Yahoo News
I'm having an odd problem with Yahoo News @ http://news.yahoo.com/. For some reason it takes forever to load the last 20% of the page, at least by the progress "bar". The page seems to all be there, but what I can't do is roll over the mouse and get the abstract of the article. Works fine in Camino, but not in Safari 2.x or 3.x on Intel or G4. I am using 10.4.10. I don't have any way to test this on an earlier version of the OS. The problem persists in my "test" account with nothing installed account specific. I've emptied the cache, deleted preferences. Not sure what else to try.
Thanks,
Joe

One of their files fails to load. Nothing Safari can do except "wait" for it.
Hit the "Escape" key to stop page loading as soon as the page loading stalls.

Actually, I'm using WaterFox 28.0, but that wasn't an option.
I try to access my comments to Yahoo news stories. I may be in the middle of posting a comment, or just running through them to see how people have responded. WaterFox suddenly interrupts me with a survey about FireFox. It interrupts what I'm doing, and afterward the only way back to the place where I was is to start at the top of the comments again and search for it. If I was posting, either my post is lost entirely, or it posted in incomplete form.
I've tried answering the survey in the hopes that it will go away, but it keeps showing up. It's exceedingly annoying, and, much as I love WaterFox I'm considering going with Chrome or Torch instead.
I have WaterFox set to block pop-ups, but apparently WaterFox doesn't think that applies to itself.
Does ANYONE know how to make this go away?
MargretMinetteYou have a bad extension loaded into Firefox.
*MediaPlayerplus
Remove this by going to > Add-ons > Extensions
Uninstall anything you don't recognize from your control panel. (Start > Control Panel > Uninstall a Program
You will also want to run ADW Cleaner to remove any remnants of the extension

I posted a similar question last week about disabling html5 videos and that seems to have worked. But I notice that when I look at the Yahoo News main page, some videos (thumbnails) are playing automatically as I'm scrolling up and down the page. I find that annoying, distracting, and is probably consuming data on my limited plan.
I see other questions posted about .mp4, but those are all how to PLAY rather than NOT play videos.
Any help would be appreciated. You can look at: Stop Autoplay: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/1765

Very infrequently it will allow the page to open but 90% of the time I get the error message. It also happens if I click on a link to a yahoo news story from another web site. I had tried Firefox 4, but it was giving me all kinds of errors so I reverted back to 3.6

I am trying to stop pages from being able to automatically reload. Sites such as Drudge Report and now Yahoo News anre reloading before I have a chance to read them and it confuses me due to a disability besides just being annoying. I have found the option in tools-advanced-accessibility and checked it but they still reload. And I did close Firefox and restart.
I am using version 3.6.8 Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.2.8) Gecko/20100722
ThanksThe Drudge Report site has a script to reload after 3 minutes:
var timer = setInterval("autoRefresh()", 1000 * 60 * 3);
function autoRefresh(){self.location.reload(true);}
The Yahoo page probably has something similar.
You can try NoScript to see if you can block that refresh.

To many people, this might sound like a Joke when i say Firefox can't play any video on Yahoo News on any Windows 8 Laptop Touchcreen, but trust me, I have tried everything; re-downloading Java, Flash-player, Adobe...etc, I even called Microsoft Support and my Computer company but they all said this is Firefox drama they should be able to fix the issue. Please help. I have three Computers and all can't play any video on Yahoo News, (Youtube is playing great, no issues). Please help.
Is this the problem where it shows the loading icon (circling, circling) but never starts playing? Other users have reported that as well.
This is some standard guidance that addresses the most common issues with the Flash player plugin. I'm sure you've seen some of it before, but just in case:
(1) Make sure all recorders/downloaders that interact with Flash media are as up-to-date as possible, or disable them.
(2) Disable hardware graphics acceleration in Firefox and in Flash
(A) In Firefox, un-check the box here and restart:
orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced > General > "Use hardware acceleration when available"
(B) In Flash, see this support article from Adobe: http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/video-playback-issues.html#main_Solve_video_playback_issues
(3) Disable protected mode (Windows Vista/7/8)
See this support article from Adobe under the heading "Last Resort": Adobe Forums: How do I troubleshoot Flash Player's protected mode for Firefox?
Since you mentioned touch, does it matter whether you interact with the player using the mouse or your finger? -
Almost a year ago...Safari still can't do Yahoo News Video
I posted a note almost a year ago trying to get help on getting Safari to play news video from Yahoo. Well looks like Safari hasn't improved much. I tried viewing this news video from Yahoo and nothing play. Has anyone had any luck whatsover to get news video to play from news.yahoo.com?
javascript:void(window.open('http://cosmos.bcst.yahoo.com/up/news;ylt=AlCXpJH3._Iv9nVSK1sfbrCs0NUE;ylu=X3oDMTA2Z2szazkxBHNlYwN0bQ--?ch=49799&cl=625463&lang=en','playerWindow','wid th=793,height=608,scrollbars=no'));The closest experience you'll have to watching any of the Yahoo News videos or Yahoo Tech shows is pathetic at best. But you asked, so I will tell.
First, you need to get a few things. They are:
1) Fire Fox web browser ( http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/ )
2) Stuff It expander ( http://www.stuffit.com/mac/index.html ) Get the free version.
3) Windows Media Player ( http://www.microsoft.com/mac/downloads.aspx?pid=download&location=/mac/download/ misc/winmp_osx.xml&secid=80&ssid=8&flgnosysreq=True )
You'll need to download Stuff It Expander BEFORE you download WMP
If you have that stuff, good! If not, get and install them. Once that's done you'll have to force Fire Fox to run under Rosetta. This is how...
Finder>Applications>Fire Fox If you have your Finder configured to show your stuff in columns, then click the More Info button or you can just ctrl (control) click the Fire Fox icon and select Get Info. Under the General section there should be a check box with the words "Open Under Rosetta" next to it. Click the box and close the window. Open Fire Fox (you may wanna open WMP for the first time before you try to watch your web video) and go to Yahoo. Watch your video.
BE WARNED... both WMP and Fire Fox run under Rosetta and will be very RAM intensive. I have 2 GB's of RAM and watching videos is still a pain because of all of the skips and lags. You'll hear them talking, but the video will jump and skip about at random.
Well, Why bother? Don't. I suggest waiting for the official release of the Universal Binary Flip4Mac. If you can't wait, you can always search the boards and see if someone has an active link to get the Beta version.
To be honest, I can't just up and leave Yahoo. They are my primary email service. Videos aren't the only problem. A lot of their downloadable games are PC only. As long as I can check my mail, then I'll be alright. -
When I sign out of e-mail, go to yahoo news, and select an article to read, The sidebar will not go up and down to read the article and the timer comes on for quite some time. The message "mozilla firefox not responding. This has been going on for quite some time. Thank you
hello, please try if you can resolve the issue by resetting firefox (this will keep your bookmarks & passwords): Reset Firefox – easily fix most problems

Yahoo news pages show up in quadruplicate in the back/forward button
When navigating through the news pages at yahoo, a single click on an article will bring up a new page, but if one tries to use the back button to return to the previous page nothing happens. Looking at the back button pulldown, there are four copies of the page. This happens for every page I click on at yahoo news. What seems to be happening is that, the page loads, then suddenly reloads, creating three new versions in the history, and the reload is very quick upon the initial version loading. This doesn't happen with other websites.
Just put the little arrow back into the system. Fix this now. I don't want 2 other options. Get this right for "nontech" people.

There is a bright flashing light over my tool bar and sometimes a flashing black box appears over the Yahoo news. I tried Reset Firefox and that didn't work. I then uninstalled and re-installed Firefox and I still have the seizure inducing flashing lights.
When I switch to Internet Explorer I do NOT have this problem. Please help me because I do not want to go back to IE.
ThanksIn case this is caused by Firefox 33 being incompatible with your graphics card/chipset driver software, could you test for a while in Firefox's Safe Mode? That's a standard diagnostic tool to deactivate extensions, hardware acceleration, and some other advanced features of Firefox. More info: Troubleshoot Firefox issues using Safe Mode.
You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using either:
* "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
* Help menu > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
Not all add-ons are disabled: Flash and other plugins still run
After Firefox shuts down, a small dialog should appear. Click "Start in Safe Mode" (not Reset).
Any difference?
You can disable hardware acceleration for all modes in the Options dialog.
"3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced
On the "General" mini-tab, uncheck the box for "Use hardware acceleration when available"
This takes effect the next time you exit Firefox and start it up again. -
It happens only in Firefox, not explorer. When I click on a yahoo news article, it displays for a few seconds and then goes to a blank screen. I've run virus scans, eliminated all cookies, all to no avail.
This happened
Not sure how often
== I'm not sureStart Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
See Troubleshooting extensions and themes and Troubleshooting plugins
If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all your extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
You can use "Disable all add-ons" on the Safe mode start window to disable all extensions.
You have to close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit") -
Firefox after updating to 37.0.1 doesn't play yahoo news videos ?
After updating to 37.0.1 yahoo news videos are not playing. Youtube/msn videos are working. It did not have this issue before this 37.0.1 update. I tried deleting history, cache etc. completely but it did not help.
I tried the steps described in
Firefox after updating to 37.0.1 doesn't play youtube videos.
https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1055848
I did reset firefox. It started working but annoyed with pop-up adds. I installed Ad Blocker. It stopped working.
It look like Firefox 37.0.1 does not like some of the add_ons/plugins installed on previous version.
How do I block pop_up adds, malware, tracking etc in Firefox 37.0.1 ?
Why does some videos are working and other are not?
Thanks for helping.Does it make a difference if you use a Flash based player or a HTML5 media player?
Are you using the HTML5 media player or the default (Flash based) player?
