Yahoo search has no link to news results

I tried to like new Yahoo search, but I like to search for news, and Yahoo result page has no clickable link taking me to news results.
I know normal Yahoo search has this, why is Firefox customized Yahoo results lacking of this?
Back to Bing for now.

My search page from Yahoo has a news link
* https://uk.search.yahoo.com/search?p=hi&ei=UTF-8
**https://uk.news.yahoo.com/
* Generic links search.yahoo.com & news.yahoo.com
Possibly you are just looking at the Firefox homepage about:home or the newtab page about:newtab Feel free to bookmark such pages or set them as a homepage {If you set multiple homepages, multiple tabs open) or newtab page.
* [[Startup, home page and download settings]]
* [[New Tab Page – show, hide and customize top sites]]
I am aware Yahoo has previously made available a Yahoo toolbar but it appears at present that is broken and being worked on by Yahoo[https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/forums/contributors/711130 .] The toolbar will apparently only work in outdated unsafe Firefox versions.

  • AVG/Yahoo Search has taken over my new tab, how can I reset it?

    I opened Firefox today and my "new tab" is suddenly AVG/Yahoo Search. I'm the only person who uses this computer and I never OK'd it. I normally have it either at a blank tab or the website thumbnails. There is a button ON the search page that says you can disable it and it'll be back to normal when you restart Firefox. That didn't work, seems to be a lie. I've tried about:config, didn't work. I tried resetting Firefox through default reset, didn't work. I tried disabling AVG search through add-ons, didn't work. I'm not a computer whiz but I'm not a novice either, I'm usually able to figure these things out and have done so in the past but this is not going away. It certainly makes me distrust AVG if it's weaseling things in beyond my approval, and it's making me annoyed with Firefox and I'm wanting to switch to Chrome. Please let me know how I can fix this. Thanks.

    Hi franontheedge, when you revert to a restore point, you may roll back your Firefox further than desired, for example, losing recently added bookmarks or saved passwords. It might be preferable to clean out the unwanted software by hand. If you have 10 minutes...
    I suggest:
    (1) Open the Windows '''Control Panel''', Uninstall a Program (or for XP Add/Remove Programs). After the list loads, click the "Installed on" column heading to group the infections, I mean, additions, by date. This can help in smoking out undisclosed bundle items that snuck in with some software you agreed to install. Take out as much trash as possible here.
    (2) open the '''Add-ons page''' using either:
    * Ctrl+Shift+a
    * "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
    In the left column, click Plugins. Set nonessential and unrecognized plugins to "Never Activate".
    In the left column, click Extensions. Then, if in doubt, disable (or Remove, if possible) unrecognized and unwanted extensions.
    Often a link will appear above at least one disabled extension to restart Firefox. You can complete your work on the tab and click one of the links as the last step.
    (3) With the above removed, you can update your home page if it's not already back to normal. These articles have more details on how:

  • Searching Mail Doesn't Show New Results

    I am having a problem with Mail not showing recent emails in search results.  For example, an online store that I purchase from regularly uses its name in both the subject line of the email and in their email address.  When I reach for the company name, no results more current than mid-March are shown.  Outside of Mail, Spotlight seems to be working perfectly, with documents I have created in the past few days showing up in searches.  I am running 10.8.3 and am using a icloud/mobileme/.mac email address.
    Thanks!

    Quit Mail.
    Back up all data. That means you know you can restore the Mail database, no matter what happens.
    Triple-click the text on the line below to select it:
    ~/Library/Mail/V2/MailData/Envelope Index
    Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C). In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
    from the menu bar. Paste into the box that opens (command-V), then press return.
    A Finder window will open with a file selected. Move the selected file to the Desktop, leaving the window open. Other files in the folder may have names that begin with "Envelope Index". Move those files, if any, to the Trash. Relaunch Mail. It should prompt you to re-import your messages. You may get a warning that the index is corrupt and that Mail has to quit. Click OK.
    Test. If Mail now works as expected, you can delete the file you moved to the Desktop. If you get a warning that the file is in use when you try to empty the Trash, log out and log back in.

    How to clean out cookies on iPad my yahoo search will not find any new search

    You can clear Safari's cache and cookes via Settings > Safari > Clear Cookies And Data and also Clear History.
    You may also need to close Safari via the taskbar and then re-open it for your previous searches to disappear from the search box : from the home screen (i.e. not with Safari 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Safari app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.

  • Yahoo Search Links Opening in New Windows Instead of Existing Window

    This literally happened withn the last hour. I've done some Yahoo searches, and when I click the link, instead of opening it in the existing window like it always does, it opens the links in new windows.
    Is this something I did inadvertendly? How can I fix this? I don't want to have to right click to open in a new tab in the same window.

    Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
    * Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
    * https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Safe+Mode
    * [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]]
    If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
    * Use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions.
    * Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")
    In Firefox 4 you can use one of these to start in <u>[[Safe mode]]</u>:
    * Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
    * Hold down the Shift key while double clicking the Firefox desktop shortcut (Windows)

  • Yahoo search results problem

    We have two BM servers here. Older one Netware 6 sp5 w/ BM 3.7 sp3 that works well. A replacement that I have had up but not currently using much Netware 6.5 SP8 w/ BM 3.8 sp5. The latter one has a problem with Yahoo search results. If I point a workstation to the older NW6 BM it works fine in Bing, Google & Yahoo. If I point it to the NW6.5 BM then it will work fine in Bing and Google but in Yahoo it will return the results but when you click on any link there I get this message:

    The requested URL was not found on this server.
    Please check the URL for proper spelling and capitalization. If you're having trouble locating a destination on Yahoo!, try visiting the Yahoo! home page or look through a list of Yahoo!'s online services. Also, you may find what you're looking for if you try searching below.
    Any ideas? I have no access rules enforced. Anything that might be of help would be greatly appreciated.....Thank you!

    I think this probably should be moved to the proxy portion of the forum - I am going to close this and start a new thread there. Sorry.....

  • When opening a new tab, there is a Yahoo search screen showing rather than an empty tab and I would like to shut it off, how do I do this? thanks

    somewhere on updating, I picked up a yahoo toolbar, which I did not like. One of the tasks it performed was to bring up a yahoo search and news box when opening a new tab every time. I have not been able to uninstall it or shut it off, Any ideas where to start. When opening the new tab, it starts at "click,w3i.com" and then goes to "search.yahoo.com" and has some trending searches and latest news, My network is slow enough with out waiting for all these things to pass. Any idea how to eliminate it or shut it off. It is not listed in tool bars or options or add-ons or plugins or anything. below are the two links the tab goes through, they are listed in reverse order. Thanks for the help. Have a great day.

    Yes it was an add on called net assistant by freeze.com and I have found that, disabled it and intend to uninstall it, it must of come in with something else, I did not down load it specifically. Thanks

  • Cannot open Yahoo searches in a new tab

    When I do a Yahoo search and attempt to open a search result in a new tab, I get "You have chosen to open and application/octet-stream" and it opens an "Untitled" tab.
    I can avoid this error by simply clicking on the search result in the same window.
    This has just started in the past two days and is generally Yahoo specific. I don't have this problem with Google, but I don't normally use Google.
    Similar Mozilla error have been reported in the past, but not exactly like this error.
    No recent or significant changes in my OS or PC configuration

    In my case it was the greasemonkey addon. Once i've desable it, everything went right. Thanks for that hint!

  • New Yahoo Search Changes

    I have always used Yahoo search; while Firefox had Google as the default, I would change it to Yahoo. I would sometimes try google but one of the things that annoyed me with Google was if you clicked on a link, that link would, by default, open on the same page forcing you to "go back" to see the list again. With Yahoo OTOH clicking on a link would always open in a new tab allowing me to more easily go back and forth between selected links.
    Yes I know I can right click and open in a new tab but is there any way to get the old default behavior back where a normal left click on the Yahoo search results open in a new tab ? I have a condition which affects my right hand and using the right click button can sometimes be gets cumbersome at times.

    It didn't work at first, but eventually got there.
    1. Your screenshot shows the method of selecting Yahoo as the default search provider. There is no option to "remove". I select Firefox Help and underneath uncheck Yahoo and all other providers and then set it as default.
    2. I then go to search.yahoo.com and try a search. It does work the way I wanted.... for whatever reason it wouldn't yesterday.
    3. I go to Go to http://mycroftproject.com/yahoo-search-plugins.html , scrolled down to 16. Major Engines , Yahoo! en-WW (search.yahoo.com) by Denny Kluge. This was what I had to do when Firefox 1st changed the default to Google.
    4. I added it and had two Yahoo's in the list, I checked the 2nd one. Add something in the search windows, hit the down arrow and elected Yahoo to search with. It didn't work, same behavior as before.
    5. I then changed to selecting Yahoo again as the default.
    6. Now here's the weird part .....
    a) With Yahoo selected as the default and letting it work as the default, it works as desired.
    b) With Yahoo selected as the default, but using the Yahoo selection as an option, it doesn't work.
    I have since unchecked the Yahoo box in the list of "alternate search engines to display " while leaving it selected as the default selection. It's worked 3 times so far; hopefully it survives a close and reopen :)
    Muchos Grassyass. I dreaded trying to find the mycroft site again as it took me quite a while the last time.

    1. Verify that you use the same proxy.cfg on both servers and the same
    settings like persistent connections.
    2. Compare both traces, the working one and the non working one. See if
    the returned link from yahoo is the same on both traces and it is coming
    from the same server. You may have another firewall/router up in the
    path causing the issue.
    3. Before taking the lan traces on the netware server using pktscan.nlm,
    unload proxy, load proxy -cc to clear cache. Then take the traces and
    see at what point the non working one differs from the working one.
    check that info is coming from the same up server

  • Yahoo Search Images Links

    I've used Yahoo as my preferred search engine for a few years.  Suddenly, when searching for images, I am unable to open links associated with search results.  For example, at http://search.yahoo.com/, enter the name of any athlete or celebrity.  When you get the search results click Images in the menu on the left side.  Now you'll see lots of pictures of the person you searched for. (It can be any search image, not just people.)  Now click on any image and a page with that image opens and has a link to the source website.  When I click on that link, nothing happens.  This problem also occurs with saved image searches I've added to my Favorites.  I have no problem with search results that are not images.
    This only happens with Yahoo, not Google or Bing.  I checked my Yahoo settings and everything was fine.  I checked Yahoo help and online forums but found nothing about this.  I asked a question in Yahoo help but as far as I can tell they mostly don't respond to help questions and haven't responded to mine (3 days).
    I ran a full system scan with my Norton Internet Security but it found nothing.  I ran Malwarebytes Antimalware but it also found nothing.  I checked IE add-ons but I recognized all of them and found nothing unusual.  I did a System Restore to a point preceding the problem but it didn't help.  I haven't installed any programs for many months.  I can't figure it out.
    Satellite A665-S6086, Windows 7 Home Premium 64, IE 11.  All updates current.

    Peter,
    That's correct, it's the link at the bottom left corner.  I've found an odd work-around.  Once you're on that page, if you click on the left or right arrows next to the image then arrow back again, the link will work.  Strange, huh?
    I've also discovered I have another problem - perhaps it's related or perhaps I'll find that it's addressed in another thread here.  Specifically, on many shopping websites (and others) there are sometimes thumbnail views of a product below the main image and when you click on one, it's supposed to become the main image.  Here's an example for a living room furniture set at Costco:
    http://www.costco.com/Clifton-3-piece-Fabric-Set.product.100022895.html#
    Now try clicking on one of the small thumbnails below the main photograph.  When I do it nothing happens, and it's the same for many websites with that type of arrangement.  I'm not sure if it's the website, my machine or my machine's owner!
    Cheers and thanks.
    Joe

  • "Open link in new tab" not working with Safari and new Yahoo Mail won't open in new tabs.  Yahoo says it is a Safari issue.  I don't think so.

    Any ideas?
    Works fine in classic Yahoo mail.  But in the "new" Yahoo mail, there is not even an option to open in new tab when I right click the message to be opened.  Interestingly enough, I can right click open to new tab on any other link on the same page that the emails are listed in.
    Anyone encounter this?  Have a solution?
    Thanks.

    From your Safari menu bar click Safari / Reset Safari. Select the top 7 buttons, click Reset.
    If that didn't help, try troubleshooting the Safari .plist file.
    Quit Safari.
    Open a Finder window. Select your Home Folder in the Sidebar on the left. It has a small house icon. Then open the Library folder then the Preferences folder.
    Move the com.apple.Safari.plist file from the Preferences folder to the Desktop. Relaunch Safari. Try Yahoo / tabs. If it functions as it should, move the .plist file to the Trash. Otherwise move it back to the Preferences folder.
    And check Safari / Preferences - Extensions. If you have any installed, turn that off, quit then relaunch Safari. Try again.

  • How do I get rid of Yahoo search from starting in the creation of a new tab?

    my home page works correctly and I have removed the Yahoo tool bar from plugins/apps (can't remember which) But whenever I open a new tab it opens on this
    http://search.yahoo.com/?fr=freeze&type=W3i_NA,132,3_6,Tab%20Search,20110520,16934,0,19,0
    I would like it to open on my home page, which firefox does on startup. But I can't find a setting in options that will allow you to dictate what first appears when opening a new tab.
    I tried this solution but it didn't work
    https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/questions/811550?s=getting+rid+of+yahoo+search&as=s

    Do you also have a search bar on your tabs bar if so, it is probably "New Tab" extension, but suggest going through all of the following.
    '''Remove the Yahoo Toolbar'''
    # "Ctrl+Shift+A" (Add-ons Manager)
    # Select Puzzle piece on left-side for Extensions List
    # Find "Yahoo Toolbar" and click on "Uninstall" button, and restart Firefox. ''(if you really need to keep the Yahoo toolbar, you can hide the toolbar instead with customize, and still change all the search defaults as below)''
    '''Then to fix the default search engine''' used at the Location Bar, change the value of '''keyword.URL''' in '''about:config''' to one of the values shown in [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Location_Bar_search#Location_Bar_search_.28external_-_search_engine.29 Location Bar search] at MozillaZine.
    * Google Search (Google search results page)<br>'''http://www.google.com/search?ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q='''
    # type in '''about:config''' into the location bar (in a new tab)
    # if the warning message nonsense comes up ''uncheck'' the box '''before''' dismissing the dialog message
    # '''filter on keyword'''
    # right-click on '''keyword.URL''' and choose "modify" then paste in the Google search engine string of your choice.
    # '''filter on defaulturl'''
    # right-click on '''browser.search.defaulturl''' ''(if it exists)''and again choose "modify" then paste in the Google search engine string of your choice.
    # '''filter on ytff'''
    # right-click on '''yahoo.ytff.search.popup_src''' ''(if it exists)'' and again choose "modify" then paste in the Google search engine string of your choice, if adventurous might see if "reset" would remove and see if gone in next session (well not for those keeping the extension).<br

    A new tab opens by default as a blank tab (about:blank).
    If that isn't the case then an extension has changed that behavior.
    * https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Troubleshooting+extensions+and+themes
    You can middle-click or hold down Ctrl and left-click the Home button on the Navigation toolbar to open the Home page in a new tab.
    You can look at this extension to set which page to open in a new tab:
    * NewTabURL : https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/newtaburl/
