Yahoo Mail Error in Mail App

When I go to system preferences then mail, contacts & calendars; I have an option to add different accounts. I click on Yahoo! add my Yahoo! ID and Password and I get this error: A connection error occurred. Does anybody know why this is happening, and how can I fix it?

I don't know if you are still having this issue, but I was having it too.  I believe it has to do with certain symbols being in your password.  If you change your password to not have the symbol (in my case, it was a %) it should fix the problem.

Judging from the time it occurs everyday (if I leave it on all night) I believe it is the system scheduled maintenance that is generating the error (apple set our systems to clean house at this default time).
Unfortunately, that is the extent of my knowledge, and I too would like to resolve this issue because I'm worried that something is preventing the system from EVER doing it's maintenance, now whether that error means nothing is getting done, or only one process is stopped up, I don't know!
I would think regular maintenance would be especially critical for your mail server, so I hope someone answers us quick!

  • I can't receive my incoming mail. ESP is yahoo.  Error msg says unable to connect with POP server.  Any solution?

I can't receive my incoming mail in Mac Mail. ESP is yahoo.  Error msg says unable to connect with POP server.  Any solution?  I am able to get my incoming messages via yahoo website but not through the Mail app.

Try this, if it is not the correct department, ask them for the number or to be transfered..
    Call 1-800-318-0612 for Login Help
Also on most autmated systems, if you hit 00000, or ##### you can sometimes get thru to a person.
Is Yahoo your Internet provider? Do you have  a local provider? ei:AT&T, SBC,  cable co, check who you make your check or epatment to...etc, If so I would start there, but if no joy go to the "Mothership"
I may be wrong about this, (it's been a long time now) I may have deleted my mail account from Mail (after writing down all the info from all General/accounts, and the rest of the tabs, and then added a new account using my existing email address, and it may have "walked me thru the rest of the proceedure".
But like I said it was a long time ago 3-4 years, but that may have been the path I ended up taking, make sure to write all the info down in case you need to re-enter it all manually. Then try calling them.
    All the best

  • Yahoo mail sent through Mail app do not appear when login into Yahoo mail

    Hi everybody,
I have a problem that annoying me very much. I've used Yahoomail for very long before I bought a MBA. For the first time I use Mac OSX, I try to use Mac mail combine with my old Yahoo mail. Actually, I have done the config. But anything I do with my Yahoo mail through Mail app can't appear when I login into original Yahoo mail. For example: I sent a Yahoo mail through Mac mail, it's shown that the mail was sent sucessfully, but when I try to login into Yahoo mail on Web, the sent mail doesn't exist. And the same happen when I do the opposite: the mail I sent on Yahoo mail doesn't exist on Mac mail. It's a big trouble if I use other lap and try to contact with someone. So is there any solution can fix it?
    Many thanks

I'm having the same problem, and the only help I ever seem to find suggested anywhere is "make sure its set up as an IMAP account"
BUT it is! Mail automaticly sets all yahoo accounts up as IMAP. So is this just a yahoo problem? Is there anyway to fix this?
For me the bigger issue isnt that I need to be able to check my e-mail through a web browser regulerly, but on my Iphone and Ipad the account, which is through the mail app, also dosnt show sent mail sent through the mac app.
I agree this makes mail on my mac totally usless.

Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
Or this - Delete the account in Mail and then set it up again. Settings->Mail, Contacts, Calendars -> Accounts   Tap on the Account, then on the red button that says Remove Account.

  • Yahoo Mail - Unable to delete and Cannot Get Mail errors

A few days ago my Yahoo mail started acting up.
I keep on getting "Unable to move message" errors when trying to delete mail. The proper folder is selected as the trash folder under settings. Sometimes message do delete however, but mostly they do not.
I am also getting periodic Cannot Get Mail errors, but mostly I am able to receive mail.
This leads me to believe that this might be a yahoo issue (I opened a support request with them also) I have deleted the account from my iPhone and recreated it several times, but the problem persist.
Anybody else having similar issues with Yahoo mail ?
    Thanks
PS I have Yahoo Mail Plus with POP access

I opened a ticket with Yahoo, a day later they came back and advised that they made some changes to my account, but it still does not work.
There is something strange about how Apple and Yahoo communicates, I think there is some exchange in the middle that is causing the problems. The reason for me saying this is the error I got periodically stating that "Cannot Get Mail, The user name or password for imap.apple.mail.yahoo.com is incorrect". Why imap.APPLE.mail.yahoo.com ???
I did however setup a "Other" mail type account using the POP and SMTP settings from Yahoo and it works like a charm now, no more problems and I can now even use a different reply to e-mail address. Only issue might be that you no longer have the Yahoo side custom mail folders on the iPhone, but this is no big deal for me.
For the incoming server I used pop.mail.yahoo.com with my Yahoo username and password (username without @yahoo.com)
For outgoing, SMTP, Hostname I used smtp.mail.yahoo.com with my Yahoo username and password (username without @yahoo.com), SSL = ON, authentication = Password and server port 465
Under advanced settings for outgoing mail server, Use SSL = ON , authentication = Password and server port 995.
I am not claiming that I understand all of the above, but it works. Hopefully this may point you in the right direction.

  • Using Yahoo! Mail & Mail Plus in Mail.app

This is two issues in one thread, but probably will gain something from a combined discussion. I have a few Yahoo! accounts, and currently all are non-Plus (free). I used a third party app, MacFreePOPs/freepopsd to download my various inboxes to Apple Mail so I could centralize my email, but it is a limitation of the freepopsd setup that you cannot send, only receive, so sending email requires logging into Yahoo! Mail in a browser. I would be willing to pay for at least my main account to make it Mail Plus to I can hook it legitimately into Mail, but first I need to know something.
Right now, my Sent box is completely empty. Now, as I just said, I haven't sent any email from Mail, but I would still think that sent emails that were in those other mailboxes would have downloaded into Mail, because that's how my iPod touch works. This leads to the following questions:
*Is there anything I can do to download the free accounts' sent emails into Mail? I really want to be able to back those up along with the incoming mail I already have.
*If the above is not possible, will a Yahoo! Mail Plus account allow me to download that account's past sent emails into Mail?
*If I ever get all the accounts' sent email downloaded, does it all get thrown together in the Sent box? Because that would be bad.
*Why does the iTouch work flawlessly in sending/receiving on all the same accounts but I can't get my more sophisticated desktop Mac to do the same? Some special iPod magic?

Is there anything I can do to download the free accounts' sent emails into Mail? I really want to be able to back those up along with the incoming mail I already have.
    No, you can't do that.
If the above is not possible, will a Yahoo! Mail Plus account allow me to download that account's past sent emails into Mail?
If you had a Yahoo! Mail Plus account, you could download your messages to your Desktop as a .zip file, which would be in .eml format. After that you could import them into Mail 3.x if they were in mbox format.
If I ever get all the accounts' sent email downloaded, does it all get thrown together in the Sent box? Because that would be bad.
Yes, but you would presumably only be exporting your Sent messages for each mail account separately, so each accounts' messages would be in their own folder in mbox format. As long as you setup each mail account in Mail correctly beforehand, you can just move these different groups of Sent messages into their appropriate sub-folder for the Sent mailbox.
Why does the iTouch work flawlessly in sending/receiving on all the same accounts but I can't get my more sophisticated desktop Mac to do the same? Some special iPod magic?
The iPod touch is a completely different device than a desktop Mac, and it's probably one of those agreements that Apple reached with Yahoo! to allow this feature, since you can't count on every iPhone or iPod touch user also owning a Mac.

  • How do I set up an IMAP Yahoo! Beta mail account in MAIL app?

    Hi there!
I would like to know how do I set up an IMAP mail account from Yahoo! Mail Beta in Mail app. Can someone help me?
    THX!

Please disregard my post above. It appears that Yahoo does now indeed have IMAP access. From Wikipedia:
    "Free IMAP and SMTPs access
It is possible to get direct IMAP access. Yahoo! operates IMAP and secure IMAP servers (imap.mail.yahoo.com in particular), which are globally accessible. However they require a specific, non-standard IMAP command to be sent before login is done, namely: “ID ("GUID" "1")”. This non standard command is not required if accessed from mobile networks, typically those used by smart phones on mobile carriers such as AT&T, T-Mobile, etc... For regular internet users, it is feasible to modify an open-source e-mail client to send the ID command, and there are modified versions of Mutt and Mozilla Thunderbird available to download.[25] Alternatively, one can connect an unmodified e-mail client through an IMAP proxy that adds the ID command. A commercial software package that accomplishes this is called 'Yahoo IMAP Connector',[26] available here. Mutt-dev (1.5) works without any modifications.
It is also possible to send mail through mail clients as Yahoo! also operates an SMTP server (smtp.mail.yahoo.com). It is necessary to enable SSL through port 465. For IMAP and SMTPS access the username is the user's Yahoo! Mail address and the password is the same as for webmail access.
Mac OS X users can directly set up an IMAP account in Apple Mail 4.4. After entering a full name, email address and password, hold down the Option key. The Create button will change to Continue, allowing one to manually configure the account settings."

  • Help! My iPhone 6 isn't updating the yahoo mail in the mail app!

My iPhone 6 has stopped updating the yahoo mail account in the mail app. Gmail and Cloud work fine. I have updated to the newest iOS update, I have deleted the yahoo mail and put it back in, I have turned the phone off and on, I have also done a hard restart. The individual yahoo mail app works, but not the yahoo account in the mail app that comes in the phone. Please help me get it back to normal!

Delete the Yahoo mail account. Re-add it. Done.

  • TS3274 I recently lost all my notes and my ipad will no longer allow me to connect to my yahoo email via the Mail app. Is there anything i can do?

I also think it may have to do with the fact that i dropped it...
When i try to connect to my yahoo email via the Mail thingy, it will say "user name or password for apple.imap.mail.yahoo.com is incorrect even though my yahoo password and user name is correct. I know because if i were to het my username or password wrong, it would tell me "user name or password for *insert my email* is incorrect".

This is copied from your first post. Am I reading this wrong? Aren't you saying that you are getting a message that the username and password are incorrect? That's why I asked another the word apple in the name. I don't use Yahoo mail that may in fact be correct but I'm just checking,
IF you are getting a message that the username and password are incorrect.....
Check the outgoing mail server setting. Make sure that your username and password are in there.
Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calendars>Your email account>Account>Outgoing mail server - tap the server name next to SMTP and check in the primary server and make sure your username and password are entered and correct - even if it says that the password is optional.

Network errors can cause the password dialog.
The correct answer to a Mail.app password dialog is almost always cancel, too.
