Yamaha KX61 USb MIDI keyboard doesn't work in Garage Band

I have installed latest Yamaha USB-MIDI driver V1.2.0 for Yamaha KX61.
I have connected USB cable to Mac Mini and turned the keyboard on.
In Other section of System Preferences I can see an icon for Yamaha USB-MIDI. In there I can see Device Name: Yamaha KX.
Yamaha KX61 is visible in Audio MIDI Setup utility under Midi Devices tab with Port 1, 2 and 3.
In GarageBand application Audio/MIDI preferences it shows "3 MIDI inputs detected" but Audio Input gives 2 choices only: System Setting and Built-In Input.
When I turn Keyboard off, Garage Band responds with message "The number of MIDI inputs has changed. Now no input is available." And then it shows MIDI status: 0 MIDI Input(s) detected.
When I turn Keyboard on, Garage Band responds with message "The number of MIDI inputs has changed. Now 3 inputs are available." And then it shows MIDI status: 3 MIDI Input(s) detected.
I don't understand how to get the keyboard play with Garage Band when adding new software instrument tack.
If anybody able to use KX61 in Garage Band, please share your experience.

Hope its ok to answer you own question.
Just buy the Apple "Lightning to usb camera adapter".  Plug it into the ipad 4 and plug your usb male A cable from the midi keyboard into it and fire up the apps.  Works fine--I just tested it.  You must have a keyboard or other usb device that requires very little or no power from the usb port in order to work.  Also, it must not require a usb driver.  See iosmidi.com/devices for a list of devices that should work.
A lot of investigation (not on any apple site) allowed me to glean out this information.

  • Kurzweil PC88 midi keyboard doesn't work!

I have the latest version of Logic 9.1.1
I bought a 1x1midi tab one end usb directly plugged into computer to midi end plugged into my Kurzweil keyboard. I am getting no midi.
Can anyone give me advice as to what is going wrong?
    Thanks!

    Hi marykeys,
I bought a brand new Kurzweil PC88 12 years ago and still working incredible! As far as being recognized by Logic (Express, Pro, Studio, etc), I have never had any problems, except for one situation with an M-Audio Midisport 2x2. What I currently use is the M-Audio UNO USB MIDI interface and works perfect! Really simple and friendly device and have never heard any bad review from it.
Still try to look for setup issues in your computer, before even thinking about reseting your PC88.
    - Go to "Audio MIDI Setup" / "MIDI Devices tab and run the "Rescan MIDI" (Make sure the keyboard is on and properly connected through your MIDI interface -also ON and connected). If not the keyboard, the Interface should show up.
    - If nothing happened, click on "Add Device" and then double click on the new device appearing as "new external device". Fill the information of Device Name/Manufacturer/Model (this is just to make things more organized) and then click on "Port". Press YES to the question that might ask you and then see if in the "Ports" area is available the Port 1. Usually the MIDI interfaces gets the Port 1 by default. If not, then something could be happening with your interface. Having created the new device, run the scan again. If you see the MIDI interface that's perfect and the following step is to connect the Interface with the new device by dragging the mouse from one device to another (the small triangles) and so they should end up being connected with two "wires". Then you can run the test and click on the new device. While having the click pressed, press some keys on your PC88 and you should get several bips, as much as keys you play. Try also to see if E-MU have any software update for your Operating System (remember that most drivers has been updated and transformed since the Intel era on Mac).
    - If this works, then make sure to double check Logic preferences. Go to "MIDI" and in the General Tab of MIDI, press "Reset All MIDI Drivers". This will help to renew Logic's information about new changes on the MIDI Setup of your computer.
    - If this doesn't work, you should consider a different MIDI interface and also contacting Kurzweil (YoungChang) for further information, not to have your PC88 reseted, unless you have nothing to lose.
    Good Luck!

  • USB Mouse / Keyboard doesn't work after resuming from hibernate

I am using a USB device that splits out to 2 PS2 ports, one for a mouse, one for a keyboard. It works great, but when I put my X61 into hibernate, the mouse and keyboard do not work when I resume from hibernate.
I installed all the relevant patches and power manager drivers from the driver downloads page, but my mouse still doesn't work.
Can someone point me to the correct download or shed some light on this?
    Thank you!

I have this same problem with this same device. It is a "composite USB device".
What I've notice is that the problem happens mostly with USB 1.1 ports. When the device is connected to a USB 2.0 port the problem doesn't happen always.
It depends on the computer though. I added a PCMCIA USB 2.0 adaptor to my laptop that has USB 1.1 only. And when I connect the USB-to-PS/2 cable to the USB 2.0 my mouse sometimes work after suspend/hibernate but sometimes doesn't.
However, on my other desktop computer, which has integrated USB 2.0 ports, this problem has never happened (I haven't tested it exhaustively though).
This is a Windows bug of course. Everything related to USB 1.1 support is buggy in Windows. One more example is the annoying (and possibly catastrophic) "Delayed write error" that appears when you use a external hard drive plugged to a USB 1.1 port.
I guess M$ is focusing their efforts on making USB 2.0 to work well and they have forgotten about USB 1.1. Or it could a problem related to "USB composite devices", hard to know.

  • Midi keyboard doesn't work every once in a while

This is the most strangest thing I have encountered so far. Everything is working, putting notes into Logic via my midi controller. All of a sudden, it stops working. I try to play notes on the keyboard but nothing, no response. I can play them fine with the mouse on the virtual keyboard (on one of the instances - Kontakt 3), but not via my controller. I don't push any buttons by accident either for it to stop working.
I close the project, reopen it, but nothing. I restart the computer but nothing. If I open a new project THEN it works. I have it set on midi channel 1. Sometimes I switch it to omni and it starts working. But not lately.
    What is the problem here?
    Thanks.

What make and type is it?

  • Looking for a way to get my Product ID and Vendor ID so I can enable my Radium 49 USB MIDI keyboard to work with Labview 7

Looking for the Product ID and Vendor ID for my Radium 49 USB MIDI keyboard to work with Labview 7
Is there a tool to find out the Vendor ID and Product ID for a USB device?
Example: of what I'm looking for
The Product ID for National Instruments DAQPad-6020E is 0x12C0. The
USB vendor ID is 0x3923. This is a 16-bit hexadecimal number(1093)
    (that is decimal 4243).
Thanks for all the fast responses this newsgroup RULES!!!!!!!!!!!!

How To Find The Vendor and Product ID for USB Devices?
    Primary Software: Driver Software>>NI-VISA
    Primary Software Version: 3.3.1
    Primary Software Fixed Version: N/A
    Secondary Software: N/A
    Problem:
I want to make an NI-VISA driver that requires the vendor and product ID?
    Solution:
There is a utility called USBView,
free from Windows, attached below, which you can use to view what is
connected to your computer's USB ports. It is necessary to load this
program and connect the USB device in development. Upon selecting the
device in USBView, one can then look on the right side of the
application window to obtain the Product ID and Vendor ID. This will
allow you to enter in the correct IDs when creating a driver .inf file
when using the VISA Driver Development Wizard. For more information
about how to use the VISA Driver Development Wizard see the related
    links below.
Note: It is necessary to keep the hexadecimal
(0x####) format. Do not remove the "0x" hexadecimal format preceding
    the ID number.

  • Lightning to USB midi keyboard

    Hi
Do I need the official apple lightning to female USB connector (or camera connector) or can I just plug in the cable that comes with the ipad 4 and iphone 5 straight into the USB midi keyboard...?
The latter doesn't work - any ideas why not?
    Rgds,
    Gary

I need to know the exact same thing. I'm planning to buy an iPhone 5 exactly to use it as a sound generator module (Garage Band alike). If it doesn't work, I'll have to find another solution. Android, maybe.

  • How do you connect a USB MIDI keyboard to iPad Air?

    Hello,
I can't get my USB keyboards to connect to my iPad Air.  I used to use the camera connection kit with my 1st gen iPad and it worked perfectly.  Now when trying to connect using my camera connector plugged into a lightning to 30 pin adapter with the iPad Air I get no response when trying to use my keyboards with Garageband, etc.  This seems like a step backwards!!!
Can anyone advise on how to use a USB MIDI keyboard with the iPad Air?
    Thanks,
    Richard

    Same problem here...
I just read on another forum that someone managed to connect a midi device using a simple converter.
I have a digital piano with the square type USB connector, bought an adapter to convert the iPad Air's ligtning USB cable's USB end to that square connector, plugged it in, GarageBand did not respond to the Midi input.
on a macbook pro it works ok, but would be nice to use the iPad now that I bought it...

I have an iMac and my keyboard doesn't work. How can I fix it. Got it in 2011. Also my mouse is acting up

What OS X are you running and do you have USB or Wireless input devices...?
For wireless devices, take a look at > Troubleshooting wireless mouse and keyboard issues
USB keyboards and mice generally don't have connection issues, but they and there cords do occasionally go bad.

  • Italian keyboard doesn't work under the gui

I have an italian keyboard on a x86 Solaris 10 installation.
All the patch available using Sun Update applied but the keyboard doesn't work, it still works only as a USA keyboard.
Forcing it as a Italian layout at startup (pressing esc and using the boot utility) make the keyboard work in the consolle with the correct layout but under the gui, after the dtlogin startup, the key doesn't work correctly. Every key is "shifted" of one position, so inserting "root" result in "eiir"
Even applyng the 118966-08 patch as suggested doesn't work.
Obiouvsly I used the gnome panel to set the correct keyboard under gnome but with no result
Both the two type of italian keyboards don't work, the standard one and the 104 "ibm" italian layout.
All this keyboards work fine on the same PC with both WindowsXP and Linux Ubuntu.
Any suggestion to fix this ?

The solution was to reconfigure the X-Server: In a console-window I called kdmconfig and corrected the keyboard settings: it was a US-Keyboard. Nobody knows ... At installation time I configured a german keyboard.
A remaining problem is that my mouse and keyboard are connected via USB and they are frozzen after boot. First when I physicaly detach both and reconnect them they start working in an ordinary manner. I saw a forum entry which talked about BIOS-settings.

  • Audio Output Corruption when using USB MIDI keyboard controller

recently, i'm getting intermittent corrupted audio output (short blips of distortion) while playing through my usb midi keyboard. i thought maybe some data got corrupted on the disk over time so i wiped the drive, reinstalled osx, installed all updates, hooked up usb keyboard and all worked fine. today, i plugged in the keyboard and the distortions have reappeared. i unplugged the keyboard and played with the Musical Typing- still distorted. i rebooted and tried Musical Typing- still distorted. I removed the usb midi keyboard device from Audio MIDI Setup, rebooted, and the distortions have disappeared when using Musical Typing. Connecting the keyboard causes the distortions to reappear. I'm at a loss.
    Any ideas?
    environment:
    macbook pro
    osx 10.4.11
    gb 4.1.2
    studiologic vmk188 plus

    UPDATE:
I decided to try going through an Firewire Audio Interface instead. Keyboard-(MIDI)->MOTU Traveler-(Firewire)->MacBook Pro.
    Same corruption/hiccups/choppy playback.

    Jay:
Below is excerpt I took from [HERE|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1461] which mandates using an internal keyboard or a USB keyboard/mouse to install Windows via boot camp.
    Requirements
To use Boot Camp, you need:
    1. *An Intel-based Macintosh computer with a built-in or USB keyboard and a built-in trackpad or USB mouse.*
    2. Mac OS X 10.5 or later
    3. The latest firmware updates available for your Intel-based Mac.
    4. At least 10 GB of free space on your startup disk (single partition).
    5. A full, single-disc version of Windows Vista, Windows XP Home Edition or Professional with Service Pack 2 or later. Boot Camp does not include Windows. You must provide your own properly licensed installation disc.
Important: A Windows XP installation disc must include Service Pack 2 (SP2). You cannot install an earlier version of Windows and upgrade to Windows XP, nor install an earlier version of Windows XP and update it to SP2.
    6. Boot Camp Assistant (find it installed in /Applications/Utilities/ on Leopard).

  • IMac won't recognise USB MIDI keyboard in Audio MIDI Setup

I upgraded earlier in the week from a G4 eMac to a new Intel iMac. All appeared well until I tried to use my Evolution MK-361 USB midi keyboard from inside Logic. No midi events were coming through the system.
After some fiddling around I found the Audio MIDI Setup utility and the keyboard is not listed as a device in there. However, if I open System Profiler and select the USB information I can see that the keyboard is connected. According to the E-Magic web site this model of keyboard is class compliant and so shouldn't need a driver installed.
Originally I had the keyboard plugged into a USB hub. I've tried restarting the machine, restarting the machine with the cable plugged into different USB ports and different USB cables plugged into different USB ports. I've also downloaded all the latest OS / firmware / application updates and installed them.
I reconnected the keyboard to my old eMac and it shows up on there so I know it's not a fault in the keyboard itself.
The only other bits of gear connected to the machine are a Lacie external hard drive and my Saffire but these are firewire device so I wouldn't expect them to cause a problem (they certainly didn't on the eMac).
If anyone has any ideas I would seriously appreciate the help. As you can imagine I'm pretty gutted having forked out a grand for the machine.
    Cheers

iMac (Intel)   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    Hi Jon
So much for plug and play
    Yeah, it's great isn't it?
I emailed M-Audio tech support about it and apparently it's a known problem in 10.4.8 and they're waiting for a fix from Apple. I guess I'll just have to keep my eyes peeled for OS updates and go rummaging under the stairs for a midi cable instead.
    Ho hum.
