Yahoo! Messenger 3.0.1 - Legacy Image Should Be Converted

Hello, I am running into issues when trying to install the Yahoo! Messenger client on my Early 2011 MacBook Pro running Lion 10.7.2.
When I click on the .dmg file it tells me that "Legacy Image Should Be Converted". I tried this method: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3158789?start=0&tstart=0 but that did not work for me.
Anyone else have any suggestions?

I selected Recovery Partition and then Disk Utility after pressing option at startup. I went to that Mac OS X Boot thing on the list with the hard drives are (like the screen shot in this discussion https://discussions.apple.com/message/18168530#18168530), but I was not able to take any actions. All Buttons were shielded out. It would be very nice if you could describe what to do once more in detail, so that I might understand it better. Thank you!!

I have downloaded Open Firmware Password.dmg at the link provided in the article. Anytime I try to open it, a message comes up: "The following disk images couldn't be opened: Open Firmware Password.dmg, Reason: legacy image should be converted." Mavericks is not recognizing the .smi extension - on my Mac it thinks it's a RealPlayer document. You are not going to be able to do anything with this - it requires AppleWorks to be present to be updated, and you can't run AppleWorks on Mavericks (other than by the rather roundabout process of installing Snow Leopard Server in Parallels and installing AppleWorks on that, as described here).

PC-cam 850 Image very dark in Yahoo messenger.

Does anyone know how to increase brigthness of the image in yahoo messenger.
I have tried adjustinf brightness in preference but it only becomes completely dark. Only auto works and it is not bright enough.

Yahoo Messenger Help/ or Another Program

Hello All,
I was wondering if you all could help me out. I have been trying to get my iSight working with Yahoo! Messenger but can’t seen to get it up and running.
My sister bought me a iSight so that we could see each other. She has a new computer (PC user) and I am a Mac user. She can see other people on Yahoo but when she views my webcam her side freezes and stops. She can see me for a minute or so. She said she doesn’t have that problem with her PC friends.
Let me tell you all the info I can.
My iMac is a OS X Version 10.3.9
Processor: 1.25 GHz PowerPC G4
Memory: 512 MB DDR SDRAM
My iSight Speed is 400 Mb/sec Speed Firmware Revision:1.0.3
Both My sister and I are using Dial-Up To connect
I turned off my Firewall
In Yahoo-
We both have the newest verisons installed for her (PC) & me (Mac)
Under Webcam:
I have my Video source as iSight (in drop down menu) and Broadcast my webcam with ‘Small Image’, ‘Faster Speed’ selected. For Permissions, I selected my sister to ‘Always allow these people to view my webcam’
I hope that info is enough.
Also I have did a ‘Repair Disk Permissions’. Nothing helped, so I emailed Yahoo and they sent me this message.

I did all that and it seemed to let her see me a little longer but it did the same thing (Freezing and stopping). So I emailed Yahoo again and this is the email I received.

Side Note--- Do I need this BTV application? I do not completely understand why I would need this. Doesn’t it do what the iSight/iChat does? Sorry newbie here.
I thought I would come here and ask if you all could help me out. I know that she can see other PC users (all of them using dial-up) but when it comes to seeing my webcam her program freezes. We can type just fine and I can see her webcam just fine as well.
If there is not a way for us to use Yahoo Messenger, is there another free program out there that will work for both of us. We have tried SightSpeed but that program is way to s...l...o...w. Also we can not use iChat because we just have dial-up.
I really appreciate any and all help.

Messenger question, I was wondering then is there another IM messenger service (Video Chat program *don't know the tech. name*) that both my sister (PC) and myself (Mac) can use? We both use dial-up, we can not get broadband or a faster connection for our computers at this time.

Yahoo Messenger (Sprint Pre): No account button! only one Y! at a time?

I have a Sprint Pre, and I have a Yahoo IM account set up in my Messaging application. Works great, tho sometimes it does take a long time to sign in or needs me to sign out then try signing back in for it to succeed in signing in.
When I go to Accounts and Preferences, and go to the Add Account menu, I only see two buttons, one for adding a google account and one for adding an AIM account.
I'm just checking: should I see an option to add a Yahoo IM account also? or does the fact that I already have one set up mean that I can't add another one, and the button not being there is a reflection of that?
I'm a little nervous in case I ever had to delete the Yahoo IM account or if I ever have to re-setup the account. If I do, will that button be there again?

Yahoo Messenger isn't natively supported on the Palm Pre/Pixi, and all signs point to it not ever happening. This is a known issue and has befuddled Palm users since the device came out. There is yet to be any work-arounds that I'm aware of.
When you say "messaging application", what app are you using specifically?

Web Cam does not work for yahoo messenger

I down loaded a s/w MacCleanse, it kinda deleted a lot of files from my mac book air after which the web cam stopped working on yahoo messenger. I checked Ichat the cam works perfectly but does'nt with messenger. Does any one have a clue on how to fix this..

from my experience, attempting to use two programs that allow the use of the camera will render it unusable on the second program attempting to use it. So, if you started iChat first, then forgot to quit the program, and are now trying to use Yahoo Messenger, then you must quit iChat first and it should work.
Not unless your cam is really broken?

Display picture in messages totally pixelated when seeing it with yahoo messenger for windows

Hello,
I'm using messages to chat with my yahoo messenger account at work and yahoo messenger for windows at home.
When I log into Yahoo with messages, my yahoo display picture is updated automatically with the one I have choose in messages.
My problem is that this picture is totally pixelated when you see it on yahoo messenger for windows. It seems that Messages is changing its size.
As the size in Yahoo messenger for windows is bigger it appears pixelated!
If I choose no display picture in messages, the one I have choose with yahoo messenger for windows disappear when I'm logging with it.
Is there a way that messages do not update the display picture each time I'm logging to Yahoo?
I suppose that there is no solution to this problem but I wanted to be sure.

Thanks for the Path.
This does seem to show all the Recents from the Contacts App > My Card, the Login Pic and the Messages Buddy List pic.
I think in Mountain Lion these were either separate items or the .plist that is in the current place listed the app/location the pic was used.
I have looked at the pictures in the folder (.png and thumbnail .tiffs) and the .plist and it does seem to be all the pics I have used in all three places over the last few months.
The Yahoo account is logged in not through IMAgent that FaceTime and Messages use for other Accounts but from the IMServicePluginAgent.
In Mountain Lion this used to list a Buddy Pic server as well as a straightforward login.
Using Little Snitch I am not seeing that in Mavericks.
Seems you may have to change your Pic on a web page for your Yahoo account.

Prompted to install Yahoo Messenger upon restart even though already installed

I have Yahoo Messenger (3.0.1 beta) installed on my MacBook Air (Lion OS X 10.7.2). It is working fine, however every time I restart my computer and access the Flash Drive (Go - Computer) or the Applications Folder (Go - Applications) I'm prompted to install Yahoo again. I get a Yahoo Messenger installation dialog box asking me to install it. The only way to get rid of this dialog box is to accept the Yahoo agreement and go to the next step for installation - dragging the Yahoo icon into the applications folder. At this stage I can either drag the icon and replace the current one, or just close the drag dialog window. Either way my Yahoo Messenger works fine. If I click the "decline" button the installation dialog box just reappears until I click the "accept" button.
I like to have Yahoo Messenger installed because it allows me to chat with 2 different Yahoo ID's simultaneously - one in iChat and one in Yahoo Messenger.
I contacted Yahoo, but was give this info:
"As of November 15, 2011 Yahoo! Customer Care will no longer provide agent support for Yahoo! Messenger for Mac. If you continue to use this product and have questions or concerns about it, please use the self-service help pages".
This is a brand new computer (and my very first Mac) and Yahoo Messenger was the very first program I installed. Despite the annoyance upon restart I can use both programs (iChat and Yahoo Messenger) together without problems.
I have tried removing all traces of the Yahoo Messenger program using "Appcleaner" and downloaded it again and reinstalled it from scratch, but to no avail.
I would really appreciate some help with this problem.

Ok so the Internal "Drive" on your Mac is a Solid State one ?
You say you put an Shortcut/Alias of it on the Desktop.
Was this by going to the Finder's Own Menu > Preferences > General section and ticking the Box to Show Hard Drives/Disks ?
If I "Open" (double Click) an .dmg to Install something I get an icon on the Desktop that looks like Drive icon (Similar to the USB stick ones) AND I get the item listed as a "Device" (in this case GoogleEarth)
I tend to Drag these to the trash when Finished with them as it "Unmounts"/"ejects" the item. (I used the quotes to show it is a similar action to removing a USB Drive - obviously a CD or DVD would also pop out of the Optical Drive)
Based on the way you describe using the Finder > Go Menu > Computer It get this view
As I Unmount mine I can't really say what happens if I shut the computer down.
As technically it is a Window (the OS sees icons on the Desktop as windows) then I can imagine Lion is Opening it up again if it was there at Shutdown. (See Message at Shutdown about restating open Windows on next boot and also the System Preferences > General Section).
I will try shutting down and will post after I have done that

One more iChat and Yahoo Messenger question

I have been PC user for years, but I only recently saw the light...
I have a MacBook Pro recently updated with Lion. I have everything updated. So, I am trying to communicate with a friend through iChat using Yahoo Messenger. He has a brand new PC.
I can log into iChat using my Yahoo Messenger account. He can do the same. But, even though we can see each other on our Buddy List, and we can text each other, the option "Invite to video chat" is grayed out for me. If he tries to invite me to video response, but I get no notice.
If I have Yahoo Messenger running at the same time, it takes control, and iChat shows me offline. If I turn Yahoo Messenger off, I still have no option to video chat.
I have been through the pages here, but I do not have the experience I had with PC. So, going through and deleting files in a Mac is a little indemidating for me. Can someone welcome me to the fold and walk me through any tips you can think of that may fix my problem? Remember, little baby steps...

There is no "FIx" as such.
All the major IM services that do Video somewhere along the line use different protocols in the connection process or in the actually Video Feed.
iChat uses a Process called Session Initiation Protocol. (SIP)
It does not matter if you have an AIM Buddy list ((One with an AIM valid ID as Lgin details) or a Jabber one or a Yahoo one or even if you enable th Bonjour one if you have other Macs on your LAN it will use this Protocol.
This Protocol is compatible with the AIM Application on PCs
There is a thrdr Party App called Trillian which in it's Pro Version can also Video with iChat.
The other side of the coin is that it will only Video to other iChat Users that have Google/Jabber or Yahoo Names.
By the same token Google run a Jabber Server
Jabber servers use a process called Jingle to do Video
Google however have altered their version and it is not that compatible with other Jabber apss that can Video chat
This includes Google's Standalone App called Google Talk (PC Only), the Browser Plug-ins it produces for Macs (Intels only) and PC and the Chat Option on their Web Pages
Yahoo uses a straight Web Feed for Video and STUN for the Audio chat along side.
STUN is close to SIP but not close enough to allow Audio Connections..
NOTE
iChat has had the Ability to Text chat to any Jabber Buddy including GoogleTalk ones since iChat 3
iChat 3 was nearly 6 years ago and no Jabber Video ability has bee added to the app in all that time.
Any changes are not going to be "in the next Update"

I use [email protected] for e-mail, etc.. I use [email protected] only for messenger/chat.
I have e-mail on my pre configured to login to [email protected] I have messenger configured to login as [email protected]
Whenever I use IM on yahoo, it chats with people as [email protected], but I am logged in as [email protected]

Can't get web cam to work with Yahoo messenger

I can't get my web cam to work with my Yahoo messenger but it opens up with the Cam assistant thats all it will do.
Can someone help me with this problem and get it working with Yahoo messenger?

Before you start MSN disable Camera Assistant Software. When MSN starts try please to check cam functionality under Audio and Video Setup. On step 3 you will have Webcam Setup.
Please select there Chicony USB 2.0 Camera.
The camera should start and in test window you should have picture.

hello, this sounds like the files in your [[Profiles|profile folder]] that store the information about your extensions might have become corrupted. please go to ''firefox > help > troubleshooting information > profile - show folder...'' then windows explorer should open up your profile folder. in there look for the files named extensions.ini, extensions.sqlite, extensions.sqlite-journal (and in some cases also extensions.txt, extensions.rdf). delete or rename those files and quit firefox, they will be regenerated the next time you launch firefox.
