, as it currently exists, also has one great disadvantage -- its customer service tends to be poor, largely (so it seems to me) because it is staffed by people who are poorly-trained and often none-too-bright (my impression based on some of the replies I get). There are also no user forums for Yahoo! Mail comparable to those available at apple.com.
To date, that has not been enough of a problem for me to switch.
However, if there are particularly useful advantages to MAIL I'd like to know -- maybe I'll change my mind.
Are there any?
Thanks. Replies appreciated.

Webmail's major advantage is that you can always access it even if you don't have a computer with you. The disadvantage is the degree of management control you have over your mail.
A dedicated mail application provides management features that webmail usually does not. An advantage of Mail is the integration with iCal and Address Book.
You would need to use a dedicated email application for a while to determine if the additional features are something you need enough to warrant moving away from a webmail account, although ideally having an email ISP that provided both webmail and remote mail access would be ideal. You can have that with Yahoo but only with their upgraded fee account. Free Yahoo mail is only accessible via the web.

• Workaround for MailTo Yahoo! Mail Helper Application bug?

I don't know if there is an active bug report for this, but for Firefox 8 with the MailTo Helper Application set to Yahoo! Mail, choosing File: Send Link opens the Yahoo mail form and inserts mailto:?To=<link> into the To: field, instead of simply inserting <link> into the Body.
I tried setting up a new MailTo Helper Application via a Javascript similar to those prescribed here: http://www.davidgilson.co.uk/2009/09/make-webmail-firefoxs-default-mail-client, but Firefox did not seem to respond to the script.
I also installed GmailDefaultMaker (which also supports Yahoo Mail and several other webmails) and tried to use that to straighten out Firefox's Yahoo Mail setup, but it accomplished nothing.
Working with the preferences in About:Config got me nowhere.
Editing MimeTypes.rdf with Windows XP Wordpad was promising. (Notepad doesn't work due to the wrong kind of character encoding.) Replacing every instance of "http://compose.mail.yahoo.com/?To=%s" with "http://compose.mail.yahoo.com/?Body=%s" results in mailto:?Body=<link> being inserted into the Body. That is an improvement, but nowhere could I find enough documentation about MimeTypes.rdf to figure out how to get rid of mailto:?To=.
(For documentation, there is http://kb.mozillazine.org/MimeTypes.rdf, but that is incomplete.)
Does anyone have a workaround?

Tom, thanks for your offer. Here is the explanation from my service provider, which includes a quote of the raw source. They're pointing the finger squarely at Apple Mail. Beats me, can you shed any light? It would be much appreciated...

3D is equal to the = sign in the windows character map and is being written effectively twice, once in its windows format and the other in unicode, this makes the html invalid and unreadable by some readers and fails all validators that we've have put it through.
Some applications may be able to correctly determine the duplicate nature of the characters and render the html but not all.

• Mail & Yahoo! Mail!!! more info please???!!!

Hi all,
I am new to the Mac and new to the Mail for sure
i added my Yahoo account to the Mail application, but where\how can i find my "Folders" - "Spam" Folder "Trash" and all that???
do messages i receive\send stay\go on yahoo server as well???
and how can i Sync my FOLDERS!!!!
Thanks a lot for the help guys

so i can't get anything else than Inbox & Sent!!! well, that's not so much workable with!! and i guess Mail with Yahoo is a bit useless to be honest!
Not true. I use Yahoo! every day and it works perfectly. Unless you have a compelling reason (and very few people do) to need all your email on your Mac and kept on the server forever, you don't need anything else.
You can't use Yahoo! Mail for what you say you want, since it's not an IMAP service, and even if it were, it would cause more problems for you than it's worth. Mail works great with Yahoo! Mail. Gmail offers an IMAP mail service, but it's not a true implementation of the IMAP standard, so you'll have problems with that, too.
If I were you, I'd stick with what works; you don't need anything other than Yahoo! Mail.

• BT Yahoo Premium Mail

I recently moved my broadband and telephone service to another as I cannot get a date for availability of BT Infinity.  I received a letter from BT saying that my email account will be downloaded to the pay-as-you-go dial up service, which I will have to access by dial up at least once in the next 60 days, and thereafter once every 90 days thereafter, or the account will be closed automatically.  I note, however, that the BT Yahoo dial up service terms state that at least 14 days will be given before closure.
In practice I am continuing to access my email account over my new supplier's broadband connection and wish to know what conditions I must meet in order to retain the account.  I understand that I will have to pay £1.54 pm to retain the account by upgrading to BT Yahoo Premium Mail, but by when will I have to do this and will I receive the above 14 days notice of closure of the account if I have not done so?

Hi David,
Not too sure how I missed this, sorry.
You’ll not get a 14 days notice per se for the email account but sometime before the 90 days are up you will get an email advising how you can sign up to Premium Mail.
After the 90 days the account goes on to a deletion list, and once the account is deleted it’s gone.
Thanks,
Stephanie

• BT Yahoo, e-mail client and phone

On 16 November I was unable to access my BT Yahoo e-mail account. I usually access through Thunderbird or my Android phone.  Reasons unclear but I had had no problems since March when something similar (but transient) happened.  Password was reset and since then I can access BT Yahoo webmail.  BUT I have been unable to reestablish neither my desk top computer  e-mail client (POP3) nor my phone (IMAP).  Ditto for my wife's sub-account and I-phone. Accounts have been deleted and recreated; settings checked and rechecked; and passwords changed. On my last call to BT I was told that the problem had to be my end if I could access webmail. I might accept that argument if the problem was on a single platform but as I cannot connect to the server across multiple devices (and it was working perfectly before) I am yet to be convinced.  In the last few days on occasion after several retries my e-mail client or my phone will connect but it is very flaky. Sometimes a webmail password change helps but fails the next time a connection is attempted. Colleagues suggested a cache problem and I have made sure these are cleared - no obvious improvement.  Meantime I have had to set up a forward instruction for my wife and myself to our gmail accounts to establish any sort of service.  In my last contact with BT (apart from being told that IMAP was only for Apple!) it was suggested I called in a local technician - frankly I don't know what to ask.  For some reason I am not able to connect and I would be most appreciative of suggestions re a way ahead.  BT have failed to respond to an e-mail and have not called back at a pre-arranged time (over and above the other calls) so I am pretty fed-up as you may have guessed if you have read this far!

BT Yahoo has had loads of issues over the recent week(s), see fixed messages above. My android phone and my pop 3 client has had log on problems off and on, but it seems to be getting better. Over this time BT Yahoo webmail was working as probably on a different platform their end. I found the following like good for checking outages, its Yahoo mail but if you are on BT Yahoo I have found it accurate.

• Mail and Yahoo! Mail continually "refreshing"

I recently added my Yahoo! mail account to Mac OS X mail. The problem is that it is continually "refreshing". The wheen for the Yahoo! account never stops. None of the other mail accounts I have set up are having this issue so I'm pretty sure it is a problem with the Yahoo! account but I don't know if it is something in the settings on the Yahoo! end that I can and need to change, or if there is a setting on the Mac OS X Mail setting I can and should change. Has anyone else had this issue? If so, have you solved it, and if so, how? Using 10.7/Lion.

Gmail, AOL, almost everything but Yahoo!. It ***** because I use my Yahoo! account for Facebook so that I get them in realtime on my phone but I can use it in Mail. This really aggravates me...a lot.

• Mail to get Yahoo! Mail

Hi All,
I am trying to get my Yahoo! mail account to appear in the Mail app.
I am using Mac OSX Tiger.
Can I do that? If so how?
I have searched all over the site but found no help to setting up.
Looking forward for the reply.
Cheers

You have to make sure one thing: are you allowed to use Yahoo! POP3 service?
If your Yahoo! account ended as "@yahoo.com", you have to subscribe to Yahoo! Mail Plus Service to get the POP3 service, which is not free. However, if you have a "@yahoo.ca" account, you should be able to use it for free after enabling an advertising option.
http://help.yahoo.com/help/ca/mail/pop/pop-02.html
If you do have access to use POP3 service, then the only thing left is to find the correct POP3 and SMTP server address. It is listed below:
http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/mail/original/mailplus/pop/pop-14.html
You MAY have to use a different SMTP server address from your ISP in order to be able to send emails out.
