Yahoo email hacked

My Yahoo email account started sending out email for **** websites to all my address book on Sunday.  Suggestions on best way to find the bug and get rid of it?
Thks, Ian

If somebody hacked your email account and got your contacts, it's very unfortunate. Changing your password would be good, but probably too late since they already did the damage. You do need to take that up with Yahoo - I'd suggest sending them an email (their security department would be a good choice).

  • Yahoo Email HACKED via having logged in from my Blackberry

My Yahoo Email account becomes hacked and password compromised anytime that I use my Blackberry to log into my Yahoo Email by going to the Blackberry web browser, then my.yahoo.com, and then logging in.
After the hacking I will use a computer to go to Yahoo Email and change the password.  The hacking will then stop.  Then if I use my Blackberry to login to Yahoo Email via the Blackberry web browser then the account becomes hacked again within minutes.   I have isolated the hacking to the Blackberry as I only use my personal computer and the Blackberry to login.  I will go weeks without a hacking incident but once I use my Blackberry to login to Yahoo Email the account shows logins from Canada within 5-30 minutes and then within 12 hours the spam emails start getting sent from my account.
I can view the locations of logins to my Yahoo Email and they are typically from Canada when the hacking occurs.  After this hacker has gained access to my account then they start sending spam from my email to all of my contacts for a link to buy some sort of berry supplement.
How is this hacking happening through my Blackberry?  Is there a virus on the device?

Yours would be THE first with a virus... so let's knock that out.
What's happing is there is a plethora of spammers and "bot" spammers out there which do nothing but find active Yahoo email accounts and "fake" the email "sent" from ID from those "bot" spam machines. They don't know your password. It just sees an active email account, and makes it appear your account is sending those emails.
They don't have to have your account password. No hacking. Just simple tom-foolery.

  • How can I turn OFF my Yahoo email password from Firefox memory. since it was hacked last week.

Some time ago I let Firefox remember my Yahoo email username and password. Last week someone hacked into my Yahoo email account and used my email address list to send out lots of yucky spam to them. I have changed my Yahoo password, but now, just for safety's sake, I want to have that password blank whenever I sign in. How do I toggle the Firefox memory OFF so that it doesn't remember my new Yahoo name and password? I would prefer to log that name and password in myself from now on.

I'm back on Firefox 13.01 and the webmail and Yahoo Home page appear to be sorted.
From another similar problem, I learned that going into Tool/Options - Network Settings, and changing the proxy setting from AutoDetect Proxy to Use System Proxy, or No Proxy gets rid of the password pop-up problem.
I've been using 13.01 for the last 10 minutes or so, with Yahoo as my home page, and I've ended and started FF five or six times, and each time, my it went straight to my homepage without requesting a password. E-mail looks to be working fine as well.

  • My yahoo email was hacked into via my Blackberry 8530 Curve

My yahoo email was hacked into as I opened an email on my Blackberry 8530 curve.  They were able to change my email password, steal and delete my contact list, send all my contacts and email saying I was in London and desperately needed $1500 and set up an alternate email in Yahoo so that if some questioned the email requesting money they would reply it was really me.  Is there anything I can use to protect the Blackberry phone from this type of thing from happening.  Nortons phone security doesn't work with RIM  Thanks for any help
    Jack
You should also know YAHOO was of now help at all in helping or even stopping this from going on.  They only respond with canned emails.

Thanks for the response.  No one else used my phone.  Unfortunately, I'm still skeptical of your conclusion.  I have disabled the yahoo e-mail through my Blackberry message center and changed the password on my yahoo e-mail account.  Fortunately, I have had no further occurrences over the past few days.  To regain some confidence in the security, I feel inclined to create a new yahoo e-mail account, add some contacts, enable it through my Blackberry message center and see if the same thing happens.  Any thoughts on that?
omg, your Yahoo account was hacked probably from India or China or Turkey, by running password code breaking software on the account. The hackers do this ALL day long and ALL night long across the internet guessing passwords combos.
It has nothing do with your BlackBerry. Your BlackBerry email data is encrypted. Your PC or internet connection to your Yahoo account is very likely not.
    Your "test" won't prove anything.

  • My BT Yahoo Email Account has been hacked again

Since I started to pay £1.60 a month for my BT Yahoo Email account (a few months ago), I have been inundated in spam (I received 33 so far today) and I am careful who I give my email address to! AND today I have received messages from the Mail Delivery System saying they could not deliver messages which I have NOT sent! Someone has hacked my account again, now I think the fourth time this has happened and sent spam to all my contacts, but the messages do NOT show up in the sent folder. When this has happened in the past I have changed all my security information but it does not stop this from happeneing so:
    1) How or why is this happening?  It has never happened with my hotmail accounts.
    2) How can I stop it, short of deleting my account?
    3) How can I get hold of someone at BT to report these problems and make a complaint - on live chat they just tell me to ring an 0808 number, can't I email someone?
Many thanks for any help you can offer.

Your account has more than likely not been hacked again. If it was previously hacked, when Yahoo had its systems hacked, your email address and all your email contacts would have been harvested by the hackers. This means that they can send spam emails to your contacts anytime they wish without having to hack your account.
They will have spoofed your email address so that the emails appear to be coming from your account. This is to fool your contacts in to thinking the emails are from you and are safe to open. When the emails are not delivered they will be returned to your email address hence the Mail Delivery Sytem returns..
There is nothing you can do other than to stop using that email address and tell all your contacts to treat any emails from it as spam and to delete them.

  • My Yahoo email/been hacked

I am writing here as a last resort.  My Yahoo email was hacked and I am no longer an AT&T user (now CableVision).  I have been trying all evening to change my password, stop the massive emails to all my contacts and keep being sent to AT&T to help me and of course they can't.  Any advice?

  • My Yahoo email was hacked, and I have a Macbook

HELP!!!!  I've contacted Yahoo to restore my emails and contacts, changed my password, run an anti-virus program, done what I was supposed to do.  No luck.  Lost all emails since 10/2012, lost ALL contacts in my address book, and I'm no longer receiving email from anywhere.
This may be the wrong place to ask these questions, but since I own a Mac, I thought I'd try.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions!
    Laura

There have been issues recently with Yahoo email accounts.  One of the issues I've seen is where users download Weatherbug, which apparently creates an issue that compromises Yahoo email  for that account.
Do you maintain your mail only on Yahoo's servers ( you access mail through your web browser), or do you download mail to your MacBook and use the Apple mail application? If the latter, how did you lose mail since 10/12? If the former (hindsight is a wonderful thing), then start using Apple mail, download mail to your MacBook, and of course backup your MacBook.

  • My Apple ID is my Yahoo email address My Yahoo email is now corrupted by the latest virus. Do I need to change my Apple ID to say, gmail, instead of Yahoo?  If I do change Apple ID, what are the consequences - do I lose apps etc? Thanks

Wondering if it is necessary to change Apple ID if my yahoo emails are infected by virus? If I do change it what happens to all apps  etc previously purchase ors acquired using the old Apple ID?

An e-mail account cannot be "infected." I'm guessing that you are seeing that it is sending out e-mail containing malware of some kind... if that's the case, that just means that either someone is faking your address in e-mail being sent from somewhere else, or your e-mail address has been hacked and is being used to send malware spam. Either way, it would be prudent to change the password on your Yahoo address, as well as any other online accounts that might be associated with, or that use the same password as, that Yahoo address.
As to the question regarding Apple IDs... all your app purchases are linked to your Apple ID, so if you abandon your current Apple ID, you lose all those apps. You would have to re-purchase them on the new Apple ID. So this isn't really a good solution, and isn't necessary in this case.

  • My Yahoo emails keep disappearing on my iMac.

My Yahoo emails keep disappearing on my iMac. I see them one second then POOF! there gone. Sometimes I'll see the number count of unread emails but no emails are displayed (See below). I see them on iPhone and iPad no with no problems. I do use Spamarrest as a go between to help filter out spam that YAHOO SPAM FILTERS IS SUPPOSED TO DO,  but I dont think thats the problem since my iPhone & iPad are working fine. I think it is with the iMac but not sure what else to do. I have deleted the account and created a new one, sycronized, took it offline and then back again only to see that the problem is there again. The emails will randomly show up but as soon as I click away and then back again "POOF" they are gone or slipped on their invisability cloak.  This is totally weird.

Have the same problem. Have seen quite a few of my yahoo mails disappear & not reappear. Am unable to see them even in my yahoomail inbox or in the sent mail folders. Am worried if my mail account is hacked. Further, there are sounds that I keep hearing every now & then which seems like someone in the background is snooping in & checking items on my Mac.

  • Can't receive yahoo email

My sbcglobal email account was hacked. I changed the password. I can no longer receive email from my yahoogroup. I have free member email now.
    HELP!

    Hi JavaBrat,
I'm assuming that you only use Yahoo mail on the web and not through a mail client, such as Outlook or Thunderbird?
Also, make sure all of your Yahoo emails are going directly to the Yahoo inbox and not to sub folders or junk folders. Only the inbox will be delivered to your BlackBerry.
If the above doesn't help, feel free to send me your PIN via Private Message so that I can see if there are any issues on our side with your account integration.
    Thanks!

  • Email hacked. Best spy ware or mal ware for mac?

My yahoo email was recently hacked. What is the best spyware or malware for a macbookpro (Mac OS X Version 10.6.8)? Thank you.

Your mail account has almost certainly been hacked on the server, not on your computer, unless someone has had access to the latter.
Log in to the mail server's web interface and change the password. If you use the same password for anything else, change those passwords too, and make them all different. Internet passwords should be random strings of at least 10 characters. You most likely don't need to, and should not be able to, remember them. They should be saved in your keychain and backed up with the rest of your data.
One way to generate a secure password is the following. Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    openssl rand -base64 10 | cut -c-14 | pbcopy
Copy the selected line to the clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Launch the built-in Terminal application and paste into the window that opens (command-V). A string of 14 random characters will be copied to the Clipboard. Use that string, or a substring, as the password. To generate another random string, press the up-arrow key and then the return key with the Terminal window active. You can then quit Terminal.
If the compromised account is on Gmail, then changing the password may not be enough. Follow all of Google's instructions to secure it.

  • Our Yahoo email account is sending out spam messages

our yahoo email account received a spam message that I stupidly opened. Now we are receiving messages from our contacts saying they are receiving strange attachments. We changed the password.  Should we be sending a group message to all of our contacts? Should we be scanning the iPad for viruses?

There is no known malware capable of infecting an iPad, unless it has been jailbroken (ie, hacked to allow apps from outside the App Store). So you didn't get infected with anything, and opening the message had nothing to do with it.
Your e-mail account probably got hacked and is being used to send spam. Changing the password was all that is needed, just make sure it's a good, strong password not used by any other online accounts. Also, if you were using your old e-mail password for any other online accounts, they may have been compromised. There's a lot of information in the typical e-mail account that can help a hacker locate all your other online accounts.

  • My Yahoo email quit. It sends but doesn't receive.?

2 days ago my yahoo email was hacked. After the hacking my email worked. I have been changing settings on my computer and phone. Today no mail came in my inbox on Yahoo or gmail. I sent mail out, but none came in. Normally I get a lot of mail every day.

Make sure your account settings are correct. It sounds like the receiving server or port is set wrong.

  • How do I go back a page on the Ipad mini? I do not see any arrows anywhere. Also when I go to my yahoo email account and open an email I can not find how to go back and log out. This is our first Ipad and it is very different frm android. Thanks

We just purchased our first Ipad. It is a mini with retina display 16 GB. How do I go back a page? I see no arrows to page back. Also when I log into  a yahoo email account and open an email I see now way to log out? Thank you for any help

In Safari, (the web browser), there are specific arrows to go back and forward through website pages.
In other Apps, it will depend on how the App is built.
As to Yahoo Mai it depends on where you are viewing the email.  If you are using the Mail App, then you don't log out.     The Mail accounts in the Mail App are always there.
If you are using the Yahoo App, You can Tap on the folder at the top, then on your account/name, and then on Sign Out.
