Yamaha psr 262 keyboard isn't recognized by GB

I have a Yamaha PSR 262 keyboard connected to my Macbook pro, running Leopard. It is connected via a M-audio midi-to-usb connection. In preferences, I have confirmation that one midi connection is establised. However, the keyboard icon doesn't appear on screen and when I use the keyboard in "software instrument" mode nothing gets recorded.
Help , can anyone assist?

are the cables correct:

  • I have no idea how to transfer songs on my Yamaha PSR-E323 keyboard to my macbook. How do I go about that?

I purchased a Yamaha PSR-E323 61-key digital keyboard. I recorded some parts of songs out of the blue that I really like. I don't know what I was playing. It was just something that sounded good at the moment and im going to have to leave my keyboard somewhere unaccesable in two days. So im trying to get my recordings onto my laptop so I can translated the peices into notaion that way. Problem is I have no idea how. I purchased a 1-in/1-out USB MIDI interfae by M-AUDIO. I have a midi in and out put in my keyboard. And I have garageband on my macbook. But no knowledge. And the only reason I havent tried anything yet is because im scared I'll delet the pre-recorded songs on the keyboard that i want to transfer if I connect it to my computer. Can anyone help? In my Yamaha owners manual it only mentions the midi in and out with pc's.

  • Problem - Logic pro 8 & Yamaha PSR-S500 keyboard - recording drums

    Hi
I'm using Logic Pro 8 - with a Yamaha PSR-S500 music keyboard connected to my Macbook Pro via a USB cable (the keyboard came with drivers).
All "mono" instruments including piano record fine into Logic's arrange window. However when I want to record a "full drumkit" from the keyboard's Style options. (as if some is playing a full kit) I can record nothing.
I've gone to "mapped instruments" etc in the Environment window - all to no avail. is it because my music keyboard is not midi (ie with actual interface) or should I be checking something else?

This problem points to a buffer that is set too low. Make it one step bigger, but leave the I/O safety buffer OFF.
also: you can disable the warning message.
    2.
CAN also be buffer-related, but it may be the disk. Is it a 5400 or 7200 RPM disk?
It may also be that memory is too full. I would recommend installing Menumeters (freeware) http://www.pure-mac.com/diag.html#menumeters
You can monitor CPU-use, disk activity, memory use, paging activity and network activity with it.
Another thing to consider is to Freeze all Software Instrument tracks before recording. Also freeze heavily 'insert-pluginned' audio tracks. This may free up a lot of CPU power.
    3. This problem might benefit from the above tips as well, but I think you can win the most by NOT using software monitoring when recording (for all three issues); it brings extra latency and puts much more strain on the CPU. Through which plugs do you monitor? And why?
I'ld recommend using the direct monitoring capabilities of both your interfaces, and avoid Software Monitoring when recording. Also being aware of what is going on (by using both Menumeters AND Logics' own CPU-meters) can be crucial - especially Paging (when active RAM is written to or read from disk) can disturb Logic, as well as background OS X applications that kick in during a session.
I also recommend turning off Journaling before a recording session. To do that, open *Disk Utility*, select the recording disk from its' list, hold down the ⌥ key and choose the menu *File>Disable Journaling*.
To turn it back on after recording, same actions, only now the menu item will say *Enable Journaling*.

  • How to load midifiles from MAC to Yamaha psr-e413 Keyboard

I want to transfer midi files from my MAC-lion in to my Yamaha Keyboard model psr-E413.  Currently installed on my MAC is the midi driver from Yamaha. This works well to transfer notes from my keyboard to my MAC, playing the keyboard using garageband.
I now want to load midi files from my MAC into my keyboard. Is there a file transfer program on the MAC that i can use for this purpose ?
    Hope someone can help.

Just place the USB stick into one of your ports.  You should see an item appear on the desktop representing the USB stick.  Just drag the zip file from your desktop to the USB item.  If you don't see an icon appear on the desktop after plugging it in, then check your Finder window for it.

  • Midi Keyboard isn't Recognized by my Mac

    Hi all,
So I was working on Logic Pro a few days ago with my M-Audio Oxygen 61 keyboard.  I had to reboot my computer for some reason and then tried to use my keyboard again and it wouldn't play any sounds.  If i plug it in theres enough power to turn the keyboard on but it wont reinstall its driver (which has dissapeared from my computer) or be recognized by the computer.  Any tips?  I knopw its been discussed before, but I'm in no way experienced with the software or technology, so I could use any help I can get.  Thank you all for your time.

  • Connecting yamaha psr-292 to my iMac for midi

I have never worked with midi or GarageBand and I want to start. I have an old Yamaha PSR-292 keyboard with a 6-pin MIDI-IN port and a 6-pin MIDI-OUT port.
My iMac has three USB ports.
I'm at the beginning of this and just trying to figure out how to connect my Yamaha to my iMac so I can play a piano piece on the Yamaha and record it into GarageBand and create a CD. Right now I'm not looking to mix or do anything other than play a standard piano piece and make a CD of it.
Is the connecting as simple as buying a specific cord with two 6-pin heads on one end and a USB head on the other? Can anybody advise a complete newcomer?
Also if you want to suggest websites that would help me, I appreciate it. I'm not being lazy about this; I HAVE looked on-line and couldn't find the answer to this question. Thank you.

  • Using my external midi instrument, Yamaha PSR-540 as a sound module

I use Logic Studio/Logic Pro 8.0.2. I have figured out how to record rhythms from my Yamaha PSR-540 keyboard as midi onto my arrange window as I couldn't find a similar loop within Logic. Due to my keyboard's timing being different to Logic I have now figured out how to get Logic to trigger my keyboard as a sound module/source also; however, Logic is only seeing a random selection of 128 of the 707 XG/GM sounds on my keyboard and not the sound I need (which is an XG [Expanded General Midi] sound = Rock Toms). These 128 sounds are listed via the Environment window, clicking box 1 on the multi-track instrument object shown and then double-clicking on box 1. This window details two key things as well, Bank: (No Bank specified, Names of Bank 0 used) and Bank Message: (Control 32). I've tried altering these in the hope Logic brings up a different listing of my keyboard's sounds but to no luck. Please help if you can. Thank you very much.

Thanks. I checked out those XG synth specs v1.26 and I looked at Logic's manual page 887 etc. I then looked at my keyboard's manual again and although it didn't tell me much, I think I'm after LSB rather than MSB. By now having these two other places to look it allows me to make many variations; however, I don't really know how to really connect the dots between those synth specs v1.26 and making the appropriate changes in the Define Custom Bank Messages and Multi Instrument Windows. Bit over my head and have been trying for about 10 hours since. Is it possible to get my hands on an environment with all the correct presets for such a problem?
A site that's been around for ages.
    http://www.swiftkick.com/
Under downloads Logic Environments/Logic Users Group/Synth Editors
It's been a long time since I looked at any of these, they're from older versions of Logic but probably can be imported by layer.

  • Yamaha PSR-172 & Garageband '08 - Help!

    I have a Yamaha PSR-172 keyboard and a MacBook with GarageBand '08.
Can anyone tell me the simplest, layman's term method of connecting my keyboard to my MacBook such that it will work in GarageBand?
I know that I don't have the right cables because I have nothing I can put in the MIDI in or out jacks. If anyone could tell me what I need to get to make it work, it would be extremely helpful!
    Thanks :o)

My PSR 270 loves the Yamaha UX-16 Interface. Got mine for $26 off Ebay - works beautifully

  • How to connect to a yamaha PSR-E423 music keyboard

How do I download songs from my mac to a Yamaha PSR-E423 music keyboard. I have in stalled the drivers but now what?

Yes I did both aforementioned activities and Mac does recognise it as a USB device but there is no method to transfer midi files from supplied cd to Yamaha PSR-E423. It does not show up as a Folder to drag files into like the Windows version in the manual. Thanks for responding.

  • Aluminum Keyboard Sometimes Not Recognized By USB Port

I have an Aluminum wired keyboard that occasionally isn't detected by my Macbook in both Windows XP (Boot Camp) and Leopard. This is an exchanged one because the first one also behaved this way. I'm not using the extension cable. I have a USB wireless mouse plugged into one of the keyboard's USB ports and a flash drive. When the keyboard isn't detected, the mouse doesn't work (no lights on the receiver, can't connect), but the flash drive gets recognized. I've also had the keyboard not be detected without the flash drive so I know that it isn't the issue.
When it isn't detected I have to disconnect and reconnect the keyboard multiple times until it randomly starts working. Once it works, it doesn't stop working, though after going to sleep it occasionally disconnects itself on startup. All the function keys work properly and there's no updates available...is there anything I can do about this?

I've seen the very same problem. In my case I have a wired Mighty Mouse attached to one of the USB ports on the aluminum keyboard. Every time I plug it in -- not recognized first time. Second time -- success. Highly annoying.
Unfortunately I don't have a solution for the problem.

  • Upgrade to 10.4.7, now USB flash drive isn't recognized

I upgraded to 10.4.7 the other night, but the installation was interrupted. Apple Support got the machine up and running by doing a safe boot and removing some corrupted start up files.
Problem is that my USB memory key isn't recognized. It works fine in my iBook, but not in the iMac.
It appears in the System Profiler as a "Flash Disk", but does not appear in the Disk Utility.
iMac Intel 20"   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   Upgraded to 10.4.7

I have an expanded problem now -- I still can't get the system to recognize the flash drives, and it won't recognize my digital camera, either. Oddly, it starts iPhoto, but it doesn't see the camera.
I've tried all the erasing tips with the flash drives, but they didn't work.
There is nothing in either System Profiler or Disk Utility identifying the camera.
Otherwise, the system runs great. And the keyboard and mouse work fine.
    Any ideas?

  • Failed to plug and play with my Yamaha PSR-500. What do I need?

I'm trying to connect my Yamaha PSR-500(A relative unknown keyboard even on the Yamaha site) and the plug and play function doesn't work. I did a internet investigation but al the things I found where useless...
    -The keyboard is old.
    -I use a MIDI-cable.
    -iMac doesn't recognize the keyboard.
-Had the same problem with my ex-windows computer but then I found a good windows software...
Greatings and have a great night,
    Nathan

I'm sorry but the Yamaha website distinctly says that the PSR500 has NO USB Connector.
It does have a midi interface in the form of IN and OUT jacks - 5-pin DIN type.
(These seem to be labeled the wrong way round.  Either that, or my HOSA adaptor is labeled the wrong way round.)
The only other connectors (all on the back) are Power Adaptor, Pedal and Earphones.
NathanMac said that the Yamaha PSR500 is relative(ly) unknown, even on the Yamaha site.
However, they do offer some advice on how to connect here:

    I hope this helps.

  • Problem with Yamaha PSR-550 as MIDI controller

    Hi:
A friend lent me a Yamaha PSR-550 to use as a MIDI controller for Software Instruments, but I am having a few problems. My MIDI to USB interface is an M-Audio Uno 1x1. I have already used my Roland V-Accordion with no issues- it was plug and play. I assumed the same with the Yamaha and hooked it up but got no sound. Checking the 550's manual I saw that there were a few different templates for MIDI setup. The "Master Keyboard" looked right (using the keyboard strictly as a controller for MIDI data) but it gave me nothing. I tried the other templates too without success.
In GB help I read about Audio MIDI Setup, opened it, created a new device and connected the ins and outs but still got no sound from the keyboard and no indications in Test Setup. Then I downloaded a USB-MIDI driver for the Yamaha and installed that. Nothing. Reading some posts in the Discussions I swapped the MIDI in and out cables, although they specify "To MIDI In" &c. Still nothing. Finally I noticed that the M-Audio Uno is showing no activity coming from the keyboard. I tried all those templates again but am still seeing no signal from the 550. As an aside, I just noticed that when I click on the "New External Device" icon while in Test Setup mode the Out arrow from the Uno shows red and the Uno itself indicates that a signal is going out.
My question is whether I am doing something wrong in the PSR-550 setup, or if the MIDI out on the keyboard could possibly be bad. Thanks to everyone in advance for any help you can give me.
    /bob luke

I am working without a net here (not at home where my Mac and Yamaha are), but I will TRY to lend some advice from my experience, and will try to confirm and clarify it tonight when I get home.
I go through the same problem every time I hook up my PSR-740 to my Mac. I too have a Uno 1x1. It usually takes some fiddling with all of the controls.
I seem to recall the main issue is within the Yamaha's setups and I don't know if the 550 has the same options as the 740. But, what I have to do is go into the MIDI Utility function on the 740 and make sure 2 functions are set a certain way - I believe one has to be External ('Control' function?) and the other may be 'Yes' to MIDI output?. Don't quote me on that yet and sorry for the vague answer. Hopefully I can set you straight later today.
