Yet another academic question - Latest Graphics Cards

For those of you with the latest towers and graphic cards -
Is there any option to effectively chroma/luma clamp the output from these ?
Or if not is there the ability to adjust values in a meaningful way ...
With nVidia software or with some third party application ?

ok - I've headed over to nVid's site and got this snippet
"Video Color Correction
Corrects differences in color characteristics of RGB monitors and TV monitors and ensures videos are not too dark, overly bright, or washed out regardless of the video format or display.
Integrated TV Output
Provides world-class TV-out functionality (Composite/S-Video/Component) up to 1080i resolution."
Can anyone have a quick squiz in the nVidia app to see if the above can be got at or altered -
or is it a blanket, "We know better than you - so we have set it up to compensate for your own ineptitude."
lol, no offense meant.
cheers
edit: What there ?
RGB's, gamma, luminance values - sorry don't have access to check it for myself. tia

  • Sattelite 1410-question about Graphic Card

I've bought a Sattelite 1410-401 and i'm having quite some troubles with my graphic card, with moving images i can see black spots flickering through the image (no problems with stills however) ( i have downloaded the latest Nvidia drivers) wich is pretty annoying.
I'm also annoyed by the fact this graphic card doesn't support Pixel shader and that it only has 16MB RAM (not shared) my question(s) is(/are): Is there a way to get rid of those pesky black pixels and is there a way to replace or upgrade my video card?

    Hello
I dont think that the black spots are a fault of a graphic card.
You say that you use the nVidia graphic driver. This is not correct. You should use the original Toshiba graphic driver or this unit. This you can find on the Toshiba website. Sometimes for watching some avi or mpeg files your need a different codex. You can find many informtions about this theme.
Furthermore you can change primary parts (memory, hdd) on you unit but its impossible to replace the graphic card.

  • Question about  Graphics Cards for Adobe and more

Hello, for technical people I'll start by listing some relevant computer info:    Asus P9x79Pro Motherboard . Nvidia Quadro 4000 2GB . Windows 7 . Adobe CS6
I have a workstation PC and have been considering ways to improve it. I'm pretty happy with both Memory and Processor, so now I'm looking at the Graphics Card. I got the Quadro specifically because it was listed on Premiere's list of Mercury Accelerated Playback cards. I have no real issues with it, but I'm wondering if I'm getting everything I can out of it. I also use Resolve often and occasionally Maya, but not often. Sometimes these other programs feel sluggish. I'd like a set up that is most optimal for Adobe PPro and AE, but is also good for Resolve. I'm less worries about Maya.
My motherboard can support 4 GPU's, but I've never had more than 1 before. I'm curious how to go about it.  What sort of advantages will I get with a second GPU, how will this help me? Since I have a Quadro, should I get another Quadro? Should I run them SLI or run them independently? I've also been looking at the GTX Series, would those be preferable? If so, how should I set up my system, run monitors off 1 and use the other as a GPU boost? I really don't know enough about multi-GPU set ups, and I can't seem to find the answers I'm looking for, so any and all help is appreciated.
    Thank you

  • Need latest graphic card drivers for Satellite Pro M70

I've had this PC for only a few months now and i've been disappointed to have heard that my drivers are WAY out of date. The only drivers i can find are on here and they are only v.8 something (although the game reads this as an older version).
The problem comes in when i want to play games like Half Life 2 and CSS, the game crashes because these drivers are out of date. Where can i get the LATEST drivers for the ATI Mobility Radeon x700 card for the Toshiba Pro M70?

    Hi Stephanus
First of all you must not be disappointed about that because you must understand few things. Because of notebook construction it is not recommended to force graphic card to run at the limit. Using latest drivers you do exact something like that. More performance means more warmness and I hope yo know very well what happen when notebook is too hot.
I am not 100% sure but I presume that Toshiba priority is to provide hardware protection. I saw that some other notebook manufacturers offer latest drivers but there is also notice that they are not responsible if something goes wrong.
One more thing: you have mobile computer and not desktop.

  • Question about graphics card and motherboard

My laptop is a dv6500 CTO. I have the geforce 8400M GS video/graphics card in my laptop. Recently I was playing a game and my computer locked up. I restarted my computer and had a message from Windows 7 saying my graphics card stopped working. I than checked my device manager and it said the card was working properly. Well now it dies if I am watching a video, playing any game it lasts for about 5 mins.
I than went to the device manager and disable my card. Before my card was disabled, I was still able to loud windows fine. This is where I have my biggest question. If I disable my card, than why is it that I can still use my computer? Does the motherboard have a small chipset for video besides the graphics card? Is this graphics card welded on the motherboard or can I replace it?
I always thought on laptops the graphics card was part of the motherboard and if it went out than my screen would go out and that would be the end of it. Is that not true? Thanks for the help.

Here are the specs for your HP Pavilion p6-2371ea Desktop Computer. According to the specs, this model shipped with Windows 8 and a 300 watt power supply. To use the GTX 650 Ti you will need to upgrade the power supply to a 500 watt or 600 watt unit. The Corsair CX500 and CX600 are known to fir most HP comsumer desktop computer cases and come highly recommended. The next thing you need to do is DISABLE "Secure Boot" and ENABLE "Legacy Support" in the BIOS. Doing these things should resolve your issue.

  • Buying an iMac - questions on graphics card

Okay, so I've been wanting to get a new Mac for a while. I figured I might as well now, as I'm planning on buying the upcoming game StarCraft 2. I don't really need a gaming computer, but that particular game I don't think I cannot live without.
Anyways, I wanted to make sure I bought the right computer, as it would suck not to play the right game. I'm stuck between the one with a NVIDIA GeForce 9400M graphics card and the one with the ATI Radeon HD 4670 card. Now, I'm as noobish as it gets when it comes to system specs, so I would appreciate some help on what to choose.
Here are the game's system reqs:
    *Minimum System Requirements*:
    Mac® OS X 10.5.8, 10.6.2 or newer
    Intel® Processor
    NVIDIA® GeForce® 8600M GT or ATI Radeon® X1600 or better
    12 GB available HD space
    2 GB Ram
    DVD-ROM drive
    Broadband Internet connection
    1024X720 minimum display resolution
    Recommended:
    Mac® OS X 10.6.3 or newer
    Intel® Core 2 Duo processor
    4 GB system RAM
    NVIDIA® GeForce® 9600M GT or ATI Radeon® HD 4670 or better
Question 1) Both would run the game, right?
Question 2) I really want it to fit the recommended system requirements. Does that work with the 9400, or should I opt for the 4670?

    Mac Pro, yes.
All laptops and Mini, no - only by buying a new model.
iMacs - theoretically some of them you can, since some use the somewhat standard MXM connector for the video card, but practically you can't because a) almost no-one sells them retail, b) no-one sells them with Apple firmware, and c) they won't have appropriate heatsinks. You could salvage e.g. a 4850 out of an i5 iMac 27" and put it into a Core2 iMac 27", but that would involve having an i5 to strip down. If you have a friendly Mac service centre nearby then this might just be possible.
But probably not. So, iMac - no, only by buying a new model.
On the upside, you can often sell a 2 year old Mac for 70% of its original price, so the upgrade route isn't that bad financially.

  • Question About Graphics Card Compatibility

I have the HP p6-2101 that I use primarily for gaming. I was looking to upgrade my graphics card to the EVGA GeForce GTX Ti FTW edition, and I was just wondering how I could make sure it was compatible. Thanks!

Hi, There isn't any sure way to determine if a specific graphics card other than the HP OEM certified cards for your PC will work. The reality is that there is no guarantee that any particular graphics card will work in any particular PC even if the graphics card works in other PCs or even the same or similar model PCs. Know what the return policy is before you buy. Most of the newer graphics cards require that you PC runs the HP version 8 BIOS. There is a version 7.23 BIOS update available for your PC but I don't think it will help if you want to use the NVIDIA GTX 7xx ot 9xx graphics cards. ZOTAC sells some GTX series graphics cards that are compatible back to PCI-E 1.1 and these card may work with when match with the appropriate power supply. Contact Zotac for a recommendation and know what the return policy is before you buy.

  • Question about graphics cards for Equium L40 - 10X

Hi - new to this but really hacked off so hopefully someone can help me.!
I bought a Equium L40 - 10X in August and thought it was good for what I wanted, especially after seeking advice and speaking to 'an expert' at my local pcworld.
However, I think the graphics card is not good enough to support the games I have got - Medal of Honour Warchest, Hitman Triple Pack and Call of Duty 2. They all sem to recommend a nVidia graphics card as a minimum requirement. The card in the laptop is an Intel(R) 945 Express Chipset Family (I think) and the OS is Vista Home Premium.
Problems I am experiencing include loss of graphics and stuttering during play.
Can I upgrade to an nVidia graphics card or is the one I have got sufficient but I just need to change some settings?
Haven't got a clue really, so help would be much appreciated!

    > I bought a Equium L40 - 10X in August and thought it was good for what I wanted, especially after seeking advice and speaking to 'an expert' at my local pcworld.
Either you was not clear enough or the expert from pcworld have provided the wrong information and wrong advice.
Fact is that the Intel shared GPU was not really designed to play the newest games.
The shared graphic card is simply not powerful enough to run such games smoothly!
    > Can I upgrade to an nVidia graphics card or is the one I have got sufficient but I just need to change some settings?
NO, this is not possible because the notebooks graphic cards are fixed on the board and cannot be removed.

  • T430S questions about graphic card

as you see ,there 3 different graphic cards to choose for your laptop. Now i'm so curious about the first one—N13M NS,which I have never heard of this before.Someone told me it's similar to HD4000 or GT610`````
But why the second choice is HD4000 but the price is higher than the first, whether it is just because of the SSD?~~~
Than, i am a student in design ,i often use PS Ai and Axure. i wonder whether N13M-NS is benefit for this kind of design softwares, and how many degree it can express ,as same as Gt630?when you use it for graphic design?

I think there are 2 graphics options, integrated (Intel) and discrete (nVIDIA Optimus).  I think the first and 3rd ones have the same chip and they are described inconsistantly.  The 2nd machine listed is more expensive than the first because of the SSD and a faster CPU. The 3rd is faster than the 2nd for similar reason (CPU, more memory and bigger SSD). I don't know much about the applications you are running, but in general, integrated graphics (like the middle ones) use less power (longer battery life), run cooler, but don't do well on full-motion video (like games). If your applications are doing 2D design, I doubt you could tell the difference. If you build 3D models and go through processes like rotations, the discrete models are better. The SSD will be mostly noticable in faster startup times, although if you store a lot of big files like pictures and videos, the platter-style disks have more space.

  • Yet another PEAP question...non-Cisco cards...

So, we are about to embark on building a wireless network infrastructure using 1220 AP's. So far all wireless clients use Cisco cards and Win2k.
People are interested in all sorts of wireless devices now, some including built in wireless nics or no pci or pcmcia card slots.
We have ACS 3.1.1. Can we use PEAP in our situation with a client using say a Compaq tablet PC with an integrated NIC? Or, how about a desktop PC running Win2k using something other than a Cisco card? If so, what are the required pieces? PEAP supplicants? etc?
    Thanks!

    Hi ,
    In short answer is
    a) If ACS supports eap-chap ( which microsoft supports ) , you can use
non cisco card with microsoft supplicant and will work fine
I believe acs 3.2 will support is , I am not sure on acs3.1.1
    b) You can buy 3rd party supplicant like meeting house etc and can use
    non cisco card
    http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/779/smbiz/wireless/wlan_security.shtml
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/partner/products/hw/wireless/ps458/prod_bulletin09186a0080100194.html
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/partner/products/hw/wireless/ps430/products_qanda_item09186a008010018c.shtml
PEAP is hybrid process ( combination of leap and eap tls )
To download server side certificate on ACS you can use eap tls doc.
Depending on AP use either of following doc
    http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/wireless/airo_350/accsspts/ap350scg/ap350ch8.htm
    http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/wireless/airo1100/accsspts/i1224ja/i1224icg/ivicgaut.htm
You have to careful while selecting the client supplicant , you can choose Cisco peap supplicant or Microsoft peap supplicant
You can have Microsoft peap supplicant or Cisco Peap supplicant .
If you have windows 2000 OS , than if you load service pack3 , Microsoft peap supplicant is installed . On top of this if you install ACU 5.05 microsoft supplicant wil be overwritten by Cisco supplicant .
In case of XP , if you install service pack 1 , it will install microsoft peap supplicant , if you install ACU 5.05 it will be overwriteen by Cisco Peap supplicant .
Microsoft peap supplicant send eap-Chap in EAP tunnel and Cisco support EAP-GTC in eap tunnel .
with non cisco card it depends on which radius server and database you are running .
At present ACS 3.1 supports EAP-GTC so it will not interoperate with Microsoft supllicant . In later release ACS will have support for EAP-Chap so
that you can use 3rd party card with Microsoft supplicant and ACS3.2

  • Question about graphics card driver updates on Satellite U300 Series

I am trying to install Spyder2 Pro onto Vista home premium 32bit, however I am having problems with it loading onto CS2. I contacted Colorvision and they suggested if the Video Card was more than 6 months old I would need the latest update. I have searched the toshiba/intel websites and have been unable to update this, when I download them and try to install it says I have the most up to date version, this being 7.14.10.1263.
    Can anyone help!

Thanks for the reply Dennis. I downloaded the driver and when I tried to open it I got "+an error saying the driver being installed is not validated for this computer. Please obtain the appropriate driver from the computer's manufacturer+" When I try to update it in device manager it tells me that I have the most up to date driver installed.
I'm not really surprised, as I have had nothing but trouble with Vista since I got the new laptop three months ago. Just wish now I hadn't got rid of my old computer, which was run by xp. I do a lot of pictures and the video card on vista will not allow me to set the contrast to the max setting, which I need to be able to do. You then set it using adobe gamma. However vista or the intel graphics will not allow this. I then got the spyder2 pro, which didnt work. Colorvision said if the driver was more than six months, I needed to update it.
This, it seems is not as easy as you would think. Very frustrating actually. Wish I had of put the extra few hundred towards an Apple mac!
    Thanks for the help

  • Yet Another Workflow Question

Ok I too, like many others here, am new to the Mac (thanks to Apple's I'm a Mac, I'm a PC ads that my wife couldn't get enough of). I have done some searching around and I see that there are quite a few iMovie workflow questions out there. I have not quite found what I am looking for however, so I thought I would make my first post tonight. So here it goes...
I have 3 different ways I capture video:
    1. Canon Vixia HF10 (HD)
    2. Canon Powershot (SD)
    3. Blackberry Storm (SD...I know it isn't a good phone)
I record everything to SD cards. I am wanting to know the best way to store my raw video for editing at any time. Do I copy the AVCHD file structure (for the Vixia) and .avi files (for the other non HD) to my hdd, or do I just import into iMovie '09 and let it reside there, or both? I noticed that iMovie had an archival option (which appears to just copy the AVCHD structure to my hdd), which is why I ask. I want to always keep my raw video in case I decide to go back later and create a new video.
After I have the raw video archived, I would like to know the best way to use iMovie. Depending on where I end up storing the raw video, should I keep the imported video in iMovie once I am finished with a project, and then reimport it at a later date if need be? Or, do I leave it in iMovie as events? I guess this all rely depends on the first question...where do I store the raw video for archival purposes...
Finally, when exporting my iMovie project, should I store that in more of a, pardon the Windows reference, "My Videos" folder with a original size, web optimized size, and ipod optimized size? Thus, keeping the actual exported version of the project separate from the raw video?
I hope I have asked the right questions here. I appreciate any and all help I can get!
    Ron

Welcome Ron to the  iMovie boards..
very interesting : 'switchers' care sooo much for 'storage strategies' ..
the by Apple intended workflow/concept for iApps is:
any 'photocam' related material (still or movin') comes-in via iPhoto, and is stored in an iP Library (=you can tell iP to create 2/many Libs, if you prefer to organize manually....)
any 'camcorder' related material HAS to be imported by iM - why? because, iM has some internal routines to make such material editable (codecs, thumnails, stuff....). the same material as 'file by Finder' does not import.. in most cases!
    storage..
iP stores in its Library (local/internal HDD and/or ext. HDD)
iM stores in Events (local/internal HDD and/or ext. HDD)
to make Projects/Albums accessible to any iApp, you should keep your fingers off that structure.
    Erasing Events 'kills' projects.
allthough, once 'shared to media browser' there's a 'copy' of your project WITHIN the project file. (= the socalled Media Browser is no single Folder somewhere hidden in the system)
there's this Spacesaver feature to erase any Event content which is not in use in any project to keep Events lean.
use the Archive feature from within iM to keep things easy and convenient.. if you miss a single file of the SDcard file-structure, the whole card's content is kaputt ..
    summary:
    • use iApps as intended.
    • use iP for cameras, it stores 'raws' (the avi too)
    • use iM for camcorders, use Archive to store raws..
    • purchase a dozend of HDDs to store your material..
