Yet another discussion about "dwscriptsExtData.js" (sorry)

Hello, everyone,
I've found (via Google) a few threads in these forums about getting error message popups relating to dwscriptsExtData.js, and how DW is running slow, and whatnot.
So far, the solutions that people have been offering are not working, for me.
There are NO extensions installed, so eliminating all extensions and re-enabling them one-by-one isn't an option.
My dev system is (maybe) two years old.  It's a DELL Latitude with 4GB ram, a 2.8GHz 64-bit CPU, running Windows 7.
There are just a few files in this project that will trigger the error message about a script taking too long to run; the rest don't have an issue.
This is really starting to annoy me.  The error dialog appears, I click 'NO', a different dialog appears, I click 'OK', repeat once.  Then everything is smooth, unless/until I look at a different page and come back to the one that triggered the error.. then it happens, again.
Can anyone offer suggestions (other than the extensions solution)?
V/r,
^_^

That's already checked on.
I went into C: drive via Windows Explorer and used the search bar, looking for "filecache*.dat" and didn't find any that were for DreamWeaver.
V/r,

You need to browse to it, the Windows search function won't show you hidden files and folders without additional shenanigans.
Also, the actual file is WinFileCache-(random numbers and letters).dat
Using "filecache*.dat" as the search term will come up empty handed, at least it did when I tested it from the folder with the WinFileCache*******.dat file in it...

  • Yet Another quesstion about moving Time Machine backups

I have a NAS drive used to back up 3 Macs.  In order to upgrade to a RAID drive, I need to reformat the existing drive (along with the new drive I'm adding to the enclosure) - but that would obviously lose the existing backups. I had planned to move them to another NAS drive that I have, reformat, then move them back.
All the discussions I've seen involve reformatting the target drive (which is not a Time Capsule, but a Buffalo NAS).
I can't do that, because I have lots of archive data  (not backed up by time machine) on that disk I'll be using only temporarily.
So, how can I temporarily move the sparsebundle without buying yet another drive?

I recommend doing as I suggested. Cloning is the only correct way to backup a Time Machine backup drive. If you have data on the other drive you don't wish to lose then create a new partition on that drive. See the following:
To resize the drive do the following:
    1. Open Disk Utility and select the drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list.
    2. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window. You should see the graphical sizing window showing the existing partitions. A portion may appear as a blue rectangle representing the used space on a partition.
    3. In the lower right corner of the sizing rectangle for each partition is a resizing gadget. Select it with the mouse and move the bottom of the rectangle upwards until you have reduced the existing partition enough to create the desired new volume's size. The space below the resized partition will appear gray. Click on the Apply button and wait until the process has completed.  (Note: You can only make a partition smaller in order to create new free space.)
    4. Click on the [+] button below the sizing window to add a new partition in the gray space you freed up. Give the new volume a name, if you wish, then click on the Apply button. Wait until the process has completed.
You should now have a new volume on the drive.
It would be wise to have a backup of your current system as resizing is not necessarily free of risk for data loss.  Your drive must have sufficient contiguous free space for this process to work.

  • Yet another question about 24-bits

I have just combined an Echo Audio Indigo IO with Adobe Audition 1.5 in hopes to have a reasonably good laptop recorder. That need is met quite well.
There are a number of discussions about bit depth in these forums. The answers become obfuscated by internal conversions done in audio cards, software, and Windows drivers. My current interest is simply how to get 24 bits of unadultered data from a D/A convertor to a data file using Audition. This data will be used to analyze pitch, frequency and intonation and any changes to the data will affect the results.
Both the Indigo IO and Audition claim 24-bit support and I am convinced that both meet these claims fully. In spite of this there is no evidence that the card, Windows, and the software together will actually meet this claim without a 16-bit conversion along the line. What really matters is whether or not 24-bits of audio can travel from the card to the data file without any changes.
Question 1: In Audition 1.5 for Windows under "Options/Device Properties/Wave In/Supported Formats" for the Indigo IO the highest density recording listed is 16-bit stereo at a 96K sample rate. What properties do other users find for their 24-bit cards?
Question 2: The wave programming calls (waveInGetDevCaps) don't include capability definitions for anything beyond 16-bit depth at a 96K sample rate. Where in Windows is there evidence of true support for anything greater than 16-bit Audio?
Question 3: What software is there that will go directly to the sound card or driver and write 24 unadultered bits to a file?

I had trouble setting up my 24bit/96k ADAC to record 24-bit in audition. The best way to be sure audition is getting the 24bit samples as 24 bits is to check the status bar when recording. If it says 'Recording as 24 bit' then it's all setup right. If it says 'Recording as 16 bit' then the 32-bit float driver or the 24-bit driver reported an error and audition tried to fall back on the 16 bit version and succeeded. The problem I had was that the driver didn't handle 32-bit floats so it errored out and audition recorded as 16 bits. The only solution was to select the 24-bit option under "Options/Device Properties/Wave In(or out)".
Just a note. A true 24-bit ADC will send 24 bits to the driver and the driver itself will convert the bits to whatever format it supports. If the driver is instructed to convert to normalized floats the software will simply do something like this:
    SampleOut = SampleIn / 8388608.0;
This doesn't add any coloration to the audio because a float is really just a 24 bit integer with 8 bits added to tell the FPU where to put the decimal point. Converting down from 24-bits of course degrades quality and converting from 24 bits up to a true 32 bit integer would NOT add any quality to the audio. When stored in a file, 24 bits is 24 bits whether its a float or an integer.
    >Question 2:The wave programming calls (waveInGetDevCaps) don't include capability definitions for anything beyond 16-bit depth at a 96K sample rate. Where in Windows is there evidence of true support for anything greater than 16-bit Audio?
The website showing waveInGetDevCaps function information doesn't show all the possible format tags or even the sample rates. It is only showing the most compatible forms for drivers. The WAVEFORMAT and WAVEFORMATEX structures used for the drivers are also used in the 'fmt ' chunk of RIFF WAVE files. I've written a lot of software for parallel use with audition using wave files and windows and I can say from experience that when recording 24 bits with audition you're getting the full 24 bits. If your driver truly supports 24 bit samples then audition will allow you to select the 24 bit samples option under "Options/Device Properties/Wave In(or out)" and audition will display 'Recording as 24-bits' when recording. Once recorded Audition no doubt converts ALL bit depths to its internal format which I believe is 32 (or 64) bit float, and if you don't process the file and wish to save as 24 bit integers then the samples saved will be exactly what the ADC sent to the driver.

  • Yet another question about super raid - GS70

Yes, another question about Super Raid...I recently picked up the cheapest model of the GS70 on newegg which comes with 1 mSata SSD...just a mediocre one if I remember reading correctly.  I'm interested in using MSI's Super Raid once my warranty is over with and have been reading a couple posts here:
    1. Walk through of how to reinstall OS
    --> https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=167198.msg1224063#msg1224063
    2. I'll need a Super Raid card with links to get some, for about $100 each
    --> https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=171722.msg1252847#msg1252847
    3. I can't get Super Raid unless it originally came with it?
    --> https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=171185.msg1249640#msg1249640
So what's the bottom line? Would I still be able to enable super raid in the future or am I SOL since it didn't come with it originally?
    thanks!

The GT70 CAN come with an adapter that has 2 (on the older, GT70 0NX models) or 3 (on newer GT70 20X models) sockets for mSATA drives. It's an optional part, that takes place of the primary SATA drive in the notebook, and physically has a different part that connects to the motherboard. If it doesn't come with the SuperRaid adapter, then it just has support for a single 2.5" SATA drive.
The GS70 on the otherhand, has this built into the motherboard and there is no swapping it out for a normal 2.5" SATA drive. You can only use mSATA drives (on those ports). The GS70 is meant to be an ultrabook, and therefore does not have the same ability as the GT70 to house up to 2 full size 2.5" SATA drives.
That's really the main difference here. Without physically seeing a GT70 to see how the SuperRaid adapter works, it's slightly difficult to explain.
But in the end, I wouldn't worry about the SuperRaid....The GS70 should have support for Intel Raid Management Engine, in which case that's all you really need.

  • [Ann.] Before starting yet another discussion complaining about InDesign's "Print Booklet ..."

If InDesign's "Print Booklet" feature isn't doing what you want, please try the "Booklet SC 5.0" script (formerly "Booklet CE").
Unlike Print Booklet, Booklet SC doesn't force you to print ... instead, it creates a new InDesign document whose pages are in the proper "saddle stitch" (or perfect bound) order. This allows you to print wherever and whenever you want, or convert to PDF. Also unlike Print Booklet, graphics which span the reader spreads are handled properly.
Booklet SC optionally creates cut marks / printer marks on the output printer spreads, giving additional prepress flexibility.
Booklet SC should still work with earlier versions of InDesign, back to CS2 or so, and up through CS5, Mac and Windows.
    http://sterlingcomputing.com
(Note: after 3 usages, Booklet SC starts to nag you every third time to send $10, to support my espresso habit, reward me for spending all that time writing and testing this complex script, encourage me to keep the script up to date, and help me to know who is using the script. If you cannot afford the $10, you can either live with the nagging, or continue your struggle with Print Booklet.)
    The main dialog:
With an 8-page booklet, the pages are reordered like this:

    Hi Stephen,
Nice looking dialog. I added [Ann.] to the title to make it clear what this post is.
BTW, the dialog looks like it's a Script UI one. That will not work in CS2. Do you have a more basic dialog for CS2, or is this only for CS3-CS5?

  • Yet another question about installing ilife 06 with limited drive space

I received iLife 2006 as a gift for my birthday. I am a happy user of most the iLife 2005 programs (except iDVD, which is useless on my machine with only a Combo drive). I am interested in making use of iWeb and the other improved features of iLife 2006.
My problem is that my 40 GB drive is nearly full, with about 2 GB free. Of this, my iTunes library uses about 15 GB, and the IPhoto library takes another 2 GB or so. I do have a 60 GB iPod with about 25 GB free.
I have read about complications with restoring the iTunes Library from the hidden folder on the iPod. But I wonder if the library could be more easily backed up to the iPod, temporarily deleted from my main hard drive, then restored after installing iLife 2006 (I have read that somewhat less than the full 10 GB is needed after install is complete).
Alternatively, will the iLife 2006 installer allow me to install to the iPod as an external drive, from which I can make adjustments as needed?

You can tell your wife that if you don't get an external hard drive to store your iTunes and iPhoto Library you are a prime target to lose your images and tunes.
Yes, using iWeb you get a new url. I used Contribute to do the fiveafertfive.com site for my daughter's band.
iWeb can create very nice pages and you can see many of them by visiting this link on the iWeb forums. It's eight pages long and lots of sites to look at.
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=1705138#1705138
Unfortunatley, the ability to send albums directly to .mac is no more with iPhoto 6. You can only send them to iWeb to make your page. Then in iWeb you publish your page to your idisk in a different folder.

  • Yet another post about speed issues !

So had my infinity for more than 10wks now. Have been told time n time again by customer service, sales and technical help that I should get between 67 and 80 meg but after countless phone calls and apparent 'tweaks' at the exchange I'm still only getting 46 at best. Openreach engineer I spoke to in the street said it leaves the box in the street ( 2 short streets away ) at 80 so surely the problem is been m between the box and my house! Why don't they send someone to check this. One of the tech help dept even told me my line can only support 40meg and that I have been miss led over the speed! ! Though others have said I can get the higher speed. Another call back promised for today did not receive any call!
Think I'll be joining virgin when this year's contact is up, 10 months to go and counting, unless I can get out sooner for miss selling.

If it's a similar problem would you not expect a similar answer! The reason you are asked to perform speed tests etc is to try and establish where the problem may be.
As most people can not be bothered or do not search the forum before posting and perhaps finding the answer it is necessary for those people who give up their own time to try and help, to post the same thing time and time again.
I just hope that if you do have a problem it is not the same as somebody else may have had since you don't seem to want a cut and paste answer.

  • Yet another question about XServer

    Greetings
Having installed an XVR100 graphics card in a Sunfire V240 and configured it as the default output device, I have managed to get XSun to start and then start X11VNC, however, while I get a nice, graphical Solaris screen, I dont get any login prompt. Just a mention that this is Solaris X11 v 6.6.2 and some console output showing the last "SU" login.
Do I need to change the default tty somewhere?
Additionally, I want to configure some type of desktop manager to work with X but cant find a way to run either KDM (no KDM config in evidence on system) or Gnome.
Is Xsun what I need to be running on a sparc system or should I run Xorg?
(Or is Xorg only for Solaris X86)
Because the original build of this box was without a graphics card, I am having to do this by hand.
Sorry for all the dumb questions but I've had a much easier time getting X to run on almost any other flavour of UNIX.
Any help or suggestionswould be much-appreciated.
    Tim

Why does the Ipad not play these videos. It plays others ok.
Does anyone know how I can overcome this problem please?

  • Yet another question about burners for iDVD 6

It's not my intention to be redundant and the question about which DVD burners are compatible with the most recent release of iDVD has been asked a few times since iLife '06 was released at MacWorld last week. Yet, though Apple has announced it, why have they not posted a list of compatible devices?
Or, is the onus on the manufacturers to certify that their burners are compatible with iDVD 6?

Hi, I would highly recommend the Presonus Firebox. I use a Yamaha 01x for my main system but wanted something for my PowerBook out of the studio. I tried many interfaces and decided on the FireBox for a couple of reasons. First it sounds great. It has nice sounding inputs and lots of headroom. It is Class Compliant with OS X which means there are no drivers to load and supported at the OS level. That's a great thing, it just shows up in the Audio MIDI Setup and works rock solid. Plus it's a quaility build and nice and compact. It's at the top of the price range for that class of interface but well worth the extra money. I really wanted something that just worked and sounded great.
    Hope that helps,

  • AVCHD or HDV..Yet Another Discussion

    Hello all,
Yes I am still struggling with this.
I have been downloading AVCHD footage and converting to mpeg and for the most part it edits well on my Alien M17 Quad Core, even though it hicups now and then. My biggest struggle is the conversion time:
    - Using AVS4You, it takes about 5 minutes to convert 1 minute of native AVCHD footage to Mpeg. That would be 5 hours for 1 hour of shooting!! That is what I am struggling with the most. Yes an hour of HDV footage would probably take me 90 minutes of real time to bring into PE7. So why would I want to wait 5 hours for AVCHD. It seems that the SD convenience gets thing overshadowed by the long conversion time. Plus, from what I understand, HDV is a proven workflow in PE7.
Is there a faster converter? Am I missng something here? Should I ask for a logical decision from Dr. Spock?
Ed, I know you are going to way in on this. Any other thoughts from the forum would be greatly appreciated, because I am getting ready to pull the trigger on the Canon XH-A1 HDV camera.
    Thanks, Stan

I'm oddly comforted by the fact that AVCHD is in such a state of disarray right now.
I kept thinking they're be some clear-cut answer and kept getting frustrated that I couldn't find it / figure it out.
Now, I've come to understand the problem isn't me... it's AVCHD. Seems to be a complete mess of incompatible implementations and huge PC editing demands.
Frankly, I'm not thrilled with either option.
HDV is a reliable, proven workflow. But it's tape-based (a minor annoyance - I've been living with tape for 20 years), requires separate timecode splitting (why on earth isn't PRE doing this, seriously, how hard could it be?), and is only 1440x1080 resolution. Oddly, I've seen references to 1920x1080 HDV but also references to the fact that that would impossible since the spec only supports 1440x1080... hmmm.
AVCHD seems like it's just not ready for prime-time. The hard drive and flash drive media are definite plusses, but the format itself... maybe in a few years?
If I had to pick the least objectionable, I'd go with HDV.
But, sadly Steve may be right. I looked on Sony's website the other day, and every HD camera was AVCHD except their shoulder-mounted pro version (yeah, I want to carry THAT around DisneyWorld).
So, quite frankly, I may just wait until the AVCHD world gets it act together before I part with my $$$. Dunno......

  • Wifi greyed out...yet another post about this.

One of a million posts about this same issue.  I have iphone 4S with iOS 7.  My phone has been going along just fine.  On Sunday, I was on it, using wifi,
off and on all day long.  Sunday night, my connection to it on my phone was acting a little weird (slow/not connect/or drop in signal).  I tried turning my router/modem off and then rebooted thinking it was that.  Still acting strange, so I turned my phone off, let it sit for a minute, then turned it back on as that has
worked before.  Well, when I did that, now my wifi button is "greyed" out and can't be turned on.  I've tried the reset network connection about 5 times----with airplane mode on, with airplane mode off, with cellular data on, with it off, etc etc etc.  I won't do the hairdryer/refrigerator trick because I don't want to make it worse.  I've had the phone about 14 months so it's clearly out of warranty and I'm not paying $200 to have it repaired.  So now, it's no better than a flip phone as I can't use any apps without it going against my data usage.  What a crock.  I can't believe Apple, whom I've trusted and with the advice of friends, would put out
something that does this.  Apparently this is not a new problem as I've seen others' posts about this happening with iOS 6.  So any other solutions?

Oh I forgot to mention that on the Easy Access it says my wifi is on but at the top of the phone it still says 4G.  So is it on or not?

  • Yet another post about problems with a Zen Mi

So the deal is everytime i try to put music onto my micro it says it's busy or not connected, but i know it is connected and i know my USB ports are fine, i can however make it work temporarily if i reformat it from recovery mode, but that of course deletes all my songs, im pretty sure i have the firmware i'm supposed to .....02.05..... but im not for sure, and also i did see on one of these threads that someone had bought a new usb cord and that fixed their problems, but i'd rather not waste the money if it wont fix it, any input would be very much appreciated

Well believe it or not, i did do my research and i looked through the FAQ and many many other posts about micro problems, and i know that the computer is not the problem, and for anyone who has made a similar post in the past and fixed the problem please let me know because on pretty much every thread i looked at the problem was not resolved, or at least not posted as resolved, but once again my main question is could it be the USB cord?
