Yet Another iTunes Install Failure

Before you refer me to other topics, please hear me out. I have looked at many of them, and their problems have been solved. Mine? Nope. I just started a topic about my iPod not being recognized by iTunes, but this time I installed AppleMobileDeviceSupport then installed iTunes. This version is different, judging by the install screen. Just like my other computer, the installer finishes and says "The Installer encountered errors before iTunes could be configured." I hate this! It happens to me everytime. I tried reinstalling, deleting the installer and re-downloading, using the Windows Program Cleaner software, etc. but same thing.
I'm hoping for a response by the next Super Bowl... XD
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm just ready for all these errors to stop happening!

If it makes you feel any better I am having the same exact issues, and I've tried everything I can too. After reading about people's libraries disappearing though, maybe I don't want to upgrade!!!

  • Yet another Itunes won't open, but shows in TAsk Manager

Yesterday I was loading some new music into itunes (6.0.1 I believe), when the application froze. I ended task on it and tried to restart. I got busy and forgot that I opened it, but when things slowed down I noticed that the GUI was not in my taskbar. My computer was REALLY slow, so I check Task Manager and it saw Itunes listed, taking 40meg of memory and 99% of the CPU. I could do nothing to get it to work. THERE IS NO ERROR MESSAGE DISPLAYED! I get the agreement screen, and a quick hourglass, but then nothing except a very slow system.
    Steps taken so far:
    - Removed Itunes and quicktime using recommended method from apple.com. This invloved deleting temp files, itunes and quicktime folders, etc.
-Reinstalled both quicktime and itunes 7.0.1.
-Searched for malware with AVG spyware remover.
-Scraped registry after YAU(yet another uninstall)
-REmoved music folder of the album i was loading.
I am running Win2003 Server with Network Associates Virus Scan Enterprise edition. I do have admin rights on my local machine, even though it is a work machine.
Please, any help would be appreciated. This is really swinging the love-hate Apple relationship back to hate.
Not really, but I am sad.

I solved this myself. Very strange...but the CD I was trying to burn the itunes first crashed was still in the CD drive. So I guess it kept trying to read it...and locked up.

  • Itunes install failure - HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\.aif\OpenWithProgIds

    Hi Guys,
I am admin on this machine. I have tried regedit as suggested for the .cdda error (1402 1406 errors) with the .aif\OpenWithProgIds entry, but have had no luck
    1. There is no key within this subdirectory (Get error - 'Cannot Open OpenWithProgIds: Error while opening key')
    2. Trying to update the permissions meets with failure as there is nothing to update the permissions on. I have checked on the .cdda entry and I can do this no problem).
The full message I am getting while trying to install is:
    Could not open key:
    HKEYLOCALMACHINE\Software\Classes\.aif\OpenWithProgIds.
Verify that you have sufficent access to
that key, or contact your support personnel.
    I do have adequate permissions.
    Please can you help?

This isn't really my thing but no one else has replied.
A few thoughts, if this is an upgrade, are you using the same account to do the upgrade as you used for the original install? If now it might be worth trying the other account.
Although you account has admin status, it might be worth logging in as THE adminstrator, if you haven't done that.
Although you don't have HKEYLOCALMACHINE\Software\.aif\OpenWithProgIds, you didn't say if you have HKEYLOCALMACHINE\Software\.aif - if you do it might be worth checking permission there.
If this is an iTunes 7.5 upgrade problem - you didn't say - it might be worth gettting the details to royb - see this post:

  • Yet another Itunes 8.2 predicament

I've read a lot of posts on here & elsewhere about problems with 8.2, but haven't seen this one yet.
Although iTunes seems to run a bit more slowly than before, it nevertheless appears to run smoothly... unless my ipod is plugged in.
If I start iTunes with the iPod plugged in, or plug in the iPod once iTunes is already running, it attempts to verify the iPod... and freezes. As if that weren't bad enough, iTunes then somehow fails to force-quit. It disappears from the screen and from Activity Manager, but remains in the Dock as if it were running. All attempts to force-quit fail. Then, if I don't shut down my computer soon, other programs begin to fail in the same way - it's happened to Firefox, and to two programs I found to try and replace iTunes until this gets fixed: Songbird and Floola. All showed the same behavior, after iTunes went down.
The icing on the cake - once this series of failed force-quits has begun, my computer will not restart or shut down. It goes to blue screen, then hangs. I have to force-shut down the computer any time this happens.
I guess I'm not looking for a fix, just want to see if anyone else has experienced this. BTW, before you ask, Disk Utility verifies the iPod drive, so I don't think the problem's there.
I know no one of consequence from Apple itself will read this, but I have to say... I've been an Apple user for 20 years now, but for them to work so hard to entice consumers into this closed-off ecosystem of interconnected hardware and software... and then release such a patently buggy and malfunctioning version of the software at the very heart of that entire ecosystem (I don't just mean my problem, but all the issues I've read about)... makes me wonder just who's running the show anymore, and if they're worth my time and money. All releases tend to have a few issues to be worked out, that's understandable; but this is just beyond the pale. This is just patently disrespectful to consumers. For shame, Apple.

I too have been a loyal Mac user for close to 2 decades. In the early years they were rock solid & upgrades received thorough testing before being released.
Oh for those early years. We mac users were smug with the knowledge that for the most part, frustration & serious issues were the domain of windows users.
Sad to say but I really don't see the difference these days. Bit by bit, Apple has taken on the same approach as Windows, that is, get it out there & let them tell you where the problems are. That would be fine if we paid windows prices but as everybody well knows, Apple is a premium product with supposedly superior, reliable performance. At least that's what the ads are still claiming.
How else to explain an itunes 8 upgrade that destroyed all my music files?
That's a bug the size of Godzilla and as this discussion group has shown, it
    sure ain't an isolated case.
I know that itunes is free but we certainly pay for it with all the hardware & software that we pay a high dollar for.
Fortunately I had a backup library on another drive but even that less than a smooth process. I chose to just drag the entire library, folders & all into the empty library that had been deleted. Turns out some files copied ok while some didn't copy at all which meant that I had to manually go through all the songs to check & copy all those that were missing.
The problem is fixed but I'm still mighty peeved about the whole experience and the lost time.
I have refused to upgrade from 10.4.11 because of difficulties others had reported on upgrading. This itunes fiasco has convinced me to stay put. I fully agree with your end thought, Apple should be ashamed.

  • ITunes Install Failure (10.7)

I have a HP Laptop with a bit of an issue. It runs Windows 7 64bit, and hasn't had any issues till now.
I have a 4th gen iPod Touch. I let it update it's IOS to v6, only to find that was an error.
The version of iTunes I have installed is 10.5.1.42 32bit. This might sound strange, but the original version that was downloaded by Apple to this machine was, in fact, the 32bit version.
The trouble starts because the IOS requires iTunes 10.6.3 to access it. When iTunes tries to update, it doesn't download. So I manually went to iTunes.com and dl'd the lattest version it would let me have: 10.7 64bit.
When I try to install, the installer failes shortly after it starts, and tells me nothing has been changed. Tried this several times, to no avail.
So now I'm backing up 67gigs of iTunes data files, and hoping someone with a bigger brain than me in this situation can suggest a fix. I don't have any copy of iTunes 10.5.x to try a reinstall, and am a bit leery about UNinstalling just to give 10.7 another try. If it fails even then, I'll have no access to the Touch at all.
    Any bright ideas?

The version of iTunes I have installed is 10.5.1.42 32bit. This might sound strange, but the original version that was downloaded by Apple to this machine was, in fact, the 32bit version.
Doublechecking something. By any chance, did you use the PC Mover utility to move the iTunes application and your iTunes content from a 32-bit system to your current 64-bit system?

  • Itunes install failure

    Trying to install on my PC after receiving my brand new IPad2 yesterday.  Install fails due to Quicktime already installed.  I cannot figure a way around it.  Please help.;

Hi there - don;t know if this will help, but I have had to restore my computer several times and always have a problems with itunes after. I have just had the problem again and found this article. By following all the advice, I was able to get itunes back running again.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93976
The other thing to do is delete the Quicktime icon from your desktop toolbar. Also in the section which talks about Emptying your Temp Directory, my system would not let me do this as some files were "bring used", so I went into the temp folder and manually deleted any which related to itunes or Quicktime.
    Hope this helps.

  • Found another Leopard install failure

I bought the family pac to put pn my 4 Macs. I proceeded to install first on my oldest machine "in case". It is an blue G3 upgraded to a G4 with new chipset etc. Running at 1.2Ghz/2Gb ram and 2- 160gb HD. After going through the install twice I still end up with a machine that boots and immediately shuts down, can even get the command-S to work beyond a few lines on reboot. I've had to re-install Tiger twice just to have something to work with. I am now hesitant to move to my G4 PowerBook, or MacBook Pro, or iMac.
Any way to get the blue box to run Leopard?
    jcaruso

    Hi jcaruso-
Considering that particular machine is not supported I am not surprised.
Apple does not support upgraded CPUs. I think that there may be workarounds but it may be best to try it out on a supported machine first.
    Luck-

  • Yet another Yosemite install issue

So, I'm trying to upgrade from 10.9.5 on a 27" Mid 2010 iMac. I have downloaded the installer and everything seems to work fine. Until I actually start installing it. During 'Preparing to install" the load bar gets to 'one second left' and just stalls. Over and over again. Under different users. Yep, I've reset the PRAM, repaired permissions and such. Still not working. Any idea?

    http://www.coolermaster.com/products/product.php?language=en&act=detail&tbcate=22&id=2543
I use the above Cooler Master PSU, zero issues. Has 4 pci-e connectors, so it's ready for quad sli if I ever want to go that route with my P6n Diamond. Has lots of different connection options, highly rated PSU. Not all Cooler Master PSUs underperform, just have to know what you're buying. The above supply also has 2 8 pin connectors so for instance when my GTX 295 arrives I'll have no trouble (card uses 6/8 pin). Reviews also can be helpful.

  • ITunes update failure. Trouble accessing appData file iTunes64.msi

My Lenova will not update the iTunes software. The failure alert states iTunes64.msi not found.

    (1) Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility installer file (msicuu2.exe) from the following Major Geeks page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page).
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
Here's a screenshot showing the particular links on the page that you should be clicking:
After clicking one of the circled links, you should be taken to another page, and after a few seconds you should see a download dialog appear for the msicuu2.exe file. Here's a screenshot of what it looks like for me in Firefox:
Choose to Save the file. If the dialog box does not appear for you, click the link on the page that says "CLICK HERE IF IT DOES NOT". Here's a screenshot of the page with the relevant link circled:
When the dialog appears, choose to save the file.
    (2) Go to the Downloads area for your Web browser. Doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (If you're on a Windows Vista or Windows 7 system and you get a Code 800A0046 error message when doubleclicking the msicuu2.exe file, try instead right-clicking on the msicuu2.exe file and selecting "Run as administrator".)
    (3) In your Start menu click All Programs and then click Windows Install Clean Up. The Windows Installer CleanUp utility window appears, listing software that is currently installed on your computer.
    (4) In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
    (5) Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

  • Itunes installing error????????????????

encountered a network error when trying to read from file C:\Windows\Installer\ApplesoftwareUpdate.msi.
holy what is this pops up evry time i try to install itunes and then the installer just close.
    can any one help ?

hmmmmm. that's not an especially common error message.
okay, we'll try a strategy that can be helpful with other error messages referencing itunes.msi files.
first, head into your Add/Remove programs and uninstall your QuickTime. if it goes, good. if it doesn't, we'll just attend to it when we attend to itunes.
next, download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. use it to clear any existing itunes and/or QuickTime installation configuration information from the PC.

next, use the the following document as a guide for manual removal of leftover itunes and quicktime program files:

now try another itunes install. does it go through properly this time?

  • Why won't itunes install, update or function on a windows pc? two machines, windows 7 sp3

Itunes hasn't functioned for months, I have installed all updates, removed and reinstalled on two different computers. Still crashes on start

'There is a problem with this Windows Installer package.
A program required for this install to complete could not be run. Contact your support personnel or package vendor'.
Perhaps let's first try updating your Apple Software Update.
Launch Apple Software Update ("Start > All Programs > Apple Software Update"). Does it launch and offer you a newer version of Apple Software Update? If so, choose to install just that update to Apple Software Update. (Deselect any other software offered at the same time.)
If the ASU update goes through okay, try another iTunes install. Does it go through without the errors this time?
