Yet another Compressor fix thrown into the Fray of dozens...

Hi all, having a hard time with compressor? well, it has cost me the most downtime of any other apple app or apple hardware problem to date, but I think I got it fixed (ha) so here is another solution thrown into the fray that takes a TOTALLY different approach then most of the fixes u see here under compressor crashes and under qmaster problems.
The problem:
Compressor won't start (crashes) - AND/OR- qmaster preference pane crashes - AND/OR- Compressor says "Can't find Queue: u must restart."
Other solutions:
Reinstall just compressor, qmaster, motion using Pacifist - OR- Reinstall FCP2 - OR- Reinstall Leopard and everything else - OR- some crazy combo of the above.
My solution:
Well, as I always have a fully functional external backup drive, other then the TM one, that just has the OS on it, and where I do testing of new apps before putting onto a production machine, I tried this:
1) Booted to my test drive and installed FCP2 with no updates applied.
2) Tested FCP2 at the install DVD level, everything works great.
3) Dragged over just these few items from the test drive to my production drive:
* /Library/Application Support/Apple Qmaster directory
* /Library/PreferencePanes/Apple Qmaster.prefPane
Then, before doing anything else after booting the production drive, I made these changes in the new preference pane:

Now i suppose this fix is good for only those not using clusters and sharing and all of that, but I just wanted this one machine to use compressor, and now it does. Why? Not a clue. But I tried Kashum's fix and a half dozen others, ie. safe mode permissions check, Lingon launchd fix, and of course the apple kb one. The only one I refused to try was a clean reinstall of everything. I'll use premierepro before I ever do that:) Anyway, none of those fixes that required anything less worked permanently. Let's see if this one does!

Advantages of this fix:
* no settings lost
* no need to update any software on your production box
* took about 20 minutes tops, vs. hours/days spent on those others.

Code in a domain file - really? That is not possible because the domain.sites file does not contain any html or css code at all - the domain file is your iWeb data file and you won't see any code until you publish your website.
If you can see html code, then you have the wrong file and it is a published version of your site which iWeb can do nothing with - iWeb has no import facility so cannot open any html files.
Go back and ensure that you have the correct domain.sites files that can be found under your User Library/Application Support/iWeb/domain.sites and if you have Mavericks then you need to go to Go and press the alt key to reveal your hidden User Library, so that you can then get to Application Support and then iWeb and then your domain.sites file.
You will also need to go and download either DomainCracker or iWebSwitch which allows you to open individual domain files under Mavericks, because from Lion onwards, you cannot open individual domain files.
Also, it says that you are still using iWeb 08? If this is so, you'll either need to upgrade to iWeb 09 by going to Amazon and purchasing the iLife 09 or 11 boxed set, both of which contain iWeb 09 or you need to switch to newer software that is actively being supported and developed such as EverWeb (http://www.everwebapp.com).

So new mac book air - updated to the latest OS
Keyboard and mouse lock up - need to restart the airbook to get them to come back
Happens when using apple keyboard and apple mouse in the usb slot and while using onboard touch pad and keyboard..
All updates are done , no new installed software or application ... any help would be great under the gun here ...

Just to be clear...
If we forget about the usb mouse...
Nothing else plugged into the MBA - you power it on - boots up - in OSX you start using the built in keyboard and trackpad - and it will lock up all on it's own? how soon?
when any particular program has been started? or even if it just sits idle?

2. Go to Cart and click Checkout.
3. While checking out Item ITEM1, we need some validation to make another Item ITEM2 mandatory or get added automatically with Item ITEM1.

The help documentation says the following in relation to the creation of new units of measure:
"If required, define new units of measurement according to the international system of units (SI) with the menu function Unit of meaurement -> Create.
Here you have to make make specifications for:
Display (including a descriptive Units of measurement text)
Conversion (not applicable to units of measurement without dimensions)
Data exchange (EDI) (optional)
Application parameters"

Yet another head scratching limitation with the iPhone

I just recently 'upgraded' to the iPhone 4 (from Android) and I am beginning to see that the iPhone/Apple is really not as forward thinking and innovative as I once thought.
For instance, today I learned that it is 'impossible' to transfer files to/from the iPhone (e.g. cannot use the iPhone as a USB data drive). Although some programs do allow transferring of specific files (e.g. audio recorder), however, those limited data transfers are only allowed through iTunes! Are you kidding me?
Well, this poses a dilemma for those who are not allowed to install iTunes in a corporate environment due to IT policy. I also find it ridiculous that, not too long ago, iTunes was required to charge the Apple device? I guess Apple does believe in small incremental evolutionary steps forward after all.
So, what this means is that I must jail break my iPhone just to access a basic feature that every other non-iPhone already has! Unfortunately, Apple insists on playing a cat/mouse game with jail breakers. I believe I need to await the next iOS in order to fix bugs with v4.1 but by doing so I can't jail break. Or I just put up with the bugs and jail break in order to make my iPhone usable in my work environment.

I changed to the iPhone because my HTC Magic was locked in on AOS 2.1 and I was never going to see Corp. Google Apps syncing, hidden SSID WiFi access, and of course the many apps that iPhone has (e.g. fully operational Skype, ZipCar, etc.).
But the grass is not always greener. The iPhone has a whole list of omitted productive and useful features that Android had...and even my 4 year old Windows Mobile phone had. It makes me wonder, Does Apple live in a vacuum?

It is a great multimedia device! No complaints about that! But it would not take much for the iPhone to also be a great business tool and phone. Unfortunately, that which would make it great all around will require jail breaking!

Notifications???? Where are any notifications (besides the pop ups in the locked screen)?
I keep hearing these 'bings' coming from my iPhone but I have no idea what is causing them. On the Android, it is a simple matter of sliding down a window and viewing a historical list of notifications from every participating app. The phone can be set to provide continuous audible and/or visual notification until this notification list is cleared. The fact that the iPhone doesn't have anything like this is baffling to say the least.

In the Canada but keep getting thrown into the U.S. itunes site - seem to be stuck on a vicous circle and can't get the canadian site to let me purchase from them - just says error...any suggestions?

Could my computer be set up for U.S. instead of Canada by mistake?

It looks as if my router is running WEP.
Virtually no security at all there, as there are numerous free utilities available on the Internet that will crack a WEP network in seconds. You might as well run the network wide open, since WEP offers about the same level of protection.
You will not be able to configure the Express using an iPhone, iPad, or any version of AirPort Utility that is 6.x or higher with your router set to use WEP "security". They will not work with WEP, since it is so long out of date and non-secure.
An older version of AirPort Utility 5.x might allow you to configure the Express using WEP security, but with no protection anyway, this would be of little value.
See if your router can be configured to use WPA2 Personal security or WPA/WPA2 Personal security. If it can, then you will be able to use an iPhone, iPad, or any version of AirPort Utility to configure the Express in just a few minutes.
If your router cannot be configured to use stronger current WPA settings, now might be a very good time to ask your service provider for a new router.

hi philly, thanks for getting back to me, especially on such a busy day.
I don't think that's quite the issue though. I bought an album and it appears in 'my purchases' within the itunes app. Yet, in order to listen to the music, i must use the 'music' app and in this application, there are only three tracks displayed at any one time from my downloaded album.
I can 'download all' from the 'my purchases' section but that still doesn't help, it just keeps the last three tracks downloaded in the music app.
I have the 'icloud' enabled and wondered if it had anything to do with that.
i have successfully downloaded another full album totally into the music app, but this first album is causing me problems.

Fixed substitution into PCA (ledger 8A)

I want to achieve a fixed substitution into the fixed ledger PCA, *A. When posting from an FI journal I want the transaction type field to filled filled with a constant value liek 'XXX'. I tired using the fixed field movement (GCI4) but did not succeed there. Also the substitution functionality in PCA is only for sales orders. Anyone any idea's?

Try deleting the book from the bookshelf in your iBooks app and then re-download it via the Purchased tab in the ibookstore in it. If it re-downloads in the same state then use the 'report a problem' link from your purchase history : log into your account on your computer's iTunes via Store > View My Account and you should then see a Purchase History section with a 'see all' link to the right of it ; click on that and you should see a list of your purchases ; find that book and use the 'Report a Problem' link.
Some people have had a problem with the 'report a problem' link (it's been taking people to this site on a browser instead of showing a form in iTunes) - if it does that to you then try contacting iTunes support via this page : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/- click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page.

Additional things to try.
Try this first. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.

Another thing to try - Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.
