Yahoo mail not updating in Apple Mail on OS X

Whenever I mark a message as read or delete it from the web and/or my iPhone, it never updates in OS X unless I close Mail and re-open it. The account is configured as IMAP, but is not behaving as such. Anyone know how to remediate this issue?

Thanks, but that's not the issue I have. I get new messages fine. The issue is that after I get new messages they won't go away after I delete them on another device.
Also, this work around seems pretty crude. Having to manually check for new messages was something done in the 90s. Any modern (and by modern I mean the past decade) should be able to automatically check for new mail.

  • Gmail smtp (outgoing) mail not working with apple mail 5

    Hi,
I have a numbe of gmail accounts, I can receive mail through the new apple mail 5 client but can't send any at all.
I've tried everything gmail help suggests but to no avail...
    Cheers,
    Alex

Have you use the correct outgoing server - smtp.mail.me.com and SSL is required. I would suggest removing the account and starting again, following the instructions applicable to Leopard in this page:

  • HT1277 Configuring only outgoing mail (not incoming) in Apple Mail

I am using Gmail (IMAP) in Apple Mail (version 6.2) on my iMac. I am trying to configure my Mail settings so that it does not download incoming emails onto my iMac, rather only allows me to send outgoing email. Any ideas?

    AceNeerav: to avoid potential confusion...
...Microsoft Outlook Express is a rather different application from Apple Mail.app tool, beyond both being email clients.  While the basic functions are similar, the user interfaces are different.
...IMAP connects the mail client to the server for listing folders and for receiving mail; IMAP is the receive path for messages, from mail server to mail client.  IMAP does not provide outbound connection; that's provided by the SMTP or ESMTP server; SMTP is the send path, from mail client to mail server.
If you have a particular question about Outlook Express or Apple Mail.app tools, please link to it.  (I don't see any related links in your recent profile.)

  • Yahoo mail not updating

YAhoo mail not updating for some days. I had to downliad yahoo app to check my mails

A lot of people have been unable to access Yahoo e-mail on their iPhones or iPads. My wife’s iPad was not downloading Yahoo mail, although her iPhone was. Both used IOS 8.2. We tried deleting the account several times and troubleshooting all of the other settings. The problem appears to have been that allowing the IOS to automatically create the account on the iPad resulted in the wrong settings for the incoming server. The following procedure, pieced together from two websites, fixed the problem for us. So far, so good.
    https://portal.smartertools.com/kb/a2659/configure-imap-for-iphone-or-ipad.aspx
    https://help.yahoo.com/kb/mobile-mail/imap-server-settings-sln4075.html
    On the iPhone, tap Settings.
    Tap Mail, Contacts, Calendars.
Tap your Yahoo account, then delete it.
    Tap Add Account.
    Tap Other.
    Tap Add Mail Account.
Complete the Name, Address (email address), Password and Description fields.
    Click Next.
    Ensure IMAP is selected.
Enter the following incoming mail server information:
Incoming Mail (IMAP) Server - Requires SSL
    Server: imap.mail.yahoo.com
    Port: 993
    Requires SSL: Yes
    Hostname is mail.yahoo.com.
Username is your full email address
Password is the same password used to access webmail.
Enter the following outgoing mail server information:
Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server - Requires SSL
    Server: smtp.mail.yahoo.com
    Port: 465 or 587
    Requires SSL: Yes
    Requires authentication: Yes
Username is your full email address
Password is the same password used to access webmail. It may have been entered for you.
    Tap Next.
The iPhone will establish an SSL connection to your IMAP and SMTP servers.
    That’s all!

  • Mail not updating Exchange Folder

Hey all, I have my Mail (Version 4.5) set up with 6 different email accounts, one of them is my work email with runs off an exchange server. Up until yesterday, it was working just fine, but all of a sudden, my main inbox won't update.  I have subfolders (set up through Outlook, not through my Mac) and rules so certain emails go into certain folders. Those still work fine, and I get those, but my main inbox refuses to pull in new emails. I opened up Outlook 2011 on my computer and it pulls them in fine, i just don't want to use Outlook because I can't stand the way it organizes things. Anyway, is there any reason my inbox wouldn't be pulling in emails all of a sudden? I contacted the IT department and they said no changes were made to the server yesterday that would have caused this.

I'm observing the same behavior frequently with my Exchange account. When I open the activity window (Cmd+0) I can see an entry "adding mails" that does "hang" and not finish. As soon I stop this activity new mails are downloaded.
In another thread I've read that a malformed mail (could happen with some strange SPAM mails) on the server could cause this issue. So I access my Exchange account by browser (OWA, Outlook Web Access) and delete any message in my inbox that does look strange (by means of the mail header). And then downloading mails works again in Apple Mail.
This is something Apple would have to fix since it's annoying if you don't know if Mail did really download all new mails from your account - until you check your account with another access way (e.g. OWA).

  • Gmail suddenly not working with Apple Mail

My gmail suddenly is not working with Apple Mail.
It said my username or password is wrong, but it was okay this morning.
Nevertheless, I deleted my gmail account, and re-setup it using Internet Accounts from System Preference.
However, I got the beow message:
There was a problem setting up the Mail account. An unknown error occurred.
I am sure my username and password are correct because I just login it using Safari.
Does anyone know what the cause is?
    Please help~~~

Gmail not syncing in mac mail is a problem that is also in snow leopard since the new year.
OSX 10.6.8  is the highest OS that will run on an Intel Core 2 Duo.  Do not try to install Mavericks on this machine! I will install, but turns it into a dinosaur and many programs will no longer run.
I had an issue with Mac Mail not syncing with imap.gmail.com. and Safari not being able to find apple.com.
This was resolved by working with an upper level tech support member for several hours deleating particular system library files, uninstalling most addons, reseting system network settings and a whole lot more! (too much to name here)
    Thank you Apple Tech Support.

  • Entourage Notes Export to Apple Mail Notes

I have searched but could not find a solution yet to export Entourage Notes to Apple Mail Notes. I have more then 2000 notes so I hope to find an easy solution to this. If it will not work with Apple Mail Notes maybe someone has an application which will just have the notes and ideally sync them with iPhone. Thanks

    hello
I get 50% of your needs: export entourage notes (to another soft like MarkspaceNotesbook). I let you find how to use them (files.txt) in Mail. Let me know!
There is a solution to export these notes by using a smartphone (or perhaps it works too with your ipod).
    - connect the device (mobile phone I mean) to the Mac,
    - sync the notes from Mac to the device (using PocketMac software or Missing sync software)
    - use now the explore feature of PocketMac or Missing Sync. (to "see" on the device).
    - explore the device and find your notes
    - drag the notes with you mouse, from the device to a notes software (for example MarkspaceNotesbook. I tryed also with Yojimbo but it has hard to do it).
    - Markspacenotesbook will take the note and keep safe their titles.
    - this process could have bugs. I discover once it refused big quantities. Drag and dropp 10 per 10 if it is the cases.
    Hope it works for you

  • Emails not showing in Apple Mail inbox.

    Hi All,
I can see emails being pulled into my inbox in Apple Mail but the inbox appears to be  empty. The only way I can view them is to create a smart folder.
I've checked the Junk and Trash but they're not there.
Rebuilding the Inbox and deleting the preference file make no difference.
I've also removed and readded the account.
I'm using IMAP in Lion (I also have a Mountain Lion iMac but that's okay).
Thanks in advance for any help.

Welcome to my confusing and problematic world. We currently have 20-odd users on the Google Apps domain. 3 of them are using Apple Mail to access their mail. 1 is having problems. The only thing different about this user is that we imported messages in from Outlook using the Google mail importer. This is the only thing I can think. The importer seemed to ignore certain folders, even if we retried, and it created folders as inbox/insurance_ etc. I changed all the folders to INBOX in caps, as that is what Mail preferred, and removed the trailing underscore.
This is the only thing different about this user.
On a web browser looking at Gmail, I have:
    Inbox
    Starred
    Sent Mail
    Drafts
    [Imap]Drafts
    Apple Mail To Do
    Deleted Items
    Deleted Messages
    Follow Up
    INBOX/folder1
    INBOX/folder2
    INBOX/folder2/folder1
    etc...
    INBOX/Folder113
    Junk E-mail
    Misc
    Priority
    Sent Messages
4 More (containing Chats, All Mail, Spam, Bin)
I did another "Account Info" and got this: http://gallery.me.com/rtaxerxes/100023/Screen%20shot%202009-11-04%20at%2010.19.5 9%20PM
You'll notice, now it does have an Inbox. But the folders it says are 0 messages and 0 KB do actually have stuff in them on the web browser.

  • O2M not transferring to Apple Mail

i've spent the last few days trying to get my outlook mail moved over to apple mail (10.4.10). I used O2M to convert my mail into .mbox files. i moved them over to my mac. entourage won't read/acknowledge them. apple mail will list them as options to import, and then will say that the imported files will be in the 'import' folder, which actually never gets created. i've tried every little trick i can imagine. nothing works. O2M says it goes direct to apple mail. apple mail's .mbox files are not files. they are folders, so its hard to see how this could work. any ideas?

I don’t know how O2M works, but standard mbox files (not to be confused with Mail’s *.mbox folders) must certainly be imported in Mail as Other. If imported as Other, standard mbox files are recognized as such by Mail regardless of where they are, whether they have an .mbox extension or no extension at all, or whether there are other files in the same folder.
If you pay attention to the instructions that Mail displays when choosing Other as the data format, however, you’ll see that in the next step Mail wants you to select the folder that contains the mbox files to be imported, not the mbox files themselves which will appear greyed out and is what may have confused you.

I have an iLife 11 disc that doesn't work very well so I tried creating a disk image of it with Disk Utility.  It took two tries but finally got a disk image that I could use to install the iLife 11 applications. Give it a try.

  • TS3276 Yahoo! sent mail not updated in the server.

I have an issue with Yahoo! Mail. When I'd sent email from my Mail from my mac book air, it can be sent but a copy is not updated in the server, thus when I view from the web or other device I can't see it as it is not updated. I've checked the "store sent msg in server" in the mail preference.
I don't this issue with exchange and gmail.
    Thanks

Right that is how the  POP email protocol works. If you want all mail sent and received to always be on the Mail Server then you have to use a mail provider that allows, uses, either IMAP or MS Exchange.
