Yahoo messenger won't connect with Firefox. How do I fix the proxy settings to get it to work?

Troubleshooting on yahoo messenger says that it had a problem with the HTTP connection. It says to use IE to open tools and then go to internet options to verify my existing settings (proxy server settings). I'm not sure how to do this on Firefox. Thank you in advance.

Try the following solutions and whichever setting works, keep it Permanent:
-> Tap ALT key or press F10 to show the Menu Bar
1) go to Tools Menu -> Options -> Advanced -> Network -> click "Settings..." button infront of Connection -> select option2 -> Click OK -> OK
2) go to Tools Menu -> Options -> Advanced -> Network -> click "Settings..." button infront of Connection -> select option3 -> Click OK -> OK
3) go to Tools Menu -> Options -> Advanced -> Network -> click "Settings..." button infront of Connection -> select option1 -> Click OK -> OK
Check which solution works.

I assume that you have Wireless Security enabled on your AirPort's wireless network. The issue maybe that the PC is unable to use the WPA password itself and will require using the Equivalent Network Password instead.
To get this password, you will use the AirPort Utility from the MacBook:
Start the AirPort Utility > Select the AirPort base station > Manual Setup
Now, before doing anything else, go up to the utility's menu bar at the top of the screen, and then, choose "Base Station," and then, Equivalent Network Password from the drop-down menu. You will see two items: 1) WPA Password, which should look familiar to you, and 2) WPA Pre-Shared Key. It should be a long hexidecimal set of numbers and letters. Jot down this second item.
You will want to use the value you just jotted down when entering the password from the Windows Visa PC.

Turn off wifi. Use wireless signal. reenter password at settings. This should work. Turn wifi back on if you wish. Wait for next occurrence within hours or days. Have not found a permanent preventive solution. Thinking of replacing my four year old wireless router.

I am using HttpURLConnection to establish a HTTP connection . The connection pass through a proxy, and it requires security.
I know that I can set the proxy settings in the system properties, and this works perfect.
But I don't want to set the proxy settings in the system properties, because this proxy settings will be for ALL the URLs, and I just want for a few URLs.
How could I set the proxy settings for just some URLs and not for all?

Neither Firefox nor the profile manager will start. In my task manager, the process is using 50% of my cpu but does nothing. I love browsing with firefox, how can I fix this?

I've tried restarting my computer, the I tried uninstalling and reinstalling, then uninstalling, erasing all firefox files and folders, then restarting and reinstalling. I've also tried opening the profile manager to change my profile. I uninstalled then reinstalled 3.8 twice and it still happened. I installed Beta--no luck. I get the following message:
"The proxy server is refusing connections
Firefox is configured to use a proxy server that is refusing connections."
Changing proxy settings is beyond my expertise. Thank you.

How do I fix the server Error I get saying the server does not recognize the RETR command? I can send but not receive.
