Yahoo Search Links Opening in New Windows Instead of Existing Window

This literally happened withn the last hour. I've done some Yahoo searches, and when I click the link, instead of opening it in the existing window like it always does, it opens the links in new windows.
Is this something I did inadvertendly? How can I fix this? I don't want to have to right click to open in a new tab in the same window.

Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
* Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
* https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Safe+Mode
* [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]]
If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
* Use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions.
* Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")
In Firefox 4 you can use one of these to start in <u>[[Safe mode]]</u>:
* Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
* Hold down the Shift key while double clicking the Firefox desktop shortcut (Windows)

  • How do I change the website that Firefox automatically defaults to (Yahoo search) when opening a new tab?

    Whenever I open a new tab, the new tab opens to a yahoo search page. It used to open to just a blank tab and changed somehow. I've been unsuccessful at changing it back.

  • Links opening in new window instead of new tab

    I'm running Safari Windows 4.0.4. I would like to use multiple tabs within one browser window. However, while in one tab, if I click on a link, it opens a new Safari window. I want it to open another tab. I have the "open links from applications" set to open in new tab, however, I can't find a setting for opening a new tab within sarafi itself. I hate that it opens a new window. Anyone point me in the right direction so that it opens a new tab in the same window?

    Is there a way, then, that the Safari team could add an option to the General tab that would default the click-on-link behavior to be the same as CTRL-click? I'm certain that adding such a feature would be insanely easy?
    Great browser Apple ... really like it; but could you please fix this in a service-pack soon?
    Thanks!

  • How can I make "Open Link in New Tab" open the new tab in the same window, not a different window?

    When I Ctrl-click a link and choose "Open Link in New Tab" it chooses to open the new tab in a different window (one that's already open) rather than opening the new tab in the same window. Even though the other window is minimized, it automatically gets restored and placed on top of the window I was in. This interferes with my context, forcing me to minimize the window again to get back to the one I was in before. I want the new tab to open in the same window, so I can still see the tab I was in. Some links seem to have the "Open Link in New Tab" behavior automatically, so I never know when I'm going to get thrown out of my current window. Very annoying.

    If you have a mouse with a scroll button then try to middle click the link to open the link in a new tab.
    It is also possible that the links use onclick JavaScript instead of a href to specify the action.

  • In Firefox 7.0.1, sometimes link opens in another open window instead of current window.

    MacBook OS X 10.5.8
    Working at Distributed Proofreading [DP] and at DPCanada.
    When trying to begin proofreading from Project Page in new tab using Command-click, link opens in new tab on a different, minimized page instead of in new tab in current window. Of course, that window becomes the current page.
    In Safari, this misbehavior does not occur.
    I think I've been able to overcome this by "right" clicking and choosing open in new tab, but I'm not sure it always works and cannot test it now until I send this, apparently.

    Tweeking network.http.max-connections doesn't work, mine was already set to 48 and Firefox freezes on me for 1-2 minutes hundreds of times a day.
    This silence from Firefox support is just inexcusable. I'm at my wits end, after being a loyal Netscape/Mozilla/Firefox user since 1994, I'm thinking about leaving for Chrome.

  • How to make link open in new TAB and not new window

    Mac users can do the following...
    http://www.switchingtomac.com/tutorials/how-to-force-safari-4-to-open-links-in-a -new-tab-instead-of-a-new-window/
    how can this be done for WIndows users?
    Using Safari 4.0

    I'm not totally sure what you mean, because unless you are talking about not having to right-click a link first, that is prasisly what I do. the link you provided I just right clicked it & clicked on "open in new tab" ,& that's what it did.
    - But now because that was so easy to answer, I can only assume you mean not actually having-to right-click a link to open it up in a new tab. ,hope this helped.

  • Why does ctrl+Left click a link open a new window? It should open a new tab in the current window.

    When I try to Ctrl+Left click to open a link in a new tab, it will open it in a new window instead. Then while in the new window if I Ctrl+Left click a link it will open a new tab in the second window. If I then go back to the first Firefox window and Ctrl+Left click a link the second firefox window will pop up and the new tab will be created there. Why won't the Ctrl+Left click work when only one window is open?

    Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

  • Why do links open in new windows, not tabs, even when that option is selected?

    Since update to v. 6 and now 7.01, clicking on links opens a new instance of Firefox instead of a new tab. In Tools\Options\Tabs. I have selected "open new window in tab instead" and it has no effect.
    What am I missing?
    Thanks in advance!!

    Thanks for the post. Unfortunately, while running in FF in safe mode may be doing the trick and thus implies an extension (though not necessarily), I haven't added any new extensions. So it is likely a problem introduced by FF since v. 6 or so. I suppose it could be that the extensions themselves need updating by their creators.
    Regardless it is all very time-consuming and frustrating, especially for something that one would think would be readily fixable.

  • Unwanted yahoo search when open new tab, can't remove it.

    I have picked up yahoo search and it won't remove. doesn't appear in add ons or toolbars or programs on computer or in registry. I deleted and reloaded firefox and its still there.
    yahoo is not in my search engines.

    So, if I understand correctly, when you open a new tab, instead of being blank, it's the yahoo search page?
    If that is the case, try this set of instructions and see if it fixes the problem:

  • Universal Worklist items open in new window instead of existing frame

    After our recent upgrade we noticed that workitems in Universal Worklist open in new window instead of existing frame.  Do you know if there is a system or universal setting to make all the workitems open in existing frame?  I know we can change the settings for parameters launchInNewWindow and openInNewWindow to "no" in XML files to fix this.   However, my concern is that I would need to do this for each and every task we use.  (still doable but wondering if there is simpler solution)
    Example:
        <ItemType name="uwl.task.webflow.TS12300097.SAP_R3_CUSTOM_DEV" connector="WebFlowConnector" defaultView="DefaultView" defaultAction="launchWebDynPro" executionMode="default">
          <ItemTypeCriteria systemId="SAP_R3_CUSTOM_DEV" externalType="TS12300097" connector="WebFlowConnector"/>
          <Actions>
            <Action name="launchWebDynPro" groupAction="" handler="SAPWebDynproLauncher" returnToDetailViewAllowed="yes" launchInNewWindow="yes" launchNewWindowFeatures="resizable=yes,scrollbars=yes,status=yes,toolbar=no,menubar=no,location=no,directories=no">
              <Properties>
                <Property name="WebDynproApplication" value="LeaveRequestApprover"/>
                <Property name="WebDynproDeployableObject" value="sap.com/ess~lea"/>
                <Property name="newWindowFeatures" value="resizable=yes,scrollbars=yes,status=yes,toolbar=no,menubar=no,location=no,directories=no"/>
                <Property name="openInNewWindow" value="yes"/>
                <Property name="display_order_priority" value="5"/>
              </Properties>
              <Descriptions default=""/>
            </Action>
          </Actions>
        </ItemType>

    We downloaded uwl.standard.xml from UWL admin.  Made a copy and renamed file.  Changed all "launchInNewWindow" from "yes" to "no".  Uploaded new file in UWL admin.  Re-registered systems, cleared cache.  Not sure what exact line changed the behavior but the workitems no longer open in new window.
    We are still experimenting with file in our sandbox environment.

  • Search results open a new window

    Hi,
    I am using SES 10.1.8.3.
    By default, the search results open a new window.
    # configure whether search results open in a new window
    ses.qapp.results.new_window=true
    But, i want only the documents (doc,pdf...etc) only open a new window. The pages are no need open a new window. Is it possible? How will do this?
    Thanks!

    Hi,
    You can modify the XSLT to achieve the result.
    In that file check for the file types and decide to open it in a new window or not.
    Regards

  • Why Are Pages Opening in New Tabs Instead of Within the Pages?

    Up until I upgraded to 10.1.10, tabs would almost always open in the same page as the link that contained it. If I wanted it to open in a new tab, or window, I can do that myself, using a menu. Now, it opens many more tabs than I need open, and only clutters up the screen, & adds more RAM usage to the already lumbering browser. Why is this happening, and is there any way to correct this?

    No, cause it happens on many sites. I don't see what makes it do that for most, but then once in a while, it will open over the current page, like it almost always did before. I know it does this when I click a link from any Google search results page, which I don't recall it doing before. Up till now (5.1.10), there was always a preference setting where I could select links opening in new tabs, or not. Now, they open wherever they choose to, usually in new tabs, but sometimes not....
    Here's my options:
    "Open pages in tabs instead of windows:
    Some links on webpages open in new Safari windows instead of replacing the current webpage. Choose Never to have such links open in new Safari windows instead of tabs. Choose Always to open new tabs instead of windows.
    Choose Automatically to have Safari open pages in tabs unless they’re designed to fit in specially formatted separate windows; Safari opens those pages in windows instead."
    So, none of these choices allow for pages to replace current webpages, which makes no sense.

  • When entering a new website it overrides the previous site, how can i get it to open a new tab instead

    I DON'T KNOW THAT THIS IS A PROBLEM, I JUST THOUGHT THAT IF THERE IS A WAY TO OPEN A NEW TAB EACH TIME YOU ENTER A NEW WEBSITE WITHOUT OVERRIDING THE PREVIOUS ONE. YOU WOULDN'T HAVE TO REMEMBER TO ENTER THE PLUS SIGN EACH TIME YOU WANT TO OPEN A NEW WEBSITE.

    The setting in Tools > Options > Tabs: "New pages should be opened in": "a new tab/window" is for links that specify a target window to open the link.
    That option allows to divert such links to a new tab instead of a new window.
    For links that do not specify a target use a middle-click or hold down Ctrl and left-click the link or use the right-click context menu to open the link in a new tab or window.<br />
    Left-click a JavaScript link to avoid getting a blank tab.

  • Opening a new URL in an existing browser window from a Java application

    I've tried one of the many codes to open a new browser window and it works, but I need something else.
    Is there any way to open a new URL on the same window on a Java desktop application? (Changing the URL on the current browser window without opening a new one, I mean).

    You can do that by using an add-on such as:
    * NewTabURL - https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/newtaburl
    * New Tab Homepage - https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/new-tab-homepage
    Another way of opening the home page in a new tab is to middle click on the home button in the navigation toolbar.
