Maple_leaf, Palm Pre is the way to go. It is the phone smart, and otherwise, of the future.
I am truly dismayed that MTS or Rogers won't be introducing it into the Winnipeg market in 09 or 2010 because of their existing contractual links with Blackberry.
It appears, from your comments, that Bell Canada has exclusive distribution rights for PalmPre in Canada.
And they're not talking to MTS?
looks like we need to implement a social awakening strategy to get PalmPre supporters to lobby MTS strongly to make the PalmPre inclusive and a choice.
My three year contract with MTS ends in aug.2010 and I won't be renewing it with a Blackberry. I currently use a Moto Q but the MTS data plan sucks,.2mb for $20.00 monthly, just the minimum to get the phone.
The IPhone is too expensive for my budget. I need something that has at least 500 daily minutes monthly with unlimited evgs. and weekends.
Do you know that Bell is charging customers in Ontario for unlimited data monthly? on the palm pre?

Yahoo Messenger (Sprint Pre): No account button! only one Y! at a time?

Hi,
I have a Sprint Pre, and I have a Yahoo IM account set up in my Messaging application. Works great, tho sometimes it does take a long time to sign in or needs me to sign out then try signing back in for it to succeed in signing in.
When I go to Accounts and Preferences, and go to the Add Account menu, I only see two buttons, one for adding a google account and one for adding an AIM account.
I'm just checking: should I see an option to add a Yahoo IM account also? or does the fact that I already have one set up mean that I can't add another one, and the button not being there is a reflection of that?
I'm a little nervous in case I ever had to delete the Yahoo IM account or if I ever have to re-setup the account. If I do, will that button be there again?

Yahoo Messenger isn't natively supported on the Palm Pre/Pixi, and all signs point to it not ever happening. This is a known issue and has befuddled Palm users since the device came out. There is yet to be any work-arounds that I'm aware of.
When you say "messaging application", what app are you using specifically?

I went to add my yahoo account to my pre, only to discover that I can't add yahoo messenger to it. Any way to work around this?

Ok, I got the Yahoo IM working on my phone by adding my Yahoo email account and the phone automatically brought over ALL of my contacts from my Yahoo email account into my phone, set up the IM program and everything worked just fine.
Then I added a second Yahoo email account and found that I can not access the second IM, HOWEVER, I can send messages to the people on the second Yahoo email account because ALL of the contacts from the first and second email accounts are now stored on my phone, so IF I know the exact email and/or name of the contact I can send an IM but the Pre does not show any list of contacts that are online from the second email account.
So, I decided to just delete the second email account (and hopefully all the extra contacts that were unwillingly installed into my phone) and just use the web-based Yahoo IM to access the second email contacts.
Unfortunately, when I deleted the second email account from my phone NONE of the contact information from the second email account was deleted from my phone! (I also deleted the account from the calendar since it does NOT automatically do this for some reason).
I am very un-excited about deleting hundreds of unwanted contacts from my phone one at a time.
1. How can I delete hundreds of contacts without doing it one by one?
2. Can you access multiple Yahoo IM accounts on the Pre? (According to phone support you CAN access multiple IM accounts on Google and AIM).
3. Is there a way to use Yahoo IM without ALL of the contacts from the email account being dumped into my Contacts list and slowing down my phone (search, missed, and all call list) dramatically?

Palm Pre Canada

Hey, Bell just announced they will be the exlusive carrier of the palm pre in canada. That's great and all, but what will happens to the provinces that bell mobility does not operate in (ie. Manitoba), Am i going to have to pay a boat load of money to get the pre contract free off the internet, and will i be able to use the phone with MTS(manitoba cell phone company)? or Telus? I really don't want to have to do this, I don't want to spend alot of money on a cell phone, I may have to wait for the new iphone instead.

I would really love to help you with this question. This is more of a carrier question/ concern. I would recommend contacting Bell and seeing what they can provide to you. Unfortunately, we here at Palm do not have access to coverage areas for wireless carriers.

Palm Pre Default Messenger App - Unable to Login to Yahoo Messenger

I have not been able to sign into yahoo messenger for last several days using palm pre's default messenger app. I can sign into google talk. Anybody experienced this issue? I can log into Yahoo messenger from the mobile.yahoo.com using the palm's web browser. Error I saw was that it could not connect to the server.
I CAN log into Yahoo Messenger via HP TouchPad Messenger App.
what is the yahoo messenger server address that the palm pre messenger app is using? I want to contact yahoo as well if they changed anything on their end...thanks

Bell Canada Palm Pre - Second Class Citizen

I've had my pre for a while now and really enjoy using it. I love the touch screen, I enjoy the multi-tasking abilities and am generally a fan.
Unfortunately I've been made to feel like a second class citizen time and time again from Bell Canada.
I cannot get updates at the same time as my Sprint Brothers and Sisters.
I cannot get an answer as to when this will occur, or why the delay exists on Bell's end.
I cannot purchase applications that I want to use and as such cannot reward publishers and programmers for their hard work, and incent them to continue to create applications for an OS that i think is quite amazing.
In short I feel that Bell mobility has let me down, and in effect let Palm down.
Once my contract is up, i will not renew with Bell.
Hopefully some one else will carry Palm products in Canada and will fully support them.

Well i can agree with this post up to a certain point. Most of the previous Updates were released at the same time as the ones in the states....however this update has improvements for Sprint. So bell has to take the update and switch over there programming to benefit from the features that the update will bring for us. But i do agree that the lack of information given to bell employees about up coming updates is pathetic (Should call support not the bell store). However this will not stop me from using bell. The update is coming. and we will have to be patient about it. I am also against the fact that canadian users can't purchase Apps....and that most of the good apps are submitted for US only....what is the point of even putting it up? U wish palm would hurry up and give us the things they have told us about and stop putting out useless updates that really don;t fix anything. Yes the space limitations are gone...but even after 1.3.5. its still slow and laggy and this is Unacceptable. I should just buy a blackberry!

Can't sync Yahoo calendar with Palm Pre

I've been having a hell of a time trying to get this palm pre up and running. I've tried all sorts of apps to try and get my Palm desktop data onto my phone, but since I never used the Outlook program none of them worked. I've always just operated on the palm desktop. I found one that worked from companionlink, but for some reason when i started using it my phone would restart itself. My last ditch effort to try and keep this phone (and my sanity) was to manually enter all my information into my web acct with yahoo. I already had the account, and my contacts, email, etc is already there. This should be as easy as adding it as an account on my phone, but for some reason it isn't. I've made it the primary account, added it to the phone, added the password, and still when i sync, nothing shows up on the datebook on my phone. it's blank. HELP!!!!

one more thing.....my yahoo email alerts are coming through fine on the phone....i get them all, so there is a connection there. i just can't get my calendar.

I just bought my palm pre yesterday and I realized it doesn't have any I'm apps. Can I download msn messnger or aold on it? Or what can I do?

If you just can't wait until Palm gets their act together, go to Precentral.net.
Over there, you can get a plugin that will provide you with MSN Messenger and several other IM Clients.
It's not a website IM, it's truly incorporated into the Pre.
This is totally unoffical and you will not get support from Palm.
But the people there provide excellent help.
These are the developers that are designing and testing out their beta software before it gets to the Palm App Catalog.
I hope this helps anyone that just can't wait for Palm.

Unlocked Palm Pre 2 from HP Canada?

Wasn't the greatest launch for Palm Pre 2 in Canada - kind of a whimper instead of a roar!
Will it be available unlocked from HP Palm directly soon? The faithful would appreciate a decent price for the holidays too!

the response I got when asked about no love being shown for canadian developers(with respect to the 200 coupon) the response I got was it was due to a system requirement. I'm not sure what that means.
a little irked that the "buy" link on the Canadian palm site points directly to rogers.

Yahoo Mail and Palm Pre

I have been experiencing problems with my paid Yahoo e-mail account.
Over this first week of my Pre, Yahoo and the pre have been getting better. At first, my deleted e-mails were not being deleted from the Yahoo server. Now they are.
Here's my last two problems:
1) I have set my syncing to manual (to try to deal with my battery life issues) and yet the Pre still periodically retrieves my e-mail... Not a big deal, but see #2.
2) Even when I go to Airplane Mode or even turn my phone off, I still get a Yahoo error 5 code when trying to connect to my e-mail via web browser. This error indicates that "some other device has logged into you account and thus e-mail is not accessible now". I need to do that to tag mails as spam or not since the Pre's e-mail app does not support that. I am eventually able to retrieve e-mail through web client on PC. It's as though one or both sides does not release the connection. (I do have a ticket entered at Yahoo).
Any comments would be appreciated...

Load the e-mail app. Press the E-mail menu item in the upper left hand corner. Select Preferences & Accounts. Scroll down to the Accounts section and open your Yahoo account. Scroll down to "Remove Account" and press that. After you remove the account all your e-mails will be deleted from the Pre. I waited a couple of days. I was waiting to her from Yahoo, but never did., Anyway I went through adding the Yahoo account back in ( Load e-mail app, E-mail menu from upper right hand corner, Preferences & Accounts, scroll down to "Add An Account" and enter the data for your Yahoo account. I did NOT have to re-enter all the server (SMTP and IMAP info). It was already there. And yes, you will now "retrieve" from Yahoo all your folders...
Although, I now am experiencing this: I have my sync setting to show 7 days of mail. It used to remove from the Pre the eighth day ago as I went from day 7 into day 8. Now ALL of those e-0mails are staying...

Need info on palm pre

Hi to resume this quickly..my friend gave me her palm pre cause she had broken the lcd screen.
Took a new one replaced it and it works perfect!
Problem is i wanna transfer my old phone to the palm pre and im with rogers i know i gotta jailbreak the Pre to be able to do that,and i dont find the spot to introduce the sim card...after seeing video on youtube i spoted where it is suposed to be but on mine there's a aluminium cover is there a possibility that not all the pre got sim card slot or what !?
Can some1 explain me a easier way to do what i want !? does i really need to pick up my old cellphone's sim card and put it on the Pre(ex cellphone Lg EvE smarthphone)

The Bell Palm Pre is a CDMA phone while Rogers is GSM and unforutnately we currently do not have a GSM Pre in Canada yet. The Palm Pre 2 in Canada is GSM and will be avail soon. Check it out here.

I have a new Palm Pre Plus - can I have more than one Google G-Mail Account on the phone?

I have a general G-Mail account and it has started getting too busy with advertisements etc. I'm thinking about changing to a different e-mail address but don't know what yet.
I have an old Palm Centro I used to Synch with my laptop. Now I need to do this with G-Mail. So I created a unique g-mail account that would only contain my calendar and contact information - i called it "palm.last name" - made sense to me.
When I try to add it to my Palm Pre Plus I am unable to sign in. I'm wondering if you are limited to the number of Gmail e-mail accounts you can have on the phone. If i can only have 1 then I don't want my e-mail to be "palm.last name" and give that out to people - that would not make sense to them.
I already have a Yahoo Account and I'm thinking about another Yahoo Account to keep some e-mails and instant messages separate from my personal Yahoo. If I cannot add more than 1 account, this is going to be a problem.

Hi, and welcome to the Palm Support Community.
You should be able to add your second Gmail account without any problem...I have two Gmail accounts on my Pre and have no difficulties.
When you say you are unable to "sign in", I assume you mean you are unable to sync the email and calendar on your new account? Double-checking your user name and password are the only things that come to mind.

Hello New guy here I have and currently own 2 palm pre PHONES one not working because of the same problem number 1 and 2 are the same let me explain This phone was acting up dots were doing as they choose to do and opening programs at will until it drained the battery then it went away no viruses etc,
anyway i decided to do a full erase of the one phone and it came back saying for me to sign in to my profile i do which is the exact same as my bell profile on the hp website only as i no longer subscribe to bell
((thats a whole new nightmare) and it would take a day to write what i went through with these??? anyway iam trying to get by this stage of the profile sign in because it says i must be connect to my wireless provider to sign in which i haven't been with bell for 5 years now.
anyway i really need help this is not a stolen phone as i have records proving these are mine from day 1 it just bothers me that i cant sign in because bell still wants me to be i guess a part of there SERVICE and i would rather go without any cell phone before i would ever even consider bell in this lifetime even if were free i would still say no way...
anyway any help on this would be very much appreciated i will be around all day here i have tried webos nation but nothing everything is out of date or cant download anything on that site but i have been reading a few things on here and this site seems to be very helpful

I know that with smartphones that are associated with carriers you must first "unlock" the phone to make it work with a different carrier. I don't know if this applies to your situation, but I have worked with Apple phones a lot, and this is always the case with them. So Bell, the people you least want to speak with, may have the answer for you. And if not, then hey! You don't have to talk to them!

Palm Pre for Sprint Data Back Up Problem

I am having issues with data back up with my Palm Pre for Sprint - Palm webOS 1.4.1.1
I have the setting set so "On" so the data is set to back up automatically to my Palm Profile every day, however it has not backed up automatically since June 5th. I just noticed this today (June 17th), and I have tried today to manually back up the data by choosing "Back Up Data Now" button, but the screen just gets hung up indefinitely with a note saying "Preparing" without ever backing the data up.
On a related note, between June 6th & June 10th I took a trip to Canada where my phone was International Roaming - so I can understand why it might not back under those circumstances - but I returned to the US on June 10th and it has not backed up automatically since and it does not appear that it is able to back up manually either.
Has anyone had a similar issue or know what I might do to remedy this?

Palm Pre: Problem with e-mail app

I've had my Palm Pre since release day. I have two e-mail accounts: Yahoo! and a Roadrunner account. I've never had a problem until last Thursday. I didn't change any settings, but all of a sudden my e-mail won't work correctly. SOMETIMES I get the message into the inbox, but the details won't load. If I select the message, the body of the e-mail won't download either. If I delete the "unread" message from my inbox, the number of unread at the top stays the same. I'm flumoxed! It's happening in the combined inbox as well as in both separate inboxes, so I'm pretty sure it's an app problem and not an account issue. I also can't send anything. Its gives me an error message that talks about the Filecache being unaccessible.
I've emptied all my Trash folders and that doesn't help. Any ideas?

Yes I installed it. But it doesn't supports notifications or push-e-mail. And it's just a Java Client.
But I fixed the problem: If you set the number of e-mails to fetch to another number than 50, it will not work. It really confuses me, because it worked without any problems on my 5800 XM and (in the beginning) also on my X6.
I'll report this bug to Nokia.
