Yep, another Comcast question with an Express (N) and a Motorola SB5100

I'm in Fresno at a friends house, he has Comcast cable wired to his desktop computer. I don't know if something weird is happening with Comcast in this market.
I bought an Airport Extreme and a wireless G adapter for his PC.
I've had a **** of a time setting these up. I've gone to the XP box and found all the "properties" for the TCP/IP connection such as DHCP, IP, DNS... it doesn't appear to be PPPoE, at least, I really don't think so but I do not know how to check on XP (and I don't know if this is used on Comcast). Other than PPPoE, I have tried nearly every setting on the Airport Express such as DHCP, Manual, DHCP with Manual Address, NAT... Nothing. I saw the other thread about Comcast and I have Googled for a while to figure out why this Comcast Motorola SB5100 will not talk to my Airport Express. I am puzzled. Everything was on Automatic on the PC itself, I found the modem's IP address but I don't think it's a router so I couldn't get at the settings by typing it's address in a web browser.
I figured the main things to do on the Express were to use Automatic DHCP, NAT, and to Share A Single Public IP. Still not working.
Does anyone have any insight? I can't switch modems because, it's not mine, and I don't really have any experience with Cable, I have only played around with DSL at my home in Tucson.

I have not yet tried that. I will certainly give it a shot when I get back tonight. What exactly does that do, all I can think of is that would renew an IP address (maybe) and reset the router.
One question though, since I am unfamiliar with the nature of Cable and this router, will it reset any login or subscription settings? (i.e. on DSL, I believe the DSL Modem uses PPPoE which of course has a username and password). I would like to make sure that I do not leave my friend having to make a 30 minute call to Comcast to get his internet back. Or is DSL just based on where you plug the modem in and whether or not you pay the bill? Because I could not find any settings for that modem anywhere.

  • Where to locate HTTP Server for use with Oracle Express 10g and Apex?

    Hello,
Im a newbie and I downloaded oracle express 10g and Apex 3.2.1. The Apex install is referencing "choosing a HTTP Server" specifically "Oracle HTTP Server and mod_plsql and the embedded PL/SQL Gateway". My question is do the HTTP server or PL SQL embedded Gateway come with the 10g install or do I need to download them seperately? If so where can I locate them?
    Thank you!

    user12027813 wrote:
If using Oracle XE, then which APEX install scenario would I used if I downloaded both the XE and apex from the OTN?Oracle XE includes APEX 2.1 and uses the PL/SQL Gateway for HTTP service work. No separate HTTP Server is required.
If, after you install XE, you want to upgrade to APEX 3.x, you would select the PL/SQL Gateway for the upgrade.
If the PL/SQL Gateway (EPG) does not provide the full set of services you need, you could put a regular Apache in front and redirect to APEX for those specific issues.
If that is to complicated, then you could license Oracle Application Server Standard Edition 1 (for a fee) to get an Oracle HTTP Server and it's mod_plsql to replace the internal EPG.

  • PC based iTunes And multi play with Airport Express device and a Marantz CR-603

I have iTunes on my PC and use the iPad as my 'remote' as I want to be able to have two different systems playing. I have a Cyrus Hi Fi in the lounge with  Airport Express added which works fine, and a Marantz CR 603 system in the kitchen which also works fine, when either is sourced from the iPad. When I switch to remote for multi-play using the PC I can't get the PC to identify the Marantz AND the Airport Express together. The PC just can't pick up the Marantz, even though it works fine from the iPad. The PC can see the Airport Express and, of course, itself. The system uses a hard wired Ethernet from the hub to the Marantz. Everything else is operating via wireless. Help!?

    I found a solution!
Quit iTunes, restart the "Bonjour Service", start iTunes, done! :-)
    best regards,

  • Please help with Logic Express 7 and using DFH plugin!

Hey guys, I'm really in a tight spot here as I have no idea how to get my setup working properly. I recently bought an entirely new Imac, Logic Express 7, and a drum plugin called Drumkit From **** Superior (VSTi I believe is the type of plugin they call it). It is supposed to be compatable but I see no way to get it to show up as a plugin. I tried some other programs and it shows up as a plugin and I'm able to get into the interface, but I can't in LE7.
It is supposed to be compatable as a "rewire" plugin or something like that, but I'm not too sure how to approach that differently, both manuals are very vague.
    Basically, I'm wondering:
    1. How would I go about getting Drumkit From **** Superior to show up as a "plugin" (and what it would be under) if I have to use it a "rewire"?
    2. If I could get it running as a plugin, how would I go about programming a drum part using that "drumkit" in Logic Express?
Thanks, any help is greatly appreciated.
    -Daniel

It's a tough one man, I'm actually wanting to go for EZdrummer which I think comes under the same umbrealla as DFH, the patch will come to let you upgrade to intel hopefully by September so hold onto that plug in as I think it'll be worth it in the long run. In the mean time do you have any other options to make beats?
I use Reason 3.0, I sequence my beats using Reason Drum Kits 2.0 and export them as WAV or AIFF files into Logic, do you have anything similar that you can do? write you beats else where and import into Logic?

  • How to work with Logic Express 8 and Garageband 11 v.6.0.4?

I just installed Logic Express 8 and I don't know what it's done to my existing Garageband files - they seem to have been overwritten into Logic folders. I don't seem to be able to open them in either program. I'm sure there are answers buried in the files here, but I'd appreciate a quick How To, please! Can't work.

You need more to be sure the Digidesign core audio drivers are installed for your MBox, which are separate from the firmware upgrade.
A standalone installer for the OS X (10.4) drivers can be found at:

While I'm glad to hear you're using Logic, your iMac should have no problem running ProTools LE. The current version, 7.3, has universal binary support for the new intel Macs .... dependign on the version you have, though, you may need to pay a small amount to upgrade to 7.3 The updaters for 7.3 also include the core audio driver package I mentioned above, and the ProTools LE 7.3 updaters can be found at:

  • Another Comcast Customer with Another Fiasco

Like a previous poster, we too have been having a fiasco! We moved and I contacted Comcast and spoke to a very nice rep and told her we were moving and needed all of our services TRANSFERRED to our new address.  Nothing was changing except the address, and obviously our location.  Here is the issue... 1. Sunday, May 31, spoke to the rep stating we were moving June 1 and we needed to transfer our services to our new house.  At the end of the call I was told all services were transferred and the tech would arrive Saturday, June 6 since that was the only open time slot.  That was fine, so we scheduled that day. 2. Saturday, June 6, the tech arrived on time and we had no issues.  He hooked up all of our new, upgraded, boxes; added a new outlet; and hooked up the new, upgraded modem.  Cable was up and ready that afternoon.  No problems. 3. Friday, June 19, paid the bill and the payment cleared the bank on Monday, June 22. 4.  Here is where the problems begin...the following week we received a bill stating that we had not paid our bill and we owed over $700...WHAT?!?!?!  We contacted Comcast immediately.  After two hours on the phone and being passed to FIVE different people (because no one had any idea what was going on...sounds like the other poster's issue) we THOUGHT the issue had been cleared.  But, no...the issue was NOT cleared.  The services were not transferred like we had thought and the payment of June 19 went to the old address, not the new address.  After being loyal Comcast customers for over 10 years, we were posted as a new customer and our previous account at our old residence had not been shut off and just transferred.  So, we had TWO accounts!!!!  The two hour phone conversation with the five reps obviously did not resolve the issue.  I went to pay my bill and our previous account is STILL NOT SHUT OFF and still says we owe over $700. How do I pay the current bill?  At this point, the old residence's services should have been cut off and we should have a bill at our NEW residence of $397.70 (this includes the new residence services of switching on the cable and adding the new outlet).  Why do I not see the new residence and why is the old one still on this account AND NOT SHUT OFF?  The account number is the same. We have never had a problem with transferring services from one residence to another.  Why is there such an issue now?  We have had the same email and account number, and the only thing that needed to be done is transferring services, shutting off the old address and switching on the new one, as well as adding the new outlet.  Why has this not been resolved when two hours were spent on the phone?  This is unacceptable customer service.  Comcast has always had good service, until now.  And, enough with the outsourcing.  Can we deal with someone in the good. ol' USA who can understand us...please???  WHO DO WE NEED TO TALK TO IN ORDER TO GET THIS RESOLVED IMMEDIATELY????  PLEASE HELP!!! I know it says not to do this, but if a Comcast rep is reading this, we need someone to contact us ASAP to finally resolve this matter.  Email is this username at comcast dot net. Thank you.

Hi welcome to the forums, your links dont work for me.
The forums are customer to customer in the first instance, Only the mods (BT) will ask for personal information through a email link. Would you mind posting your Hub stats & BT speed test results this will help all with diagnosis-
To post the full stats from your router
    for home hub - 192.168.1.254
Navigate to ADSL Settings or use the A-Z at the top right
Click on More Details and then post the results.
Run BT speed tester and post the results from http://speedtester.bt.com/
If possible it would be best to connect to the BT master socket remove the front plate if possisble and connect to socket this will rule out any telephone/broadband extension wiring also consider the housing of the hub/router as anything electrical can cause problems as these are your responsibility, if these are found to be the case Openreach (engineer) will charge BT Broadband, which will be passed onto you, around £130.00.
Noisy line! When making telephone calls, if so this is not good for your broadband, you can check-
Quite line test dial 17070 option 2 and listen - should hear nothing best done with old type analogue phone digital (dect) will do but may have slight hiss If you hear noise- crackling pops etc, report it as a noisy line on your phone, don’t mention broadband, Bt Faults on 151.

  • Networking Question with Extreme & Express

If I am standing within 1 to 40 feet of  A  my phone connects to the network through A with a strong signal.
If I am standing within 1 to 20 feet of  B  my phone connects to the network through B with a strong signal.
If I am standing within 1 foot of  C  my phone connects to the network through B with a very weak signal and will not connect through C.
B and C are set up to extend the network at A.
Obviously C is not extending the network, (and is set up to accept wireless clients like B).  Is it possible to select the point at which to connect?

  • Question about airport express/extreme and printing

Hopefully this question will make sense... I currently have my computer hooked up to Airport Extreme wirelessly. That is the network in my house. I want to buy a large format Epson printer and it needs to be somewhere else in the house and cannot be plugged in to the Extreme.
If I purchase the printer and plug it into an Airport Express that is plugged into an outlet can I switch back and forth between wi-fi connections to print wirelessly?
    Thanks for any help.
    Stephanie

If you receive a signal strong enough to use your computer wirelessly upstairs, you won't have any problem (I don't think) with your printer. I just got a Wi-Fi printer and it just seamlessly becomes part of your network same as adding any Wi Fi enabled device (I have 2 roku's for streaming Netflix etc and it all works great). BTW, my printer is a Canon MP 495 and so far I really like it. And, for a very inexpensive photo printer, (+AIO- copier, scanner, which I like, I paid around $45 on Amazon when it was on sale). The set-up instructions for Mac were not very coherent, but if you know what you are doing when it comes to adding hardware and working with your network, you can do it without the poorly written instructions. Also, the web site is not that great for help forums or shopping for ink, etc. Amazon is one of the best overall resources with lots of customer reviews, etc. Good luck!

  • Two questions concerning Airport Express (speed and disconnecting)

    Hello, thanks for any reply.
    1) I currently have an Airport Express hooked up to a modem. My experience with it is somewhat lackluster however. The speed can fluctuate sometimes, going from decently fast (although I don't think very fast at all) to qute slow. Also, I more often than not have to reboot the Airport Express (by unplugging and replugging in).
What happens is the green light is on, but my wireless signal (top right of MacBook Pro screen) is empty. I click on it and try to find my signal, which is listed. I then click on that, but nothing happens, and it tells me I cannot connect to it. I then have to unplug and then plug in the Airport Express and wait for it to reboot, which solves the problems but is rather annoying. Any help on how to stop this would be great.
    2) I am caught inbetween whether I need to upgrade the Airport Express anyway, into a router with a wired ethernet port. I am utilizing the USB printer and obviously the only port to connect to the modem, but the only way I can hook into my system that does not have wireless capabilities (Xbox 360), I need to unplug the wire from my Airport Express, plug it into my console, and then restart the router, and then do the same thing except with the Airport Express to obtain connection (both are unfortunately mutually exclusive).
The reason I mention that is because I am considering different speed options too. I apologize for my lack of savvy on the subject, but quite simply: Does the Airport Express create the fastest wireless connection out there? Does the Airport Extreme (with wired ports) create a faster connection? When it comes to the Airport Extreme, does that card (I see it in the store section, but I still don't understand it) make the connection much better? Does that card help for an Airport Express?
Thank you so much for answering my questions, I really appreciate it.

Can you further explain the notion of interference, does that mean other wireless signals? I have many that my computer detects, so would this slow down my connection?
Yes any wireless signals at 2.4 GHz will cause interference for the AX. This can be from wireless networks or other devices.
Also, in terms of the 802.11n clients, I know that my computer supports it (From Utilities > Network Utility), but does that mean that the Airport Extreme card is not a factor?
That means that your Mac can connect to 802.11n networks.
Can you please detail what that card functions as.
?? Don't know what you mean by that.
...do you think that the Airport Extreme is then totally worth it, just to clarify.
If you have 802.11n devices and do large transfers between them, then the 802.11b/g/n AEBS could be useful.
If you want to use the AEBS as a file server, then the 802.11b/g/n AEBS would be worth it.

  • Trusted.certs question with regards to Installation and Upgrading Java

    Greetings,
Thank you to all who take the time to read this especially those who can provide some answers!
    Question #1:
I read that trusted.certs was not backwards compatible for Java. By this I mean that a "Java Runtime 6 Update 11" generated trusted.certs could not be read / used by "Java Runtime 6 Update 26". Is this correct?
    Question #2:
Part A: Does a fresh install of Java create the trusted.certs file upon installation or at the time Java is first run after install?
Part B: When the trusted.certs is created does it do a file check to see if trusted.certs file already exists? If so does it delete and generate a fresh trusted.certs or does it leave the existing file?
Reason I ask this is that we are getting a java.io.FileNotfoundException for the trusted.certs file. This I believe to be caused by a failed upgrade of Java. When uninstalling "Java Runtime 6 Update 26" it displays "Java Runtime 6 Update 11". This leads me to believe that the trusted.certs is still for Update 11 and not Update 26 which would cause this error even after a fresh install of Java.
I would love your input and knowledge! Thank you again for your time!

I am not aware of any trusted.certs file being distributed with Java. Are you referring to the cacerts file?

  • Proper way to mix new Airport Extreme with Airport Express, wired and wirel

I currently have several macs. Two of them have 1000 airport (macbook pro and macpro), the other 3 have 100 speed.
I have one Airport Express I'm using now. I'd like a faster setup though.
Here's how I've got it wired up now:
    1. I go from my cable modem into a 10/100 Linksys wired router
    2. A Net gear 10/100/1000 4-port switch is hooked to the router
    3. My airport Express is hooked to the switch
    4. my 4 other macs then are hard wired with regular ethernet cable to the switch.
So, my wireless is only for the device(s) that need it, and all other macs go through wires to the switch.
Now, I want to buy a new Airport Extreme to increase my wireless speed when copying files and sharing my iTunes library.
Will having the Express on the network make the Extreme jump down to 100 speed? Or, should I buy a new router, a 10/100/1000 router, and just plug the new Extreme right into it, thereby separating it technically from the slower Express/wired stuff?
I guess I won't even need the Express anymore unless I use it for my older macs that don't have the new n speed airport cards, right?
any insight would be helpful, I'd hate to buy stuff I don't need, and vice versa.

Please try taking the readings again using iStumbler's Inspector feature (select Edit > Inspector from iStumbler's menu) to determine the Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR) at your iMac for the following two cases:
o Case_#1: Just the AEBSn. (Temporarily unplug the AX for this reading.)
o Case_#2: When the network is configured for WDS.
Within the Inspector, on the Properties tab, note the values for "signal" & "noise" for each of these cases. These values should be negative.
SNR is the signal level (in dBm) minus the noise level (in dBm). For example, a signal level of -53dBm measured near an access point and typical noise level of -90dBm yields a SNR of 37dB, a healthy value for wireless LANs.
    SNR Guideline
    o 40dB+ SNR = Excellent signal
    o 25dB to 40dB SNR = Very good signal
    o 15dB to 25dB SNR = Low signal
    o 10dB to 15dB SNR = Very low signal
    o 5dB to 10dB SNR = No signal
For Case_#1, if the SNR is 20+dB, you may consider not using a WDS as this SNR value would represent decent Wi-Fi performance at your iMac's location from the AEBSn alone. If it's less than 20dB, then the WDS would be required. ... and, if this is the case, you would want to place the AX within the 20+dB range of the AEBSn to make sure it has the strongest signal to repeat.

  • Another NewB question about Cubase LE / monitoring and click

I am using Tascam 1804 and Cubase LE on windows XP.
I want to record analog signal on Cubase LE, but hear monitoring from Tascam. That goes well as long I want to hear CLICK as well through Tascam. Is this possible? How?
I have tried to utilize ASIO, no result. I can see that Tascam received click by MIDI (green light blinks according to click), but no click sound from headphones.
Please advice, how to make clicking to Tascam in a simple way.
    Thanks,
    Jani

What you need to do to monitor VST effects in Cubase in real time whilst recording.
This is Applicable to all EMU patchmix soundcards eg. EMU 0404, 1212.
    1. Switch off Direct monitoring in Cubase.
    2. Switch off Direct monitoring in patchmix: Mute the input channel(s) you are using in patchmix.
    Q. Why does this work?
    A. You currently can not hear the effects whilst recording because Cubase is using the unprocessed signal as the monitor signal. What you want it to do is to hear the processed signal. Therefore Switch Off Direct Monitoring.
    HOW-TO
= Switch off Direct Monitoring in Cubase =
    1. On the toolbar Click on Devices=>Device Setup
    2. In Device Setup Click on VST multitrack
    3. Untick Direct Monitoring
    4. Click on Control Panel Button
    5. Set ASIO Buffer Latency to a low figure. Say 5ms
(The lower the Buffer Latency the more the 'responsive' the computer.)
    6. Press OK (Your Back in Device Setup)
    7. Press OK
    HOW-TO
= Mute Input channel(s) you are using in patchmix =
    1. Run the patchmix software
    2. Click on the M button@ bottem of fader to mute the input channels.
    Done :-)
