Yet again another problem with Firefox Beta and Hotmail

So, I think the new version of firefox 4.XXX does not like hotmail or vice versa. When in hotmail and composing a new message, I cannot add attachments at all. I once again verified that I had this ability in the most current version of Firefox and in Safari. Everything works fine. Did the usual junk, dumped my cache, etc. And I am still having a problem with the calendar not loading. I use to work in IT in a support function and I can clearly tell you that the new browser does not like Windows Live/ Hotmail, whatever you want to call it. It is broken, so please fix this because I like the new browser other than the hotmail issues.

Many site issues can be caused by corrupt cookies or cache. In order to try to fix these problems, the first step is to clear both cookies and the cache.

To clear cache and cookies do the following:
#Go to Firefox > History > Clear recent history or (if no Firefox button is shown) go to Tools > Clear recent history.
#Under "Time range to clear", select "Everything".
#Now, click the arrow next to Details to toggle the Details list active.
#From the details list, check ''Cache'' and ''Cookies'' and uncheck everything else.
#Now click the ''Clear now'' button.

This is the second time I have been unable to open Firefox after an update. On both occassions nothing is displayed (no splash screen, nor errors). A firefox.exe task is then shown in Task Manager.

Another Problem with FIREFOX & iWeb?

I know there have been problems with the latest Firefox version & photo pages. I managed to get that figured out.
Is anyone else experiencing this Problem:
I make a change to one of my pages, publish it to a folder & upload using cyberduck. When I check my website using Firefox, the change does not appear. Only when I hit the browser's REFRESH button does the change register. This does NOT happen with Safari---everything is perfect.
Is this a common problem? Is there a fix?

Yep... go to Firefox> Preferences>Security>Private Data>Settings and ensure that Cache is checked. Then make sure that Always clear... is checked. This will clear your cache when you shut down FF. If you don't want to shut down and reopen FF then then go to Private Data>Clear Now. Either way you get the data from a prvious session erased... cos FF checks whether it already has a page from your website in cache. If it has it will load this page (because it is quickly available in cache) rather than the new page that would have to be downloaded if it was not in cache. Presumably you already have the same securioty settings already set up in Safari, but didn't know so!

Another problem with Tuxedo XA and informix

In an application running Tuxedo 6.5 with Informix DS 7.3 sometimes writes
the following message in the ulog.
LIBTUX_CAT:1397: WARN:tpreturn transaction processing failure
may be due to a transaction timeout???
and with the XA trace running seems like some xa_rollback statements return
with error when a transaction involves two servers in different groups. the
line is some like this:
.........TRACE:XA: 0xc0 0x3ccf8af 0x1 xa_rollback = -4
(-4 = XAER_NOTA)
Is Tuxedo or Informix loosing the XID???
Apparently, despite this, nothing serious happens, i guess because the
transaction is currently rollingback. But 1 or 2 times a week, the Informix
Server stop responding and the entire app. must be restarted.
Any ideas??

This looks to be something I've observed with other TPM and other
DBM. The root cause is the DBM being, er, flexible with the XA
specification. The conjecture is that something happened to your
Transaction Branch in Informix and it voted rollback on the prepare
but it didn't wait, as the specification requires, to forget the
Transaction Branch and then when Tuxedo issued the rollback there
wasn't a valid Transaction XID that the DB knew about, so XAER_NOTA
(Not a Transaction).
Oracle does much the same thing with when the TM value on the Open
string is too small and this may be the reasoning behind the
"transaction timeout" message.

Yet again another problem!

First 'disk cannot be read'
That causes me to unplug the ipod, then plug it back in.
I've tried, USB hubs, flipping every usb i have in my computer, restoring the ipod, re-installing itunes...
I was about 450 songs in with all their artworks all nice and neat.
I then again RE-connect the ipod touch to keep working on my music and... 'yay' all the time i've put into organizing the music disappears out of nowhere, 2 gigs worth of music... gone! Not to mention that I can't even put a freaking movie in this thing.
Why? How? I have no freaking clue.
I'm sorry, I tried... but I can't stand this thing anymore. I'm returning this tomorrow.

Another problem with swfloader (subapplication) and gc

I am trying to load a swf sub-application using the swfloader. I know that this is a well-discussed topic but i cannot find the reason why the air gc does not get rid of the loaded subapplication or -in a better way- why does it get rid of some intances and other instances remain in the memory (cumulative instances 10, instances 4 never destroyed). I would like to mention that if i remove the mx:Image from the subApplication tha garbage collector works fine loading and unloading the swf correctly.
As you can see i have created an event (dispatched from the parent application ) that cleans up the subapplication in order to avoid garbages.
i would be gratefull for any piece of advice.

i set the image.source = null and evaluateNow() but still the problem exists. Random instances remain while other instances (the majority)are garbage collected. At the moment, i am profiling and while i have 106 cumulative instances of the sub application i have still 6 instances alive that the garbage collector failed to collect (why not these 6???what was the difference of these 6 objects comparing to the other 100 that were removed from the memory!).
While debugging i observed the following output ( Remember testLoad.swf is the parent and SubApp is the loaded subapplication)

I can't view video on certain sites. It seems to be a problem with Firefox 9 and 10 for Mac.

Ever since I upgraded to Firefox 9 on my laptop and Firefox 10 on my desktop (Mac OSX 10.6), I haven't been able to view video on certain sites. I can get youtube and vimeo and hulu no problem. However, it seems I cannot view video on sites where it seems to be embedded.
Examples are velonews.com and thedailyshow.com. With the latter, I can't even see the site any more.
BTW, I also can't access the firefox help system because it won't take my password. I'm doing this on Safari.

If you use extensions (Tools > Add-ons > Extension) like Adblock Plus or NoScript or Flash Block that can block content then make sure that such extensions aren't blocking content.
If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
*Use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions.
* Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")

Another problem with iTune 8 and Vista

iTunes downloaded and updated. successfully on a Vista machine
However, when I try to start iTunes, I get the messag " Preparing to install iTunes", closely follwed by "Windows is try to configure"
Then after a while the system says it needs to reboot to complete the configuration.
So I reboot , then after the restart I try to start iTunes and the same happens all over again

I found a solution that at least worked in my case. The iTunes desktop shortcut may be pointing to the installation file. To see if iTunes really works, navigate to the iTunes folder under "Program Files." Double click on the file iTunes.exe and see if it starts up. If so, go back to the iTunes.exe file, and click on it with the RIGHT mouse button, hold the button down, and drag the file to your desktop. Select "create shortcut" from the menu. Now rename the new shortcut on your desktop to "iTunes." Now it should start correctly when you click on the new icon. Good luck!

The program does the job but there are 2 questions. I am using a scrollviewer and each time the tab increases the canvas size increases and this is reflected in the scrollview bar getting shorter.
Question 1)
I set the scrollview1 height to 200 ,which was obtained by trial and error, increasing causes the extents to go outside the box etc,
the window height was 300 , is it possible to automatically set the scrollviewer height.
Question 2)
Is it possible to put the canvas and scrollviewer into the XAML I tried but failed

You should not specify an explicit height if you want an element to fill the available space. Just set the VerticalAlignment property to Strecth (which is the default value for a ScrollViewer:

Well, you could define the ScrollViewer, i.e. the root element, as a resource and then add access it from the AddTabItem() method like this:

It may not provide that much benefits in this scenario though since you are setting the height and the background of the Canvas dynamically but it is indeed possible.

iTunes is a mess! It couldn't find it's own libraries and I was forced to create a new one. Now I don't know where my music is or if any's missing.

Sometime I search a pdf file in google, but when I right click on the link and choose "save link as" or "download with IDM" it says that the target is url (html extension) and save a webpage file. It happens with firefox 4 and there's no problem in IE.

First, I sent an email to the author of PhotoME to inform him of the serious issues his addon caused with Firefox latest versions.
Now, for those of you who do not have the PhotoME addon and yet experience the same problem that I had and that I described above, I suggest the following strategy.
As PhotoME did cause these problems with Firefox latest versions, I am pretty covinved other addons probably might cause these problems too. Therefore, adopt the following method.
Test one addon at a time to see if this particular addon is behind your Firefox issues like the ones I had.
So, disable one addon only at a time. Then close your Firefox and restart it from scratch and see if you still have your Firefox problems. You must restart the Firefox browser from scratch. If you still have these Firefox problems, re-enable the disabled addon, restart your Firefox (again!) and repeat the same method for every single addon that you have.
Try to be selective by choosing first addons that are more likely to cause your Firefox problems such as not very well-known or not very popular addons (like it was the case for the PhotoME addon).
If this method works or if it does not work, report it on this web page so that others can be helped with your comments.
I hope this method will help you because I was really upset that I had these Firefox problems and I first thought it was the fault of Firefox, only to discover later that this PhotoME addon was the culprit and had caused me such upset.

i cant login anywhere as all my passwords are saved in firefox, i cant even access teh firefox preference to get my password, it's so sad

You likley have a corrupted Firefox preference or other support file in your User/Library folder.
Programs load these files from the user account to adjust to user specifications, instead of having multiple copies of the same program on the machine.
So when you reinstalled Firefox, it reinstalled the progrma only and the user support files remained from before.
To prove this point, use System Preferences to create another Admin account and log into it, Firefox should run like a charm.
To remove the Firefox support files from the problem user account your going to need to locate these files and delete them one at a time and try FF again and again.
The first one you shoull try is your FF .plist file located in your User/Library folder.
Clicm on the Finder and use the Go > Go to Folder and paste this
~/Library/Preferences
and press Go.
Now scroll down until you see the Firefox or Mozilla .plist file and Trash it, quit and restart Firefox, it will recreate the preference file with default settings you will have to reset it.
Next run through the list of fixes #1-13 here before proceeding.

If you need help deleting other FF files, download the free Easy Find from MacUpdate.com and search for anything "Mozilla" or "Firefox" in your User account only and take your chances you hopefully won't delete your password file in the process.
You should have site passwords written down someplace and locked up tightin case you need them, a computer isn't totally safe and reliable.

My search bar in google now turns blue and I can not see what I am typing. Why? I read somewhere it's a problem with Firefox. Is there a fix for this?

For me, the google search bar turns blue once I've typed in a search term, but then want to click on it again to change or add something. The entire bar turns blue. I can still type, but it's hidden. Then when I click Search, it does bring up my search results and now the terms I've written are showing in the search bar, with no blue.
The only way to get out of it when the blue is there, is to reload the page.

10.4.10 image problem with Firefox and Photoshop on Intel and OD AFP server

We are working on a new client image (perfect client image to deploy with Netboot) and our Intel machines, new and old, are throwing errors in CS2 Photoshop and refusing to launch Firefox when we log in to home folders from the OSXserver, local accounts run OK. The Intel Mac Pros we got last year ran Photoshop fine using last years image. Power Macs are running OK logged in on the server and local. The biggest variable is we are now running 10.4.10, the last image was 10.4.9. Anyone seen this, any thoughts, I have tried everything I can think of.

I haven't had any problems with 10.4 and solaris 10. At some point Apple upgraded to some version of OpenSSH that required the addition of the -Y switch to make things work well.

Whatsnew page for 3.6.17 has formatting problems with Firefox and I.E.

I just updated from 3.6.16 to 3.6.17n and the whatsnew page, displayed after Firefox restarted, has formatting problems in the lower right hand corner.
I checked it with I.E. 8 and it also shows the formatting problem.
Why wasn't this caught before the page was put into "production"?

There is a line with the text "Release Notes » Firefox Features » Firefox Help »" that is being displayed on top of other material.
I wonder what a new Firefox user or an inexperienced user would think of this? They might think that they did something wrong or, worse, they might consider Firefox had problems and they won't use it.
This reflects badly on Firefox.
One more thing, could someone make this textarea taller and wider. It is so small as to cause problems typing and proofing the material.

How about upping the cols and rows values? They are currently rows="10" cols="40"

As you have a Power Mac you also have a alternative option to consider which is a third-party build from http://tenfourfox.blogspot.com/2011/08/601-now-available.html
