Yellow vertical line on 2009 mbp screen

I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem I have a 13" mbp 2.53 intel core 2 duo late 2009 model and the screen has recently developed a small yellow vertical line about 4 in from the right side of the monitor its obviously a screen issue because when its plugged in to the tv the line doesn't follow i have had this thing for less that two years and did not buy the apple care i have owned many apples and i'm kinda disappointed about all this especially because of how much this thing cost.

If you are in the U.S. and they won't cover it under AppleCare, these shops are often less expensive.

Your only argument might be if there is no physical damage to the machine, and you can tell them you have never dropped, nor let anything heavy lean against the machine, nor bumped the machine, nor over-extended its hinge, nor spilled anything into it.  Then it might be arguably a manufacturer defect that AppleCare could cover if you still have AppleCare.   If you didn't get AppleCare, let this be a caution note, that you have up to a year to purchase AppleCare to extend coverage for a full 3 years from date of computer's purchase.

  • Start up white screen yellow vertical lines

    hi
when i start up my iMac it loads with a white screen with yellow vertical lines and apple logo with download bar loading then goes to white screen.

Sounds like a hardware failure. Run Apple's Hardware Test 2-3 times back to back in extended mode. If any errors appear that confirms the hunch, the ONLY thing to do is take it in for repair.

  • Vertical lines running down the screen

I am seeing a few vertical lines running down the screen, from top to bottem. They are quite thin (one yellow, one purple and one light blue). Do you know what causes this and what the cure is.

  • Vertical line appearing on my screen

today I started having a vertical line appear on my screen. It flickered on and off for a while and then came on for good. I can't seem to get this to go away.
By doing a simple search I've found that this is a cable defect in the product and that Apple is not addressing the issue claming this is from overuse and the cable just deteriorated - Surprise you get to pay $700 to have this fixed. This is crazy!!! These computers are supposed to be the Mercedes of the computer world! Not the Yugo that falls apart after you drive over a large bump! I've only had the computer for a year and half!
I'm posting this here to see when Apple plans to address this growing problem.

  • Blue and gray/black vertical lines on start up screen.

At start up my 2008 MacBookPro brings up a blue and black/gray vertical lines covering the entire screen. It has a large image of the power button and tells me "You need to restart your computer. Hold down the Power button for several seconds or press the Restart button". We've tried that. It restarts, makes the start up noise and gives the same prompt with the same blue and gray vertical lines in the background. Any idease on what our problem is?

  • What can I do about the vertical lines on my iMac screen?

For the past few days there have been 2 lines, one a solid, definite white, the other faded toward the bottom.  It's been almost 5 years since I bouight it, so out of warantee, but isn't there some solution, other than (ouch) buying a new one?

Had the same problem but with red vertical line to right of screen. Called support and was told this was either a problem with screen itself or video that is displaying lines on screen. Support was very patient and talked me through shutting down mac then holding down certain keys ( I forgot which ones) as I turn the power back on.  Try calling support. Hope this helps.

  • Yellow Vertical Lines on Desktop

I have a 10.4.11 OS X version. I recently got 2 yellow vertical lines on my desktop display and need to know how to get rid of them. I reset PRAM and that did not work. Any advice is appreciated.

What model Mac exactly (I don't even know if it is a laptop or desktop)? Have you tried using a different monitor to see if it is the monitor?

  • Thin vertical line running across my screen ...

Out of nowhere I suddenly have a thin vertical line (yellow/blue - depending on background) running across my screen. Restarting didn't help, turning on the computer and pressing command, option, p, r didn't help either.
Anyone got a clue? I would so hate to send it in for repair

it did need repair ... ;-/. But they fixed it within 24hrs.

  • When i open my computer I get the white screen with apple symbol and there are vertical lines all over the screen with green pixels and after a few minutes the screen gets grey and I get message to restart my computer what happens

3 years ago I bought an IMac Desktop that I am using for a lot of things but the most important for dvd montage in Imovies and Idvd.
Now today when I opened my computer I get as usual the white screen with the Apple symbol but there were all over the screen vertical lines with green pixels and after a while the screen gets grey and I get message to restart my computer using the power button or the restart button and when I do so each time the same is happening somebody can tell me what is happening and what caused this. This computer is my work and now I have no income anymore.
On the Apple support site they are asking to enter the serial number and when I do so I get message it is wrong but it is the only one I have and I buy this computer in Cairo Egypt. I am living in Hurghada in Egypt for the moment. When I call the technical support of the shop where I buy it they are telling me that it is the hard disk or ram and that I probably lost everything on it and they are asking a big amount to repair.
Can somebody advise me on this matter. Thanks in advance

You can find the serial number either in About this Mc in the Menu bar under the , or it should be on a sticker under the foot of the machine.
If you have the install discs, try booting from them, holding down the c key and then using Disk Utility to check the drive.
You can also boot into Safe mode
To start up into Safe Mode (to "Safe Boot"), do this:
       1. Be sure the computer is shut down.
       2. Press the power button.
       3. Immediately after you hear the startup tone, press and hold the Shift key.
Tip: The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone but not before.
       4. Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple and progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
During the startup in Mac OS X 10.2 through 10.3.9, you will see "Safe Boot" on the Mac OS X startup screen.
During the startup in Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you will see "Safe Boot" on the login window, which appears even if you normally log in automatically.
    Please post back with results,
To leave Safe Mode in any version of Mac OS X, restart the computer normally, without holding any keys during startup.

  • Vertical lines on LCD - Black screen, goes white, fades to black again.

My 1Ghz G4 15" Imac is having LCD issues. It is in perfect working order, boots, runs fine on an external monitor via the adapter in back. I've read tons of issues with the black screen, but this sure looks a lot like a damaged cable issue, similar to an iBook when it starts to fail from wear. When the iMac is started, the LCD backlight comes on, the screen stays dark with the exception of a row of vertical lines starting about 2" over from the left edge, they appear to be 1 pixel wide and there are enough to make a 2" or so 'stripe' Each line is a different color, and they aren't the same from restart to restart. If the iMac goes to sleep the LCD shuts off and upon waking it shows the lines again, only the LCD will gradually 'bloom' full white (except for the lines) and then gradually recede to a purple, then black again. There does appear to be some damage at the base of the chrome stalk where it goes into the unit, with the seam split open slightly and the metal bent.
Seeing as how it's otherwise fully functional, and the LCD isn't cracked or otherwise 'dead', could it be a bad cable connection? Ideas? Thoughts? resetting PRAM and NVRAM did nothing, but again it works fine with an external hook up.
    Thanks in advance!

  • Pb G4 1.67Ghz running OS 10.4, right side of the screen 2, pixel wide vertical lines, a few days later colors posterized on pics and vid. Vertical lines don't show screen capture, but pics still posterized. Hardware test from disk shows ok.

Right side of screen started showing 2, pixel wide vertical lines. A few day later colors in pics and vid posterized. Vertical lines don't show in screen capture but pics still bad. Ran hardware test from disk, ok, adjusted color in sys prefs, new profiles a bit better but still bad, mpeg worse, jpeg bad. No better in new user account. Now a month later, right side has 8 vert lines and occasionally a slightly darker area in bottom corners for a few seconds. Reset pram, battery plugged into adaptor 99%. I can notice, for a slit second, when the screen saver is on, when I move cursor to get back to desktop, true color of  image can be seen for a flash of a second.

sorry, was in a rush, any suggestions to fix or ideas of what has gone wrong

  • Gray vertical lines on MacBook unibody screen!!!!?

I received my MacBook for Christmas/graduation I have had it less than 3 years. I absolutely loved this computer until now. One day I was surfing the web and all of a sudden my screen went gray with vertical lines and I can no longer use it. I'm very dissapointed considering that I have babied this computer since the day I got it and never dropped it or anything! I went to apple and they said most likely it will be batten $600 and $800 to fix it. I am a college student and I can not afford that. Apple employees have also said they have seen this before and they can't explain to me the problem Nor do they know how to fix it right the first time. I don't know what I should do I am truly upset that there is no reason this should be happening and as much as I love (loved) my Mac I'm probably just going to have to get a cheep computer that will last longer... Unless anyone knows how this can be fixed cheep I will turn my back on Mac

  • Vertical lines of "numbers" and screen distortion upon waking from sleep

    Hi,
I'm posting this for my friend who has a G5 iMac (the first model on the market, about a year and a half old).
Suddenly, he's having a bizarre problem with it. Intermittently, when he wakes the machine from sleep, either immediately, or after several minutes, the screen will go all "double" or fuzzy on him, and then vertical lines of what look like "numbers" (almost like the famous "Matrix" effect) appear on the screen. Only a hard, power button reset will fix it. He called AppleCare, and they had him zap the PRAM, which didn't fix it. Now they say that because the problem is intermittent, there's nothing they can do for now.
    Any ideas???
    Thanks,
    Steve

    Hi all,
Bouj here.. I must say I am amazed at the amount of conversation this post has generated ..
I wanted to put out a few questions for those of us with iMac G5's, really it's a symptom I have noticed with both of the G5's that failed ..
If enabled, does the feature in Power option to dim the screen work reliably ?
I looked back at when the problems with both machines started and it was soon after the dimming feature just stopped working ...even after PRAM, SMU and Open firmware resets didn't do the trick after a fresh install of OS X 10.4.x
Obviously this is a power feature controlled by the logic board and both of my machines had logic board failures ...
If anyone can post their experiences and if they have notices this it may help others or even provide a warning sign for others ...

  • Colored vertical lines on half my screen

I have had my iMac a couple weeks. I bought a refurbished one from the Apple Store. After I turn it off and then back on, I noticed half the screen will have very colorful vertical lines. After several minutes, it will go away, sometimes I can still see them faintly, but then eventually, not at all. Today, after it was 'asleep' and I started it, it did it again.
This is on the 21.5" screen. Has anyone else had this issue. Is there an easy fix, or am I going to have to send it off? I just got it, I really don't want to lose it for weeks.....Thanks.
