Yahoo sync read only?

Why is Yahoo sync read only?  That was the whole reason I've been waiting for 1.3.1 update.  I use Yahoo for email, contacts, and calendar events, and one way contact listing is worthless for me (I want my contacts stored and viewable online, and being tied to my email is important).
Is this a temporary measure or is this pretty much a "lol switch to google" message?

I have to admit, like kalldrexx I'm disappointed with this as well.  My story is the same:  yahoo has always all of my contacts and is my primary e-mail provider.  Without two-way sync, it's the difference between looking at a hot car and driving a hot car.
What exascerbates the issue for me is I've an outstanding open ticket with Palm where their backup servers mistakenly created a new Palm Profile for me under the same e-mail address my Pre is registered to, and I've lost about 120ish contacts - until they can somehow fix it.  Yeah, having one-way yahoo sync helped fix some of that, my Pre is more up to date than Yahoo was and now I'm doubling up on effort to update Yahoo with what little my brain can remember.

  • Yahoo contacts read-only?

Is there no real "sync" with Yahoo contacts in 1.3.1?  In other words, is it a 1-way "pull" from Yahoo?  The release notes don't specifically say it is read-only, but they do say "download contacts from Yahoo".  If so, can anyone say if that's temporary?  I really wish I'd known that before I went to the trouble of merging all my Yahoo and Google contacts?  I only created a Google account because yahoo wasn't available at launch -- I've had yahoo email for years and my contacts were already there and in Outlook.

Yahoo contacts being read only is an issue that does require resolution but I have also been experiencing long delays for updates on my phone.  My Yahoo Contacts once updated take over 24 hours to sync with the phone even though I force a sync from the phone.  I have only changed to using Yahoo since I updated to 1.4 so I do not know if this was an issue earlier.  I used gmail previously but my dominant personal email account has been with Yahoo for over 15 years so keeping my contacts up to date in one location was much easier this way.
Has anyone had this problem?  I have already done the "delete the Yahoo account" and load again after shutting down the phone.  problem persists.
    Thanks

  • Creating read-only calendars for syncing

How can I create a read-only or protected calendar?
Is it possible to create a calendar which, after syncing with the family computer, would be read-only, protected or non-editable, by the family computer user?
    Thank you,
    cj

You're mixing metaphors here: 'publish and subscribe' and 'synchronize' are two independent processes. You can do both, but most users generally limit sharing calendar information to one or the other.
Publication creates a read-only, public object to which others can subscribe if they know your calendar URL. Calendars can be published on .Mac or on a private WebDAV server.
Synchronization allows the sharing of calendar data in read-write fashion across multiple machines or devices, generally for a single user. Groups can, to a limited extent, share such data with a .Mac family pack, or can use SyncTogether to share data among mixed workgroups, on a single machine among multiple users, across a subnet or over the internet.
How you enable these technologies depends upon what you want to achieve. If you want a calendar to be viewable by someone but not editable, then you publish it and let them know that they can subscribe to it. If you want someone to be able to edit one or more calendars on a selective basis, then you use SyncTogether to synchronize them by allowing another user read-write access to a collection (but not necessarily all) of your calendars.
You are starting at the head end of the process and attempting to configure these tools to offer services. What you need to do is just the opposite: determine what outcome you want to achieve, then configure one or more of the technologies to support that specific outcome. With SyncTogether, you can do that on a different basis for each synchronized user in your workgroup.
Publish only if you are willing to let non-editable data exist publicly. Subscribe if you want read-only access to one or more calendars. Synchronize if you want multiple users to be able to add, change or delete event and task data.

  • Exchange: contacts sync from read-only folder

In the past, I have been able to set up a device to get its contact info from a read-only Exchange public folder (set with one-way sync).  Setting up a replacement device, that option is greyed out and the folder in question cannot be selected.  Desktop software version  is 7.0.0.43; device is a Tour 9630 running OS 5.0.  Help?  We are not running BES.

I am going to give followup.
The problem was corruption of my brand new Imac 27.  I went around and around with applecare and they finally figured out that my preferences were corrupted.  Usuallly that can be fixed but they were unable.  Basically, everytime I set the right connection to gmail up, it changed it...
Finally, I set up a new user account on my mac.  I logged into that user and started all over again.  Now everything works.
I spent hours and hours on this...  I bought a mac because "It just works"  No more fooling with the registry and spending forever in dread with tech support.   OK, so Mac doesn't have a registry.  It has libraries.  I spent forever fixing it..   Felt just like my Windows experience.  Hope this isn't a harbinger of things to come.

  • CalDAV calendars sync as read-only

    Hi!
I have a CalDAV calendar in iCal (Leopard 10.5.4) and can read-write-delete in iCal just fine. It syncs over to my iPod Touch, but as a read-only calendar--as if it were something I subscribed to. Is there a way around this? I imagine the same thing would happen on an iPhone.
    Thanks!
    Corey

Not to get off topic--but let's keep this to syncing CalDAV calendars to the iPod Touch and not a wish list of other features.
I'm still trying to find out if this is possible--having a CalDAV calendar sync to the iPod Touch as a read-write calendar.
Anyone else with some relevant feedback?
    Thanks!

    Hello Mark,
    And welcome to Apple Discussions!
I don't really have any suggestions for you, but I can point you to an older thread where you might find help. Check out this old post from another forum member who managed to address this issue him/herself.

  • Disable Yahoo Sync after iCloud migration

I am getting this pop up and it's driving me bonkers. I don't even use Yahoo sync, but I guess it was turned on when I had MobileMe. After the migration to iCloud, my MobileMe prefs have been disabled and it refers me to the iCloud prefs.
Does anyone know how to turn this off? I tried doing searched but only found solutions that required me to be able to access MobileMe preferences. So, that is a non-working solution after iCloud migration.
    Thanks in advance,
    Jen

Yes, this also driving me nuts. I gave in and said sync and it disappeared and never came back. Unfortunately, for some reason (possibly unrelated) my trial mobile me (I never paid for it), automatically appeared one day and took over 75% of all my contacts! I didn't know this and so I deleted the old mobile me account from address book which then deleted these contacts and then proceeded to wipe the rest of my devices!
I deleted all accounts off address book and reloaded a contacts back from a *.vcf file I had and presto everything back. As soon as I turned on iCloud sync again, so again did this flipping yahoo sync message appear again!
Is this because of old mobile me accounts even those that were just trials that are messing with apple cloud syncing? I have turned everything off and short of deleting my yahoo account I'm not sure what to try next!

  • Clustering read-only bean-managed entity ejbs

I'm designing a data caching approach that relies on using read-only entity ejbs with bean-managed persistence. My design is based on the fact that WebLogic blocks on entity bean access by concurrent users for a given bean instance (unique primary key). I would like to keep only one entity bean instance active(timeoutSetting=0) for eacy primary key for all users to share. That way I only have to hit the database one time to initially populate data in the entity bean. I'm worried about this approach in a WebLogic clustered environment. From reading notes in this newsgroup and other doc, it appears that WebLogic might not use one instance of the entity bean (based upon unique primary key) in a clustered environment. Is that true (that being multiple users could get their own instance of the entity bean with the same primary key)?
              Thanks,
              Bryan

Typically, the read-write EJBs are on each WL server instance, so there is
no remote invocation -- it is all done by reference.

  • I frequently get a message that pops up from yahoo sync asking for my password, and I don't know that I have ever done anything with yahoo sync?? So how do I make it go away?

I recently started getting a message popping up asking me for my Yahoo password and it references my email address  that is attached to Yahoo Sync somehow. It happens very frequently and I don't know that I have ever done anything with sync and I want it to go away. Anyone else had this problem?

Thank you so much!!! I was having the same issue and I was going mental as welll!!

Bought a new Ipod for daughter for Xmas. How can I use ICLOUD to sync Itunes only to her IPOD and not everything else on my iphone etc?

On the iPod turn off iCloud for calender, contacts and other things (Settings>iCloud) and turn off automatic downloading for apps and books (Settings>Store).
Aldso go to Settings Messages and Facetime and add her own email calling/messaging address and delete the Apple ID calling/messaging address.

  • An iPhone can be synced with only one iTunes library at a time

I recently bought a MacBook Pro, and I figured it would be pretty simple to move my iPhone to sync with iTunes on the Mac from iTunes on my pc, afterall it is the same program and both are designed for the iPhone.
I have been successful in getting the Contacts and Calendar to sync, but the Music, Applications, Video and a few other things give me this message when I check the sync box:
"The iPhone is synced with another iTunes library. Do you want to erase the iPhone and sync with this iTunes library? An iPhone can be synced with only one iTunes library at a time. Erasing and syncing replaces the contents of this iPhone with the contents of this iTunes library."
Obviously, I don't want to erase everything. Actually, I don't care about Music, Videos, Podcasts or Ringtones as I don't have any, but I do care about Photos and Applications. Actually Photos I can reload too, but I don't want to loose the apps I have purchased with the iTunes App Store.
I even tried going back to the PC and unchecking the Sync boxes on it, hoping this might disassociate it from the phone, but now even on that PC I get the same message.
How do I disconnect phone from the old iTunes and be able to sync it to the new iTunes? This should be simple right?

I made an appointment with a Mac Genius and I will say that while it was better than getting to talk to India on a poor quality phone call it was just about as helpful. Sure she was cute and friendly, but I left without my issue resolved and was surprised that I didn't even get a followup from anyone asking about my experience (hence my venting here)
Anyway, I found a solution for my issue here: http://tinyfish.net/2008/07/18/how-to-sync-iphone-with-multiple-computers/
This is a real solution to the issue, and has the benefit that I can do this to as many machines as I need and sync at any of them instead of just one. Hopefully, Apple doesn't delete my response since it truly is the answer to the problem and others might be looking for the same solution.

  • Access read-only LDAP for username/password, Directory Server LDAP for rest

Hello! I keep trying to find documentation on the above, but thus far I have been unable to find something that explains this well (and my attempts at figuring out thus far have failed).
I have a read-only LDAP that is used University wide, and I am not allowed to change how it currently operates. It uses double-bind authentication in that you search for a user to get their DN, then bind to that DN with the users password to see if it was correct.
I'd like to use the above setup to verify a user's credential as well as return some basic information about them (name, email, etc). After this, I'd like to use another freshly installed Directory Server LDAP to manage the roles that seem to be needed for Portal Server (as I cannot write to the original LDAP).
Any help or advice on the above would be appreciated! Thank you.

The authentication you described is the default way LDAP authentication works.
AM Ldap auth-module allows you to 'pull' attributes from the LDAP server you're using for authentication and store it in it's 'amSDK' Directory Server - which is leveraged by Portal Server (if you're talking about Sun's Portal Server).
However this is only done if the profile is created (set 'dynamic profile generation' in auth - service).
As Portal Server does not support the new 'identity repsoistory API' of AM you have to stick to AM's legacy mode when using Portal Server.
To keep the the data in sync (if needed) you have to write a post-auth class.

Lightroom is a great product for the photographer, but for his spouse it's not so easy.  I'd like an easy way to copy an image to the clipboard or export it to iPhoto to be used in other apps like iWeb.
My photos are stored on a server.  It should be easy for my wife to go through the collection in read-only mode and use photos for blogs, emails, slideshows, etc without having to learn how to sync the directory tree, export from Lightroom and manage those temporary files.  Currently the best process I can find is:
Use Bridge to browse the photos since only Adobe products can see the Develop settings for the RAW images.
Select the image and right-click Open-With Camera Raw
In Camera Raw Save the file as a JPEG into a temporary folder
In Finder, find the temporary folder, open the JPEG with Preview or drag the file to iPhoto
If It's in Preview, Copy the image to the clipboard for pasting into an app like Mail or iWeb.
It seems like we could eliminate several steps here if Adobe Bridge had a convert&copyToClipboard option that would convert a RAW with Develop settings into a JPEG and then copy that JPEG into the clipboard for pasting into an application.
If anyone has a better approach, let me know.
Besides the cost overhead, it's not realistic for her to use Lightroom from her computer because Lightroom won't dynamically see folder tree changes without a Sync.  Using Bridge she also loses out on virtual copies.
    Thanks,
    -Ryan.

    Pete,
Good point... that's true. I shouldn't say there aren't any programs that support XMP... there certainly are!
I don't know, though, of any application that can read - and more importantly *use* - the XMP data that's specifically related to the Lightroom Developer metadata.
An application can say that it has read/write support for XMP (which is actually not only for LR, but also for Photoshop and even PDFs), but that doesn't mean the application has to recognize - and honor - every piece of metadata contained within that XMP file. I think a lot of the applications listed on Adobe's website only support a subset of the Lightroom metadata: EXIF, IPTC, geocoding... that kind of thing.
So it's one thing to say that an app supports XMP, and it's another to say that an application fully supports XMP. If an image editor supported every XMP tag, it could take a RAW + Lightroom XMP file, pick up where you left off in Lightroom, save its own changes back to XMP, and Lightroom would recognize the other editor's changes. I don't think even Photoshop supports XMP to that level!
I don't know of any app that will read Lightroom's Developer metadata and display the same image that you see in Lightroom, which is what the OP was asking for and  what I was addressing in  saying there aren't apps that support XMP.
But, you're right, I was an over-sweeping generalization.  So, let me restate more accurately
The XMP data is developed by Adobe, but it's a published standard so in theory anybody who wanted to COULD read the Lightroom Developer XMP/DNG data. But nobody does.
Of course, all this is a little academic because even if an organizer (e.g. Picasa) could honor all the Lightroom metadata and display the image "correctly", it wouldn't matter. The ultimate goal of the OP is to use the image in blogs, emails, etc. which is unfortunately still going to require a JPG. Maybe one day DNG and XMP will be as widely supported as JPG (which I think is Adobe's goal)!
    Thanks for keeping me honest

  • I bought a MAC for the first time and plugged my Itouch into it to download my music on it, but is says The iPod "Rick's IPOD" is synced with another iTunes library. An iPod can be synced with only one iTunes library at a time. What should I do?

Same as you would if you bought a pc; copy everything from your old computer to your new one.  Then you can just sync everything from the new computer, as you did with the old one.

  • [Solved] Laptop Suspend puts Hard Drive into Read-Only

My problem is that s2ram brings back X (and the virtual console, if I'm on one), but never the hard drive.
    s2ram -f -a 1 suspends just like s2ram -f. -a 2 and 3 just make a high pitched sound.
    I tried both http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Suspend_to_RAM and http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Pm-utils methods.
I updated my BIOS drivers but that didn't help
    s2disk works perfectly.
