Yellow colour cast on all photos help!

I have photo taken with a canon 400d with sRGB colour profile set in the camera. However when these or any other photos from any camera have a yellow colour cast. I have the canon Digital Photo Professional software installed as well and when i view these photos in DPP they look exactly as the scene that i captured. Example below.

Can anyone tell how to fix this and have iPhoto show the pictures correctly?
Thanks

The photo on the left is the correct color rendition, i.e. the bluish version, right? Do other applications, i.e. Preview, Safari display the photos correctly on your computer?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There's now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • Iphoto froze then lost all photos-Help!

Iphoto froze so I forced it to quit several times.  Then i did a safe boot and restated machine.  It would then open but all photos are gone.  How do I restore them?

If you were able to locate the file called 'iPhoto Library' in your Pictures folder then now is a good time to make a copy of it just in case. I lost my hard drive once and the only thing I cared about were the lost pictures of my kids. Now I keep multiple backups.
You can view the files in the 'iPhoto Library' file by holding down the control key when you click on the 'iPhoto Library' file. A menu will appear. Select 'Show Package Contents' and you'll be able to view all of the files in your iPhoto library. You should see a folder called 'Masters' which has subfolders based on year, month, day that contain your images. Hopefully you'll be able to recover easily, but in a worst case scenario you should be able to pull the original images.
You may want to post your question in the iPhoto forum where you're more likely to find iPhoto experts who can provide more in-depth assistance.

  • Yellow triangle appears on all photos but no problem found?

Things have definitely slowed down on Aperture since I upgraded to a Nikon D800 (each raw file is about 40mb). I'm having problems with speed and occational crashes. Yesterday the computer (macbook pro, 3 years old) forced me to shutdown and when I restared I had to rebuild the library which finally opened and showed ALL my images in Aperture had the yellow triangle with "!" and the arrow. I've had this issue with some files before and would "locate referenced files" (I keep all masters on an external which is backed up twice in differnt locations). Locating referenced files has always fixed the problem but here's the issue, sorry it's taken this long to get to it.....
When I locate files they are found quickly on the external drive but the button to reconnect (tried 'reconnect all' too) doesn't do anything. I then finished all my edits from the last shoot and exported without any problem. So it looks like it's all working fine but I'm confused/nervous about those **** yellow triangles that are on all of my 17000 images.
One thought is that I may have had my second external plugged in still after I had done a manual backup... and maybe Aperture referenced the backed up files? Even if that happened I should still be able to locate referenced files on the master hard drive and reconnect all.
Any thoughts on this would be appreciated.
    Cheers
    Pete

When I 'control/alt/clicked' and chose "repair database" in Aperture, it quickly said there was a problem and I had to "Rebuild the database". I first quit, and made a backup just in case, then went back in and chose the "rebuild" option. IT WORKED. All the yellow triangles are gone and it even fixed a couple of the glitches with exporting I was having.
Thanks for your guidence Kirby and hope this helps others.

  • 9.1.1 just lost all photos - HELP!

Re iPhoto 9.1.1 (527). iPhoto just prompted to convert/update library. Initial message stated that some files were not accessible and asked to repair permissions. Indicated that process could take an hour or more for large libraries, but zipped through in a few seconds. Resulted in only five events with no photos. Finder indicates 62G library, yet iPhoto not displaying anything. Have recent TM backup prior to conversion. iPhoto requested update but I didn't have time, so 9.1.1 was opened, but didn't update yet. I have this backup. I don't know if it's corrupted.
I hope photos can be recovered - priceless family memories. Earlier backups lost because previous TM LaCie drive crashed.
    Thank you very much.

iPhoto requested update but I didn't have time, so 9.1.1 was opened, but didn't update yet.
    What does that mean?
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • Magenta colour cast added to exported jpg photos

I shoot raw with my Canon EOS 5D and import the raw images to LR. There is no Development preset. Colours in LR look OK on my calibrated monitor - this is not a camera calibration problem as suggested in LR help and knowledgebase; I have tested these solutions with no change. Basic edits are usually about exposure correction or spot removal.
When I export the photos as a jpg files they have a magenta colour cast, sometimes quite strong. LR cannot be used for reliable prediction of what an exported photo will look like.
I checked with Canon Digital Photo Professional. The colour of the original photo shown in DPP is exactly the same as the jpg colours. This makes me think that LR display render is unreliable.
    My system is as follows
LR 1.4.1 on PC with XP Pro service pack 2
LR installed on C: with over 80GB free space
LR catalogue on second internal F: with over 34GB free space
Photos on USB drive with over 220GB free space
2GB RAM 2.4 GHz P4 with Dell 2408WFP LCD monitor
LR export to sRGB 80% jpg 1000 pixels short edge (reduced from 4368x2912 pixel)

    >I calibrate my monitor with Monaco EZcolor 2.6.5 and an i1 calorimeter from x-rite. I have profiles for day time with natural light and for evening with artificial light. I have also tested the monitor with various pictures for black and for colour rendering.
Excellent! Be aware that I have seen problems on this forum before because of defective colorimeters (a calorimeter is a device that measures heat BTW!).
    >I use LR and Photoshop CS2. I use Canon software to download the photos from my camera to sub folder of my own choice then I import them to LR. The colour rendition by LR and Photoshop are identical.
That is a very good sign. If the color rendition between Lightroom and Photoshop is identical, you do not have a bad monitor profile, so we have to think about something else.
    >The exported jpg files are uploaded onto a web page at panoramio.com for use on Google Earth. Therefore I view the jpg files with Mozila Firefox 2.0.0.14 and with Google Earth 4.2 The colour rendition by Canon Digital Photo Professional of the raw file is identical to the jpg rendition by Firefox of the web site photo.
Be aware that DPP can be set up to not color manage. There is a preference you have to turn on to make it color manage (you should if you want to trust the color). If you see a difference between Lightroom/Photoshop and an unmanaged browser, it is usually due to the fact that the browser is unmanaged. You cannot trust an unmanaged browser to show you the correct color even on a calibrated monitor. You still should not have a color cast in the neutrals though! Perhaps you should post some examples such as a direct Lightroom export (perhaps simply a link to the panoramio page) and a screenshot of what it looks like on your machine. That could perhaps narrow the issue down.
Do images such as the third image down in the left column (labelled "sRGB Standard RGB 2.2 gamma") on this page http://www.gballard.net/psd/go_live_page_profile/embeddedJPEGprofiles.html look normal (i.e. normal skintones, not too saturated, neutral whites) on your screen?
    >I don't know about Firefox 3.0, it has not been offered in the normal auto update. I don't know about the secret setting for Firefox.

  • I need to know how to download all photos AND videos from 2 "libraries" within Adobe Revel. Please help.

I was quite angered last night when I posted the first time, so lets try this again:
Here is my setup:  I have adobe Revel on my Mac and iOS devices and it has worked quite well to be honest until I recently realized my photos and videos are basically trapped within the software. There is no way (that I am aware) to export all photos/videos or any kind of tool to pull the raw data out of the app and put it into say iPhoto or Lightroom.
Since I am not a fan of this sort of lock-in, (something I despise and encourage companies never to do), I am sadly going to cancel my Revel account once I get this sorted and store my photos elsewhere. This is a huge missed opportunity for Adobe, as the money is not an issue - its simply that the quality of service I need just doesn't seem to be there for this product.
So here is what I am trying to achieve:  I simply want every one of my photos and videos to store on my hard drive like the old days.  I don't care about folders or hirarcy or any kind of organization - I can do that with the metadata later. I simply want all of my things.
My hang up is in that I have already tried methods like "Show package contents" in the photos/adobe revel route and that works to an extent, but is incredibly cumbersome as I have to sift through all of the many folders.  If that were the worst of it, I might be ok.  But what is truly alarming and making this difficult is that I don't know where on earth the videos in Revel are actually stored.  They show up in the application and I could export them one by one but I literally have hundreds.  I can't find the actual files on my Mac anywhere.
Is there anyone at all who can help with this?  The goal is to make this transition fairly easy and I feel that Adobe has very intentionally made it very difficult to consider leaving. I spend >$50/month on Adobe services and I am a little in shock this application seems so poorly designed for anything other than just dropping your photos into it.  Please, please help if you can.  I would be so grateful as Adobe customer service doesn't seem to know or care much about supporting this product.

    Hi KDT
Yeah. I agree, if you are used to a situation where "it's on the cloud AND synced down to your hard disk where you can get it" Revel is not exactly that. There were legacy decisions behind that - most not as sinister as you might think but I won't bore you with those details.  AND yes you are correct. We currently don't have any way for you to wholesale download everything at once. So you aren't missing anything. Until we provide that mechanism I can provide some guidance.
I'm going to assume you have the current version of Revel on your Mac which is 2.0.
The easiest thing for you to do will be to export your files manually. You can actually select a range of files and export. So it's not a one by one thing.
You'll have to decide how best to perform the selection based on your photography habits. If you tend to take batches of files surrounding specific dates. You could do it by date. In the date view (In the applications upper right "Showing: Dates"). If you look at the end of a date row you'll see a small grid. If you click that grid you are taking into a grid view of just that date. If you select all and file>export you'll export the contents of that date.
The other option is remaining in Grid view (In the applications upper right "Showing:Grid") and perform a shift+selection where you select your first file, move down the desired range and while holding shift you select a second file (standard multi-select stuff).
One thing to keep in mind as you do this. You'll notice when you export you can export original or 'current version'. Export original does just that. Exports unedited original versions of your images as they were uploaded to us. When you export the current version of an image we'll export a rendition of the edited image. This "current version" image is not the original and in most cases will be a rendition that is not the same size as the original. So keep that in mind as you proceed.
Not ideal, I fully realize, but I do hope it gets you closer to having your images back on your hard disk as you desire.
As for your subscription. Assure you have checked your iOS Appstore subscription settings and set Revel to not auto-renew. Unfortunately for a pro-rated refund on the subscription balance you no longer desire you'll need to work with Apple as they hold the purse strings for Appstore purchases. Refunds haven't been a problem in the past so you should have no issue.
    Hope this helps.

I had all photos on a Windows desktop.  Got a mac laptop, installed LR5, and put all images from Windows onto an external hard drive.  When I go to import them into LR on the mac, they are all locked.  Help, please!

"I plugged the external into the Mac and moved a folder of images onto the desktop.  It looks like it went from read only to not locked.  Is this possible?"
Yes, that's exactly what happened. If you buy another drive, you could copy from your existing drive to the new and your files will be read/write. The new drive will have to be formatted as an HFS drive (that's the Mac's format). If you need to format it, you use Disk Utility which is in the Utilities folder on your Mac. Be careful with that -- it wipes out whatever is currently on the drive. Make sure you format the right drive.
I keep all my images on an external drive, too. In fact, I have two matching drives and sync them so I always have a backup.

I have previously (and am again) experiencing the same problem as the original poster, except I am able to get the "rebuild" window when I hold down ALT and CMD while starting up iPhoto.
The problem with "empty photos" (i.e. the frames around the photos are there, as are the keywords and filename, but the photo itself is missing). Looking inside the iPhoto folder in the Finder I see that there are lots of image files with file-lengths of zero. So the files are still there, but there's no data inside of them.
I don't know how the original poster ended up with these empty photos, but in my case I was organizing my photos by deleting unwanted ones, creating new albums, deleting unused ones etc.
Then all of a sudden iPhoto crashes!
(iPhoto 5 does indeed seem to be a flaky program as this has happened to me many times when working with a couple of thousand photos or more).
Anyway, when I opened it again the empty photos thing occured.
I'm guessing that the empty photos are indeed the same photos I deleted from my album, but because of the crash, iPhoto hasn't updated its information and still displays the thumbnails of the images, which of course aren't there, and thus shows them as "empty" images.
Now, I would imagine "rebuilding the database" and/or "rebuilding the thumbnails" would do the trick, but I've tried all 4 option available when you start iPhoto with ALT and CMD. Nothing solves my problem. Very frustrating.
And whenever I do something in iPhoto the "busy beachball" shows up for 10 to 30 seconds, causing a lot of waiting.
(To the original poster not being able to get at the options to rebuild iPhoto's files etc: what you need to do is start iPhoto, then IMMEDIATELY hold (and keep holding down) the ALT and COMMAND (Apple) keys. After a few seconds, instead of iPhoto opening up with your images you get a window with 4 rebuilding option. When you see that you can let go of the ALT and COMMAND keys).
If I keep getting these problems and there seems to be no solution other than to dump all the images to a folder on the desktop, then create an iPhoto setup from scratch and manually import the photos followed by the huge task of keyworking them, creating the albums etc. I'm going to look elsewhere for some better working software. This just isn't satisfactory.

I accidentally deleted the "All Photos" album in my Aperture db.
I tried William Lloyd's instructions from another discussion (see here - http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=7323811&#7323811 )
...but that did not work for me:
all I see now under Library for the built-in albums are these:

  • ALL Photos missing after Time Machine restore  (help)

So, I accidently formated the wrong drive while in Windows, (big oops) which gave me the opportunity to take Time Machine for a test drive.
I put the DVD in, and was able to restore from the TIme Machine drive. Very impressed! Everything came back just as I had left it except - whats this? The default Leopard wallpaper instead of a picture of my son? Huh strange, I thought. Until I noticed I had no photos in iPhoto.
There seems to be reminents of photos in the iphoto database - the size is 1.3gb instead of the 7gb it used to be. But 0 photos in iPhoto 08.
I went into iPhoto and choose File/Browse Backups. I selected Nov 8th, which was the last day of my backup and showed all 7000+ photos, and clicked "Restore All". This brought up something odd - a 2nd iPhoto icon in the dock, which showed a progress bar for the restore. Once the restore was completed, I still had a 2nd iPhoto icon the the bar, which was iPhoto running - but no photos in iphoto! I exited the 2nd iphoto, which disappeared, and launched my normal Iphoto icon. Still no photos! (That just seems odd that it would launch iPhoto with a 2nd icon)
So, I moved my iphoto database, and launch iPhoto in order to create a fresh database - thinking maybe that was the issue. I then did File/Restore again, and went through the whole processes again, including the odd 2nd icon. Still, no photos! And another 1.3gb iphoto database!
Is it normal for a Time Machine restore to not include your photos? Surely you are not supposed to restore them separately from within Iphoto?
What do I do now? At this point, everything went very well - except no photos! Which is awful and not at all expected! 7000+ family photos! At least, if I ask iPhoto/Time Machine to restore 'all photos' you would think it would restore 'all photos' - not show a progress bar, and then show me no photos!
p.s. I just tooked at the iPhoto Library. The 1.3gb is in /Data/ which contains folders 2000-2007, my Events, and thumbnails of all the photos - but no actual photos (the 'Originals' folder is missing).
I then went back in time, and found the 8gb iPhoto Library database. I supposed I could copy it over manually via Time Machine, and not iPhoto's Restore/TM - but - i'm so far off track of how this should have went I don't know what to think!
p.s.s. So I did just that - copied the 8gb iPhoto Library manually from TM, and pasted it in place. I help down option, and launch iPhoto, selecting the 8gb library - and BOOM... no photos!
    Something is #$%# up here.

This is what it says in the help file:
Reverting to a previous Mac OS X version
If you’ve used Time Machine to back up your computer, you can easily revert to a previous version of Mac OS X if you’re experiencing trouble after installing an update.
IMPORTANT: Reverting to the previous version of Mac OS X will erase any additions or changes you’ve made to the files on your computer after installing the new version of Mac OS X. To save new or revised files, copy them onto a different disk or back them up using Time Machine before you follow these instructions. Use Time Machine only if you’re reverting to a previous version of Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard), since Time Machine is not available with Mac OS X 10.4 or earlier.
To revert to a previous version of Mac OS X:
Insert the disc you used to install the new version of Mac OS X, and double-click the Install Mac OS X icon.
In the Installer, choose Utilities > Restore System From Backup.
In the Restore Your System dialog, click Continue.
Select your Time Machine backup volume.
Select the Time Machine backup you want to restore. To restore your computer to the state it was in before you installed a new version of Mac OS X, choose the most recent backup.
    Follow the onscreen instructions.
If you backed up any individual files as described under the Important message above, you can restore them now. If you backed them up using Time Machine, recover them using the Time Machine application. (You’ll find the Time Machine application in the Dock or in the Applications folder.)
    Hope this helps
