Yellowy hue

I got a replacement screen for my rMBP yesterday (it had a mura) and the new one has a yellowy hue - but only half of the screen. Some people I have asked can't see it and I don't know if I'd be able to get a replacement because I know it probably isn't that obvious. Although to be honest, I'd rather have the mura as this yellow tint just looks ugly (also I got another Samsung screen and don't want to take the risk to end up with an LG with image retention).
I know changing the colour profile can help if your whole screen has a weird hue - but how about if it's just part of the screen? And if I wanted to do it anyway to see if it would be less obvious, how would I go about it? I tried playing around with it before but I didn't really understand it.

Not even a colorimeter calibration is going to get rid of a yellow tint. I don't have a Retina machine, but I've been watching the forums closely and the consensus seems to be that Samsung screens are more prone to lackluster colors and tints while LG screens are brighter, whiter yet suffer more from IR.
I don't know what I would do if I were you - I'm waiting out the first round of Retinas until they get the screen 'right'. If you do any sort of color managed work, you obviously can't put up with the tint and you don't want the IR.
Maybe it's time to return it for a non-Retina?

  • Incorrect Color Profile

I've calibrated my monitor so that it's 2.2 Television Gamma but the setting doesn't seem to stay in place for very long on my Apple Display.
I have set up both the Macbook Pro and the Apple Display to the same calibration and given it the name "Gamma 2.2" but if I disconnect the Display for a while and then reconnect the colour on the Display has a yellowy hue to it.
This is sometimes the case on the MacBook as well but instead there is a Bluey hue.
I then have to go back into the Color Settings and create a new profile - very annoying after a while.
    Any ideas?

I'm having exactly the same problem as well. Sometimes, after sleep, it has the correct Gamma 2.2. profile and sometimes it doesn't. As soon as I click on Displays, in the System Prefs, it changes back to what it should be namely Gamma 2.2.
    Very frustrating.
I also have an external Apple Display connected and it also happens with this on random occasions!

  • In Photoshop CC (2014), Hue/Saturation adjustment layer properties disappear

I am running Photoshop CC (2014) under Windows 7 Professional.  The program is up to date.
Today, while editing an 8-bit image, I added a Hue/Saturation adjustment layer.  Then, in the properties panel for this layer, with the on-image adjustment tool selected, I clicked a color in the image to get a range of colors whose saturation I wanted to adjust.  Next, using the saturation slider in the properties panel, I increased the saturation of this range of colors. Finally, I closed the properties panel by clicking on the double arrow in the upper right corner.
Later, I wanted to modify this adjustment layer.  I double-clicked on the layer thumbnail to reopen the properties panel, and found that, although the previous increase in saturation was still operating, the saturation slider was back at its default position, and the range of colors that I had previously established was gone.  Thus, I could not make further adjustments to this range of colors.
I then did some further experimentation:  I deleted the first Hue/Saturation adjustment layer, and created a new Hue/Saturation adjustment layer. I then again established a range of colors as above, again increased the saturation of these colors, and then again closed the properties panel by clicking on the double arrow in the upper right corner.  This time, however, when I wanted to try to modify this adjustment layer, instead of double-clicking on the layer thumbnail to reopen the properties panel, I right-clicked on the layer and then clicked on "Edit adjustment..."  This opened the properties panel, which, this time, correctly showed my original adjustments -- the saturation slider showed the positive adjustment that I had previously made, and the range of colors established earlier was still shown. But then, on a hunch, I added a Curves adjustment layer above the Hue/Saturation adjustment layer.  Now, when I again opened the properties panel of the Hue/Saturation adjustment layer (by right-clicking on the layer and then clicking on "Edit adjustment..."), my previous settings were gone -- the saturation slider was at its default position and the range of colors was gone!  (But the increase in saturation was still operating.)
Thus, it appears that there is a bug in the functioning of the properties panel of the Hue/Saturation layer: In short, once you have added a further adjustment layer, you can't then go back and make changes to the properties of the Hue/Saturation layer.  I would be interested to hear if others have noticed this.  Also, is Adobe planning to address this?

OK, I am not entirely sure I have understood your post completely, but when you edit a colour range with a Hue/Sat layer, and click off and back on again, it will default to showing the RGB values, which you may not have made any adjustment to.  If you pick the previous colour from the image, or a similar colour, it _will_ show you the adjustments.  So long as your picked colour is contained within the range of the previous adjustment.
Ypu could also use the RGB drop down (actually they call it Master nowadays), and chose the colour that is closest to your previously picked colour.  I expect you are away that you can edit the colour range being operated on by dragging the four sliders on the two colour bars at the bottom of the Properties panel.
Does that make sense, or am I going in the wrong direction?

  • I've just hooked my 20" iMac up to my Toshiba 37" HDTV using a mini dvi-HDMI adapter, and works well, EXCEPT for the green tinge (or hue) that is showing up on my TV. Any suggestions or ideas?

I've just hooked my 20" iMac display up to my Toshiba 37" HDTV using a mini dvi-HDMI adapter, and everything works well, EXCEPT for the green tinge (or hue) that is showing up. Everything else looks pretty good though..... The color that is on my iMac is still good, Its just green on the TV.
    Anyone have suggestions or ideas?

Try opening the Display System Preferences, then click on the Color options in the Display preferences window that appeared on the Toshiba display. Click on the Calibrate button and follow the instructions for creating a custom ColorSync profile that will hopefully solve the green tinge issue. The Apple Display Calibrator Assistant software that launches when you click on the calibrate button will walk you through the process.Assuming that the green tinge is minor and that you don't have a more serious cable or hardware issue, I am hopeful the results will be worth it.

  • Intel Mac Mini Pink hue display problem

Originally purchase a refurbed Mac Mini 1.66 Intel Core Duo, and over the years I've upgraded the RAM (w/ 2 Gigs) replace wifi "G" card with "N" card. Unfortunately, my mac mini died. Went to the Apple store in Tampa, and the genius said the logic board was toast.
I replaced the logic board with 1.83GHz Intel Core Duo board, and everything is working fine except for the display.
When it starts up, the standard grey screen now has a pink hue. After booting is finished the screen still has the pink hue. However, after a bit, the screen turns to normal, but there is some flicker. My mini is connected to a Samsung LCD 17" display that is working fine. There are no cable issues, I connected the display to my iBook, and it works fine.
Has anyone come across this before? Do I need to reseat the RAM sticks? Is there a software setting that I need to change since I upgraded from a 1.66 logic board to a 1.83?
The logic board is under warranty, but I was hoping to get some answers that can be easily fixed instead of sending it back.

I took the mac mini to work, and hooked it up to my monitor. It still displayed the pink hue at start up. I'm leaning toward this being a bad logic board.
One thing that is curious is that the screen will loose most of the pink hue as the Mac Mini warms up. It's almost back to normal, but the colors still have a little too much pink even after adjusting the monitor. Also, you can see flicker as it warms up as well.
I'm sending back the logic board for replacement.

  • Need to create and adjustment layer to compensate for undesirable hue caused by lens

I’m looking for some help to set up an adjustment layer to compensate for a specific lens colouration issue. Basically I’m using a GoPro (on a drone) but I have fitted an aftermarket flat lens. Sharpness is good, but the lens has a well known issue – it results in pink hue around the edges/corners. Most of the time it is barely noticeable, other times it jumps out. It also depends on the monitor I am using eg. my TV seems to bring it out a lot more than my laptop.
Here is an example - look around 0:35 to 0:40 http://vimeo.com/117790732
And to try get an idea of where the issue is on the frame, I picked an example image of frost covered grass, very early in the morning. I then cranked up the saturation to 100% and this is what it looks like:
I would like to be able to compensate for this. Presumably this should done with an adjustment layer made in Photoshop which I can then import into Premier Pro. Can anyone advise as to how I do that?
    Any help will be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Jacques

    Hi Trevor
Thanks for your reply. I did what you suggested and created 2 masked adjustment layers which are basically concentric rings with differing levels of magenta reduction and I then feathered the edges. I have attached 2 images below to show the before and after effect. I’m working on getting this more accurate and I’m also going to look into the technique posted by Normfb. Big thanks to you Trevor for suggesting this – this is all quite new to me and it was very useful to play around with these adjustments layers, masks etc.

  • How can I get hue, saturation & luminance visible in the Loupe?

For the life of me I can't figure how to get visible in the Loupe - Hue, Saturation, Luminance as I move the Loupe around a photo.
I can get R,G,B,L. Is there a secret to get the Hue in it? I checked preferences and even searched in Aperture Help. NO luck.
    I'm in Aperture 3.0.3
    Thanks

    It is a tad secret.
Make sure colour value is set in the Loupe menu then:
In the Adjustments inspector choose a color value option from the Adjustment Action pop-up menu (with a gear icon). HSB i smiling at you in that list
Then it'll appear as a colour value in the loupe.
BTW You'll find all this in the Displaying a Pixel Grid and Color Values section of Aperture help.

  • How do I apply a hue to only the visible layers?

basically what It says on the tin.

Use an Adjustment Layer, for example a Hue/Saturation Layer with Colorite checked or a Gradient Map Layer (with a gradient from one color to the same color) set to blend Mode Hue …
Could you please post a screenshot with the Layers Panel visible?

  • PSE 7 - pinkish hue in images

    Hi all,
I have a strange situation--when I have PSE 7 open, it displays images with a slight pinkish hue; for instance, pure white appears as pink in an image displayed using PSE7, yet appears as pure white when seen with the thumbnail preview feature of Windows Explorer or in my scanner software.
How can I correct this, as it doesn't seem to be a monitor issue. . .I'd like to see my photos as is, without the pink

You probably have a bad color profile associated with your display:

  • Photoshop Elements 6: Hue/Saturation as a basic layer?

When creating a hue/saturation layer in Photoshop Elements 6, is it possible to have it act as a basic layer, adding and removing from the selection, rather than a mask layer?

The simple method is to place your selection on a separate layer and clip the hue/saturation mask to it.
In this example I selected the sky and pushed up the saturation to really exaggerate the blue color.
    1. Make your selection
    2. Press Ctrl+J to place it on its own layer
    3. Add new adjustment layer (hue/saturation) and click OK to close the dialog
    4. Hover your mouse over the dividing line between the adjustment layer and selection layer whilst holding down the alt key. Click when you see two small connecting circle appear. A downward pointing arrow will appear to show the adjustment layer is clipped to the selection layer.
    5. Double click the thumbnail icon on the adjustment layer (not the white mask thumbnail) and that will bring back the dialog box.
    6. Now use the sliders to make your selective adjustments.

  • Image Processor gives a slightly reddish hue to jpgs

For some reason, my Photoshop's (CS4) Image  Processor gives jpgs a slightly reddish hue when compared to the hue in  for example Microsoft RAW Image Viewer (or the LCD display of the  camera). How come is this possible? Shouldn't the Image Processor be neutral in terms of colours?

This is the page with info about your program:

    I noticed this line:
Superior color fidelity. Windows Image Color Management (ICM) is used to render images in the correct color space as determined by the photographer when the image was captured.
    and these:
Often likened to a ‘digital negative,’ a RAW image is the native image format for a growing number of quality digital cameras. RAW images typically contain the original camera sensor data recorded at the time of capture along with camera settings and other information. Using special PC software, photographers can “process” RAW images to vary the exposure, white balance, and other settings long after the image was captured. This creative flexibility and extra level of protection against mistakes are key reasons photographers choose to shoot RAW.

  • Car color PYG ... what is that?  Hue of that?

    Hi,
I'm creating a commercial wrap for my 2005 Dodge mini-van which has a painted color #PYG (according to the vehicle specs).
I have a picture background in which I've applied a Hue/Saturation adjustment layer.  I want to match the Hue settings with the vehicle paint.  How do I figure out what PYG stands for?
    Thanks!
    -Ronald  (PS CC)

I am no expert on verhicle paint, but 'clear coat' sounds like something that would go on top of a base colour, but cealr coats would very likely come with metalic specks to add that extra touch of class to the paint job.
OK, how to use it.  I looked at your first post again, and I am not sure what you mean by 'commercial wrap', or what your 'picture bacground' looks like, and it is difficult to tell you how to go from here without more info, or way better still, seeing a screen grab of the image.
To set the colour, click on the forground colour, and enter the values in post #4.  i.e.
    R 201
    G 193
    B 176
From there you could simply fill a layer, or fill a new layer and set the blend mode to Color.  I don't think that Hue/saturation is the right tool to use, but we really need to see your image to know what you are trying to do.

  • Hue Blend Mode Confusion

    Hello,
In reading about the Hue blend mode, I have come to understand (perhaps erroneously) that given two layers (T)op and (B)ottom, that if the Blend Mode of T is set to Hue, then the hue information in T will be blended with the saturation and luminosity in B, which essentially means that the hue information in B is replaced by the hue information in T. However, in running some experiments, I've noticed that when dealing with a very simple document comprised of two layers only, that setting the Blend Mode to Hue also changes the saturation and brightness.
Here are the steps to duplicate the observed phenomena using two regular layers:
    Create a new blank document.
Fill with the color that corresponds to the HSB values (0, 70, 50).
Add a new layer above the existing layer (blend mode Normal).
Fill the topmost layer with the color that corresponds to the HSB values (230, 70, 50).
Using the Info panel, the HSB values for the document should read as (230, 70, 50).
Change the Blend Mode of the topmost layer to Hue.
Using the Info panel, the HSB values for the document should read as (230, 70, 50), but instead read as (230, 66, 53).
And here are the steps to duplicate the observed phenomena using a regular layer and an adjustment layer:
    Create a new blank document.
Fill with the color that corresponds to the HSB values (0, 70, 50).
Add a Hue/Saturation adjustment layer (blend mode Normal).
Adjust the Hue value in the Properties panel for the Hue/Saturation adjustment layer to be -130.
Using the Info panel, the HSB values for the document should read as (230, 70, 50).
Change the Blend Mode for the Hue/Saturation layer to be Hue.
Using the Info panel, the HSB values for the document should read as (230, 70, 50), but instead read as (230, 66, 53).
The results in both (for me) are identical. Am I misunderstanding the Hue blend mode?
    Thanks,
    Matt

    Hi Chris,
Thanks very much for your straightforward and helpful answer. So, it would appear that my simplistic understanding of the Hue blend mode as 'replacing' the hue of the underlying layer(s) is incorrect. Would a fair rendering of what the Hue blend mode actually does be as follows?
"The Hue blend mode will perform a direct replacement of the hue in the underlying layer(s). The brightness and saturation of the underlying layer(s) will not be affected *unless* the resultant hue, saturation, and brightness 3-tuple would result in an illegal HSL combination, in which case the saturation and brightness of the resultant pixels will be altered to bring the HSL values into compliance."
Also, is there a way for the Info panel to display HSL values?
    Thanks again,
    Matt

  • What video effect for color desaturation? (e.g. Hue/Saturation in Photoshop)

    Hi all,
What is the Premiere equivalent of the HUE/SATURATION adjustment layer found i Photoshop ? I am trying to slightly desaturate (about -53%) my movie to give it a more gritty look. I could easily get the look I wanted in Photoshpo by going to NEW ADJUSTMENT LAYER-->HUE/SATURATION.
Is there a similar approach for Premiere? In the Video effects folder somewhere? Thanks!

Use the "Fast Color Corrector and "Saturation".
