Yellow Discoloration - A New Switcher's Diary. Serial: 4H621

Hi everybody,
I have dreamed of getting a Mac for years. I decided to wait for the "new iBooks" to come out, so when I set off to college I would have a good, stable system which would service me for years (As I have come to belive Apple products do).
I live in Israel (about 5 mac and counting) And altough our local Mac supplier, Yeda, is known for being.... nasty, I decided to go ahead and order my white MacBook.
Only after ordering it did I see the post describing the Moo's, the glitches AND THE YELLOW STAINES.
Although I got my MacBook a week ago, I rushed to order my InvisShield, and have NOT TOUCHED ANY PART OF THE PALM REST OR TOUCH PAD. I hook it up to my extarnel keyboard and mouse.
I will only use it when I have applied the shield, and log any problem I may have with the Macbook when they accure. This, I hope, will alow new users to get first hand experience on using the MacBook, it's issues and IF THE SHIELD REALLY WORKS.
My Serial number is 4H621 ~ I smoke (a sin according to this forum) ~ wash my hands before every use ~ will only use the Mac with the shield.
- Will it stop the yellowing?
- Will my Macbook, one of thousands sold
be plagued with problems?
- How will the authorised reseller in a small country
handle the issue?
- Will It live up to my high hopes?
I plan to be 100% honest. If It doesnt get yellow or moo, i'll tell you. If I dont wash my hands - I'll tell you.
IF APPLE SHUT DOWN THIS POST - ILL TELL YOU.
According to the rules, I'll end with a question:
Week 1:
Shield:
None
Toouching:
Havent touched any part MacBook yet, aside from opening and closing.
tasks operated:
almost none. keyboard hooked up, havent used it for more then 10 minutes a day, havent launched any application.
Color:
perfect white.
Have I been a good boy:
Yes, havent touched the thing once.
Should I continue with this post, readers?

It's a real shame that this is happeneing really, as design flaws like this ought never to get out of the beta stage.
Still, for me, my MacBook is all about what's under the bonnet, and if that screws up, then it's a straight return. I think that it's nigh on impossible to get a perfectly formed computer anyway, and Apple will have design margins. Still, this yellowing is slightly too much IMHO.
My old PB get so dented and things as I used it to play live and carried it around with me everywhere that I have kind of stopped noticing these things. It got blotchy at the palmrests from sweat. What really mattered is that it kept working right until the day it got nicked, and I pushed that thing very hard indeed.
I guess what I am trying to say is that Macs do cost a lot of money, and so we should expect good quality design, but when it comes down to it, what you are paying for is a very powerful, stable system that you can rely on, and for me, that alone is well worth the price of my MacBook.
Best, Fred

I have a three week old Macbook. The plastic on the palm rest and on the screen bezel where you open the screen has begun to have a yellow discoloration. At first, I thought it was dirty so I cleaned it with the stuff that I used to clean my iBook with and it had no effect (tried several things, a damp cloth, Windex, Magic Eraser). I thought it was some dirt from touching it but then I noticed that it was starting to appear at the bottom of the screen, where I have never touched this thing. I am concerned that there is a problem with the plastic that they made the palm rests out of. It is a different material than what was used on the iBook, I think.
So, does anyone have any insight into what caused this or how to clean it off? I know it doesn't affect how it operates but I don't want a brand new laptop that looks like I chain-smoked three packs a day while using it.

You don't work for Apple's customer relations (PR) department do you?
Hardly. I think you misunderstand me. Firstly, by "minor", I mean that a surface defect is far more preferable for me than the various other defects that I have seen reported here. I have no screen shadow artefacts, I have no whining, I have no "mooing", and my MacBook, whilst definitely hot, doesn't seem excessively so. But let me get this straight: I am well and truly not happy (to put it mildly) that my three week-old MacBook has yellow discolouration of the sort that I would expect on a product at least a couple of years old (especially when my two year-old iBook has no such problems). But on the other hand, I don't want to take it anywhere near the Regent Street store (I have had dealings with them before - the "geniuses" themselves are pretty good, but getting anywhere near them, and actually getting your computer back, is another thing), and I can't afford to be without my machine. I bought this machine so that I could ensure my shareware app is Intel-ready, and frankly I'm scared of trying to exchange this MacBook for one that turns out to have one of the other, worse, problems (and yes, of course it is not really acceptable that there are any such problems, but I need a working Intel machine right now). As for my comment about it being a cosmetic defect about which Apple are unlikely to do anything, I'm merely being realistic - I think it will be hard to get Apple to care about "cosmetic" issues now that they have your money. But like I say, if that's not the case, I would be interested in hearing about it, because I am going to get in touch with Apple Care about this myself...

You are allowed to have two machines with activated installations, so if you only had one installation, you still have the option to install on a second without doing anything further than that.  If you originally downloaded the purchase thru Adobe then you might find a download link available in your Adobe account online.  You can also download thru the following page if you can find your version:
    Download and Installation Help -
    https://helpx.adobe.com/download-install.html
You can have the first installation deactivated to free up the activation and have it available for another machine again as well.  YOu need to contact Adobe Support thru chat for that.  For the link below click the Still Need Help? option in the blue area at the bottom and choose the chat option...

  • Adding a new switch to the network....configuring internet access

Hey guys i need some help!
I am trying to set up my first switch. I am using the catalyst 2950 for learning on.
The network im on right now (the one with internet) has the following settings.
    10.22.227.???
    255.255.255.0
    10.28.43.254
The one i am learning on i connect to it by going to 192.168.0.1 this will allow me into it using the Cisco Network Assistant.
I have a laptop on port 1 using Vlan1 and i have Desktop on port 24 with vlan 1 and i have a cable from our 10.22.227 network pluged into port 23
I am able to see the computers and i can share files on it. What i dont understand being a noob is why i dont have any internet on ether computer.
I have setup up port 23 as a switch.
It seams like to me i would have to give the switch a ip address a subnet mask a default gatway and a dns of the 10.22.227 network on port 23.
Can some one throw some light on the subject and point me in a good direction?

    @de fl
If i go to a computer on the 10. network i can ping and go out and do everything i need to.
But if i try and ping with in the new switch (192) it does not work. I have added an ip address and a default gateway I have added a screen show on how our network is set up.
To me i think i need to add a ip address subnet mask and default gateway to the switch for the new switch to work.

Installing Photoshop CS4 from original Disk onto my new Macbook Pro.  Serial number accepted but now asks for the serial number of a previous version e.g. CS3 which I no longer keep.  How do I resolve ?

Tina Hadley did you migrate/transfer your applications over to your new Macintosh?  If so this could cause problems with your serial number being recognized.  Please run the available uninstallers located in Applications/Utilities/Adobe Installers folder.  Once this is done you will also want to run the CC Cleaner Tool.  Details on the use of the CC Cleaner Tool can be found at Use the CC Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems | CC, CS3-CS6 - http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/cs5-cleaner-tool-installation-problems.html.

  • New Switcher digital video questions

    Hi all,
I am a new switcher as of 2 weeks ago when I picked up a new iMac. So far I love it but I do have a few questions. I imported a TON of miniDV video (150GB). I noticed on one tape that the clock had been set wrong. It now shows up in the wrong folder under iMovie. Any way I can change the files to reflect the right date so it gets put in the right place?
Also, I just tried to run iDVD. It will not run, it seems to just start and quit. Anyone else have this problem?

Unix provides a function known as Touch which will modify the dates modified and created for files. You can learn more about it here:
    http://www.osxfaq.com/man/1/touch.ws
If you open the application Terminal in Applications -> Utilities, and drag the said file after inserting the touch command of your choice (providing a space between the complete command sequence and allowing the path of the file to show up), and then hit the enter key, you will be able to modify the date created and modified on the Finder. I don't know how iMovie sequences its own folders, but that's how to change the Finder info for the file.
If iDVD doesn't work you may have insufficient space to create a temporary file, or something else is the matter. How much free space do you have? Is your new iMac one with a Superdrive according to the box?

  • Trying to install cs5.5 onto new pc, have old serial number...

trying to install cs5.5 onto new pc, have old serial number... but can not find how I even start process. Yes, it is installed on a MAC, where I still want access.

You cannot install your Mac license on a PC. Serial numbers are platform specific. There's no way around that.

  • Adding new switch in my network including Cisco Prime Infrastructure

    hi all,
if I connect new switch to my network, can I let Cisco PI to apply a specific template of configuration to this switch automatically?
how can I do that ?
    thanks in advance

    Hi,
    i followed these steps :
    SWITCH SIDE
    - configured Prime Infrastructure as snmp-server host;
    - enabled snmp-traps for linkup and linkdown events globally;
    - disabled snmp-traps for linkup and linkdown on non relevant interfaces using the no snmp trap link-status command
    PRIME INFRASTRUCTURE SIDE
    - under "Deploy/Monitor Deployment" i deployed template "Interface Health"  for all the interested switches
    -  under "Administration/System Settings/Mail Server Configuration" configured my internal SMTP server to make Prime Infrastructure able to send e-mails
    - under "Operate/Alarms & Events" click on "Email Notifications" , then on "Switches and Hubs"
       - check the "critical" box ,  insert the destination e-mail address into the "To" field then click "Save"
     -  check the "switches and Hubs" box and then click Save
As i know is possible to avoid to configure every single not-interesting port on the switches with "no snmp trap link-status" command (it's a bit annoying when you have tens of switches), using Port Grouping configuration on PI but i tried it without success.
    Hope this helps.
    Best Regards,

  • I have cs5 on my home mac. I had it on my old mac laptop. I deactivated it then went to reinstall it on my new laptop and my serial number does not work. Any help?

I have CS5 photoshop extended on my mac home computer. I had it also on my mac laptop. I deactivated it from my old laptop and tried to install it on my new laptop and the serial number would not work. Any thoughts?

David o"bryan did you migrate/transfer any files/folders/applications to the new Mac laptop?  You can verify that your serial number is valid by checking under your account at http://www.adobe.com/.  You can find more details on how to locate your serial number at Find your serial number quickly - http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/find-serial-number.html.

  • One way ping through new switch

    NetTechMike wrote:
If a ping works one way, then it is almost always the firewall on the end of the connection
PING isn't a one way traffic item. It is bi-directional.
The ICMP echo request goes out and the reply is what you see at the command prompt when you get a "reply received"
So, if PING really is replying with a proper response and not a "destination host unreachable" then there isn't a thing wrong on the routing side, it'll be the firewall.

Hello!A few days back we installed a new switch (HP 1620-24G JG913A) for a new office inside our building. The switch is connected to the same one in our server room. The computers inside the office are functioning perfectly as far as the users are concirned. They can use network printers, open helpdesk tickets, access the intranet, internet, etc.
However, even though everything was functioning well in the old office (the machines are the same ones), nothing going the other way can get through. They can't be pinged, Spiceworks doesn't recognize them (although they have agents installed), and, well, that's not nice. The two switches are configured identically, and googling for the solution hasn't turned up anything usable (for me). For now it's not a big issue, but I'd like to solve it, so that it wouldn't become a problem later.Any help...

Just wondering if there is any way to tell a refurbished macbook from a brand new macbooking using the serial number?
    Thanks

So what I'm wondering is if I purchase a macbook online from them there's no guarantee that it's new??? It could be a refurb?
No, if you buy a new MacBook it will be new. If you go to the page and choose a refurbished computer, then you'll get a refurbished computer. There is no way to check the serial number until it arrives. If you went to an Apple retail store, the serial number is on the outside of the box. You could ask to see the box before you pay for it.
