Yahoo messenger/ Aol messenger trouble

I clicked on the download button at the yahoo messenger for mac site, and a "ymsgr2.5.3-osxinstall.bin" downloaded onto the desktop... i click on it and it says there's "no default application specified to open the document". The same thing happens with AOL messenger. Im guessing the installing is supposed to happen by itself and it doesn't seem as though there's an install program being run... not really sure how to fix the prob, but id really like to start IM'in. thx for the help!

You're probably just missing the program, StuffIt Expander, used to expand these compressed files.

Using the latest version of AIM won't work. The PC user MUST be using AIM 5.9 or before or Trillian.
Have you tried connected to the PC AIM Bot listed here: http://www.ralphjohnsuk.dsl.pipex.com/ContactTesters.html (It's my PC auto responder). If you can connect, then it's probably the windows user configuration with the firewall that is preventing you from connecting.

Mail + aol messenger

help please - trial version of mail ran out - enlisted again but had to give new names and passwords, now getting message to input new password ( not accepting ) ?
2nd problem - downloaded aol messenger inputted all info - when click on ichat nothing happens, go to finder and applications - click on aol but my password is not being accepted ? start anew redo names and new password = still not accepted.
not much hair left - before going bald, any help PLEASE

BUT - on the ichat - have used your info and now it looks and starts up BUT now shows DISCONNECTED why - when we click on disconnected it starts
and shows my buddies but VERY quickly goes off and message appears = lost connection with aim then underneath it says - cannot connect to aim

Yahoo and MSN Messenger in iChat

If you can get the Yahoo IM app for Mac to work (It is still in Beta and has been for Years) then it is the only direct way.
Tokbox is a Web Browser Based Chat site that allows you to use your Camera. (It uses the Flash Plug-in)
It has the advantage in that you can link in your existing Buddy Lists.
Mebeam is a less formal site that does similar (Lees the Buddy List Linking)
The MSN App will only Video Chat if you are linked to the correct Microsoft Server (I forget the name exactly)
ProteusX and Adium are both essentially text Based Mac Apps that can join multiple IM Services.
I believe Adium now uses a link to MeBeam to do Video Chats (I have not tested this)

How do I add an iCloud account to my "Messages" if the only options it gives me when I click "Add Account" is Google, Yahoo, and AOL?

I want to add another I cloud account to my Messages, But when I Click add account, the only options it gives me is Gmail, Yahoo, and AOL. But I have an iCloud.com email. What do I do in this case ?

In order to have an iCloud account available for the Messages application it must first be set up in System Preferences > Internet Accounts. If this is a second (or later) iCloud account, it will not have Messages available. See this article for details -

Having trouble with yahoo and the messenger

with yahoo i can't open up my mail . and with the messenger it doesn't show my contacts at all . And it won't let me download the newer messenger

I open up yahoo and my messenger (no the full version) the one you can use in your mail. Now that I have opened I can't close it even though I hit sign out again and again. Please advise.

I am new to using a mac I have an older version. But I have used firefox on my pc before. I downloaded it and went to open messenger. Not the full downloaded messenger but the one you can access when in your mail on yahoo. It opened fine but now it won't close, even though I hit sign out again and again. I have tried force quite, uninstalling and reinstalling and still every time I sign into yahoo on firefox there is my messenger list open. For privacy issues I really need to be able to open and close it.

Yahoo and MSN messenger problems

Hi,
I have a Blackberry Curve 8900, and since I have upgrade MSN and Yahoo messengers to v 2.5.27, I have the same problem with both of them.
When I try to send a picture, I get the message: "Untaught exception: UI engine accessed without holding the event lock" , and I'm logged off automatically.
How can I fix this, or downgrade to the previous version?

MSN, Yahoo and iChat Messenger services don't work...

I have no idea what I may have done to deserve this, but not too long ago, as the subject line says, all three IM services I use stopped working with any degree of consistency: MSN, once in a while (strangely enough mostly in the mornings, but rarely ever in the evenings); iChat, less than MSN; Yahoo, never. I get different messages also. iChat tells me that I "Could not connect to AIM" because "The connection to the host was unexpectedly lost." Yahoo, that "the servers may be undergoing maintenance." MSN, that my password is incorrect or sign-in name doesn't exist, or that the service is unavailable.
Safari and Firefox work fine, as does file-sharing. I've run disk-utility numerous times and everything there is now fine. What else could be going on?

After installing, boot holding down CMD+s, then when the prompt shows, type in...
applejack AUTO
Then let it do all 5 of it's things.
If it doesn't fix it, at least it will eliminate some things.

Wondering if anyone has had this probem, Sounds(alerts) on Yahoo and MSN messengers have both stopped working on my mac. I also run virtual PC on my mac and am getting a message that "Virtual PC is unable to start that Mac audio system a newer version of Mac OS may solve this prioblem". Strange because I am running latest version. Any help would be great. Thanks

Ok If in System Preferences > Sound > Sound Effect tab the volume for sound effects/alerts is on and high enough to hear - then go to your Hard Drive/Library/Preferences and delete com.apple.audio.DeviceSettings.plist

AOL Instant Messenger & MSN Messenger

Can I access AIM & MSN via the iPhone? If so, how?

I suggest you check out the FAQ (http://www.mundu.com/im/iphone/faq.html) but it appears to be a free download. Also, as data is free on O2 for iPhone (UK) users it shouldn't cost a penny to use, although the FAQ does state that it is slow on Edge but no probs on Wifi.

There is not a specific Microsoft Messenger app in the App Store (there's an AOL IM client now, for example). There are 3rd party apps that work with MSN chat servers - here are two (both are direct links to the iTunes Store):

Why won't yahoo or aol load on my mac pro using Comcast

I took my Mac Pro to Apple store today, I told them it was taking forever to open aol.com and yahoo. They able to make it ok faster. I brought it home. I have. Comcast. It still takes forever to open them. Anyone else ever have this problem. Looks like I have to how back to the store.
