Yesterday an extra Google Search Box was placed in the body of one of my home pages. Cannot get rid of it.

I use Firefox as my reading browser and sometime ago stumbled upon a method to make the most visited sites readily available by having photos of their sites as a supplemental home page. Yesterday a large Google Search box was added at the top of that page that I neither want nor need. I search from the address bar. Always have. I've done everything recommended to reset the home page and nothing seems to work. How do I get rid of that space hogging search field (it reduced the size of the 9 site photos that formerly occupied that page;I just click on the page to open a site). I captured a screen shot, but it seems to be awfully large. Can I get rid of it? It just showed up yesterday.

In order to uninstall a possibly unwanted extension, please do the following:
#Click the menu button [[Image:New Fx Menu]] and choose Add-ons.
#Once the Add-on Manager has opened in a new tab, click the ''Extensions'' button on the left side of the window.
#You should now see a list of your installed extensions on the right side together with buttons on the right side of each extension.
#To remove an extension from Firefox, simply click the Remove button. You should see a message that informs you about the successful removal of the add-on.
#Note that some add-ons require a Firefox restart to be removed completely. To perform a Firefox restart after the add-on removal, click the ''Restart now'' link in the message.
You can find further information about uninstalling extensions in the following articles:

  • Typing Postcode In Google Search Box Locked Safari!

Last night my wife was addressing an envelope, but the name of the road she had been given was somewhat illegible so I typed the Postcode into the Google search box to find out the exact name.
To my surprise, an "error" page appeared saying that it appeared that my computer was trying to do something illegal . . . . . . . it might have a virus or spyware . . . . . . . or might be sending off some of these multiple messages (I can't remember the precise wording).
I was given one of those boxes with funny shaped characters to copy in order to unlock my internet connection.
Out of curiosity I tried another postcode, with the same result.
However, this time, typing the strange characters did not work, but I was able to unlock my connection by deleting the Google cookies from my Safari preferences.
This morning I tried again, partly in order to copy the exact wording of the message, but try what I might, I couldn't get the error message.
Every time I typed in a Postcode, a map of the appropriate road quickly appeared just as normal!
Any idea what was going on? Has it happened to you? Do I need to be concerned?

    Hi Ian...
It's not a virus. They probably want you to purchase security software. Nothing to be concerned about.
Also, if that happens again, besides deleting cookies, from your Safari menu bar click Safari / Preferences then select the Autofill tab. Click the Edit button next to *Other forms*
    Delete all Google related url's.
    Quit Safari then relaunch Safari.

  • The cursor in the Google search box flashes but is not activated

I asked this question on the Google forum but was directed to the Mozilla forum. i know I am not the only one with this problem, but I have not seen a solution. I have no extensions installed. i don't understand how a cursor can appear activated without actually working. i have to click in the search box before the cursor starts to work.
Is this caused by Google or Firefox?
    I am using Windows 7 .
    Thanks for any help.

How Firefox is opened should not matter.
It could be the work of one of your add-ons, or even add / mal-ware.
Open your '''Add-ons Manager <Control><Shift > A''' and make sure you
know what each one is and what it does.
Some added toolbar and anti-virus add-ons are known to cause
Firefox issues. '''Disable All of them.'''
Also, check the programs that are on your computer
'''Windows:''' Start > Control Panel > Uninstall Programs.
    '''Mac:''' Open the "Applications" folder.
    '''Linux:''' Check your user manual.
Go thru the list. If you find something that you don't
know what it is, use a web search.

  • Google search box in Safari not displaying matches

    Hello,
I just did the latest Software Update on both my MacBook Pro and iMac (the update was a new iTunes--version 10.3). I'm not sure why this is happening, but when I use the Google search box (located in the upper-right corner of the Safari window), I no longer see a list of possible matches to what I'm typing. Both of my computers now do not display them, yet it has always done this in the past.
Does anyone have a solution to this, or do you know what happened?
    Thank you very much.

My guess is Google did something wrong, figured it out and fixed it. The suggestions feature went away in Safari for Google, but not for bing, and continued to work in Firefox. It is all fixed this morning. I happened to be using Google when it stopped functioning, it had nothing to do with updates to the Mac, since as it went south I restarted in an earlier Snow Leopard version and discovered it was not working there either. So it was a Google action that caused the mishap, nothing that Apple did. Anyway, all's well now.

  • My homepage is Google but the logo and search box seems higher on the page than normal...can I adjust the position?

I had to set the settings on Google to Do Not Use Google Instant in their search settings as no cursor was showing on the google search box. After the change it seems that the Google logo and search box seems higher on the Firefox page. I would like to be able to adjust the height of the Google logo/search box. Please tell me if I can make that adjustment.

Thank you for the information about the zoom feature on Firefox. I had found that under the View menu (although I did find it was a temporary fix and the Tools/Options/Font method does change it for a "stick") and changing the font size does increase the size and enlarges or "moves" the logo and search box on Google but that also increases the font size displayed in the search screen. I was hoping to find a way to move the Google logo and search box down on the home page a bit but not change the font size but realize that may be too fine of an adjustment. The zoom feature added to the toolbar via customization may be a good solution for me. Thank you again for your helpfulness.

  • Cursor focus is changed to address bar instead of google search box on new tabs in FF 17.

I've seen several threads that describe the same issue - the cursor appears in the address bar by default on a new tab. I have not seen a single solution. Mozilla needs to sort this out because it's very annoying.
This started happening only after I updated to FF 17. Until that point the cursor was in the google search box. It was just a FF update, no new extensions or add-ons. The only workaround I have is the Custom New Tab extension.
I just don't want to have to install new extensions to add functionality every time they update to a new version that creates new issues. FF already lacks some basic tab management functionality which forces me to use extensions s.a Tab Utilities. It's been 17 versions already and FF still doesn't let me set up new tabs from Bookmarks, Address bar, etc, or multi-row tabs / bookmarks, new tab position / focus, right-click menu options, etc etc etc. Just don't make it worse guys.

Why is the default behavior designed to behave that way? That is very annoying and many people have complained about this.
For years the cursor in a new window or new tab would go to the first text menu like for me in the Google search box. This was always the way in Firefox till I started using 17.0.1 in Windows 7.
It seems like this could be addressed and I doubt this was suppose to be the default behavior.
It is actually one of the most annoying things about Firefox now, as this was something I use to do alot was start a new tab and start typing my search right away or just hit ctrl-v to paste something I'd just copied. Now that goes in the address bar and makes me spend more time fixing the bad address and stupid search results from that.
Please someone give us a solution.

  • How do get rid of the google search box when I first open Firefox?

How do get rid of the google search box when I first open Firefox?

Firefox 4 and later versions use a new build-in home page named <b>about:home</b> with a Google search bar on it.
That about:home page only shows some snippets and has a button to restore the previous session if applicable.
If you want a home page with extras then set another page as the home page like www.google.com as used in Firefox 3 versions.

I usually can eventually access the router, but it is way to much trouble.  However, I use my iPad hundreds of times more often than my laptop.

Are you typing http:// in front of the IP address of the router? e.g. http://192.168.0.1
Sometimes, and with some routers it doesn't seem to like it if you miss off the http://
