Yellow Triangle - Startup Volume Not Mac OSX Journaled

I have a Dec07 MacBook Pro, currently running 10.5.8, with the original 200GB hard drive. I was using PGP Desktop, but not the WDE feature. I am running Fusion 2.0.5 and Vista64.
I have used Tech Tool Pro 5 to repair the primary disk, etc., but nothing changes. I finally decided that the problem might be the eDrive feature I was using in TTP5. I removed it, but it did not regain the space that was being used. Instead, it is showing two partitions, but lists the old eDrive partition as Free Space.
Is this my problem in installation? When I ran the fsck -fy routine the first thing that popped up was "Checking non-journaled HFS+ volume". I don't know what that means.
I currently use Time Machine on an Firewire 800 link to a 750GB External HD. However, it has three partitions. I have SuperDuper and ChronoSync as well. If I wanted to wipe out and start fresh, how do I clone the existing drive?
Thanks in advance for the help.
Joe

The partition slider is not available for the MacBook Pro drive, only for my external drives. I have also tried after booting from the Mac OS/X disk as well as the Tech Tool Pro 5 disk with the same result.
After contacting MicroMat it appears that there is an Apple OS/X problem with Tech Tool Pro 5 where the release of the TTP5 eDrive does not return to the default of one single partition. Instead, it remains as two partitions, but the former eDrive is now considered "Free Space". As such it is not accessible. In fact it does not even show up as a second partition unless I boot from the DVD.
Since it appears I am left with no choice but to reformat the drive, I will have to use SuperDuper to clone the drive. I have some questions and hope you can answer them for me.
I currently have three partitions in my external FireWire drive. Do I need to eliminate them and only have one for the cloning of the MacBook Pro drive or can I duplicate it to one of the external drive partitions? Will it work with a USB drive as the external drive? What about an eSata drive? How do I make sure that only the primary partition, not the "Free Space" partition, is being duplicated? Do I reformat using the existing 10.5 version of OS/X or the Snow Leopard DVD?
Thanks.

  • My MBP read DVD/CD but NOT Mac osX installation DVD (tiger or Leopard)

    Hi,
I read a lot of discussion but I didn't find the same problem.
So I have a MBP 15", 2.16Ghz intel core duo, and 2 Go RAM.
I have the 10.5.8 version installed, and I want to erase the disk and do a re-install of 10.5 because I've got some bugs :
    - my MBP starts really slowly (about 15min),
    - it bugs when I suspend the activity (black screen, nothing works... I have to push the "ON" button a longtime to stop the mac, )
    - and other ponctual bugs.
The problem is that my MBP don't read the installation DVD (leopard or even Tiger).
It reads the DVD, I heard that the DVD turns, but after 3/4 try, the MBP ejects the DVD.
But It reads Blank CD, DVD (many zone)... Only the installation DVD is not reading.
    I've already try :
-to begin in safemode (with SHIFT button => it is not ok)
    - to push "C" key" at the restart (it's not ok, the MBP eject before blue screen.. it seems that the MBP is waiting to eject the install DVD to start)
    - to create an other account (not ok)
    - to restart the V/P RAM 5 times (not ok)
So, Is there a solution ? If the Mac can read sometimes CD or movie DVD, that mean that the otpical drive isn't broken...
    I'm waiting your help
(sorry if there's some english mistakes !)

So, I've tried to start in target disc mod with a firewire.... Not lucky, I can read in the "information System" that my firewire is not recognized. It's weird because I can charge my ipod with firewire, but the target mode doesn't work !!!

Do you have some solutions... I still not re-install MAC OSX... and I haven't an external HD (not in shop too !!)

  • Firefox not Mac OSX Spaces friendly - There is no right click option to open a new window in the curent space.

Other browsers (Safari and Chrome) allow you to open a new window in the current space by right clicking the dock icon and choosing 'new window'. Firefox does not have this option in the right click. You must go to the other space that already has firefox open, create a new window there, and then drag it to the desired space. Please add the ability to launch a new window in the current space from the dock icon right click menu.

I have gone to the link that you supplied . In the task manager-- ending the entry for Firefox.exec did not resolve the problem.
I located my profile in the start menu In the run tab And entered %APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\as instructed.
I received a cannot delete parent file is corrupted or unreadable. I then ran the Chkdsk (check disk )and tried the process again with no improvement . I have uninstalled Firefox, and redownloaded It. Still no improvement. I want my Firefox WHAAAAAAA

  • Mac OSX wont reognise my internal hard disk drive

I have a problem where for some reason when I start up my Macbook Pro (intel core duo) it does not detect the internal hard disk drive at all. I have run a hardware test and it shows no problems whatsoever. I have tried resetting the PRAM etc and to no avail. Yesterday the system hung and I tried to force quit and it wouldn't do anything so eventually I held down the power key and when it tried to reboot this is the problem I was faced with (it would boot up with the "no entry" sign). I accepted complete defeat and went to completely re-install OSX however it doesn't even show the internal hard drive when I wait for it to give me install destinations. I had tried seeing the hard drive through disk utility however it only shows the install DVD and that's it in the sidebar. I resigned myself further to thinking either the logic board or the HDD had packed in all and I took it round to my brother in law to see if there is anything he could do without opening the machine (he is Oxford educated and writes programmes etc so is very knowledgable), now this is the part that has miffed us both, he started it up using a Linux disc and once running, Linux see's the hard drive with no problems. He has been able to access the HDD with absolutely no problems under Linux both reading and writing to it. I even took my Mac Mini round and he booted them both up in Linux and completely copied Mac OSX from the mini to the macbook pro but still when I try booting up its as if the HDD isn't even there. Why can Linux see the drive and not Mac OSX? Please don't be affraid to get very technical in your answers as they may mean nothing to me but will probably all make sense to my brother in Law. Any sugestions at all would be greatly accepted.

    Dear mcdkev,
You guys may have made a big error cloning the Mini HD into the MBP. They both have very different drivers and hardware settings and their OS X versions are customized to fit the hardware. That is why each mac comes with it's own version of OS X and their backup disks. That's a reason why it did not work.
Ok, so now that you do not have any of the original info on the MBP try the following:
Use linux to scan the disk surface & repair any problems.
Reformat the drive as DOS or FAT 32. (I wouldn't go into any linux specific format unless you can "Apple" format it, which I don't think linux has that option.)
Now, the MBP should be able to see it's drive...
boot from the OS X DVD , from the Utilities menu choose Disk Utilities, partition the drive as GUI file system (in case the linux format made the drive a "system boot record", you do not want that... )
Then format the drive as "OS X Extended Journaled"
Now go back to install and install your original basic set of OS X (the factory default).
*If nothing works, please do take your MBP to the Apple store or to a certified tech before you do more damage to the drive and it becomes unusable ...*

  • How do I enable the startup sound on Mac OS 10.2.8(Jaguar)

    Three things
1.How do I enable the startup sound on Mac OS 10.2.8(Jaguar)
I am using an iMac G4
I like the startup chime of mac osx but it doesn't seem to be chiming when I turn the computer on.
    2. How do I get safari+flash player  on 10.2.8
    3. How do I update the computer (e.g. Windows update kind off thing)
    Please help.
    Cheers,
    Mittens131

    1. Make sure the volume is on. Check that the machine makes other sounds.
    2. Here is a link for Safari for a Mac 10.2.8
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2964
Though I'd be surprised if it would be very useful. Things have changed a lot on the internet since that came out. An old version of Firefox might be better. I don't know where you would get an old version of flash. It is an Adobe product.
    3. There are no further updates to  Jaguar 10.2 than you already have, 10.2.8 that was the last update.

  • WAN Miniport (2) suddenly appearing with yellow triangle icon

Last week I was called to troubleshoot a Lenovo Thinkpad that could not connect to the network. Device manager showed the Realtek NIC, a Centrino wireless adapter, Teredo Tunneling adapter, and six listings for WAN Miniport adapter, all of these items with
the yellow triangle and exclamation point. It was not possible to update the drivers, because no network connections were available. Even a wired connection would not work. Whenever I tried to run the troubleshooter, I got the error that the Diagnostics Policy
    Service was not running.
After much googling, I eventually tried uninstalling the network devices and rebooting to have Windows reinstall them. This didn't work, as soon as I tried to use the driver, the yellow triangle came back. Finally I decided to reformat back to factory settings.
After reformatting, I was able to add the laptop back on the network, with both wired and wireless connections working. In Device Manager there were listings for Bluetooth adapters, the LAN adapter and wireless adapter, and a single WAN Miniport adapter.
I disabled the option to allow these devices to turn off the computer.
I was able to browse the network and get online to update software.
After I left to do something else, I came back and the laptop display was off, so I had to hit power to bring it back. I logged in, and the wireless connection had dropped. I was able to reconnect, but that shouldn't have happened - it's unusual behavior.
I went to Device Manager and now there are two WAN miniports, and #1 has the yellow triangle and is not working. #2 is working. Again I went to the power options and disabled the option to allow the adapter to turn off the computer.
Now I am wondering what's going on, and if the problem actually is hardware-related and not driver-related. Why was it working OK yesterday and now I'm getting errors again? Is this possibly a hard drive issue? The laptop is less than 2 years old.
    I'd appreciate any advice.

    Hi,
Firstly, about "I got the error that the Diagnostics Policy Service was not running.", you could start this service to clear up this message:
    1. Type "Services" in the start menu search box, press Enter.
    2. In the Services window, navigate to the following one
    3. Right click "Start" button to make it running.
The next, about the WAN miniport issue, do the following:
    1.Open Device Manager.
2.Right-click the WAN miniport (Network monitor) device, and then click
    Update Driver Software.
3.Click Browse my computer for driver software.
4.Click Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer.
5.Clear the Show compatible hardware check box. From the list than select something that can be removed for instance Microsoft -> Generic Mobile Broadband Adaptor. and click next.
    6. Back in the device manager, delete the device that just turned into the “MAC Bridge Miniport” device.
    7. Once done removing the bad miniports, restart the computer.
    Finally, check the result.

  • Yellow Triangles

ok  i understand that now i have a yellow triangle on my voiceover because I have move a the content or its corrupt so how can i retrieve it /repair or  find it

    Hi there,
Just to expand on what PhillyPhan noted. The yellow triangle is a low resolution warning, meaning the quality of the print size you are odering may not be satisfactory due to low resolution of your uploaded image.
Here's a list of recommended resolutions:
    4x6 - 640x426 pixels
    5x7 - 1050x750 pixels
    5x6 Photo cards - 640x480 pixels
    8x10 - 1280x1024 pixels
    8x12 - 1536x1024 pixels
    11x14 - 1600x1143 pixels
    12x18 - 1600x1066 pixels
    16x20 - 1920x1536 pixels
    20x30 - 2272x1500 pixels
    Wallet prints - 419x279 pixels
Keep in mind, that you can use a high resolution image to make a small print. Even though you get a yellow triangle, that does not necessarily mean you will get a bad print...

  • On Mac OSX: Acrobat printing of Office documents adds border!

    Hi
On Windows, when I print a Powerpoint or Word document with the Create PDF command, it does not add any border on the printed version. For example, if a slide had a yellow background, then the entire printed page in the PDF version would be yellow too.
But in Mac OSX 10.5.4 (latest Leopard) using Office 2008, when I print a Powerpoint, it still adds the white border.
How can I prevent this on OSX? I have tried to look at settings but no option seems to be available.
    Thanks!

Have no idea if you are talking about Acrobat or Reader. There is no Adobe program. In any case, do a repair to the application and see if that helps.

  • How to get rid of the yellow triangle?

    Hi
I have recently cleaned up a folder with lots of footage in on an external drive. This is because lots of the files were not used in the final cut, and I wanted to free up some space. Now only the files used in the final cut are on the drive.
BUT - it shows on the event folder within FCPX that there are missing files. I have deleted the shortcuts in finder, and deleted the files within FCPX, which were showing as offline. But the yellow triangle still will not go away. WHY??
    Thanks in advance!

That toolbar/ct plugin causes problems for all who install it!
Close Safari, then locate and delete the following files and it should be gone:
    /Library/Application Support/Conduit
    /Library/InputManagers/CTLoader
    /Library/Receipts/ctloader.pkg
    /Library/Receipts/<Toolbar name>.pkg
    /Library/Application Support/SIMBL/Plugins/CT2285220.bundle
    /Users/<User name>/Library/Application Support/Conduit
where / is the root library on your Hard Disk.
If you are running Snow Leopard you should also look here:
    Library/launchAgents/com.conduit.loader.agent.plist
    Library/Application support/conduit plugins
Note: Safari does not support any third-party toolbars except those supplied as an extension to Safari via the Extension Gallery.

  • ADO Driver For Mac OSX?

    Hey All,
I am working on building an application in RealBasic that will run on both PC and Mac. The app needs to connect to a MS SQL database. On the Windows dev side I would normally just use an ADO connection, but I haven't been able to prove definitively whether or not Mac OSX has an ADO driver (or supports that type of connection out of the box). I know I can use DSN connections, but I hate the idea of having to set those up on each machine the app gets installed on. Is there an open source, freeware, or inexpensive ADO driver for the OSX platform? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

  • Mac OSX install disc 1 won't work, it says "no bootable device" and a black screen

My macbook came already with snow leopard, so I have the osx install disc and the applications install disc. So I'm meant to put in the osx (ie install disc 1) install disc which lets me install bootcamp, which I do, and click on "start the windows installer" and "start installation" in bootcamp assistant, however every time I restart the computer to try installing bootcamp it just says in white letters across a black screen "no bootable device" and "insert boot disc", which I have already done!!
Am I missing something really dumb here, or is my disc faulty?

    From this guide
    http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/Boot_Camp_Install-Setup_10.6.pdf
Step 4: Install the Boot Camp Drivers for WindowsAfter installing Windows, install Mac-specific drivers and other software forWindows using your Mac OS X installation disc.
The Mac OS X disc installs drivers to support Mac components, including AirPort,built-in iSight camera, the Apple Remote, the trackpad on a portable Mac, and thefunction keys on an Apple keyboard.
The Mac OS X disc also installs the Boot Camp control panel for Windows and theApple Boot Camp system tray item.
To install the Boot Camp drivers:
1  Eject the Windows installation disc.
2  Insert the Mac OS X disc.
You have to be running your Windows OS (not Mac OSX) when you add the drivers from the Mac Install disk.

  • Mac does not show startup volumes

Hello, I've got a problem with my MBP!
It's the latest model (Core i7) and I'm using it with an Intel X25-M G2 SSD (160GB).
On a third partition of the SSD, I installed Windows 7.
    (a little gaming, a few win-only applications)
Booting Windows (or from CD/DVD) should be possible by holding down ALT.
This worked fine for years on my old devices - But this does not work with my new MBP! Holding ALT during startup ends with a grey screen showing nothing! Without ALT, my MBP boots OSX. In the System Preferences I can choose to reboot to Windows (or from a CD/DVD). This works without problems, Windows boots...
But why can't I select my bootdevice by starting with ALT down? Any Ideas?
And please don't tell me to install reFit! I'll never do so!
I'm asking because I'm a little afraid of what to do in the case of reinstalling OSX to a broken/empty Drive where I can't select my bootdevice from within the running OS...

I definitely do not need to modify my Mac that way.
Selecting the startup-volume is possible without refit, or at least should be and works on many many Macs I know/own.
As long as a feature is provided by any "preinstalled Tool" I wont use 3rd party. If a feature is missing I write my own program - but I'm not going to write my own bootloader...
So why does my 2010 MBP have problems with showing startup volumes when booting with the "ALT"-Key?

  • External hard drive not recognized in imovie 09 - ! - in a yellow triangle

i'm new to imovie and want to save space on my hard drive by saving files in an external drive
    - i'm only able to import to the computer hard drive... not to the external hard drive.
    - i can archive video files from the cam to the my external hard drive (500gig passport)
    - when i go to import to the the same external drive... the drive is not available in the +"save to"+ drop down menu...only the computer hard drive.
    - the external drive shows up in the +"event library"+ window, however it has an +"exclamation point ! in a yellow triangle"+
    help!

The external drive must be formatted as Mac OS Extended (journaled). If you drive is currently formatted as FAT32, you can re-format it using Disk Utility in your Applications/Utilities folder.
If you have any current data on the external drive, be sure to back it up before formatting. A format will erase all data that is currently there.
To reformat the drive, open Disk Utility and select the drive. First Partition the drive using GUID (if you have an intel mac, or using Apple Partition Map (if you have some old Power PC macs that will need to access this drive). A single partition is OK.
Then reformat this partition as MacOS Extended (journaled).
