Yahoo maps QT w/ question mark

I have QT Pro v 7.2. No problem viewing web movies, movie trailers. But, when I go to Yahoo maps, I get a mostly blank page with a large Quicktime 'Q' with a question mark on it. What am I missing? I just got this iMac, and upgraded to the latest QT Pro version. I migrated from my PPC G4, and I am wondering if there are still some plugins that I am missing or that need to be 'fixed' for Intel Macs. I sometimes get a message that asks if I want to enable some part of Quicktime when I am looking at websites, but for Yahoo maps there was no option to alter anything. This occurred on both Safari and Firefox.
What do I need to do/get/delete to fix this problem?

I have a G4 and system 10.4.10 and everything was working great until I bought ilife and added Quicktime 7.2. I have Flash 9 and have downloaded the 7.2 compatibility software and have even reinstalled the system software, but to no avail. I get the question mark in every browser and every video. I can open
Quicktime and open a movie, but I have no video in any browser or any website that
has a video. I'm really really frustrated. Can anyone help?

My parents IMac gives a broken map symbol with question mark when they tried to start the computer. What can I do to solve this problem?

Flash Player uses its own browser plug-in.
What happens when you get a QT ? means the association to Flash Media isn't going to the correct plug-in.
Since QuickTime can't play most modern Flash Media files is throws back an error (QT logo and the ?).
It also means the Flash Media plug-in is not being used.
Turning off QuickTime (removing the plug-in) can't fix a Flash Media plug-in error. Each user must remove the association by editing the MIME Settings found in the QuickTime Control Panel (PC) or the QuickTime System Preferences/Advanced tab.
As always with these edits or adjustments the browser must be quit and relaunched for these changes to take effect.

Project Validaation error, no question marks/exclamation point, whats wrong

I've read the forum recommendations on addressing this error to no avail. I cant burn. I was prompted for project validation error. Checked DVD map but no question marks/exclamation points. I checked all chapter markers on iMovie and they were all correct. Everything on DVD map looks correct. Tried people's suggestion of saving as Disc Image or even as Video-TS but got the same error message on project validation. I've tried and retried for several hrs already but cant figure out what could be wrong.
I am using iMovie HD and iDVD 08. Dragged movie into iDVD project. Have done similar projects before without problem.
Help pls. This is so frustrating after working many hours on iDVD project.

Yes filled all the image drop zones, no extra buttons, previewed everything in iDVD map and all ok. Used a 6.0 theme in one menu, and a 5.0 or old theme in a submenu. Have done that too before without any problem.
How can I check if there is an extra unused "holder"? there are no blank buttons that I see.

Yahoo Mail On iPad - Attachments Appearing As Question Marks

A relative of mine has a Yahoo! Mail account which she uses for e-mail on her iPad.
She's had a problem recently that some of the attachments (JPGs) she's received haven't appeared in the Mail app on the iPad. Instead, they've shown up as question marks in boxes.
Anyone heard of this happening before? What's going wrong?

Your yahoo password is the same no matter what platform you access it on.
How are you trying to get at your mail? via the mail app? yahoo app? or via yahoo's mobile site and safari?
Try going into the settings, safari, passwords and autofill.
look for the site in question and tap on it. You may need to enter your passcode to access the info, but once you do you can see the password you used for that site.
On the main page that lists them all, you can see an 'edit' option. Choose that and you shoudl be able to delete the saved password for the site.

Special Character being replaced by Question Marks in Java Mapping

Hi All,
I need some help on Java Mapping related to special characters.
The problem is that i'm using a Java Mapping to add some information to the XML inside the Interface Mapping. This works fine on our development environment but, in our production environment, it replaces the special character with question marks (eg.: á --> ??).
I'm suspecting of some configuration on the Java Virtual Machine that sets the encoding, but i don't have access to it. Does anyone have any clues about this problem?

Arnis' .mif suggestion is the way I've tackled this problem from time to time, but save a spare copy before you start <g><br /><br />You may not need to, though. I haven't checked, but see if you can find a page with both a normal question-mark and one you know indicates a unicode character. Then copy/paste the unicode question-mark into the Find/replace dialogue and see what happens; I suspect it will have its own value, not the same as a normal question-mark.

With my new Imac 20 pro duo , I can't see the the map image from Yahoo Maps.Every time I try download a map , I got a blank page with a dimmed QuickTime symbol with a question mark ?
What I am missing ? Is it a firefox extension , or a quickTime error ?

The maps are made using Flash.
You need to install Flash Player on your computer to view them.

If you have installed a new hard drive , you will need to have formatted it in Disk Utility correctly. This may explain your problem.
Boot into your 10.6 Install disk again at the top menubar > Utilities > select Disk utility and in there select your new hard drive, and select the tab Erase and choose to make the format as Mac OS Extended Journaled. When that is finished look in the main window to make sure that the partition map scheme says GUID Partition Table.
Now go to the Restore tab and reinstall from your backup.

Some characters are replaced by question marks!

All of a sudden my iMac (OS X 10.5.1 Leopard) is displaying question marks for some special characters.
For example, on internet, look up a word "pediment" in Yahoo! Dictionary ( http://education.yahoo.com/reference/dictionary/entry/pediment)... Instead of showing the "dot" symbol to identify a syllabus break, it shows question marks as ped?i?ment, and instead of showing c with a little squiggle underneath for a word facade (within the definition of pediment), it shows fa?ade.
I did not have this problem on my iMac on Tuesday (01/29/08) morning and I have not installed anything other than the Apple updates.
I tried with FireFox and Safari, and both show the same thing. Then I went and checked my husband's iMac (OS X 10.5.1 Leopard) and it has a same problem, so I know it is not just my iMac.
Then (yes, there is more...) I started to work on my Word document and tried to insert "symbol" from insert on the Toolbar... many of my symbol fonts (Symbol, Osaka, etc) has question marks replacing special characters.

Well, I went to the Yahoo! Dictionary "Pediment" and it said it was set to Default which is set to Western (ISO Latin 1), so I assumed it was Western (ISO Latin 1). But when I click on Western (ISO Latin 1), the pages appear what it's supposed to look like with special characters... What does this mean?
I reset all the settings; I chose something else as default, quit Safari, opened it and chose Western (ISO Latin 1) as a default to see if it changes anything... No change. It says my default is Western (ISO Latin 1), but it seems not.
I am officially confused and have no clue what to do...??????!!!!!
On the bright side, at least I can get my work done, even if I have to change the encoding one page at a time... Thanks.

TradeMark Symbol and Registered Symbol are being replaced by question marks

Actually, i am not able to find the font name for these kind of symbols (like trade mark or Registered) and also, i am fetching the data from database and them printing on PDF (like a standard process). This trademark symbol is in database.

I think this is an encoding problem but I cannot find it in the forum archives. My apostrophes are being replaced by question marks on my jsp output?

Were you referring to the normal applications that are available for viewing data for the database (like SQL*Plus or Enterprise Manager?)
If yes, then if it was me then I would presume it was not an apostrophe and that the third party tool was mapping the real character to an apostrophe. A 'square' indicates an unusual character in viewers.
Are you using EBCDIC? Unless EBCDIC is involved apostrophe has the same value in most if not all character sets because ANSI forms the lower range for most character sets. I know for example that Korean, Japanese and Chinese character sets use ANSI, as does unicode (with padded zeros for the wider ranges.)

Images appear as question marks

I need help! I just uploaded my first dreamweaver website to
yahoo. My images appear as question marks. I've uploaded the images
in file manager along with the index.html. The site looks fine when
I preview in all browsers from dreamweaver. The files are still in
the same place on my hard drive and there are no broken links. The
file names are all lowercase and have no spaces. Please
help!

Sounds like you may have your images defined something like
<img src='c:\mysite\images\picture.jpg'> (or similar -
i don't do it so I can't remember the exact syntax of a file path)
try
<img src='images/picture.jpg'>
Again it would be easier to tell if you posted a link to your

Version 6.0 running under Win 7 - non-alphabetic characters typed appear as something other than what I typed -- É for question mark for example.

Forward slash appears as lower case e-acute é, question mark as upper-case É. Some, not all shifted numerals also map differently. Shift-3 for instance is forward slash instead of hash symbol.
I played around with character sets - various unicode and western sets - this resolved the problem in an earlier FF version, even after I`d reverted to what I started out with ( I can`t even remember what the default is now.) It was also suggested elsewhere in this forum that the problem could be resolved using the Region and Language settings in Windows Control Panel. This is obviously wrong, because the keyboard is working fine in other applications. It was also suggested I try to resolve by activating the language toolbar in the taskbar, but the option doesn`t even show up so I assume it was never installed.
My judgement this problem is definitely not OS, but Firefox.

It is possible that you have switched the keyboard layout by accident.<br />
Windows remembers that setting per application.
* Make sure that you have the Language bar visible on the Windows Taskbar.
* You can do that via the right-click context menu of the Taskbar: Toolbars > Language Bar.
* Check the keyboard language (keyboard layout) setting for the application that has focus via the icon on the Language bar.
* You need to do that while Firefox has focus because Windows remembers the keyboard layout setting per application.
* The default keys to rotate the layout is a combination (Ctrl+Shift or Alt+Shift) that can easily be used in Firefox to activate a menu item.
* To avoid an unintentional switch assign a specific key sequence (Alt/Ctrl+Shift+number) to select keyboard layouts and remove the key combination to rotate layouts (Alt+Shift or Ctrl+Shift)
* Control Panel > Regional and Language Options > Keyboards and Languages > Change keyboards > Advanced key settings > Change key sequence

Question mark in password

Hi,
i have an oim system which seems to be working fine sync password from AD -> oim -> oracle database .
i can use special characters in passwords as I have added the double-quote to ora_password in lookup.dbum.parapeter. configurations lookup /
however, whe a user set his password with the ? character the password get sync ok from AD->oim .
but the Oracle database password does not get changed to the required value , i can see that the password has been changed , but not to the password i have entered.
i don't see any erros in logs.
if i change the password to a new one that contains special characters like @ - the password get changed correctly,
so far i have noticed only that the ? (question mark ) isa problems char .
does any of you know something about such case ?

Hi Sarah,
There are some special characters hard coded in OIM as # character. In my case, I made a workaround and it is working for '#' character:
1-If through “group to approver member mapping” recon we get a group that doesn’t exist in OIM, search if that group contains “#” sign.
2-If yes, then convert that group name to some temporary name which doesn’t contain # sign and create the group.
2.1-If not, follow the normal process.
3-Just after it is created, use a sql query to update the group name to the original name.
I wrote a code for implementing this and test is working fine with add, updates, delete.
My suggestion is: Open a SR with Oracle and ask them about this special character (?). If it is hard coded or not.
If it is you can create something like my idea above, but related of your password not group names.
