Yellow Pages on phone

I have been trying to find an IP phone service that would allow me to display and search the yellow pages database. Is there such a thing out there?

I've been trying to do this too. Or enable 411 as a service from the phone.

  • IP Phone Service SDK Yellow Pages url error

I am trying out the sample ip phone services applications in the IP phone service SDK, the standalone ones seem to work fine, but most of the ones that connect to the internet such as the Yellow Pages Application and the Weather application give errors ranging from 404 page not found to service URl Error errors once it tries to access the internet. It seems that the last url that the service tries to access over the internet is invalid/outdated, etc. Does anyone have any recomendations or a fixed copy of these apps that actually work that they can share? I downloaded the latest 4.1.1 SDK, of which the only services that access the internet that seem to work are the Cisco Stock ticker and stock quotes. The others all seem to be really buggy. Anyone have any thoughts?

    Hi David,
What firmware are you using? Do you have 8945s on the other sites? I found a bug, but I'm not sure it applies to your description:
    CSCty58000 Bug Details
8945 freezes when directories is pressed
    Symptom:
8945 freezes when directories button is pressed.
    Conditions:
This issue happens when the phone load is 9.2.3 and the directories URL doesn't contain port number.
    Workaround:
Please use http://X.X.X.X:8080/ccmip/xmldirectory.jsp for the directories
    URL instead of http://X.X.X.X/ccmip/xmldirectory.jsp
You can try upgrading to firmware 9.3(1)
    Regards,
    Tere.

  • Access to Yellow Pages service from IP phone

    Hi,
Does anyone know of a Yellow Pages service that can be accessed from the XML browser on a 7941/7961 IP phone.
I have a customer that wants to be able to find taxis, pizzas etc. from their phones.
Any advice on how to do this is most welcome. I am based in England but would be interested if anyone anywhere has tried this.
    thanks

Sounds like answer supervision problem. The far end pbx/switch doesn't send back answer supervision.
Try configuring " voice rtp send-rece " to cut through the
    rtp stream ealier.

  • Online Yellow Pages Listing, Good?/Bad?

I'm sure some of you guys must also own some kind of business. I was wondering if any of you have tried advertising with any of the Internet Yellow Pages companies and if it got you much business? Most of mine has always been word of mouth and just a small advert in the local Yellow Pages. However, DEX handles the Yellow Page accounts for our local phone company which is AT&T, and they for some reason have started listing me (and charging me $45 a month extra) in their online Yellow Pages too now. I don't remember ever authorizing this and I'm in the process of getting it removed.
There are other online Yellow Pages that have me listed for free. I don't remember ever getting a call from a customer who said they found out about me online though. But I know more and more people are dropping their land-lines in favor of cell phones, and those people won't get a directory from AT&T, so I'm wondering if very many of them will look at online directories? There are other local free directories that get dropped at every door in my area besides the one AT&T puts out too. I'm guessing that most people with a cell phone will just use those most of the time. So right now I'm thinking that I may have to start advertising in that one also. But I can't imagine the online directories will do me much good. Are any of you getting much business from them?

    Charles,
Check very closely regarding the DEX online subscription. Contact your DEX business representative and discuss the matter. I think most of the US is handled out of the Denver, CO office, but your rep might be elsewhere.
The reason that I suggest this, is there is a scam afoot. The call comes in from someone telling you they are with [insert your local phone service provider here], but they are not. The caller goes on to say that they are just updating your free listing. At this point, verification of your business name, address and phone number will be read to you, for you to verify. What usually happens then is the caller asks for your name, and usually asks for you to repeat it. Now, one of two things will likely happen:
1.) caller says that they [insert your local phone service provider here] have partnered with an online listing service to defray the cost of the free listing. You will be asked to listen to a sales talk from a representative of that partner company, and some innocent questions will be asked. You will be constantly reassured by the original caller, that you will be under no obligation to acquire this extra service, and phrases like, "I see that you do not currently have this service, so we'll not add anything to your bill. You do not have to authorize the service, and when you hang up, nothing will be added to your bill." This is bogus and trust me, something WILL be added to your bill from [insert your local phone service provider here]. It'll usually appear in fine print on the last page, or so, of your bill.
2.) caller takes down your name and then uses that, plus the verified info to add an online service (often billed as Web hosting) to your account. A recording of your call will have been made, and when you contest your signing up for the service will often be played back via a conference call with your service provider and this third party. You'll be surprised at what that recording has in it.
If you did not sign up for the DEX (if it really is - check the billing carefully and do verify with your DEX rep.), you can contest the charges. DEX knows about the scam and between them and your telephone service provider, will work hard to not only get this stopped, but to remove all charges. A few phone calls to both DEX (first) and to your provider, will likely result in a credit.
Now, to your question: I do not advertise in the Yellow Pages (any flavor), nor do I do any online Yellow Pages ads. In 38 years, I have never gotten one job that came from even my free listing in the business section of any Yellow Pages. I've only had two legit meetings with callers over that time, and maybe six "stiffed" meetings, that wasted some time.
Were I doing weddings, events or portraits, I'd view the Yellow Pages advertising differently, than advertising work. Because of the calls, based solely on my location, I almost wish to do a small ad, stating, "I do not do weddings, events or portraits," just to keep those calls to a minimum.
Good luck, and first read your AT&T bills very closely, followed up with a call to DEX and then to your AT&T rep. Phone companies are caught in a federal loophole, where they are responsible for third party billings. All it takes is a caller asking for innocent data from you, like business name, address, phone number and carrier, and then your name.

  • Where can I download the Apple yellow pages widget?

I recently had my HD replaced and the yellow pages widget is now gone. I can't find it on the Apple Dashboard widgets web page either.
Can someone tell me where I can get it? It was one of the most useful widgets I had.

The "Business" Widget is part of your OS X system /library/widgets and you can use Pacifist to extract and install just that application from your install disks.
Or you can email me and I'll send it to you.

  • Best way to store info for Yellow Pages-type site?

I'm working on a site that is similar in concept to a "Yellow
Pages"-type setup, where you have a bunch of business listings with
each of them able to customize their own profile.
Each business will be able to save standard things like its
tel, fax, address, description, etc. There would also be a list of
specific checkboxes for each business, such as "Delivery
Available", "Open 24 Hours", "Now Hiring", etc. Also, businesses
with multiple locations will be able to save these locations with
their own specific tel, address, and other info. Lastly, they will
be able to customize their listing to match their corporate look.
Whereas the searches will of course be database driven, I'm
having trouble deciding which of the following ways to display a
specific business information on their actual specific profile
    pages.
    Database-only: Everytime any info
about a business is needed, it's pulled via a database call.
XML: Create a single XML file for
each business (named after its ID) with all of the business info
and styles, load it, and pull from there.
Hybrid: Use database calls for the
business' text information, but create a CSS stylesheet named after
the business' ID for use in the business profile's layout.
Which of these would be most efficient and have the least
    server impact?

I apologize - I should have clarified the XML and hybrid
    options. Let me do that:
The customer's information will be stored in a database. When
they go to edit their information, the editors will populated from
the database. However, once they hit "save" the site will write an
XML file with that information. If they update again, that same
    file is overwritten.
Now, everytime someone visits their profile, the profile's
characteristics and info are pulled from that XML file. The intent
is to take a load off the DB so it can perform better for searches,
updates, and other truly dynamic features for the site. My feeling
is that there's no need to hit the database for the company
profiles since it's information that would normally change pretty
infrequently. For up-to-the-minute information (news, search
results, forums, etc.), however, i would continue to do direct
database calls via cfc's or whatever.
My basic question is: what is easier for CF to do: 1) Parse
an existing static XML document or 2) query and pull the
appropriate info from a live database?
Keep in mind that this site will eventually have thousands of
businesses and a lot of activity outside of their profiles (event
    schedules, news, reviews, etc.).

  • Do Web pages for phones have to be Apps?

I do not own a mobile phone that is web enabled, and I never designed a web page for phones, but now due to the steep learning curve, I need a quick fix.
Reading the help in Dreamweaver 5.5, there is lots of information about creating the best  mobile sites, though at the moment, I don't understand a lot of it - but that's my fault.
However, when I use someone else's phone to look at most existing sites that are just designed for computers to view, the phone has facilities that make the sites available.
Lots of zooming and such which is a pain, but you usually can view them.
It occurred to me that perhaps there is a position mid way between a stock web site and a fully fledged phone app could be a stop gap solution until the whole mess of media queries, and other phone related stuff is understood.
My suggested solution is as follows:
Provide seperate sets of pages for both types at suitable sizes ( max 320 wide for mobiles).
Keep all graphics for phone pages to a minimum size and well optimised to allow for quick page loading.
1.On the index page of the site, put a large link to the phone pages and one to the computer pages so that its easily seen by phone users
    2. Design the index page and all phone pages so that the content would fit on a 320 pixel wide screen.
    3. Have the first page after the index purely as the menu screen, with a list of links.
    4. Each link leads to a deck of stacked pages that that are serially linked back and forth, with a "return to first page" on each one, with the navigation being at the bottom (or the top?) of the page.
To view pages, the phone user would have to select the phone link on the site's index page, then select from the menu to get to the first page of a topic. He can then flick through the linked set of pages and go back to the menu from any. The pages would fit most mobile phones, and no phone specific stuff wopuld be needed.
I appreciate that this method would not provide the most sparkling of mobile web sites, and would require two sets of pages, which is a maintenance problem, but it ought to help phone users to surf my site until I can get up to speed with the mobile stuff.
Question is - would it work?
    Your comments please?

Frankly, if you simply do a website using HTML5, you're set for a mobile device. And Dreamweaver 5 and 5.5 both give you code-hinting and definitions for HTML5/CSS3.
jQuery would be the "app" side of that, though if you are really looking to make an application that works on a mobile phone, your best method is to do it in Flash and then compile it using Air. Adobe has a complete discussion of what's required here.
    Hi mhollis55
Could you tell me why you describe the jQuery mobile framework as an app?
The framework uses html5, css3 and ARIA, and is designed to make the creation of mobile friendly web pages easier for those who do not wish to commit themselves to learning all the mobile specific features required by modern smartphones and now even supports many of the older smartphone devices, see - http://jquerymobile.com/

  • Verizon 411 Business Listing: White or Yellow pages?

    Hi-
This is first post and I hope I can get some help.
I have started a new emergncey business and I want to get on the Verizon 411 National Database.
Almost all of my calls would be first time customers because it is emergncy calls and people
would be calling and asking for a general listing and not asking for my business by name.
Do I want to be in the "white pages" or the "yellow pages" of the Verizon 411 National Database.
    Thanks you for your time!
    Donny

I talked to someone in Customer Service and got a run around. I KNOW it
can't be changed in the paper directory but CAN in 2016 Yet....I was told
it would be changed 3 yrs ago. So how can I trust ATT&T to do it? In
fact, I was NOT listed in the white pages directory 3 yrs ago as far as I
recall so I don't know WHO authorized this listing except maybe the
business owner at Catherine Ct. who could be getting MY patients? At least
    MY bus. # is listed!
My proposal to Customer Service was to GET THE LISTING OFF ONLINE white
pages and Yellow Pages...NOW!! I see it's still listed under Catherine Ct.
after a week. I will continue to check and check and check. This is
uncalled for after this period of time! My IT lady went thru ALL the
websites, listings, etc. where I was listed. I personally had cancelled
the YP ad and the lady was very understanding and I have not been billed,
thankfully!! I would think with the 'wonderful' world of computers, this
    should never have occurred.

  • Anybody have any experience working with full color Yellow Pages ads?

I designed a full color ad for our business in InDesign for the yellow pages. I send them a PDF and they send a proof back with a bunch of stuff screwed up. I talked to our rep and she sent me a PDF showing all the file requirements. First off, they want me to be using Illustrator to build the ad. I don't use Illustrator for typesetting. Also, they do not accept PDF files, only EPS files from Illustrator.
So.. I'm trying to find a workaround. They want all fonts converted to outlines.. so I'm in InDesign doing that, but a lot of my text has fairly thick strokes on it and when I convert that text to outlines, it completely screws up the text because of the stroke. Any idea how to get around that??

I had the same problem with NO PDF when placing our yellow page ad (and yes, we get more responses of "we found you in the yellow pages" than any of our online ads so we keep up with it).
I ended up designing in ID, exporting EPS, opening in Illy and resaving as the illustrator eps version they required.
Your font out-line problem is hard to work around, and why I try not to use strokes on text that will be converted to paths. The work around is to break the compound path, use pathfinder to punch the appropriate "holes" back where the belong in the type (technical word is escaping me, it's the end of the day)and then re-apply the path. The wonkiness happens because when you convert-to-path the interior shapes of the font become separate, and therefore an outlines applied to the outside, for example, is now on the wrong side in context of the font shape.
I'm explaining that very poorly. Hopefully you catch my meaning.

  • Yellow Pages and Traslator Widget Problems

    Hi All,
This is my first post and I moved over to the Mini about 6 weeks ago. I was wondering if anybody else is experiencing problems with widgets. Weather is working fine but neither the Translator or Yellow Pages is working. I'm based in London and I've tried both my postcode and city in Yellow pages but it won't locate anything. The translator basically won't translate anything at all. I upgraded to Tiger 10.4.3 about three weeks ago and all is working fine for everything else. Any suggestions?

I hope this isn't too far off topic but for some reason the "Yellow Pages" widget that came with my new iMac doesn't find anything. I worked great the first time I tried it. I downloaded another white pages and it seems to work. Anyone else having this problem with the Business yellow pages widget?

    Hello Bill-D:
For what it is worth, I just pulled a yellow page widget into dashboard. It seems to work for me.
Have you tried dragging a new yellow page widget into the dashboard?

  • Widget yellow-pages not working....

Does anyone out there have this issue?
All of a sudden, my yellow pages widget (something I use all the time) stopped working on my MACBOOK. It works fine on all my other G4s, G5s and dual intel machines; I don't know what to do...
When I uninstall and reinstall it, it comes up looking normal for about 5 seconds, than the search box disappears and is replaced by something that looks like a stack of cards on the yellow back ground; nothing on it works.
    Any ideas?

  • Canadian Yellow Pages Widget???

    Hi all.
I am trying to find a yellow pages widget (extremely convenient) that has listings for CANADA. The only one I can find on the Apple sites is the one that comes standard with Tiger and it does not have listings in Canada (from what I have tried anyway..) I am looking for places in Windsor, Ontario..This is a large city...so the location is not the issue. Does anyone know of a yellow pages widget for Canada or even something else similar that I would be able to simply type in a business name and get contact info quickly?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks
