Yahoo imap mail

I have been successfully using Yahoo imap mail within Mac Mail for years, but now it won't work.  What's changed?  How can I use Yahoo mail in my mail program??

Hello Ahji,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I understand that your Yahoo! email is not working as expected in Mail on your Mac. To begin troubleshooting, I would suggest reading over and working through the suggested steps in the attached article.

  • Yahoo IMAP and OS 10.5 mail setup

Has anyone figured out how to make Mail in OS 10.5 work with Yahoo IMAP mail? If so, any help would be appreciated.
    Mike

Yahoo dropped the ball on this one, as did Apple. Moving to Mobile me so we'll see if that works.

  • Lion Mac Mail Yahoo IMAP issues

Each time I lauch Mac Mail on my Mac (running OS X 10.7.4), it downloads my entire inbox (thousands of messages) from the Yahoo IMAP mail server. Also, when sending emails, Mac Mail does not always create a copy on the Yahoo mail server. Sometime the copy is there and sometime it isn't.
    Anyone else having this issue?

This is definitely not Yahoo-specific, nor is it new.  Definitely seems to be a bug in Mail.app.  This has been happening at least since 10.5 (am now on 10.8.2), and I have a GoDaddy hosted IMAP account.
Same symptoms...I delete emails on my Mac in Mail.app.  I've gotten into the habit of forcing a manual sync.  The emails disappear from the Mac, but several minutes or sometimes many minutes later, if I look on my iPhone or iPad, the messages have not been deleted.  If I subsequently go look on my Mac, or at the server through a webmail browser - they're back.
However, if I delete the emails from my iPhone or iPad - they really do get deleted.
As stated up above - quitting and reopening Mail.app can force a real sync that gets things going back in sync...it seems like maybe Mail.app somehow forgets to actually sync...so when this starts happening - i.e. I notice deleted emails still appear on my iPad - if I quit mail and reopen it, it also shows the previously deleted email.  So the symptoms seem like there is a "cache" of actions (deletes) in Mail.app that is not getting processed to the server.  When you quit, this list seems to get flushed and whatever is causing Mail.app not to sync to the server gets remedied and on restart, the not-deleted emails show up because Mail.app now syncs with the server.  Occasionally it seems Mail.app somehow can come out of this without being restarted...I'm not sure if that happens when it's "kicked" by some other event, e.g. an incoming message, to sync.
    Extremely annoying.

  • Suddenly can no longer receive Yahoo IMAP in Mail

I have suddenly become unable to receive Yahoo IMAP mail in my Mail client in Yosemite on my MacBook Pro (13"  Early 2011).
I can send mail, but not receive it. I suspect a problem on the Apple/OS X side, because my iOS devices are still receiving Yahoo IMAP mail.
I tried deleting and re-adding my Yahoo account. Now, not only can't I receive mail, I can't see any mail in my Inbox! Yet, I can see all my Yahoo folders and their contents while using Mail.

    Hello Paul,
Thank you for participating in the Apple Support Communities.
It does seem like you're encountering an issue with email that's isolated to your Yahoo IMAP account in Mac OS X.
For a situation like this, start with the troubleshooting tips in the section of this article called "Mail Connection Doctor shows one or more red dots in the account Status column:"
OS X Mail: Troubleshooting sending and receiving email messages
This article contains a variety of steps that can help resolve an issue like the one you're seeing.
    All the best,

  • Yahoo IMAP randomly deleting old messages on Iphone

I have started switching over to Yahoo IMAP Mail to make organizing emails easier since I hardly use my desktop to check emails anymore. The problem I have begun running into is that I will save my messages to folders. When I check on my older emails (not necessarily ones in folders), I will briefly see the message, but my Iphone is downloading the current list. Once the Iphone has the updated email list, it deletes some of the messages I had saved. I know the messages were there because I can see them briefly before they get "updated."
I have checked the account online and found them to be forever deleted there as well. There is no way to recover these emails that have been randomly lost. I have changed my account info to the point where there should no absolutely no reason whatsoever for any email to be deleted, yet this occurs occassionally without any rhyme or reason. I have set the "view email" option to the max (200 msgs I believe.)
The IMAP would be perfect (I can get over not having my email push everytime,) except that some important emails get deleted randomly. I have not seen any post on this so far, does anyone else have this problem?

    HI,
From within the app it is not possible in the Beta
However using the Finder as the "Front" app use the Go Menu and Hold the ALT key and then chose th Library.
In the Library go to the Messages folder and delete chat.db  - just drag it to the Trash

  • Problem with Yahoo IMAP and Mail...

I'm having an issue with my Yahoo IMAP setup and mail on my desktop:
I have set up my yahoo email account with IMAP on both my iphone 4 and with mail on macbook pro.  It has worked fine, all my folders are synced up on both devices and everything runs well except for one small problem.  When I read an email on my Iphone, the mail program on my macbook pro never knows.  Every day I come back to my computer, and all of my yahoo emails remain as "new" and "unread" even though I had checked all of them on my iphone.  Its very weird because the opposite is not true - in other words - if I check a Yahoo email on my macbook pro, then my Iphone recognizes it and will show it is "read" as soon as I read it on macbook pro.
I also have an IMAP work email hosted by gator and a gmail account and I do not have this problem, its only on my yahoo account.  I have tried the following settings:
    Incoming server - imap.mail.yahoo.com
    Outgoing server - smtp.mail.yahoo.com
    Incoming server - apple.imap.mail.yahoo.com
    Outgoing server - smtp.apple.mail.yahoo.com
I have set everything to ssl with ports 465 and 993.  Still keep getting this same problem that my macbook pro does not recognize when emails have been read on my iphone (for only the yahoo account).
Anybody else having this problem or have any suggestions on how to fix??

    http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/mobile/comms/mail/imap-01.html
To set up IMAP on your mobile device please use these settings:
    Incoming Server - imap.mail.yahoo.com
    Outgoing Server - smtp.mail.yahoo.com
Incoming Port - 993 (requires SSL)
    Outgoing Port - 465 (requires SSL/TLS)
Username: full email address (for example, [email protected] or [email protected])
Password: the password you login to Yahoo! with.
If you are having trouble setting up IMAP on your mobile device we recommend reviewing your phones instruction manual or contacting your mobile provider for support.

You can use the following information to configure IMAP with many mail clients. If you encounter difficulties, we suggest contacting your mail client's customer support department for further instructions -- we're unable to provide assistance with configuring mail clients not listed here.
Incoming Mail (IMAP) Server - requires SSL:     imap.gmail.com
    Use SSL: Yes
    Port: 993
Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server - requires TLS:     smtp.gmail.com (use authentication)
    Use Authentication: Yes
Use STARTTLS: Yes (some clients call this SSL)
    Port: 465 or 587
Account Name:     your full email address (including @gmail.com) Google Apps users, please enter username@your_domain.com
Email Address:     your full Gmail email address ([email protected]) Google Apps users, please enter username@your_domain.com
    Password:     your Gmail password
Please note that if your client does not support SMTP3 authentication, you won't be able to send mail through your client using your Gmail address.
Also, if you're having trouble sending mail but you've confirmed that encryption is active for SMTP in your mail client, try to configure your SMTP server on a different port: 465 or 587.

SMTP "offline" indicated under Mail/Preferences/Accounts for Yahoo IMAP, when adding Yahoo IMAP settings in Mail. Ports are correct as is password. Suggestions as to the problem? Latest OS with patches...
I can log into Yahoo via URL, so Mail should work as well.

Nope, no correlation between them (other than password)

  • Yahoo IMAP via Mail.app

Has anyone got this to work, I read on this forum that the yahoo imap server used by the iPhone is imap.apple.mail.yahoo.com, just wondered if anyone knew the port and if anyone had been able to get mail.app talking to the yahoo IMAP server. Would be great to have the mac and iPhone alking to the same IMAP server.
    Thanks in advance.
    Cheers
    Jonathan

There is an option in the 'Advanced' section of the account setup to delete the messages from the server after a specified period rather than immediately on download; you could leave them for a week or whatever, then they will still be there when the iPhone accesses them.

  • Lion Mail Yahoo IMAP Sync Inconsistent

Observed behavior: Mail is syncing with Yahoo IMAP every five minutes, but when I delete or mark messages as read from the Yahoo website, iPhone or any other device, the Mail app will not reflect these changes even after the auto or manul sync. In order to force Mail to sync accurately, I have to take the account offline and then switch it back online. Then, Mail syncs correctly.
If I force the re-sync WITHOUT first taking the account offline, the sync is not accurate. Even if new messages appear in the mailbox, the other deleted and marked-read messages are not accurately reflected in the sync. Again, the only way to make it accurate is to take offline and bring back online. Of course, if I restart Mail, this also resolves the issue. Restarting Mail is the same thing as far as the Yahoo IMAP server is concerned.
This problem is easily reproducible. I have tried a number of remedies.
    1. I deleted the original Yahoo IMAP account and added a new Yahoo IMAP account with a new name multiple times. No change.
    2. I restarted my Mac to see if this helps. Other than the temporary effect of restarting Mail, this does not change a thing.
    3. I have looked on the Yahoo site, and well... Here I am.
    4. I also looked on Gmail site, almost more helpful.
    5. Finally, I looked on the Apple Support Communities but cannot find an answer.
So, let's see if there are others having the same issue and maybe there is a solution somewhere.
    Thank you.

  • AT&T Yahoo e-mail issues on iPhone: POP vs. IMAP

So, I'm having the same two problems mentioned in other threads here regarding Yahoo! mail and iPhone, but I've got a third issue/observation, and I'm wondering if it's a partial cause of the problem.
First, a recap: Yahoo! mail (or, in my case, AT&T Yahoo! mail, which is the fully featured version that comes with my DSL account) does not push e-mails as it should and may randomly delete e-mail (though I'm not positive that's happened to me...)
Now, the new wrinkle: My e-mail at home is set up to use Yahoo's POP3 servers. I use Eudora rather than Mail.app, so I didn't synch the iPhone to the account (not possible): Instead, I created a new account on the iPhone and entered the relevant information. Once I had tapped Y! Mail, there was no option to choose between POP3 and IMAP, and now my phone thinks it's accessing an IMAP account, which it is not.
Could this be the source of the problem?

That doesn't help, really. I understand the difference between POP and IMAP, and I've chosen to use POP. The question is: What are the consequences of the fact that the iPhone forces me to use IMAP to access an account that both my desktop computer and my ISP believe to be a POP account?
Note, moreover, that the first link you provided indicates that the server to use with an account like mine is "pop.sbcglobal.yahoo.com," so Apple too believes that it is a POP account. (That's not actually true: it should be pop.att.yahoo.com; pop.sbcglobal... is an outdated name, but that's not important right now. Or is it?)
But the iPhone automatically treats any e-mail account set up as a Y! Mail account as IMAP, and I can see no option to change that anywhere in Settings, once you've specified a Y! Mail account. Is the fix simply to set up a new account, choose "Other" rather than "Y! Mail," and configure it properly?

  • Yahoo! Mail Plus + IMAP + built-in e-mail client, ...

    Hello,
I just got my new Nokia E71 and tried to set up the built-in e-mail client using Yahoo! Mail Plus (yes, I do pay for it and pop3 works on any device). The built-in e-mail setup program sets up some imap addresses for incoming and outgoing mail. I provided my Yahoo! Mail username with and without "@yahoo.com" and the correct password, but it always pops up the username/password dialog as the input was wrong.
Has anyone managed to use Yahoo! & imap on his/her Nokia phone?
     Thanks,
    parhuzamos
ps. I know email.nokia.com, but it allows my to sync max 10 folders and that is not enough for me.

I use Yahoo public. Same settings as yours. No problem updating mailbox nor sending with WLAN (wifi) or GPRS.
I did encounter your same problem once or twice when my phone was new and I was just setting it up. I just deleted the mailbox and started over. There aren't a lot of settings for email accounts you can tinker with. The only other setting I could think of is the email key setting. Mine's set to default since I have 3 accounts on my phone.
Hope that helps in some way.

  • Apple Mail won't retrieve new mail from Yahoo IMAP

I've been using Apple Mail with my Yahoo/Rogers account via IMAP for months with no problems.
Starting a few weeks ago, new mail in the Yahoo Inbox does not get delivered to Apple Mail.
I know there's lots of new mail - I logged into mail.yahoo.com with Safari, and see lots of unread messages in the inbox.
It's not a password problem.  The Connection Doctor shows 'green':  access to both the IMAP and SMTP servers is successful.
I have many other IMAP folders configured, and they all sync fine between Yahoo and the Mac.
Apple Mail is configured to use imap.mail.yahoo.com, port 993 with SSL.
    I've tried:
    - rebooting the iMac.
    - quitting/restarting Apple Mail
    - taking account offline, then back on-line.
    - Ctrl-clicking on the Inbox and forcing it to Synchronize "Yahoo Mail".
    - calling Apple. I spent an hour on the phone with a pleasant tech there. He concluded it's a Yahoo problem.
I found one thing that fixed it temporarily: last week I deleted my e-mail account from Apple Mail. Of course, this deleted all my mailboxes in Apple Mail. Years of messages vanished.  Then I quit Mail, restarted it, and configured it anew with my Yahoo account credentials.  Mail then proceeded to log on to the Yahoo server and sync everything over IMAP. It took quite a while (over an hour), but eventually everything in my Inbox, Sent folder, and a couple dozen folders ('mailboxes') of saved messages reappeared. Including all the unread mail that had been waiting on the Yahoo mail server.
That was a week ago, and my Apple Mail inbox had receiving new e-mail with no problems until two days ago. Once again, new incoming messages are not getting synced. This 'fix' (delete all messages and resync from scratch) is not a practical solution.
    Any ideas?
(iMac has 10.8.5. Mail is 6.6)

    @riiich,
As I last reported, I temporarily 'fixed' it by deleting the account from Apple Mail and creating it again. Thanks to IMAP, Mail then synced all the mail folders (took a couple of hours - I have a lot of mail folders), and then it was working again.  For a few days.  Then the problem returned - new mail arriving in my Yahoo Inbox would not sync to the Inbox in Apple Mail.
I spent hours trying to resolve it. Changed password. Rebuilt Mail's index. Ran Disk Utility on my hard drive. Etc. Etc. I have a lot of server-side folders (>30), and thought that maybe Apple+Yahoo were screwing up due the large number of folders (a.k.a. mailboxes) to sync.  So I migrated a lot of the folders off the server (setting up new mailboxes On The Mac) in which to file my messages.  That didn't help. Meanwhile, I started using Yahoo's webmail interface so I could get my new mail.  Then one morning (perhaps a week later), the inbox spontaneously started syncing again. I had done nothing the day before - it just started working overnight.
Based on this experience, I concluded that the F***-up is entirely on the Yahoo side and has nothing to do with my Mac nor Apple's software. My ultimate fix has been to abandon Yahoo Mail.  Prior to Christmas, I moved my mail account to another service provider who provides IMAP. Then configured my Yahoo account to forward all incoming mail to the new server (which has a new e-mail address). Since doing so, I've had zero problems. All messages sent to my old Yahoo address get immediately forwarded to the new mail server, which has been syncing to Apple Mail with no problems at all.

  • How do I get imap mail yahoo to accept my password?

How do I get imap.mail.yahoo to accept my password?

This is from diannefromohio to Glenn Leblanc:
How do I find the settings.  I did clear the cache trying to follow a help yahoo page to get my password to work, but don't know what clearing the cache means.
I went to the Apple Support page and changed my imap password for apple mail. That password doesn't work for Apple Mail.  I have a different password I use for Yahoo mail through Safari and that is where I am getting mail right now. My macbook pro is hooked up to a Seagate hd. Is there a way to find an earlier backup and reset my computer to a backup from March? This problem happened April 10th. Don't just answer "yes". I won't know what to do. I need step by step help.

  • Mail notifications for IMAP folders in Yahoo! Mail

    Hello,
I don't get a notifications when I receive new email in any of my folders in Yahoo! Mail. I use IMAP configuration. I see the folders when I browse for them in the Mail, but I don't get notification when I receive new mail there.
Is it possible to fix that?
    Thanks.

The standard mal app on the iPhone does not support this right now (that I know of).  If you are using an Exchange server connection, you can select which mailbox to push notifications for in yor mail settings.  Other than that, I suppose you could use a 3rd party service like PushMail.  That service alows you to "forward" emails to them and they wll send you push notifications based on the incoming email.  Assuming your mail server is sufficiently advanced, you could forward an excerpt of incoming messages you autmatically filter to folders to such a service and get push notifications based on that.
