Yahoo IMAP set up

I know this is being discussed in various forms throughout the Forum, but I can't find an answer to the most basic question of all: How do i set up my Yahoo! accounts with IMAP instead of POP? I have two accounts, a yahoo.com account and a small business account with myowndomain.com. I cannot find any IMAP option either through Yahoo's settings or through my iPhone's settings. Anyone know the basics of setting this up?

stubbeelo,
If you use the Y!Mail preconfigured option it will use IMAP.
If you configure it manually it will use POP3.
Hope this helps,
Nathan C.

  • Sent items on yahoo Imap not synchronising with sent items on yahoo mail outlook 2011

I had a problem where the my yahoo imap  which I set up with Outlook 2011 was not synchronizing with Yahoo from the web.
I found the solution today by switching from Sent items( Server) to Sent( Server).
    1. Go to tools
    2. Accounts
    3.Advance options
    4. Folders
    5. Then you will see sent. Drop down the window and you will see what I have shown in the screen shot below.
It worked for me and now all my emails are synchronising very well.

the last sentence should read...."this folder do however only have the sent emails that was sent from my imac, and not the emails that was sent from my ipad".
I want all my sent items on all my devices the same, in other words the should come from the server and not the specific device I'm using

  • Problem with Yahoo IMAP and Mail...

I'm having an issue with my Yahoo IMAP setup and mail on my desktop:
I have set up my yahoo email account with IMAP on both my iphone 4 and with mail on macbook pro.  It has worked fine, all my folders are synced up on both devices and everything runs well except for one small problem.  When I read an email on my Iphone, the mail program on my macbook pro never knows.  Every day I come back to my computer, and all of my yahoo emails remain as "new" and "unread" even though I had checked all of them on my iphone.  Its very weird because the opposite is not true - in other words - if I check a Yahoo email on my macbook pro, then my Iphone recognizes it and will show it is "read" as soon as I read it on macbook pro.
I also have an IMAP work email hosted by gator and a gmail account and I do not have this problem, its only on my yahoo account.  I have tried the following settings:
    Incoming server - imap.mail.yahoo.com
    Outgoing server - smtp.mail.yahoo.com
    Incoming server - apple.imap.mail.yahoo.com
    Outgoing server - smtp.apple.mail.yahoo.com
I have set everything to ssl with ports 465 and 993.  Still keep getting this same problem that my macbook pro does not recognize when emails have been read on my iphone (for only the yahoo account).
Anybody else having this problem or have any suggestions on how to fix??

To set up IMAP on your mobile device please use these settings:
    Incoming Server - imap.mail.yahoo.com
    Outgoing Server - smtp.mail.yahoo.com
Incoming Port - 993 (requires SSL)
    Outgoing Port - 465 (requires SSL/TLS)
Username: full email address (for example, [email protected] or [email protected])
Password: the password you login to Yahoo! with.
If you are having trouble setting up IMAP on your mobile device we recommend reviewing your phones instruction manual or contacting your mobile provider for support.

You can use the following information to configure IMAP with many mail clients. If you encounter difficulties, we suggest contacting your mail client's customer support department for further instructions -- we're unable to provide assistance with configuring mail clients not listed here.
Incoming Mail (IMAP) Server - requires SSL:     imap.gmail.com
    Use SSL: Yes
    Port: 993
Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server - requires TLS:     smtp.gmail.com (use authentication)
    Use Authentication: Yes
Use STARTTLS: Yes (some clients call this SSL)
    Port: 465 or 587
Account Name:     your full email address (including @gmail.com) Google Apps users, please enter username@your_domain.com
Email Address:     your full Gmail email address ([email protected]) Google Apps users, please enter username@your_domain.com
    Password:     your Gmail password
Please note that if your client does not support SMTP3 authentication, you won't be able to send mail through your client using your Gmail address.
Also, if you're having trouble sending mail but you've confirmed that encryption is active for SMTP in your mail client, try to configure your SMTP server on a different port: 465 or 587.

  • How to configure Yahoo IMAP with ATT.Yahoo service

I'm hearing about using Yahoo IMAP push server, but can find no such option about configuring my current ATT.Yahoo service for anything but POP/SMTP. Where should I be looking? Thanks

I could find this info nowhere so hopefully this will help someone with the same problem I was having.
In case anyone with an ATT.YAHOO account formerly SBC, or Pacbell, etc. You have to manually set up an IMAP account. So if your e-mail address is "[email protected]", you would Add an account, choose Yahoo Y! Mail and enter your [email protected] address and your ATT.YAHOO POP password. It will confirm the account and you will now have IMAP Push e-mail on your ATT account. But your ATT.Yahoo account (as far as I can tell) must remain a standard POP account on OS X Mail on your Mac. So you don't want to synch your iPhone ATT.Yahoo Mail accounts.

  • Unable to connect on email yahoo Imap?

All passwords are correct, and I have been into Apple today, and whilst it seemed to pick up emails in the shop.  Once home it hasn't.
We deleted the btinternet.com email in Apple serveral times, and Added account, eventully it worked...strange, but it did work.
But once at home it didn't!
I have Ipad and iphone and can pick up emails on these, but these are both POP accounts.
Everytime I add my email account, it becomes Yahoo Imap....and think this is what is causing the problem.
I can't even set up the account to a POP, because everytime I start the "add account "it automically becomes an Imap account on  my Macbook Pro.
    (all software is upto date)
Please can someone give me some advice and help.
Would adding apple.imap.yahoo.com  help on the outgoing and incoming server?
thanks in anticaption, that someone can help.

Re: Yahoo IMAP server - Rejected Password
Apr 16, 2013 1:49 AM (in response to Renesisdriver)
For BT users I think I have a workaround (that may work for all clients). Not my ideas but a combination of suggestions given by other users.
A combination of the following seems to have worked for me.
Go to "Spotlight" on your Mac, top right corner. Type "keychain access". When the pop up screen appears, make sure in the left column you have both the following tabs selected. "Login" & "passwords". From there look through the list in the columns you have and delete EVERY mention of "yahoo" i.e. "smpt.mail.yahoo.com". Basically, if you see a line with Yahoo in it, then get rid of it.
Go to your Yahoo email account on your browser, before you login deselect the tick boxthat asks you if you want to stay signed in. After logging in, log out.
Go to "Mail" on your Mac and open up the prefernce pane. Go to accounts and channge the servers for your BT Yahoo email accounts to the following.
    Use:
    Incoming Server - apple.imap.mail.yahoo.com
    Outgoing Server - apple.smtp.mail.yahoo.com
    4. Restart "Mail". On some of my yahoo email accounts this worked instantaneously for me. On others it took around 5 minutes for the account to start working again. 12 hours in and the problem seems to be gone.
    Good Luck to all.
    this worked for me, thank-you

  • Yahoo IMAP randomly deleting old messages on Iphone

I have started switching over to Yahoo IMAP Mail to make organizing emails easier since I hardly use my desktop to check emails anymore. The problem I have begun running into is that I will save my messages to folders. When I check on my older emails (not necessarily ones in folders), I will briefly see the message, but my Iphone is downloading the current list. Once the Iphone has the updated email list, it deletes some of the messages I had saved. I know the messages were there because I can see them briefly before they get "updated."
I have checked the account online and found them to be forever deleted there as well. There is no way to recover these emails that have been randomly lost. I have changed my account info to the point where there should no absolutely no reason whatsoever for any email to be deleted, yet this occurs occassionally without any rhyme or reason. I have set the "view email" option to the max (200 msgs I believe.)
The IMAP would be perfect (I can get over not having my email push everytime,) except that some important emails get deleted randomly. I have not seen any post on this so far, does anyone else have this problem?

    HI,
From within the app it is not possible in the Beta
However using the Finder as the "Front" app use the Go Menu and Hold the ALT key and then chose th Library.
In the Library go to the Messages folder and delete chat.db  - just drag it to the Trash

I will address your second question.
First, make sure your iPhone and iPad have absolutely identical Apple IDs.  If they do, use that Apple ID in Settings > iCloud on your iPhone to select the "Notes" option.  Lo and behold, all your iCloud notes should appear on your iPhone.

  • Yahoo IMAP support ... sneaky!

I found several references to IMAP support by Yahoo about a year ago (imap.next.mail.yahoo.com, imap.mail.yahoo.com) that worked for a while and then stopped, presumably because of the resources required to support that protocol on top of pop. Then, with their offer of IMAP access to even free Yahoo acounts because of Apple, I read somewhere the new server was imap.apple.mail.yahoo.com. Problem is, it only works IF you use the Yahoo configuration option in Mail settings. If you use a regular IMAP configuration option, it does not work. (Why would I want to use Other? Because I dont want the @yahoo.com as the reply-to address).
So, it seems that behind the scenes, the iPhone is configuring to the correct (and unknown to us) Yahoo IMAP server OR it is embedding some sort of prefix/suffix to our IDs that authorize it to log on to the Yahoo IMAP server ONLY if you use the iPhone configuration tool. I am speculating. Any thoughts?

Someone who has an iPhone should connect it to a WiFi network on which is a computer running an Ethernet Packet sniffer, and then capture a connection from the iPhone to Yahoo mail.
For ordinary POP3 and SMTP access Yahoo use SSL versions, the IMAP SSL port is normally 993 but they could be using a non-standard port. They could also be doing something strange to the authentication, e.g. using MD5 instead of just password or something else like adding additional text to the password e.g. it sends apple.password instead of password, again a packet sniffer like Ethereal might reveal this.
Unfortunately the iPhone is not yet available in the UK so I cannot do this testing myself.
Google should wake up and add push IMAP support themselves, fancy letting Yahoo grab all the glory.

SMTP "offline" indicated under Mail/Preferences/Accounts for Yahoo IMAP, when adding Yahoo IMAP settings in Mail. Ports are correct as is password. Suggestions as to the problem? Latest OS with patches...
I can log into Yahoo via URL, so Mail should work as well.

Nope, no correlation between them (other than password)

  • Yahoo IMAP via Mail.app

Has anyone got this to work, I read on this forum that the yahoo imap server used by the iPhone is imap.apple.mail.yahoo.com, just wondered if anyone knew the port and if anyone had been able to get mail.app talking to the yahoo IMAP server. Would be great to have the mac and iPhone alking to the same IMAP server.
    Thanks in advance.
    Cheers
    Jonathan

There is an option in the 'Advanced' section of the account setup to delete the messages from the server after a specified period rather than immediately on download; you could leave them for a week or whatever, then they will still be there when the iPhone accesses them.

  • Yahoo imap mail

I have been successfully using Yahoo imap mail within Mac Mail for years, but now it won't work.  What's changed?  How can I use Yahoo mail in my mail program??

    Hello Ahji,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I understand that your Yahoo! email is not working as expected in Mail on your Mac. To begin troubleshooting, I would suggest reading over and working through the suggested steps in the attached article.

  • Lion Mail Yahoo IMAP Sync Inconsistent

Observed behavior: Mail is syncing with Yahoo IMAP every five minutes, but when I delete or mark messages as read from the Yahoo website, iPhone or any other device, the Mail app will not reflect these changes even after the auto or manul sync. In order to force Mail to sync accurately, I have to take the account offline and then switch it back online. Then, Mail syncs correctly.
If I force the re-sync WITHOUT first taking the account offline, the sync is not accurate. Even if new messages appear in the mailbox, the other deleted and marked-read messages are not accurately reflected in the sync. Again, the only way to make it accurate is to take offline and bring back online. Of course, if I restart Mail, this also resolves the issue. Restarting Mail is the same thing as far as the Yahoo IMAP server is concerned.
This problem is easily reproducible. I have tried a number of remedies.
    1. I deleted the original Yahoo IMAP account and added a new Yahoo IMAP account with a new name multiple times. No change.
    2. I restarted my Mac to see if this helps. Other than the temporary effect of restarting Mail, this does not change a thing.
    3. I have looked on the Yahoo site, and well... Here I am.
    4. I also looked on Gmail site, almost more helpful.
    5. Finally, I looked on the Apple Support Communities but cannot find an answer.
So, let's see if there are others having the same issue and maybe there is a solution somewhere.
    Thank you.

This is definitely not Yahoo-specific, nor is it new.  Definitely seems to be a bug in Mail.app.  This has been happening at least since 10.5 (am now on 10.8.2), and I have a GoDaddy hosted IMAP account.
Same symptoms...I delete emails on my Mac in Mail.app.  I've gotten into the habit of forcing a manual sync.  The emails disappear from the Mac, but several minutes or sometimes many minutes later, if I look on my iPhone or iPad, the messages have not been deleted.  If I subsequently go look on my Mac, or at the server through a webmail browser - they're back.
However, if I delete the emails from my iPhone or iPad - they really do get deleted.
As stated up above - quitting and reopening Mail.app can force a real sync that gets things going back in sync...it seems like maybe Mail.app somehow forgets to actually sync...so when this starts happening - i.e. I notice deleted emails still appear on my iPad - if I quit mail and reopen it, it also shows the previously deleted email.  So the symptoms seem like there is a "cache" of actions (deletes) in Mail.app that is not getting processed to the server.  When you quit, this list seems to get flushed and whatever is causing Mail.app not to sync to the server gets remedied and on restart, the not-deleted emails show up because Mail.app now syncs with the server.  Occasionally it seems Mail.app somehow can come out of this without being restarted...I'm not sure if that happens when it's "kicked" by some other event, e.g. an incoming message, to sync.
    Extremely annoying.

  • Yahoo IMAP and OS 10.5 mail setup

Has anyone figured out how to make Mail in OS 10.5 work with Yahoo IMAP mail? If so, any help would be appreciated.

Yahoo dropped the ball on this one, as did Apple. Moving to Mobile me so we'll see if that works.

  • Lion Mac Mail Yahoo IMAP issues

Each time I lauch Mac Mail on my Mac (running OS X 10.7.4), it downloads my entire inbox (thousands of messages) from the Yahoo IMAP mail server. Also, when sending emails, Mac Mail does not always create a copy on the Yahoo mail server. Sometime the copy is there and sometime it isn't.
    Anyone else having this issue?

  • Suddenly can no longer receive Yahoo IMAP in Mail

I have suddenly become unable to receive Yahoo IMAP mail in my Mail client in Yosemite on my MacBook Pro (13"  Early 2011).
I can send mail, but not receive it. I suspect a problem on the Apple/OS X side, because my iOS devices are still receiving Yahoo IMAP mail.
I tried deleting and re-adding my Yahoo account. Now, not only can't I receive mail, I can't see any mail in my Inbox! Yet, I can see all my Yahoo folders and their contents while using Mail.

    Hello Paul,
Thank you for participating in the Apple Support Communities.
It does seem like you're encountering an issue with email that's isolated to your Yahoo IMAP account in Mac OS X.
For a situation like this, start with the troubleshooting tips in the section of this article called "Mail Connection Doctor shows one or more red dots in the account Status column:"
OS X Mail: Troubleshooting sending and receiving email messages
This article contains a variety of steps that can help resolve an issue like the one you're seeing.
