Yellow "minimize" button disappears. randomly. all apps

I've had this problem for as long as I can remember.
Randomly, the yellow minimize button (between the red and green buttons) on the
top bar of my apps gets grayed out, and no longer works. There's no
pattern to it - it's pretty random, and often happens to
several apps. Have not found a way to get it back, aside from
exiting and restarting the effected app(s).
When the app starts, all 3 buttons are present and working. At some
point, yellow fades to gray, and it's gone.
Sounds like an Aqua bug, but a very long-standing bug.

I have had this problem forever as well; all with Leopard. I've never installed WindowShade, but I do run Parallels 3.0 from time to time. I've never correlated this goofy and very annoying behavior with Parallels... The problem seems to creep in and out every day, usually affecting iCal, Mail and Firefox more than anything else (all at different times). I have correlated this with Spaces; the buttons typically come and go with more movement between spaces. Interestingly, if a yellow button disappears, I really don't HAVE to quit it to get the button back; just wait and sometime later after unknown operations it will be back. It always comes back if I quit the app and relaunch, but it will disappear again after a while.

I'm not sure what provokes it, but for some reason the middle yellow minimize button at the top left disappears from safari windows. I noticed it also happens to the ichat buddy list. Can anyone tell me why this is/how I can fix it? Restarting it fixes it, but only temporarily and I don't want to have to restart it everytime. The red X button and green + buttons are still there and functional.

I do not see how it is going to help. I have the same prob. Any help is appreciated.
In the Displays pane of System Preferences, change
the monitor's bitdepth to thousands of colors, or
millions of colors if it is currently at thousands of
colors; if you have the display control enabled in
the menu bar, you can change it here as well.

Minimize button disappearing?

hello all..saw this question and it has not been answered, so i thought i would try again. why does the yellow minimixe button disappear or gray out on the browser window? this makes it impossible to minimize many safari browser windows i have open. i have to restart safari to get it back. any help would be appreciated....thanks.

I saw it too last year and newer versions seemed to have fixed it.
You can still use Command-M to minimize the window.

Occasionally, the red, orange and green minimize buttons (see photo) disappear from the upper left of my tool bar. The only way I've managed to restore them is to reset all the default settings, which is time consuming. Is there an easier way to get these buttons back when they disappear? Screen mode doesn't seem to do it either.

How do I turn off the automatic full screen feature that makes the top bar (with the minimize buttons) disappear?

I just downloaded Firefox 4 on a Dell laptop with WinXP. When I'm in a browser window the window resizes automatically and the bar at the top (with the minimize, full and close buttons) disappears. When I drag the cursor up to the top the window resizes again and that top bar appears. Makes me crazy. How do I turn it off?

I'm not aware of the behavior you're describing. I've never seen it, and just tested it for myself. I cannot get windows to zoom to full screen just from moving them to or along the top of the screen. Is this only happening in Photoshop? If so, it may be a Photoshop issue. If not, have you installed any kind of third-party software that might be doing that? Try rebooting in safe mode and see if the problem persists then. If it doesn't, but comes back when you reboot normally, the problem is caused by some third-party software you have installed.

TS3274 I use to be able to shut down apps as to not kill my battery by pushing the button twice and all apps running appeared at the bottom of the screen. Then i could turn each one off at a time. Now how do I do that with the IO7?

Before IO7, I would control the life of my battery by shutting down the apps. I would push the main button on the front twice and all apps that were running in the back ground would appear on the bottom of the screen. I could click on each one to shut it down. Now, I can't seem to figure out how to shut them down. Please help if anyone knows what to do.

2. Swipe the app's windows upwards to close
3. The app will fly off the screen

When I open Messages on my Macbook Pro (OSX Mavericks 10.9.3) it opens all gray except the yellow minimize button. It doesn't let me start a new chat or access my preferences because everything is grayed out. How do I fix this?

I saw another chat about this and tried deleting the "com.apple.ichat.plist" file they suggested but it did not do anything. Any other ideas?

A simple solution...
After much troubleshooting, I have isolated the issue with the greyed out "Messages" app menu. The problem is due to the truetype font Apple Gothic missing which is required for the AppleID login window when you first launch Messages. You can just hit skip when the dialog box comes up, but until you do so the full messages menus are not available. So to fix, just drop AppleGothic.ttf in <bootdrive>/Library/Fonts and Messages 8.x should launch correctly. Apple should have really included this font in <bootdrive>/System/Library/Fonts since it is required for one of their Apps
Many people in the prepress or graphics arts fields will likely run into this issue when they customize fonts.

The yellow minimize button on my firefox has disappeared.

The circle is still there, but it's grey, and doesn't work. The close and maximize buttons are still there and work. This is for a Macbook.

Go to "~/Library/Preferences" and remove the plist file for Firefox (org.mozilla.firefox.plist)

Acrobat 9 - Toolbar Buttons Disappear - Not all in the group..

I am running Acrobat 9. I previously had the Comment & Markup Toolbar completely expanded to the toolbar section of the program. Now, 5 buttons have disappeared and I cannnot add them through the More Tools function. The most urgent is the Pencil tool (It is odd that this tool is still accessable through the drop-down menu). When I try to add that button to the toolbar specificallyin the More Tools option, it is not even listed as available to add (the pencil eraser is though...).
I have uninstalled Acrobat and reinstalled it to no avail.
Of interesting note, when I load Adobe it is visible for a second and then it disappears.
If any one has any advise or experience with this issue, I would appreciate you support.

Do you not see the toolbar in the standalone version of Acrobat or when a PDF is open in your browser?
Have you tried resetting the toolbar and/or performing a Repair on your Acrobat installation?

Windows 8.1 apps exit and minimize buttons

The close and minimize buttons disappear after 3 seconds in windows 8.1 apps and don't come back i used alt+tab to exit the app
does anyone know how to fix this

You need to move your mouse to the top of the screen and then click the
Close button in the title bar.

The yellow minimize button on Safari has disappeared and now I cant minimize any pages. How can I get it back?

Missing Minimize Button (Greyed out, anyway)

Lately, I've noticed that many times my mail application's yellow "minimize" button is greyed out. The way I can minimize the application is with the apple=H (Hide) command. Then, later on, when I bring the application back on screen, there is the yellow minimize button.
I put this post in the mail thread, because that was the only application so affected. But this is not really true, any longer. I do notice it, but far less frequently, on iChat and Skype too.
Anyone know the causes and cures of this? Not really the biggest deal in the world, but it is an annoyance.

I also experience this on many different applications, from Safari, to Mail, to Adium. It is indeed very frustrating and is always solved by quitting and re-opening the application.
I (and many of my friends) have had this occur in all different point releases of Tiger and I'm also seeing it in Leopard 10.5.1

The minimize button is the only button that appears !!!!!

I am writing a java application and I encountered a problem. In fact the JFrame under windows is working perfeclty but when I run it on a unix machine using cygwin some buttons of the JFrame don't appear such as the close button, in fact the only button that appears is the minimize button. Has anyone encountered this problem before?

Try a reset: Simultaneously hold down the Home and On buttons until the device shuts down. Ignore the off slider if it appears. Once shut down is complete, if it doesn't restart on it own, turn the device back on using the On button. In some cases it also helps to double click the Home button and close all apps BEFORE doing the reset.

Bring All App Windows to Front Setting (?!)

Please tell me I changed a setting somewhere and this can be fixed.
If I have twenty windows open - and I want to get back into my two pages documents - what is supposed to happen when I click on the Pages app icon in the dock?
The only information I know at the moment is that I /know/ Pages is open because I see the little spotlight under it in the dock. I can also see the TOOLBAR PULLDOWNS for Pages.
HOWEVER, there are no minimized icons on the right hand side of my dock for these OPEN DOCUMENTS. Which I understand because they are not minimized I guess...
Is this a problem in terms of how the OS is set up? Is there a setting somewhere that will clear it up?
Why don't my two open documents automatically pop to the front? And how on God's Green Earth am I supposed to know they are there if they don't identify themselves somehow?

AFAIK, when you click on the window's yellow minimize button, the minimized window reverts to a Dock icon. I use Unsanity/s WindowShade X prefpane, which changes the app's Window->Minimize behavior. You'll just have to experiment.

WIll apple ever make it so you can delete all apps in multitasking without deleting one at a time?

I think it's annoying when you have to delete a app at a time in the multiask bar. It would be good if they made it so there is a button saying delete all apps in mutlitasking bar. It would make me and probably many other apple users happy. It would save a lot time.

With some notable exceptions like audio apps that actually run in the background, most apps on the task bar are not actually running. They are not actually doing anything, just sitting there in a suspended state until the next time you execute them by bringing them up on the screen. There really is no need nor reason to be constantly clearing them away.
