Yahoo Mail, Iphone and Apple Mail

Hi,
I don't currently have an Iphone but plan to get one in the coming months. I've been having trouble finding answers to questions regarding Push Yahoo Mail:
1. Are yahoo e-mails sent through the Iphone also saved in the sent messages folder on the Yahoo server?
2. Not an Iphone question, but has anyone noticed when using Apple Mail with Yahoo Pop 3 (I'm a paid premium member), messages sent thru Apple Mail are NOT saved in the sent folder on the Yahoo server? G-mail Pop 3 DOES.
3. Does the Iphone recognize e-mails filtered into Yahoo Mail's folders? Apple Mail doesn't.
Any info much appreciated!

  • How do I synch iPhone 4S, Apple Mail 3.6 and Gmail?

    I believe this is the simplest way to phrase this:
    I want everything that I do to my Gmail account, no matter where I do it (iPhone 4S, Apple Mail 3.6 on a MacBook Pro, and Gmail on the web) to synch across those three platforms.
    Now on to the more complicated part and multiple questions:
    Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that the only way for iPhone 4S, Apple Mail 3.6 and Gmail web to behave completely "in synch" is to use ONLY IMAP...and therefore, the first step I took was to DISABLE POP on Gmail web, and ENABLE IMAP on Gmail web.
    Problem #1: My Apple Mail account was originally set up as POP. Therefore, I created a "second" gmail account in Apple Mail, using the same username and password, but choosing to use IMAP rather than POP. So now MAILBOXES in Apple Mail has 2 "sub inboxes" under my Inbox, which I named "Gmail Pop (for archival purposes only)" and "Gmail - IMAP." There is also "DRAFTS" (unchanged), "SENT" (unchanged), and "TRASH" with 2 "sub trash cans" - Gmail Pop and Gmail IMAP.
    * Since POP is disabled, at this point is it safe to completely delete the entire POP account from my Apple Mail? If I do that, will "Gmail Pop" disappear as a "sub inbox" and "sub trash can"? I would like to have only 1 INBOX and TRASH under MAILBOX in Apple Mail.
    * Once I am ONLY using IMAP on my MacBrook Pro, what happens when I have no wireless / internet connection (for example, when I'm out of my condo and riding on the train)? Is there any way to actually download my Inbox, Drafts, Sent and Trash folders to Apple Mail on my Mac using only IMAP - so that I have the option to work offline?
    Problem #2: I figured out how to change the setting on my iPhone so that I can actually delete messages and not just archive them to "All Mail" on Gmail Web and make them disappear from the iPhone Inbox.  The issue is that on all 3 devices - iPhone 4S, Apple Mail 3.6 AND Gmail, with IMAP enabled I now have 3 "trash folders":  I'm not exactly sure where everything is going depending where it's deleted from, but I ONLY want it to go to TRASH (and not the weird [Gmail]Trash folder nor the newly created "Deleted Messages" option in Gmail Web) - regardless of how it's deleted.
    * How do I get rid of the [Gmail]Trash and Deleted Messages options across all 3 clients (iPhone, Apple Mail and Gmail web) - so that whether I'm running my thumb over the message in my Inbox and choosing "Delete" (iPhone version) / pressing the "Delete" button on my Mac (Apple Mail version) / checking the box next to the message in my inbox and then clicking the Trash icon that comes up (Gmail version) - so that no matter how I'm deleting my mail, all that happens is that it goes into just one Trash area (on all 3 clients) - so that it gets permanently deleted after 30 days....Basically, I don't want messages lingering in a bunch of different trash folders, where some are permanently deleted and some aren't - I just want 1 "centralized" trash area!
    Problem #3: In Apple Mail --> Mail --> Preferences --> Mailbox Behaviors: If I want the solutions for problem #1 and problem #2 to work, which boxes should be checked?  I don't really understand why you would or would not put everything on "the server"... nor do I understand what "server" they are talking about.
    Problem #4: Since I've started using IMAP on my Mac, my internet connection in general, as well as my Apple Mail, has slowed down quite a bit. Will this go away once I completely rid my computer of the POP files?
    Problem #5: Doesn't it seem pretty simple that someone would want all the same things to happen to you whether you're using Gmail web, Apple Mail, or your iPhone? Why don't Google and Apple work together to make this a MUCH simpler process?

    I'm sorry, but Apple does not provide a downgrade path for iOS. Because downgrading is unsupported by Apple we cannot discuss it on these forums.

  • Accessing Yahoo! folders from Apple Mail

    I already know how to synchronise my Yahoo! account with Apple Mail and it kinda work. I have a free Yahoo! mail account. I noticed on my iPod, its shows my custom folders and sent e-mails from the web. But on my Mac, Apple Mail does not show them. Just load all my e-mails from Inbox only. I want it to show my folders and sent e-mails from the web, just like my iPod.
    Thank you.

    No, YPOPS will not work, since it's for Windoze, not Mac. I haven't seen a solution for this, since Yahoo! seems to have effectively barred any workaround that I've heard about. Some EU countries prohibit Yahoo! from charging for this if your account was established before a certain date; otherwise you have to pay the fee like everyone else.
    But for $19.99 per year for unlimited email storage and additional features, that's a really good deal. If you're adamantly opposed to paying for a good service, you can use Gmail, which is completely free, at least for now.

  • Downloading of emails via webmail, iPhone and Mac Mail

    I currently access emails from my ISP via three avenues. I use webmail when I'm in the office, iPhone on the go and Mac Mail at home. However, I will end up seeing the same emails three times. Even after deleting unwanted emails from my webmail, they will still appear in iPhone and Mac Mail when I access emails and vice versa. Has this anything to do with the POP or IMAP settings? I have set my ISP email on iPhone and Mac Mail under POP. I have ever tried to change the POP to IMAP with same results.
    Any advice? Thanks.

    I am having the same issue.

    I have 3 mail accounts in apple mail. One of them has had the spinning ball going for several days and I cannot receive mail in this account or delete messages etc. For some  reason, I CAN send mail on Apple mail using this account, although it takes several minutes. I can receive mail in this account on my iPad and by signing into aol on safari and internet explorer on my office PC. It's obviously a glitch in Apple's Mail. I've deleted this account and reopened it in Mail on my Mac Pro with no difference. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, this E amil account is major to my business.

    sounds like a corrupt database or index
    the glitch is your home folder and mail folder, esp look at syncservices
    I'd post in the mail or Lion forum where you will find similar issues being discussed.

    Yes, if you choose the Erase and Sync option (or restore your iPod) you will be allowed to sync your iPod with the new computer.
    If you would like to save the content that's currently on your iPod, see this older thread from another forum member Zevoneer discussing the different ways to copy the content on an iPod back to your PC.

  • Changed email from pop to imap in entourage 2008 and apple mail and have lost a lot of messages

    Changed email from pop to imap in entourage 2008 and apple mail and have lost a lot of messages. I am a rookie and don't know what to do to correct the situation

    I found this great set of mail AppleScripts:
    http://homepage.mac.com/aamann/Mail_Scripts.html
    It includes one script to delete duplicate messages. So if we can't find a way to do this right, then I'll just download all the duplicates then delete them. Of course I don't want to actually do that, lets call this the nuclear option.
    So can anyone think of a way to make an IMAP account for my gmail without it downloading all the messages again that I have already downloaded?

  • Squirrelmail, IMAP folders, and Apple Mail

    Squirrelmail as included with Mac OS X Server lets you remotely access your Inbox via a web-browser. It also automatically creates sub-folders to store drafts, sent, and trashed emails as done during a Squirrelmail session.
    These have a folder structure like this
    Inbox
    ...Drafts
    ...Sent
    ...Trash
    When you look at this in Apple mail you will see a triangle next to your Inbox and turning it down reveals the same sub-folders.
    The purpose of this posting, is that I believe this structure is not the same as the default Apple Mail structure and as such Apple Mail and Squirrelmail will not automatically be using the same IMAP folders to store drafts, sent and trash.
    It is possible in Apple Mail to select one of these Squirrelmail created folders, and go to the Mailbox menu and select the "Use This Mailbox For..." command to make it the folder to use for that purpose. It is also possible to edit the Squirrelmail config.php file to adjust its settings which as default will be
    $defaultfolderprefix = 'INBOX/';
    $trash_folder = 'Trash';
    $sent_folder = 'Sent';
    $draft_folder = 'Drafts';
    My question is what if any, would be a better setting for Squirrelmail so that Squirrelmail puts the folders in the right place for Apple Mail and uses the right names for Apple Mail so that an Apple Mail user does not have to change anything?
    The benefit would be that rather each and every user having to alter the Apple Mail setup, I could do one edit of the config file for Squirrelmail and this would then apply forever for all users.

    Ok, I may have worked out the answer myself.
    Apple Mail in the Apple Mail program uses the folder names
    Drafts
    Sent
    Trash
    However it appears to use +on the server+
    Drafts
    Sent Messages
    Deleted Messages
    So it appears that in order to get Squirrelmail to match the settings Apple Mail uses and therefore save the Apple Mail user the hassle at their end you need to do two things.
    1. Change the IMAP folder path in Squirrelmail from the default 'INBOX/' to '' (nothing)
    2. Change the special IMAP folder names in Squirrelmail from the default to match Apple Mail
    Therefore in the the Squirrelmail config.php you will go from the default
    $defaultfolderprefix = 'INBOX/';
    $trash_folder = 'Trash';
    $sent_folder = 'Sent';
    $draft_folder = 'Drafts';
    to
    $defaultfolderprefix = '';
    $trash_folder = 'Deleted Messages';
    $sent_folder = 'Sent Messages';
    $draft_folder = 'Drafts';
    which matches what Apple Mail is using.

    Hello jo90733,
    I would recommend reinstalling Mountain Lion to replace the missing/damaged components of these applications. While the process shouldn't affect any data (images, music, etc) you have on the system, it's always a good idea to have a backup in place prior to reinstalling.
    OS X Mountain Lion: Back up your Mac
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH11371
    OS X Mountain Lion: Reinstall OS X
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH10763
    Important: You need to be connected to the Internet to reinstall OS X.
    Choose Apple menu > Restart. Once your Mac restarts (and the gray screen appears), hold down the Command (⌘) and R keys.
    If you’re not connected to the Internet, choose a network from the Wi-Fi menu (in the top-right corner of the screen).
    Select Reinstall OS X, and then click Continue.
    Follow the onscreen instructions. In the pane where you select a disk, select your current OS X disk (in most cases, it is the only one available).
    To start the installation, click Install.
    Cheers,
    Allen

  • Simulate gmail archive behavior with iCloud and apple mail (lion)

    does anyone know of a way to configure an iCloud mail account in apple mail (lion) such that the delete button actually archives email?  i'd like to simulate the behavior of a gmail account in apple mail, which does just that, i.e. delete sends messages to the "All Mail" folder.  in this case, i'd like it to send emails to the "Archive" folder.  as i have one gmail account and one iCloud account, it would be great if there was one consistent means of archiving mail, versus using the ctrl-cmd-A shortcut for iCloud mail.
    iOS 5 actually has such a setting to do just that: "Archive Messages" under the iCloud mail settings.  so it seems strange to me that apple mail would not.
    thanks!

    Actually, Apple has always supported using custom folders in iMap for Deleted Messages, Drafts, Sent, & Junk. But I agree that with the release of 10.7.2 and iCloud with their new Archive feature, they haven't made it easy!
    I run my Mac in Swedish, so forgive me if I don't remember or get the exact wording of each option 100% correct, but I'm sure you'll figure it:
    In Mail Settings under your iCloud account, and in the middle tab (Mail Box Functions?), under the trash option at the bottom, make sure that:
    Move deleted mail to the trash can is Checked!
    Save deleted mail on on the server is Checked!
    Delete trashed (?) mail permanently is set to NEVER!
    Then go back to the main mail window and display the folders for your iCloud account on the LH side
    Select your achive folder.
    Go to the Mail Box menu in the menubar, Select "Use this mailbox for..." and then Select trash.
    You will not notice that your archive folder now appears under the trash can in Apple Lion Mail (and the deleted items folder that is no longer the trash will appear under the folders).
    This works a treat, and in fact I use this for Gmail as well. If you're interested, I have so much mail in all mail, but I want to have everything in Apple Mail. I also get to have a private backup on my Mac (and Time Machine).
    So, in Gmail, I have an "Apple Trash" folder which I link to deleted items as above, and which every six months or so I relabel (in the gmail app) to another folder. That way I don't have 50,000 mails in my trash. I don't activate All Mail in Gmail's IMAP because everything I have is always in at least one other folder / lable which syncs to my mac!
