Yellow Red White connections on Old Sony DVD

Can I connect Apple TV to the Yellow - Red - White input connections on the Video input (Aux Video 2) of the Old Sonly DVD surround home theater?
Second, can I correlate the Y R W connectors from Sony to the R B G jacks on the Apple TV?
Do I need another type of cable to connect Apple TV to Sony video?
Do need to connect an Audio pair of cables in addition to the (3) wire component video setup?
Failing these possible solutions, what cable(s) should I purchase? I live close to an Apple Store!

Connect Apple TV to your widescreen TV via an HDMI cable (sold separately). This single cable delivers both audio and video. If your HDMI port is in use, or if your TV doesn’t have an HDMI port, connect using component video cables with analog audio cables or with an optical audio cable (all sold separately).
You cannot do it with just the YRW jacks. At most you will just get black and white. If you don't have a media center that has the right ports or a tv with the right ports, not much you can do but upgrade one of them.

  • Connecting a Sony DVD player to Sony STR-DH750 AV Receiver with RCA cables

I have connected a Sony DVD player with RCA cables to  Sony STR-DH750 AV Receiver at the VIDEO inputs. I get audio, but no video. How do I connect the DVD player to the AV receiver to get both audio and video?

    Hi JB4,
Are you using HDMI cable in addition to your RCA connection? This HDMI cable is from the receiver going to the TV using the HDMI OUT port. Another option, you are using the RCA yellow + red&white right? you may connect the yellow cable directly to your TV if it has yellow port for video.
    Thanks.

  • No connection with FW - Sony Handycam to MBP

I just connected my old Sony Handycam to my new Macbook pro i7, but it doesn´t seem to detect the camera. Doesn´t matter if I use iMovie, QT, or Final Cut Express. I have a cable with iDV connection on one end and FireWire 800 on the other end. In FCE it says "Unable to locate the following external devices: Apple FireWire Pal (720 x 576)". I am using Pal since I am in Europe. In system profiler I get the message "Warning: Unable to list FireWire devices"
The same camera used to work fine with both Final Cut Express and iMovie with a FireWire 400 to iDV cable on my old iMac G5.
I have already tried restarting the MBP, turning the camera off and on, unplugged the cable plugged it in again etc.
I can not find any driver online for this camera, it is a Sony Handycam DCR-TRV33E.
Any ideas on how to make this work?

The connection of cameras designed to be connected via 4 pin to 6 pin (fw400) cables seems to be increasingly problematic when switching to the 4pin to 9 pin (fw800) cables. The usual troubleshooting steps apply. Try a different cable, try a different camera and/or try a different computer.
Can you take it to an Apple store and try it there?

  • Itrigue 5.1 5600 & Sony DVD Player Advice

    Can anybody help.
I really love the look of the Creative Itrigue 5600 5.1 Speaker Kit and was hoping to install in my living room as a home cinema solution.
Will it connect to my Sony DVD Player through its single digital connection ?
Are the speakers any good in this type of setup ?
Can I extend the cable length if necessary ?
Do I need any additional bits ie decoder or does everything i need come in the box ?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Cheers
    Karl.

    Karl,
This DVD player only have digital output and stereo analog line out. There's a few option available for you. If you are bend on getting the I-Trigue 5600, you can either get the decoder that I have mention earlier to help decoder the signal from the DVD player to the speaker or you can connect the speaker to the stereo line out RCA jack from the DVD player Line out section. After which, use the CMSS upmix feature that's inbuilt in the speaker system to upmix the stereo sound to a virtual 5.1 surround effect. This of course isn't true 5.1 channel from the DVD sources.
Another option would be to get a digital speaker system like the Inspire GD580 that have the ability to decode DTS and Dolby without additional set of decoder box.

  • Why can't I connect iPod to car stereo with red/white RCA cables?

I have red/white/yellow RCA (I think that's the name of them) plugs in my car stereo and I bought a cable to connect it to my iPod. It's the small plug (3.5 I think) on one end and a split 'Y' that's red and white on the other. The people and my car dealer connected a cell phone that is also a music player to it and it works, but it won't work with the iPod connected. The dealer thought it should be able to work with my iPod, but doesn't know why it won't. Are iPods able to connect to a car stereo this way. Is there another special cable that I need to get?

No, I should think that would work fine. I have a splitter like that connected to my hifi and no issues...you would want to make sure the volume on the iPod is up all the way; I don't know what car stereo you have, but possibly it's a setting on there that isn't right?

A crude but effective way would ,assuming the Sony has an AUX in ,
    is a stereo bluetooth receiver
plugs into aux and recives music over B/T from
the iPhone etc ,as used by many in vehicle

  • Hi,  im trying to hook up my mac book 7,1 to an older tv with red white n yellow cables.  is this possible.  if so what would i need to buy?

HI again.  im trying to hook my mac book up to my tv.  its an older tv that has hook up for yellow red n white cables.  if this is possible please tell me what i need to do so.  thank you

If you want to use the Composite input on your TV there’s no Mini DisplayPort to Composite. The only adapters with Composite are the older Mini-DVI adapters. (Composite is the red, white and yellow RCA plugs on your TV or red, white and S-Video plugs.).
You’ll could try a Mini DisplayPort to VGA adapter http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_i_1_19?url=search-alias%3Delectronics&field -keywords=mini+displayport+to+vga&sprefix=mini+Displayport+to
And then a VGA Adapter to TV S-Video RCA Out Cable for PC Video. http://www.amazon.com/VGA-Adapter-S-Video-Cable-Video/dp/B000Y7T5UU/ref=sr_1_7?s =electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1316369974&sr=1-7
I don't know if that would work but it's the only way I would know.

  • FINALLY! Mac mini to old Sony WEGA tv success!

After having tried several different setups I finally got it working.
My late 2009 Mac mini is now hooked up to my old 27” Sony WEGA Trinitron TV.
They magic/missing link was the “VGA to RCA/ S-Video/VGA Converter” from MonoPrice ($27.51).
I used a mini display port to VGA adapter ($13.47, but can get them cheaper) from my Mac mini to the converter and then from the converter to the tv using a standard composite (yellow RCA) cable. Then another cable from the Mac mini audio port to the red/white ports on the tv. Started up the Mac mini and all was good...almost.
The resolution on the tv just isn’t good for text, and it’s often difficult to read, but the main reason I’m using the setup is video. Hulu, YouTube, TWIT live, etc. All of these have picture quality equal to that of the tv hooked up to cable tv. I tried changing the Mac minis display resolution, but found the default setting of 1024 x 768 works best for video. I have a 2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo iMac in my office. I just turned on Internet Sharing on the iMac and turned on Airport on the mini to get the wireless internet connection. No Base Station/Router needed. I have a bluetooth mouse, and an Apple wireless keyboard. I can now sit back on the sofa and enjoy!
This isn’t a permanent solution, but until I can upgrade the tv, it will do just fine.

is it apple branded or an off brand?
I bought it through amazon. NOT Apple branded. The seller was Global Source. There are other sellers on amazon that are less expensive, and some that are more expensive. I’ve heard of people having problems with some cables, so I didn’t want to go with the cheapest one, and settled on a mid priced cable.

  • Insignia tv and sony dvd/vcr

I purchashed an Insignia tv and I have a sony dvd/vcr, the tv came with a cable with 5 connectors.  I got the dvd to work but the vcr will not, do you think that it is not hooked up right or that maybe I need the cable with the red, yellow and white connectors only?  Any suggestions?

My dvd/vcr combo even though its one unit  it still requires 2 separate connections.  One for the dvd player and one for the VCR.  The dvd player is hooked up through component outputs and inputs (blue, red and green plus red and white audio or a digital optical or coaxial connection.  The vcr is hooked up through composite or the yellow connection and audio through red and white.

  • External firewire sony dvd burner

    Hi guys:
Well, I'm trying to do a few things with my kid's old G3-400 imac (OS X 10.3.9), and so far I'm only to about first base. I picked up a cheap sony dvd burner & put it in a firewire enclosure. At first wasn't recognized at all, but running PATCHBURN fixed that. Now itunes will burn a cd which is nice. My problem, tho, is getting a DVD to play. I don't have mac's DVD player (system came pre-loaded wthout it), but have read somewhere that may not matter cuz it only works with internal dvds. I've also tried VLC media player.....no luck.
Anybody got an external DVD player working with older hardware & OS like this???
    TM

I just connected my FireWire/USB 2.0 external Memorex 16x DVD±RW drive (drive manufactured by Lite-On) to a FireWire port on my iMac DV-400. The drive needed a PatchBurn profile, but I'm watching a DVD movie on it right now. It plays as smoothly through the FireWire connection as it does on the internal DVD-ROM drive, without a single dropped frame or any audio anomalies. As for using Pacifist - it's comparable to using WinZip to open a Windows CAB file and extract an individual file. You will need the Panther installer disk to extract the DVD Player program from it. For years, Sony's optical drives have been/are rebranded drives, manufactured by well-known companies. Their retail-boxed DRU-190A DVD±RW drive with the black bezel is manufactured by a different company than their more expensive, retail-boxed DRU-840A DVD±RW drive with the white/silver bezel (and additional black bezel). Unless you do some research, you never know what you'll get when you buy the "Sony" name.
