Yellow Screen Issue Can be Resolved

I have resolved my yellow screen issue and improved my display greatly by doing the following:
Settings>Brightness
Turn Auto Brightness to "Off"
Increase the the brightness by moving the slider to the right.
I had a first gen iPhone and when I saw the display on my 3G- my initial response was - This screen display must be defective. Now I know that the factory setting is just to low and my display is fine.

So I've heard a bunch of things about how the yellow screen is supposed to be the way it is, which is fine, but does anyone have anything to say about how not all the screens are the same tint? My boyfriend and I both got iPhones yesterday, and each one has a slightly different tinting to it.
There are (at least) two versions of the firmware, with slightly different colors.

  • Maps app is hanging on a yellow screen. Can I reinstall somehow?

I can kill the app, relaunch, and I get a yellow screen with the page curl on the bottom right, and several buttons on the edges, but nothing else.

Sounds like the 'white screen of death'.
Try rebooting your phone. Take the battery out for a few minutes then re-insert battery and see what happens. It may take some time to reboot. There have been numerous "fixs" for this problem, but until RIM come up with a definitive answer to stop it happening, then really theres nothing we can do except try some things. The battery pull has been offered on a few forums and some say it worked for them. Worth trying again.
    You could always try THIS
but that seems a bit extreme, but may work if the reboot doest. Do you remove the battery whilst its still on? thats how you normally do a reboot. take batt out whilst powers on. Sorry if this doesnt help, but i know theres people all over the net that get this issue.

  • TTIMDB Connection issues: Can't resolve a non-optional query descriptor property [DSN]

    Hi there,
We currently have the 11g TTIMDB plugin deployed in our EM10g instance without issue and looking to migrate to 12c.  We've installed/deployed the 12.1.0.2.0 plugin into our EM12c instance and deployed it to 12cR3 agent on our TTIMDB dev server.
When adding the TTIMDB target in the same manner it's deployed in 10g, the connection tested fine to the DB however the target is showing down with the following errors.....
    1. Under Monitoring > All Metrics we get this... "The TimesTen database is down: [data source/db name] is not loaded"
    2. Under Target Setup > Monitoring Configuration we test the connection, and though testing the connection when first configuring the plugin worked fine it's now failing... "
Response; Can't resolve a non-optional query descriptor property [DSN] (DSN)"
Any thoughts on what may be causing these errors?
    Thanks,
    Steve

Maybe you are confusing the main daemon running (TimesTen instance is up) with a specific database being up? When you install TimesTen you create a TimesTen 'instance'. This instance has several daemon components the most critical of which is the main daemon. When the main daemon is running the instance is 'up' and when the main daemon is not running the instance is 'down'. An instance may manage several distinct databases concurrently and those may each be up (in memory) or down (not in memory) independently of each other. In order for anything meaningful to happen within an instance the instance must be up.
The default behaviour for TimesTen is to load a database into memory when something connects to it, to maintain it in memory while there are open connections and to unload it from memory when the last connection is closed. This can be useful for development and testing environments but is not necessarily the best choice for production environments. Generally, in a production environment, you should set the database(s) to 'manual' ramPolicy:
    ttAdmin -ramPolicy manual DSN
then you can explicitly load the database into memory (i.e. start up the database):
    ttAdmin -ramLoad DSN
and, when all connections have been close, you can explicitly shut it down:
    ttAdmin -ramUnload DSN
Many customers find this a better way to manage production databases than the default behaviour.

  • Green/Yellow screen issue? (Not blobs, whole screen discolouration)

    Hey there,
I know there has been many websites posting about the yellow blobs that have been appearing on the new iPhone 4's retina display as a result of manufacturing issue.
However, my entire screen seems to have a much 'cooler' tint that my previous iPhone 3GS or MacBook Pro screen. This is my second iPhone 4 (the first didn't vibrate) and the screen appears the same - unfortunately, I'm a tad OCD and would just like to confirm this is how the screen should appear. When I visited the Apple Store, I didn't have time to compare to other handsets on display.
It's not dreadfully green/yellow, but white appears much cooler than I'd imagined. The 'blue' top bar on apps such as Safari, Messaging and Email appears more green than blue.

It doesn't appear to be in blobs as the sites describe though.
On a pure white screen, the entire screen shows no trace of defects - it is all the same colour with no localised discolouration, it appears white. It just appears as if the screen itself is 'cooler' (I can't find any other word to describe it) - it just appears to add a greenish hue to the screen, specifically items that appear grey, blue or green.
I'm just curious if this how the Retina Display is supposed to be? I know with each successive iPhone, the screen became warmer and more yellow, I was wondering if Apple have decided to go cooler in this approach.

  • Something That May Be Interesting About The Yellow Screen Issue

I was comparing my 3G and 3GS and have also been experimenting with looking at the color of the 3GS in different lighting environments. There was one situation where it appeared to be a little yellowish or warmer than the 3G, but mainly it is just not as bright as the 3G.
I compared them again this morning and the 3G seemed much brighter. Both had brightness set to about half way and auto brightness was set to on (on both phones). I decided to set the auto brightness to off (on both phones), and noticed that the 3G display dimmed and the 3GS display brightened. Now they look so close to identical that I can't really tell the difference between them at all.
I have noticed that a lot of folks seem to be having this issue and would like to ask that if you are having this issue... Please do a similar comparison and post your observations in this thread.
I notice that the display on these phones change in different kinds of light, and have read that the 3GS now has auto white balance, so maybe it has something to do with this.
I am not saying that this is the problem, but just something that I have observed over the pas couple of days.

I've noticed this as well. I posted a thread about it but got very little response. So I'm not sure if were experiencing an isolated issue or if it just doesn't bother anyone else. I'm planning on taking my phone in to a genius soon for the weird tri-tone & other alerts problem & was going to also ask about the screen then. My screen NEVER appears yellow, but it is so dark & dreary when compared to my 3G both using the same settings.
If you want to see something stranger, go into a completely dark room, like a hall bathroom, unlock & open both phones, notice the brightness (both phones set to auto-brightness). Next turn on the light & watch both phones brighten up, this is one of the very FEW times my 3GS actually has what I feel is a proper brightness level. Unfortunately it goes away once you lock the phone again. It would be great if this was fixed with a software update, but what if it's a phone problem & were past the 15 days? I'm going to take my old phone & compare to the other 3GS in the Apple store.

  • 21.5 inch iMac yellow screen issue

I have a late 2012 iMac (21.5inch). I thought 21.5 models were immune to this issue, but I noticed bottom half of the screen is showing some yellow tint compared to upper half. I thought it was due to the angle of the screen and lighting in my room but that changed when I put my MacBook pro right next to my iMac. Compared to my mid 2009 MacBook Pro, the iMac's screen has a definite yellower time to it..
How much will it cost to replace the screen to eliminate the yellow tint? Please, no replies about taking my iMac to Apple store or calling them. I've already called several different Apple stores, and they have no idea. And please, no Applecare answers or "expensive" answers. I just want exact numbers.

The in-store inspection, product specialist or in-house expert, then technical testing to diagnose the exact cause of the issue, then if done in-house, a repair sequence initiated with an open estimate on what replacement parts would actually be needed, could alter the original best-guess somewhat.
A simple backlight or inverter issue may be all that is causing the symptom. Nobody can simply give you a base price of one size fits all. They will not just 'replace a display' since the panel is more than just one part. If a voltage variation is the cause of partial tint or backlight color, then that will be part of the inspection and diagnosis; this may be in a shop for weeks.
Please stick to one question on the same topic
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5919757?tstart=0
You appear to have an issue with Apple, so there are
a few good links to their main web site. You can go
and Locate an authorized service nearby, contact an
Apple authorized representative, etc, there. We who
reply here have no direct connection, nor do we have
any authority, cannot cite prices or give quotes, etc.
And our time is our own, individually. We're not Apple.
You will have to contact Apple. You have a computer.
I will not do that for you, from my residence, half a
world away where I have no more access to a Store
than a moose, or a ptarmigan, outside my door.
    Good luck.

  • Has Apple said anything about the yellow screen issue?

Because I just walked into an AT&T store for something and I looked at two demo units, both at the same brightness and settings, identical everything (3GS 16gb black), and one was yellow as ****, and one was pure white. Mine, unfortunately, is yellow.
The salesman also thought it was weird and said that if Apple would exchange it, I should do it. But since this would be a defect, I technically have the whole year, right?
    Thanks in advance.

I've been following this topic a bit since I got my 3GS 32gb right on the release date through AT&T pre-order.
I never thought anything about the color temp of my screen when I got it. I thought it looked just fine. I pulled out my old 1st gen iPhone and powered it up to compare the color temp of the two screens. Sure enough, my new 3GS had a definite warmer tone. But it was OK. White is white if you're only looking at one screen. In fact, I think the warmer tone looks better, I guess.
The other day I stopped in to my local Apple Store to pick up an accessory. After I finished I remembered to compare my 3GS with a 3GS on display. Sure enough, every 3GS on display had the bluer looking cast as opposed to my 3GS's yellow cast.
I got the attention of a salesman, resplendent in his orange t-shirt. He came over and I showed him what I was about to get at. The difference in color temp between their display and my phone. He played dumb and that really ****** me off. He acted as if he had never heard anything about varying color temps on the screens. He said "Oh...do you mind waiting a few minutes and is it OK if I take your phone to someone out back?". "Sure, go ahead" I replied. So off he went with my phone.
He reappeared a few minutes later claiming that he asked the manager about this and the manager compared his own phone with mine and that the MANAGER'S phone was even warmer than mine. I already knew that there was no chance I was going to get my phone replaced. I did'nt even really want it replaced, but I was being treated like a dummy by this guy and his manager. I then said to him "Well, in that case, Apple's quality control really *****. It's like saying that the factory that produced your orange t-shirt can't get the color straight from your t-shirt to that guy's t-shirt over there" as I pointed to another salesman a few feet away. The other salesman looked at me and smiled. He knew where I was coming from but of course couldn't get involved. My salesman replied, "Well the iPhone is made in different factories and there are also differences in the glass from factory to factory. I can set up an appointment at the Genius Bar for you if you like." Like that would do any good. There's no color temp setting on the phone. What good would that do?
I knew the whole thing was pointless and it didn't really matter. Granted, it may have been cool to have a replacement with the bluer tone, but it was no big deal.
What ticked me off the most was that I was treated like an idiot. The salesman wouldn't even acknowledge the issue. As if Apple had communicated to the staff not to acknowledge any problem issue with the iPhone.
OK....it's a mass produced cell phone...made in China at that. So I guess QC is going to be pretty bad in areas like this. I'm just very suprised that Apple would be like that. It's one of the reasons I switched from PC's to Mac many years ago. I thought Apple cared a bit more about their clientel.
So please Mr. Jobs and crew. Don't treat me like an idiot.

Yes, I know it's free if I have Applecare. I just want to know how much Apple will charge if I don't have Applecare.

If you don't have AppleCare, it will be probably pretty pricey (just to get them to open it up!).
If any past experience with iMacs doing similar things, it is probably one of the backlights they use for the screen.
That AppleCare does pay for itself when things like this happen.
Except for RAM, there are no user-serviceable parts in iMacs.

My I pod crashed and now displays a blank yellow screen i can't switch it off what can I do.

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iPod fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • SAP Query selection screen issues after ECC upgrade

    Hi all
We have a custom query created and assigned to a custom transaction code, which after upgrade to ECC 6.0 we find that the selection screen layout is different from what was available in 4.6C system.
All the fields required are available.
However, the sequence of the fields on the screen is different from the 4.6C after the upgrade.
Can anyone help identify the issue so that the issue can be resolved?
    Thanks
    Vinodh S

    Hi N_niki
There is no resolution as such.
We had raised a Customer message with SAP and were informed that this was expected as the procedure to execute the reports was changed in ECC when compared to 4.6 (technical changes) and hence this issue shall remain for some queries wherein the old changes need to be brought back using an option in the SAP Query.
Please refer to SAP Note # 723577 which could provide a better explanation for the issue.
    Hope this helps.
    Thanks

  • Weird Mac Pro (early 2008) screen issue

    Hello,
I have the brand new mac pro 2008 standard config and I have various issues where the screen went a little strange and everything froze and I had to reboot, has descripted in this thread : http://forums.macrumors.com/showpost.php?p=4804504&postcount=1
It seems that we're many to have the same problem with the new mac pro and HD 2600 XT.
Any news from Apple about this problem? Any hope to be software fixed with 10.5.2?
    Many thanks for answers,
    Jules

I have the exact same issue on my 2008 Mac Pro; there is at least one other thread on similar problems here, and quite extensive coverage of the issue over on www.xlr8yourmac.com
Having gone through much the same freezing issue with an Al iMac a few months ago I strongly suspect it's the ATI Radeon 2600 card at fault. Apple fixed it on the iMac with a firmware update (which unfortunately will NOT apply to our Mac Pros), and it's pretty disappointing they did not think to test rigorously for the same problem on a card which is basically identical but with a faster core and memory spec.
I have tried all the usual fixes: clean install on a freshly zeroed drive, Repair Disk & Disk Permissions, running Cocktail or Onyx, re-seating video and RAM cards, etc. with no joy; I can have days of freeze-free computing, and then 2 lock-ups within 5 minutes, followed by days with no problems again. It does not seem to be related to intense graphics use, heat, or any other of the "usual suspects."
Others with similar issues please post and especially anyone who has found a genuine fix. Personally I think a firmware update will be necessary once Apple realizes there is a problem although some report the issue can be resolved by turning all Energy Saver functions off. I did this 48 hours ago and have not had a freeze since but it's really too soon to tell... can't hurt, however.

  • "screen shot can't be saved" and other permissions issues

After having my iMac at the Apple Store for four days solving a problem with "quit unexpectedly" issues with all Apple built-in Apps on OS X Yosemite, I got the machine back with those problems solved.  It involved re-installing OS X and restore files from backup.  I thought all was well; the Genius Bar dude showed me that it's fixed. He said it took so long because of bizarre permissions issues he'd never seen before.
Now that I've lugged this 40lb machine back home (after verifying the fixes in the store) I now find that several (other) functions don't work.  When I try to do a screenshot, I get this message:"Your screen shot can't be saved.  You don't have permission to save this file in the location where screen shots are stored."  Message could have been more helpful; the "location" is the desktop.  Pretty descriptive, though.  Seems I can't save anything to the desktop.
I tried creatng a folder on the desktop.  Got this message: "Finder wants to make changes. Type your password to allow this".  Type password and new folder appears.  Drag the new folder to the trash, get same message..
I tried copying a file from a network drive to the desktop. I get this dialog: "Modifying Desktop requires and administrator name and password.  I clicked "authenticate" and after a 3 minute delay (with "Preparing.." ) I get this dialog; "Finder wants to make changes.  Type your password to allow this".  I type the password and the file appeared on the desktop.  Before the work at the Apple Store, this never happened.  BTW I have only one user account and it's marked "Allow user to administer this computer".  Thinking something might be goofy with the pw, I changed it (took 3 minutes to do, oddly) and rebooted. No joy. Same thing happens when I try to drag something from the desktop to the trash.  Long time "moving" message followed by having to provide and admin pw.
I tried to save a Safari attachment to the Downloads folder and got this message: "Safari could not download the file xxxxx because there is not enough free disk space".  Since I have more than 600GB of available space, I think the message is wrong and that it's really a permission issue with the Downloads folder.
Tried to reset the password again.  Click to unlock the Users & Groups panel, get "System Preferences is trying to unlock Users & Groups preferences.  Type your password to allow this".
All this tells me that somehow Yosemite is in "nag" mode (reminiscent of Windows Vista.
    Any ideas?

Back up all data before proceeding.
This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership, permissions, and access controls to the default. If you've intentionally set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it, but you do need to follow the instructions below.
    Step 1
If you have more than one user, and the one in question is not an administrator, then go to Step 2.
Triple-click anywhere in the following line on this page to select it:
    sudo find ~ $TMPDIR.. -exec chflags -h nouchg,nouappnd,noschg,nosappnd {} + -exec chown -h $UID {} + -exec chmod +rw {} + -exec chmod -h -N {} + -type d -exec chmod -h +x {} + 2>&-
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window by pressing command-V. I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, you may have to press the return key after pasting.
You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The command may take several minutes to run, depending on how many files you have. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign ($) to appear, then quit Terminal.
    Step 2 (optional)
Take this step only if you have trouble with Step 1, if you prefer not to take it, or if it doesn't solve the problem.
Start up in Recovery mode. When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
              Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open. In that window, type this:
    res
Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
    resetpassword
Press return. A Reset Password window will open. You’re not going to reset a password.
Select your startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
    Select
               ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.
