Yahoo Jabber Gateway?

Hi there Chatterers...
Can anyone shed some light on this please?
When I try to chat to a mate who is on Yahoo Messenger I get the little 'think bubble' come up to say he is typing. But when he sends the message it doesn't arrive!
I know the Gateway is working fine 'cos when I use Psi i tworks fine...
Troubled,
Pete.

Pete, I have a number of Yahoo buddies. They are all on Windows machines as well (but thats another issue). Anyway, I use jabber.org.au. I have an account with them, and they have both MSN and Yahoo transports available.
I do not get the MSN icons to come through, but it has been very stable lately. Just note that when you register with the Yahoo transport it does not automatically find your Yahoo contacts and you have to add them yourself (use Psi). At least that was the case when I set mine up. They also have a very good "how to" on their site about using Jabber through ichat.

  • Jabber Gateway

    Hi All,
Sorry, Jabber/CUPC is not my specialty so please pardon any ignorance here.
Here is what my users would like, the ability to use Jabber for i-phone on company supplied i-phones. They don't necessarily want to federate, just have internal users be able to use jabber. There is resistance to using AnyConnect at the moment and I was asked to see if there were another way.
So, I believe we could add a DNS SRV record (e.g. jabber.comanyABC.com) and NAT it to our internal CUPS server (version 8.5). So I supplied the required ports (according to http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/jabber/iPhone/8.6/JABI_BK_J29330BB_00_jabber-for-iphone-admin-guide_chapter_010.html#topic_8B2E44B8B4A24DE1935408F2E1FC12BC), however they say LDAP port exposure is a show stopper.
Any guidance around this? Is there some sort of Jabber gateway that could sit in the DMZ (sort of like CUBE) or something?
    Thanks,
    Josh

Do not expose the IM&P cluster (except for XMPP Inter-Domain Federation) or CUCM to the Internet; neither product is intended to be exposed to untrusted networks. As you discovered, the current Jabber 9.0 apps for iOS consume a whole bunch of ports. Several of these - esspecially the SIP softphone - don't mix well with NAT to say nothing of the missing security mechanisms to run without a VPN connection.
In the 9.0 product, you need AnyConnect. I cannot discuss product roadmaps here; however, I suggest you talk to your Cisco AM/SE about your options now and in the future.

  • Trying to add a yahoo IM buddy to ichat (via jabber)

I've done the following steps to try to set up my ichat accounts so that I can chat with a buddy who is using yahoo IM. First, I registered for a jabber account at jabber.au and authorized the account. Next, I registered for a yahoo IM account and authorized it. I then logged into my jabber account and registered for a yahoo transport. Finally, I added my buddy to my Jabber List in iChat using the following format: username.yahoo.jabber.au.
So far this has not worked and I'm not sure what's wrong. Have added the yahooIM buddy correctly?
Is there a better way to chat with people using yahoo IM? Should I just download yahoo's IM client software?
I've read that there's no audio available using yahoos IM for Mac users. Is this true? If so, is there a better option?
Sorry for the barrage of questions.

    HI MikFish!
    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
It appears as if you have set-up everything correctly. Has your Yahoo buddy received and approved your buddy request? He/she may also be invisable, that is why you may not be able to see them.
I haven't had the best of luck with Jabber transports, they arnt' very reliable.
Is there a better option? I personally use iChat AV for AIM and AdiumX for Yahoo, MSN, and other chat protocols. You can find Adium here: http://www.adiumx.com/
I've used the Yahoo chat client, but after reviewing Adium, I'm sure you'll agree it's a better client.
(P.S. There is a "Metal" version of Adium that makes it look just like iChat, you can find it here: http://homepage.mac.com/andrewnesbitt/MetalAdiumX/

  • Jabber and AIM/.Mac contacts in ONE window

I would like to have a single iChat window that combines the Jabber and AIM/.Mac buddies. That way I can log on to AIM directly from iChat (and use video/audio) and also be able to log on to google chat MSN via jabber gateways. I hate having two different windows for each buddy list.
I there a way of doing this with Leopard's iChat?

    Hi,
    I use several including GoogleTalk.
It is not about whether the server can do Audio or Video as Most Jabber Servers can not
iChat invokes it's A/V protocols whichever Buddy list it is in which do not use the same ports as any of the Buddy List's logins.
The A/V side is independent of the Text based side.
I have found that the Green icons show up.
This seems independent of whether the Jabber Server supports it.

  • WRT54GX-2 and Yahoo DSL.

I have searched on this forum regarding my problem. but I can't find anything that seems to relate to my problem. I have a WRT54GX-2 SRX router I am trying to connect to a yahoo dsl gateway. If I leave the device disconnected from the modem, I can connect to the router and access configuration. However, when I connect it to the modem, I can connect to it. But I have no connection to anything, I don't have local network, or even the ability to access 192.168.1.1. I'm not sure why connecting it to a yahoo dsl gateway would mess with the router in such a way... I have been using the router on the go for awhile now, and haven't had any problems with it untill today. Since I can't see a reason why it would be doing this, I'm clueless where to go to fix this problem.

Problem solved... I was using a Motorola DSL modem. My problem didn't lie in my router. But the Modem apparantly also routes internet. Always a good idea to make sure you aren't creating two of the same IP spectrum. I didn't catch this untill I furthur investigated the modem when post 2 asked me what model of modem it is.

  • IChat + MSN Messenger Contacts + iSight = Video Conferencing

I have recently converted my windows-based laptop to a MacBook. Thus, I am very new to this new system. I need some assistance or guidance as I am unsure of how I can:
    1) use iChat or equivalent with video conferencing features (because MSN Messenger for Mac does not have important feature) to video conference with my contacts in MSN Messenger for Windows?
    2) still be able to chat with my contacts in MSN Messenger for Windows, without them installing iChat or equivalent?
    3) use the built-in iSight to video conference with them?
    4) configure iChat or equivalent to chat with my contacts if all of the above are possible?
    Much appreciated.
    MacBook   Mac OS X (10.4.9)
    MacBook   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

    1) If video conferencing is so important you could use skype or a jabber client that supports both video and audio. Your friends have to install skype or a jabber client too though.
    2) With a jabber account and iChat you can chat with your buddies on msn, yahoo, aim google-talk, ICQ etc. This is done through Jabber-gateways or transports. JabberLive! ( http://jabberlive.org ) has many gateways you can register with.
    3) Possible through skype or a jabber client that supports both video and audio.
    4) If you want to chat with your buddies using iChat you definitely have to get a jabber account. ( I can recommend http://jabberlive.org)

  • How do I add a buddy in imessage, how does video chat work?

We upgraded to Mt. Lion when it first came out, and generally have found it all very good.  However, one of the features that we used frequently was ichat.  It was simple to setup and easy to use (we would video chat with my in-laws so they could see the grand kids).
Since upgrading, it has become much more unclear how to do this.  iChat is gone, and has been replaced with iMessage.  Now there are AIM accounts, Bounjour, Google Talk, Yahoo, jabber, etc.  I get that the idea was to build a comprehensive iMessage client, but we just want to understand what we could do before in iChat.
When I go into help for iMessage, there is a link for video chatting.  Here's what it says:
If you start a video chat with someone using iMessage, you start a video call in FaceTime, which is a separate app. For information about FaceTime video calls, see the following:
    FaceTime Help
If you start a video chat with someone using AIM (including me.com and Mac.com), Jabber, Google Talk, or Bonjour, you’ll video chat in Messages.
***?  I realize that all of the documentation is trying to describe all of the different ways that things can work, but I need to call my father-in-law and tell him very simply what he needs to set up on his end, what I need to set up on my end, and how we connect.
When I attempt to Add a buddy in iMessage, all of the item are greyed out except Send File ...
Is there an easy step-by-step guy for this?
    Thanks!

You can use any which you prefer...
Be it his phone number (international format) or his appleid email or any other email he added to the iMessage settings...
But it always works on number and appleid for iPhones (unless the person disabled one of them himself)...

  • IMessages not functioning on OS X Mountain Lion's Messages

I just noticed that I am unable to send or receive iMessages on the Messages app on OS X Mountain Lion.
I checked the accounts, and the only two active are my facebook chat (which I regularly use) and Google talk. I do not see an iMessage account. When I try to add an account, the types are Yahoo, Jabber, AIM, and Google Talk. It doesn't seem any of these fits.
I am signed in to my Apple ID on my Mac and iCloud has everything enabled. What is the issue?

    Hi Plasma,
It sounds like you may be looking at the Mail, Contacts & Calendars option under System Preferences. You need to set the iMessage account information up in the Messages app. Open the app, then select Preferences from there:

  • Synchronous and asynchronous communication

    Hi all
i am very new to jms and java. I have the task of developing an application for communication for a global company. The application must support most if not all of the following features:
    -synchronous messages
    -Asynchronous ('offline') messages
    -Authentication/identification
-Saving a log of all conversations
    -Conference rooms
    -Secure (encrypted) communication
-User information database (e.g. postal addresses, email addresses, -pictures, etc)
    -Sophisticated GUI
    -Resilience to network breakdown
-Multimedia messages (styled text, pictures, file attachments)
    -Shared document editing
    -Shared whiteboard facility
what can I use to develop this application...will JMS be able to do this??
    thank you

This appears to be more like a user coomunication application. I would look for the architecture of commonly available instant messaging applications, such as MSN, Yahoo, Jabber.
I would think of JMS to be used for transmitting business messages, like stock quotes, etc. Creating a PTP connection or a Topic in a pub-susb message would be an over-kill for such a usage scenario.

  • Setting/viewing icon picture per account

I decided to give the new Lion version of iChat a try again (I've been using Adium).
I've got about 6 different accounts (AIM, Yahoo, Jabber) I use, and it's important for me to separate my business avatar/icon (the company logo) from my personal one (my face).  I'm unclear if iChat maintains that separation, and if I change my user icon in iChat, what is an easy way to verify what it picks for each account?

    Hi,
I do not have Lion yet.
From what I have read in other threads you get a combined Buddy List and no obvious way to separate them out again.
(I would check the General section of iChat Preferences as this is where Snow Leopard iChat 5 allowed the setting of one Status/Buddy Pic per account)
I would also bring each Buddy List to the Front in turn and see if the Setting for the Buddy pic can be changed individually.
EDIT.Tested with a Buddy  (Neither palce above works)
iChat 5 does not allow separate Buddy pics either
Status Messages seem to be different in iChat 5 (from iChat 4)

  • IMessage icon menu bar

While iMessage is not running its icon is still shown in the menu bar. How can I remove it?

    Hi Tuttle,
Thanks.  I was unware of that change.
    Just tried it.
Any Buddy List Account (AIM, Yahoo, Jabber (Google and Facebook included) plus Bonjour) will activate that second section of the General Preferences for Messages 8.
    EDIT
    Notes
Re-enabling several Accounts (Up to 10) at once does not always make the Buddy Lists appear if you are using them.
Swapping between two to test did show the Buddy List but re-enabling did not.

  • Jabber and Yahoo gateways

Having a problem using Jabber and a Yahoo gateway. I set up an account (using Psi) and that was successful. I can chat with others using Psi just fine. But when I set up iChat to do this it recognizes my account, logs me in but when I open a chat with a Yahoo buddy I see them typing but the message never appears. My Yahoo Messenger and Psi work just fine but iChat is a no go I've tried creating a new Jabber account (with Psi) same results. Tried it on 2 different computers - iBook G4 and 933 mhz QuickSilver G4. Same results. Anyone have any ideas?

    Strange.
I'm still having the same problem with the server you recommended. I'm wondering if there is something that I'm not configuring correctly in Psi or iChat.
    Just to reiterate the issue:
I can sign up for a Jabber account,
configure it using Psi (loading the yahoo and msn gateways),
    Log out of Psi,
Register the Jabber account in ichat and log in,
    What works:
The contacts appear in my iChat Jabber list,
Those that are online appear online
I can send a message out to the contact
    What doesn't work:
    Receiving incoming chats from buddies
Receiving replies to chats that I've initiated
    Actions I've taken so far:
Enabled port 5222 and 5223 on UDP and TCP
I've tried with SSL activated and deactivated
Any other ideas or recommendations for servers that are working?
    Thanks,
    ...Jamie

  • Jabber for IPhone over AnyConnect VPN calls to SIP Gateway - One Way Audio

    Hello,
I am wondering if anyone has seen this before.  I have the latest version of Anyconnect for the IPhone and Jabber app, running on the newest version of CUCM 8.6 and Jabber 8.6.
The Jabber phone registers fine and I can make internal calls without an issue.  I also can make external calls to H323 and HGCP PRI gateways without an issue.  However, when I make a call from the Jabber client that goes out a SIP gateway and SIP trunk I get one way audio.  I do not see any packets even trying to leave inside interface of the ASA headed toward the SIP trunk IP.
I've also verified that useing the same VPN profile I can make 2 way audio calls out the SIP trunk from a softphone running on windows.
Anyone have any ideas what could be the problem?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
try to disable early media on 180 under sip profile settings for jabber client.

  • Jabber MSN Gateway

Is anyone else having issues with an MSN Gateway through Jabber? I have tried several accounts that were previously working, but my contacts are not appearing in iChat. I connect the the Jabber server fine, but it seems like I can't connect to the MSN Gateway on any of the Jabber servers I use.
I remember way back when I used to use Trillian, Microsoft and AOL used to change their code to try and block Trillian from working with their accounts. Is the same thing going on here you think?

    Hi leftrt,
Did you have this Jabber name before you came to the Mac ?
Or did you set it up on the Mac with a thrid party App like Psi.
If you have Psi check the Transport is active in that (and consequently at the server you are using).

  • Discussion Jabber on Notebooks and Cisco 2901 gateway

At work we now have Cisco Jabber clients on notebooks. Internal connections are now possible, allthought with great latency because the central "master" resides a thousand kilometers thru europe away behind a VPN-connection. As a country subsidiary a local cisco 2901 should connect to the telephony  as a gateway...
    - How is the general architecture of cisco collaboration?
    - Is it correct to look at our cisco 2901 like a local domain-controller in windows-network?

    Hi
Thx for the answer. To figure it out more clear on a top-level:
We are sitting in the south of europe and our master resides up in North. Using Jabber clients on notebooks a telephony-call to customers in our country will go throught vpn-tunnel up north to u-turn and  come down to our cisco2901 which is connected to legacy telephony-(ISDN-)wires and finally to customers...
    Is this a recommended architecture?
