Yahoo Hosting Vs. Computer as Server. I need to know if this will Work???

I just set up an account of Yahoo with their geocities Free website hosting.

I really like the fact that they give you free space on their servers even though its only 15mb it's really all I need for my club website. I am currently hosting a website off of my G3 Mac (using it as a server) I am using the built in Web Sharing feature, therefore my website is my IP address, I was wondering if it is possible to make the files People access from my IP address hosted off of my geocites website, but not use their domain. I would like to just keep my IP for now until I purchase a domain from Go-Daddy. My reason for this is my Computer must be left on and it can't bee asleep for people to access my Webpage. So I would like to be able to have somone hosting my website for free, with my IP still as my address, I don't think this is possible but it never hurts to ask right?
1. Is there free web hosting place out there that will let you do this?
2. Is there anyway I can make my computer wake up when someone tries to access my site?
3. Is there anywhere that gives you a fully customizable website for free?
4. Is there any other options I have?
Internet Wiz, Just a couple of points, to think about.
The software that yahoo offers to develop your website is for PC only.
I use this service myself.
I paid for my domain name, I also let Yahoo Host the site with Geocities.
I also have a PC that I use strictly for doing any changes on the site.
I am the WebMaster, Thus I use them for everything, and I don't have to use my equipment, for anything, other than making changes to my site.
Yes you can use Mac Software and yes you can use your equipment to host your site. I opted several years ago to use Yahoo for the ease of use.
If you choose to use your own Software and your equipment, bear in mind it is a 24/7 proposition on your part. for your equipment...Hope this helps..Don

Check out what system the carriers in Qatar operate on and check the technical specs of the iPhone 4s.
The chances are the iPhone 4s will work fine on their network.
You will need to make sure the carriers in Qatar offer Micro SIM cards to use in the iPhone 4s. If the carriers don't offer Micro SIM, you will not be able to use the iPhone 4s with a standard SIM (without a bit of SIM card surgery).

I need an application that will allow me to save email messages from a forum and cross reference them by email address, topic, keywords, date etc. in order to make a easily searchable database out of the information contained within the emails.
I know next to nothing about database software so am asking if the free version of Oracle will do what I need.

I know next to nothing about database software so am asking if the free version of Oracle will do what I need.Well, XE doesn't "ship" with taht kind of applicaiton, nor do I know sample applications that do exactly would you are searching for. But XE could be a platform. This depends on how much of the application you expect to implement yourself and how many users would use that application. The "free version" of Oracle Database (Express Edition aka XE) is limited in various ways, e.g. to use just one CPU at a time and not more than one GB memory in total, as well as (of release 11.2) 11 GB for user data on your disk. So, if this is application shall be used by only a few users and you'll find 11 GB enough for your database, XE can be sufficient. XE also comes with a lot of PL/SQL APIs that can do a lot of things for you, even SMTP support for fetching emails is possible.
As for the front end, you have Oracle Application Express (APEX) in XE that will allow you to build the frontend for your database very easy. You'll find a few example applications and a lot of tutorials on APEX that can help you with that job.
If you have your favorite development framework already, you can surely use XE as database backend for lots of frameworks, e.g. using JDBC or .NET providers.

Yes you can delete the Smaert Album. It will not delete the photos.

I wanted to test the setup and installed the CPU, RAM, a video card (specifically: GeForce 8800GT) and fired it up. I got a long continuous beep. I tried installing it with only 2 memory slots filled up, and still, long beep. I just got the MoBo (today) and haven't checked which BIOS, as I don't give that beeping a chance to linger and I just power down.
Thoughts?Look at the BIOS chip, what is the number on the sticker?
Please do your testing with the MB outside the case on a sheet of plain brown cardboard. install in the case only after you have verified that all is working OK. -
My computer motherboard and hard drive burn up with cs 4 on it. I got a new computer and cannot reinstalled cs 4 on the new computer. The serial number stated invalid. I needed a serial number that will work.

I just bought Lion from the app store and I was wondering how long it will be there for because you can't buy a hard copy of it and I was told they were fazing it out so if my computer crashes and I need to install it again will it still be there??

If you purchase an OS from the Mac App Store, it will be listed under your Purchases and will be available to download again if you need it. Note: the license is only for you and is not transferable; if you sell your Mac, you must uninstall it and reinstall the original system.
If you did buy Lion - out of curiosity - since it is no longer showing in the app store, how did you buy it there? Or did you call Apple and they sent you a redemption code? -
f i have a mid 2009 mac book pro and an apple tv that is the latest one. i can not mirror the mac book on my tv. is it the fact that my computer is a little older than 2011 models which will work. any info is greatly appreciated
chuck schickYes. You need 2011 or later in order to mirror as it requires the newer processor. The alternative is airparrot, which does it via software.

I'm thinking of buying an ipad (1) wifi for my mom who lives in Kenya. I understand the charger is universal and will work with an adapter. Any other issues I need to know about? Will the ipad work ok?
She is 68 years old and has vision problems. My thought is that it would be eaiser for her to see than a ipod touch. She would use it for music, maybe reading, some games. I'm not sure she would be adept enough to download many apps, so we'd prbably load it up for her.

For vision problems she can enable zoom. Tap Settings / General / Accessibility. -
I was advised to uninstall previous version of iTunes from my computer and install version 7 in order for the program to recognize my apple devices but I need to know if I will lose my library?
iTunes 7 is about 7 years old. Almost certainly your devices would not be recognized. Could you possibly mean 10.7?
It would be useful to know if you are using a Mac or Windows.
Upgrading software normally does not affect the library. Still, there are weekly complaints by users who say they have lost something while updating so you should make sure you have a backup of your computer before updating any software at all. -

I bought an Airport Express from a supplier who told me I'd need at least iOS 5.4 on my iPad. My first generation iPad is apparently up to date but the iOS is only 5.1.1. Before I unpack the device I want to know whether it will work with this earlier version.
Apple says that a minimum of iOS 5.0 is required. See the support document below. Look for Requirements on the left hand side of the page about half way down.

Sorry about that, yes, 10.5 and 10.6 on Intel can run Firefox 4.
Here's the process to roll back:
First, I recommend backing up your Firefox settings in case something goes wrong. See [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Backing+up+your+information Backing up your information]. (You can copy your entire Firefox profile folder somewhere outside of the Mozilla folder.)
Next, download and save Firefox 3.6 to your desktop for future installation. http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/all-older
You could install Firefox 3.6 over Firefox 4 (many have reported success) or you could uninstall Firefox first. If you uninstall, do not remove your personal data and settings, just the program.
Firefox 3.6 should pick up where you left off. If there are serious issues, please post back with details.
