Yellowish - Grey display on CQ57

Replaced the screen about a year ago after it was damaged by an over eager flight attendant. About 3 months ago was casually surfing in Chicago Ohare  when I noticed a smell and realized that the bottom bezel was hot.
Later at home found that a small hole had burnt through below the bezel about about half inch to the left of the "C" in the Compaq logo. Poweing up I got a black, grey , yellow dislay. So I went out and got myself a MAC.
I came back to the problem and used an external monitor to acces my much needed files . This worked great  then I notices  that with the laptop running as  in now  ( I  am wrking from it) I have display I could potentially ignore the secondary monitor and type from the laptop screen , my display is about 80 % there but is  off color on what i will call the header and footer of the screen.
My desktop screen ibackground s an oil rig and that is not clear but I can see all of my icons for my files and or programs.
So what is the issue is this a loose connection , why did it over heat and burn a hole through the plastic , is this something I can fix?
Thanks

Hello clemkonan53,
I see that you had an issue with the notebook heating up that, this has something to do with the screen being replaced. That at one point you had to use an external monitor to even use the notebook. I will try to answer your questions on the issue and assist with it.
There is a possibility that when the screen was originally replaced, something wasn't connected correctly, or set correctly causing it to overheat. The overheating causing the burning of the plastic. This is just speculation, but a possible source to the cause.
Did you notice the heat at all prior to the smell 3 months ago (the heat issue should have been apparent earlier based on the fact it started to burn through the plastic)?
As for fixing it, this could be possible. You would have to take apart the display portion of the notebook, then identify the part that was overheating to see if that can be replaced. Then replacing that part, and assessing the rest for damages. It burnt through the bezel, there may also be other internal damage you cannot see. This would then involve replacing any other parts/components that were damaged.
You could also try contacting support, to see what other repair/replacement options are available to you.

  • TS1367 My macbook pro when starting, keeps thinking in a grey display with the apple in the center. What can I do?

Guys, I have a MacBook Pro and a MacBook Air. Lately, when I try to start any of them, a grey display appears with the apple logo in the center and a little round circle that indicates that it´s thinking. It takes forever and I don´t know why this is happening and how to resolve the issue.
    Can you please help me?

The article OGELTHORPE linked to has information that can resolve the issue.
Restart the computer by pressing the power button.
Hold the "command" and "R" keys long enough to get the computer startup from "Recovery HD".
    Repair Disk. 10.7/10.8.

If this does not help, you may have to renstall OS X.

  • A long death and now grey display

    Hi all,
I have an imac DV 400 and and some trouble. Before the final crash the imac boot and only show a small folder with ?. 2 days after no boot at all. I try this i open look at disk and optique storage. first i remove a cd in the dvd (thx child). reset the cuda.
Now i boot but i have only a gray display?
I try a cd mac os9 or hardware cd and boot with c no effect
the sound seems good bing and i hear the disk or optical
So what? Maybe the battery where can i buy a new battery in europe?
    Others ideas welcom!
    Thanks
    Fred from Paris

Frederic, ... It might be money better spent to simply put a new drive in your iMac. It sounds like the present one has died. HD repair software will cost as much as a new drive, and it won't do a thing for a dead drive due to hardware failure.
If there is information on your old drive that is valuable, software repair is worth a try, but you can always put the old drive in a Firewire or USB enclosure and try to resurect it from there. If that works, you end up with a convenient spare drive.

  • Stuck with grey display and strange pattern!

My iMac froze a few days ago, so I used the power button to turn it off. Then I restarted  the computer but I had a greyish monitor with the apple logo, and they were filled with little suigly lines. (see photos)
Then the screen gets a strange pattern on the left side
and after a while I get the text box telling me to restart.
But each time I retart I get the same thing, so impossible to open the computer
to get access to Terminal or Activity Monitor to try and change things.
    Any suggestions?

  • Grey information displayed when a new song starts

i was using Itunes (7.0.1 i think it was) and i accidentally pressed some keys on the keyboard and since this at the start of every song a grey display of the songs artwork, name, artist, duration and rating comes up at the bottom of the screen in front of whatever i am doing. Can someone please tell me how to get rid of this. So far i have tried preplacing itunes with different and older versions (not relizing it was a preference), looked through all the shortcut to try and find out what i pressed, search through many of the support articles and gone through every menu option. Due to it disrupting my work (by distracking me and blocking my reading even just momentarily) i am close to throwing out all my itunes preferences and starting from scratch. Does anyone know what i can do to stop it.

If it doesn't relate to Growl then it is definitely Remote Buddy. I just fixed the same issue. In the preferences for RM, go to the behavior for iTunes. There should be an Options tab next to Button Mapping. Uncheck the box that says "Display information on currently playing songs." That should do it!

  • Macbook crashes with external displays, Macbook crashes with external displays

    Dear Community,
I have a problem with my new (Dec. 2013) Macbook Pro. Everything worked fine until two weeks ago. Then, I connected my Macbook via VGA-adapter (original) with an LCD Monitor at home (I had done this before without any problems). My Mac froze and nothing happened, so I had to reboot it manually (press the on/off button 5 seconds). The Macbook would show a grey display und would not reboot, no matter what I tried. The secure boot program did not work, either. I could start it with disk utility and load my last time machine backup.
After I did this, everything worked fine again. Last week I tried to connect my Mac with another LCD display at work (which had also worked fine before). Same error! Mac froze and nothing worked and I had to load a backup again.
I brought my Mac to the next Apple store, where a hardware check revealed no defects.
Nonetheless, they exchanged the logic board and told me everything was fine, again.
Today, I have worked the whole day using my external display at work. Everything was ok, but I could only use the external display and not the Notebook display. When I tried to sync the two monitors to work with the Mac and the external display together – same error!
I have called the Apple store, but they had no idea and just told me that the Apple warranty does not cover third-party displays. The Apple hotline suggested looking for a driver for the external displays, but there are none. And again: Until two weeks ago, everything worked without problems.
Has anybody an idea what to do with this?
    Julia

I was searching and found that the Matrox DualHead2Go maybe work. Any idea?
    Thanks

  • N9 - Black spots on display

    Hi,
Just bough myself N9 and i just love it. One thing i noticed thouhg, that bothers me a bit, are the black areas or spots visible on dark grey backgrounds. If you start the camera on a dark room, you will notice the black spots. Is this a common issue on N9? Should i ask for a replacemet device?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Experiencing with the same issue. I have black lines on the dark grey display when phone is switching on, camera on, multitasking view (no or one/two applications on), dashboard view when empty.
I have contacted Nokia Hungary to figure the issue out. It seems to be unbelievable why such a small display like 3.9 cannot be homogeneous!
Image just found on internet but the problem fairly similar (hard to be taken by camera).
    Keep you posted

  • My mac is slow, crashes if iPhoto is opened, doesn't boot sometimes

    Hello.
In the last time, my MacBook Pro is very slow and crashes sometimes if I open iPhoto or some other programs.
Sometimes, there comes a black display with some thin white lines and then I have to restart the computer.
Also, sometimes the mac doesn't boot right (you see only a grey display after the apple symbole).
I already repaired the system with Disk Utility and erased it to install a backup of my system.
    Thank you for your help!
    Best regards....

Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service provider. You may have to leave the machine there for several days.
Back up all data on the internal drive(s) before you hand over your computer to anyone. There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional—ask if you need guidance.
If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros* (do this only if you have at least two complete, independent backups, and you know how to restore to an empty drive from any of them.) Don’t erase the recovery partition, if present.

Apple also recommends that you deauthorize a device in the iTunes Store before having it serviced.

If your container has a width in %,  add one of these rules to your CSS code.
/**This re-scales images to any size browser width**/
    img {width:100%}
/**this re-scales images  up to the native file size only**/
    img {max-width:100%}
Also remove height and width attributes from your <img> HTML code.  Otherwise this won't work.

Have anyone a suggestion or a hint for help ???????
    Thanks
    Armin

the reset you did is intended for powerpc minis only not inteli suggest you try the smc reset insted
From the Apple menu, choose Shut Down (or if the computer is not responding, hold the power button until it turns off).
Unplug all cables from the computer, including the power cord and any display cables.
    Wait at least 15 seconds.
Plug the power cord back in, making sure the power button is not being pressed at the time. Then reconnect your keyboard and mouse to the computer.
Press the power button on the back to start up your computer.

  • Connecting a Satellite Pro A100 to a TV?

    HI there.
I've got a Satellite Pro A100-PSAA3E and I'm trying to connect it so that it displays on my tv.
Ive tried connecting it through the S-Video out port on my laptop to the TV via a S-Video to SCART cable and neither the laptop or the tv are picking anything up.
I've tried every input on my TV, even rebooted the laptop with the TV already on and set to every input.
I have also tried using a VGA-video cable and have gotten no further, even after trying everyhint i can think of.
As far as I am aware I have the latest drivers and have tried everything I can think of.
When ever i go into Display-Settings-Advanced-Displays, the box for the TV is completely greyed out and unclickable.
    Can anyone help?

    Hi
From my own personal experience some s-video-to-scart cables supports the wrong pin assignment.
I have connected my notebook to the TV but I got either only a white/grey display or nothing. I have changed the cable and bought only an s-video cable.
This helped to solve the issue.
One tip; on some TVs you need to enable the s-video option. Furthermore you have to use the FN+F5 key combination to switch the display on the TV

  • IPod continuously restores and updates to no effect

    I have my girlfriend's grey-display 4GB iPod mini.
Here's the problem. When starting up the iPod goes to the exclamation folder icon (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61003). It then shuts off. Following the instructions I plug it in and make sure it's charged. Windows recognizes a USB device just as iTunes recognizes the iPod. Per instruction I restore it using the latest iTunes (7.0.2.16). It gives me the instruction to not touch the iPod while it restarts. I don't. upon rebooting, windows once again recognizes a USB device, and iTunes informs me (once again) that the iPod is in recovery mode and must be restored. I repeat the process once more. Same results. Then, I begin following the steps concurrently with the Restore option; reinstalling iTunes, changing the iPod's letter/path (from G: to Q:), resetting the iPod with the Hold button and putting it in disk mode. I've followed the five R's in exhaustive measure, every concurrent link from their onward has garnered nothing. I've dug thru these forums 12 pages back to no avail; picking and screening possible headers for a problem similar to my own.
I only require two things from you fine people now. First, I'd like a suggestion for my next possible step I could try that is uncatalogued by the Support pages here at apple.com
Secondly, barring this next step, is there any way I could get an estimate on repair or replacement if I were to send it back to apple?
PS: Windows has recently been opening the iPod like a storage device.
    Thanks for all the support.
    dell 8600 Windows XP SP2
    dell 8600   Windows XP   SP2

I do not suggest that you send your iPod to apple for service, as the repairing cost is very high e.g. 60-70% cost of a new iPod Nano with same capacity
Bear in mind the battery of your iPod may also reach the time for replacement
    I suggest 2 things:-
First find another PC (even better a Mac with firewire), do a Restore for your iPod there
If does not works then to find a second repairing company, you can try iPodResQ at your own risk
