Yahoo! Mail Vs. Gmail Which do you prefer & why?

I’m in the process of transferring my exchange email account with 1and1.com to either Gmail or Y!mail since it’s not working properly with the iPhone (i.e. Delete an email on the iPhone and it’s not removing it from the server).
I’d like to get feedback from people that have either account, and why they like it?
Features I’m looking for…
1.Catch all email account
2.Ability or future ability to sync with outlook Calendar, Contacts and email
3.Most of all, when you delete an email on the iPhone it deletes it off the account
4.Ability to use various sent from addresses and use them on the iphone
*I’ll just have email forwarded to my Gmail or Y!mail via my .com’s
Thanks in advance!

I was not content with Mail, so I just downloaded
Thunderbird. I'm just wondering what others think of
both products.
I downloaded Thunderbird for the newsreader. I haven't bothered trying to use it for e-mail, though, because I have been happy enough with Mail.app for now. I would like, however, to have a Mac newsreader integrated with the rest of the software, e.g. Mail, Address Book, etc. I have also been disappointed that Mail.app seems to base its threading solely on the contents of the "Subject:" field, apparently ignoring "Thread-Index:". I'm also having a hard time figuring out how to achieve that which MS Outlook calls Auto Archive. It's easy enough to create a Smart Mailbox to collect all mail of a certain age but I'm having a bit of trouble figuring out how to then have that mailbox automatically emptied.

  • Send email through Yahoo mail or Gmail with Java

I have a java email program that can take a mail host name , port number and then send an email, but I don't want to use the mail host at work, I wonder if I can send email through my Yahoo Mail or Gmail account with Java, do they have any Java API that my program can log me in and send emails ? Any sample code available ? Thanks.
    Frank

Thanks for reminding me, I did some search on "Yahoo" and "Gmail". For Yahoo someone posted some code that didn't work, for gmail, there seems to be a solution for sending email from command line. I wonder if I can send full fledged email : with CC, BCC, Attachment, Html email with images inside ...
I've done it with a local mail host, but how to do it with Yahoo or Gmail ?
    Frank
Have you read the JavaMail FAQ? Search for "Yahoo" and "Gmail".

  • Cannot send or receive yahoo mail or gmail from iPhone . installed ios 6 recently. tried rebooting the phone and deleting the email account and adding again but nothing works ! can someone suggest a solution?

Not sure about yahoo, but for gmail, I done the following:
Set up using Exchange on iPhone, it'll keep prompting for password.  On PC use captcha option, log in to gmail account from PC after completingg captcha option, enter password on iPhone.
See how that goes for gmail, let us know.
Hopefully someone will have fix for yahoo.

  • Which do you prefer -  Bootcamp or Parallels ?

What is the major difference between these two and which do you prefer on your system ?
Do you have to partition for both and how much do they recommend as a minimum for partition size ?

Bootcamp and Parallels both have different values to me so its hard to judge.
If youneed direct access to firewire devices (Firewire sound or video) Parallels ain't gonna do it for ya as there is no device interface level firewire support
Parallels being just a virtual machine does not have its own native file system. Instead it emulates a filesystem on a hard disk. It does this by creating a big file on the hard disk in the Mac OS X filesystem and that big file is treated as the hard disk in the virtual machine. With that in mind you don't need to do any partitioning of your OSX system to install parallels. Parallels as a virtual machine application is not revolutuionary and in my opinion is no better or worse than Virtual PC or VMWare in their repective hosted environments. I lot of the giddy-up surrounding Parallels was pure hype. Don't get me wrong its a good product and I use it. I just don't it as the next coming of the antimicrosoft savior.
BootCamp on the other side provides a capable fast Win-XP system. It does require a seperate partition but installing Bootcamp will allow you to configure that. MacDrive 6 allows you to access your HFS drives in windows XP so both O/Ses have read write access to both file systems. OSX natively only has read access to NTFS Partitions. You have to run Fat32 to allow OSX to read _and write_ to it. Win-XP will natively restrict you to 32GB size for FAT32 even though you can create larger prtitions in other applications. I have sucessfully done so as an act of futility, but if you want a simple setup environment then keep your XP partition under 32GB.
I came from a PC environment and wound up setting up XP several times to get partitioning right. I will be resetting again in a week or two to reduce my XP partition in size as I find I use OSX more than XP. Without doubt my XP setup is the fastest laptop environment I have ever used run /seen and use it almost exclusively to run Traktor DJ software as it doesn't run well at all under Rosetta and universal binaries are 3-4 months off.
Bootcamp gives you near full device level access to all the Mac hardware devices Built in sound and the camera being two that need work and apple note it in their release notes for bootcamp. Everything else including Firewire works great.
At the end of the day I use both but thus far don't use Parallels too much at all. Both have their own advantages.

  • Transferring from Yahoo mail to Gmail default service for calendar

    Good day,
I am given up on using Yahoo Mail after 13 years.  I get timed out and have problems login in and some of my messages don't get forwarded to my BlackBerry.  So I switched over to using Gmail as my main e-mail provider and it's been working well so far.
I use Outlook calendar on my laptop and sync it with my Torch 9800 using USB connection.  If I remove my Yahoo Mail as a default sevice for Calendar, Contact List and Messaing, and select Gmail as my default service how do I convert all my calendar and contact list to the Gmail profile.  Actually, not sure if my contact list would be affected since I don't see the association of the contact list to my Yahoo Mail currently.   If I delete my Yahoo profile would my events get deleted or would they get transferred to the default calendar profile?  Or do I just sync it again with my Outlook and my events will be transferred to the Gmail profile after selecting Gmail as my default service for Calendar and Contact List.  I hope I am explaining this correctly.  I also have a Facebook calendar profile showing birthday reminders, which I'm trying to remove but that's another problem.
I want to do it right the first time and don't want to accidentally delete my events and contact list.
    Thanks in advance.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Before doing anything make a full backup of the device.
I think you can solve this by making the Gmail the default service. Then in the calendar app go to Options. On the screen type the letters M O V E. That should move all events to the default calendar. It's been a while since I've done this, though.

  • How can i send mail to the yahoo mail or gmail or something else

    hello guys,
i want to know how to send mails to the yahoo or gmail or something else.i heard that we have to change some smtp address and some port number. can any body suggest me to get that.please help me
any replies will be appreciated greatly.

    Hi chnaresh,
This is the code I use to send mail, it's not specific to gmail, but it works. The "props" object expects the usual mail properties, "mail.smtp.host", "mail.user" or "mail.smtp.user", as well as "mail.smtp.ssl" which you'd want to set to "true" if you're using gmail. It also expects "mail.smtp.passwd" or "mail.passwd" which my gut tells me is unsafe, but I'm not sure why.
    Good luck,

What a pain. I am using 10.3.9, and all was fine

This just happened to me. Apparently yahoo mail just implemented something.. Check out this message from yahoo mail.
    =================
Sorry, Yahoo! Mail Beta does not support your browser.
You can either download a compatible browser or proceed to the original Yahoo! Mail.
If you want to use the Yahoo! Mail Beta...
You can download any of the supported browsers for free by clicking the links below:
Internet Explorer 6.0 or higher (for Windows)
Firefox 1.5 or higher (for Mac and Windows)
SeaMonkey 1.0.8 or higher (for Mac and Windows)
To proceed to original Yahoo! Mail...
Simply follow the link below. If you sign in later with a supported browser, you will automatically be taken to Yahoo! Mail Beta.
Proceed directly to the original Yahoo! Mail
I use 10.3.9 and I have no idea why yahoo mail stopped working today. I have firefox installed on my machine. BTW - firefox is able to serf the web without issues on all of my sites. I often wonder why apple wanted to build a browser, why not just use firefox and contribute to it's development for the mac environment?

  • Which do you prefer: Increasing exposure or adjusting  the tone curve?

I'd like to know how people here handle their images.
I use a Nikon D7100 in camera RAW. In camera my images are always in balance. In LR, if I select Auto Tone in Basics invariably it will adjust the exposure. I tend to adjust exposure near last in my workflow because I assume my camera had the exposure setting right. When I feel I need to adjust the exposure my first stop is the Tone Curve. I'm wondering a couple of things:
    1) I know we edit by the specifics of each photo, but generally do you make adjustments to Exposure or the Tone Curve first?
    2) Is there a reason or a time to prefer one over the other?
    Thanks,

    My recommendation:
(note: I am interpreting "exposure", in your question, to mean "dynamic range at right wall of histogram", i.e. white point)
Adjust basics exposure first (before tone/point curve), but note: you may not be able to go all the way using the exposure slider. Next stop (if necessary): +whites, but note: it may not be optimal to go all the way using whites. Final stop (if necessary): cinch in the the exposure by dragging white point to the left via the point curve.
Rationale: basics have some intelligence and magic that tone curve does not. If you do tone curve first, you've missed some opportunities..
Still a begging question: how much exposure vs. whites vs. tone curve (point curve).
Note: go easy on the contrast at first, and assure blacks are sufficiently seated using blacks slider (and maybe tone/point curve).
Likewise, cranking whites up will increase global contrast, so if you take a shot at blacks and whites before contrast, then you may avoid a common mistake: radically wrong contrast due to adjusting before establishing ballpark black & white slider values.
Anyway, be aware that increased PV2012 exposure (and/or whites) is designed to be used with -highlights (note: there is no "brightness" slider), and to avoid making things too washed out (or over-jamming the highlights) it may be desirable to substitute +whites and/or +shadows for some +exposure.
Note: tones may gang up (on the right side of the histogram) in a non-optimal way when using +exposure and/or +whites, in which case it may be better to use point curve for white point adjustment (e.g. leftward drag). For example, sometimes the whites will be overly compressed if you don't bring white point in on the curve instead.
    Rules of thumb:
Most of my normal photos end up with:
    +exposure (to fully brighten)
+whites (for full dynamic range without excessive exposure setting)
    -highlights (for dialing back +exposure and/or +whites)
+shadows (so -blacks and doesn't leave image with overly dark shadows)
-blacks (for full dynamic range without needing as much contrast)
*contrast: depends - if overly contrasty to begin with (or a lot of -blacks and/or +whites are employed), this usually gets dialed back; if underly contrasty to begin with (or +blacks and/or -whites have been employed), this usually gets bumped up.
(for abnormal photos or when desiring abnormal results - anything goes..).
Other common mistakes (in addition to wrong contrast and/or non-optimal balance between exposure & whites..):
trying to recover highlights via -whites. try -highlights (and maybe +whites) before -whites.
    Warning signs:
if you have very high values for +shadows and -highlights, you may have contrast set too high.
if you have a positive value for highlights, you may have contrast/exposure/whites too low.
if you have a negative value for shadows, you may have contrast too low, or blacks/exposure too high.
    Miscellaneous:
Try +clarity and +saturation (and/or +vibrance) to pump it up, if reduced contrast and/or increased exposure has left it looking a little washed out.. (likewise, -saturation if +contrast has left it looking a little too "rich"..).
You already know this, but for the sake of completeness (and other readers): you can learn by clicking 'Auto Tone' "button". You may need to dial back the exposure afterward etc. but it can be very educational none-the-less..
Of course, you can always fine-tune tone using tone curve (e.g. if image is just way overbright, like some snow shots, try tugging the midpoint downward..).
Don't forget the locals for final spot toning.
In case you haven't gleaned yet, adjusting via PV2012 is not the same as you might think at first - you don't just set exposure/black/white points and leave them, and then adjust everything else. e.g. -highlights pulls white point down more than -whites does (but +whites brings white point back up, which means you usually need to adjust in tandem..), so be prepared for a lot of back n' forth, to lessen with experience..
PS - There are tutorial videos galore, but at the risk of opposing Adobe and their sycophants, be forewarned: some are geared to how they wished PV2012 was (simple), and not to how it really is (interdependent image-dependent settings..)   - examples:
top-down is touted, but that ignores black/white point issues which can lead to radically wrong contrast (and/or exposure) setting.
often, adjustment of blacks is considered optional/fine-tuning, but blacks sometimes need large value adjustment, and dramatically impacts contrast & shadow brightness..
often, adjustment of whites is considered optional/fine-tuning, but sometimes optimal toning can only be had by using a large whites value adjustment, which dramatically impacts contrast, and exposure..
    cteavin wrote:
I tend to adjust exposure near last in my workflow because I assume my camera had the exposure setting right.
In case not clear yet, adjusting exposure and/or whites (and/or white point on curve) and all the rest is often done to turn an image "with potential" into a very nice image, not just to compensate for in-camera exposure imperfection. I have lots of under-exposed images that end with -exposure (granted, usually +whites), and vice-versas.. That said, if you don't know whether to crank it up or down, there is something to be said for passing until you do..
Lastly, for emphasis: exposure slider is an intelligent slider. It behaves more like normal exposure adjusters at lower values, and more like brightness adjusters at higher values (has clipping protection and highlight roll-off logic which kicks in as you crank it up..). So, it's a mistake to think of adjusting it just to make up for non-optimal camera exposure setting.
Sorry for verbose answer, but there is really no short answer which doesn't run the risk of being bad advice: best way to adjust "exposure" depends...
    Cheers,
    Rob

    Stan,
So are you saying you don't like the cleaner simpler top?
No: I like either, I find both of them powerful and lively.
Do you mean to have some of the blueish green from the top, overlay onto the white mainbody? Do you mean that it should spill into the mainbody?
Indeed, something to that effect; I just imagined it as showing through a partial transparency of the mainbody.

Assuming they have the same aperture range, most likely the 55-250 will be a bit smaller/lighter.
Other than that, the only real difference is that the 55-250 will start at a slightly wider angle and won't go to as great of an extreme telephoto range.
There might be some image quality differences, but you'll need to look at some lens review sites for that kind of information.

  • Email programs: Mac 2.0.7 verses Eudora for Mac???  which do you prefer

I can get Eudora for Mac free through school. Is there any advantage to Eudora over the Mac email that came with my Powerbook? Eudora seems to have a few extra features (plus I'm familiar with it. Eudora seems a bit more complicated, but I use email a lot for my work and need a good program.
    Any input/opinions/experience appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Eric

Eudora has more priority codes so you don't have to manage e-mails by mailboxes as much as you would with Mail (though Mail does have a red flag for priorities). I haven't used it since it started having the anti-spam filtering like Apple's Mail, but the last I used its free version for the Mac you had to sacrifice features like spelling, or take an advertising window which frequently filled the hard drive with so many advertisements the program unexpectedly quit. The interface certainly is a matter of taste, and I for one prefer Mail's one window approach over Eudora's separate window approach. Eudora Lite 3.1.3L was one of the better free versions of Eudora which did not have advertisements, and easier to control whether or not you saw e-mail headers. I really suggest you visit http://www.eudora.com/ and ask to see if a feature of Eudora can be duplicated by Mail that you like. If it can't then go ahead and get Eudora.
