Yikes! Can't see connected camera...

Oh, no! How screwed am I?
Just back from a shoot and suddenly my camcorder/firewire/computer connection is acting up: Camera says “DV in” when wired up, but software doesn’t see camera, and worse, Firewire drive is unaccessible (can’t open folders or navigate in Finder) until DV firewire cable is pulled; other Finder and app functions are stalled, too, when DV cable is in. The drive didn’t even show up when I booted up with the camera attached via rear FW port...until I pulled the camera. I’ll try another cable, of course, when I can find one, but could it be the culprit when that “DV In” shows up in camera screen?
Arrgh!
Appreciate any ideas (I already pulled batteries and reset camera...Canon GL2) It seems to record and play back fine.
Thanks,
dc

It's not your cable. I tried hooking up my GL2 directly to my computer a few years ago back when I was still using FCP 4.5 HD and I had the same result as you're having now. FCP seems to hate that camera no matter what version you're running. All I can suggest at this point is to NOT use a FW drive on the same BUS as the camera. Also make sure you've not changed any of the GL2's settings since the last time you used it as a deck. The reason everything stalls when you connect is because FCP has found your DV device but it can't communicate with it. Try FW basic in the FCP setup and see if that solves it (a guess).
Since you've stated that you've had success capturing using the GL2 previously, I would be very interested to know what the fix is.

You cannot see photos backed up in iCloud on your computer.
Camera Roll photos backed up to iCloud are still in your Camera Roll on your iPhone.
You need to regularly sync the photos to your computer. (then you can see them on your computer).
    -> http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1296
then delete them from your Camera Roll.
You can sync the photos you want on your iPhone back to your iPhone using iTunes.

  • I can't see my camera in motion

Hi! i already read some post about my problem, but I can't fix it yet.
I can't see the camera icon in the motion canvas. No matter if i zoom in or VERY out. No matter if i change the views, i still can't see it, i only see the framering and viewpoint handle. BUT! in my home computer i'm able to see my yellow outline camera icon, well i check put the preferences and they are exactly in the same way, so if somebody can help me put i'll be thankfully.

Ok, i start to click EVERYTHING in motion and i found it!!!!! to put the camera icon you need to check on the "3D scene icon" and "Show 3D overlays" in the view menu wich is just under the project bottom if you have the default layout. I hope this help to other peoples with the same tricky problem.

  • My Time Machine can't see/connect to my NAS Thecus

    Hello,
    I have NAS Thecus  N7700Pro V2.
I got it to be my network storage and I enabled teh AFP in my NAS to be able to use my Time Machine backup.
My current OS is Lion 10.7.5.
When I open teh Time Machine and try to connect it to my NAS it can't see it.
    Please advise.
    Thanks!

Thanks - that worked - although the solution requires a little updating which was mentioned further down that post. In summary it is now this:
    1. Create a sparsebundle image manually on your local system. Open a terminal window and enter:
hdiutil create -size $SIZESPEC -fs HFS+J -type SPARSEBUNDLE -volname "Backup of $MACHINENAME" $MACHINENAME_$MACADDRESS.sparsebundle
Where $SIZESPEC is the size of the backup volume (followed by the lowercase letter g if Gigabytes, e.g. 100g), and $MACHINENAME_$MAC_ADRESS is your Mac's name followed by an underscore and then your Mac's MAC Address (otherwise known as its Ethernet ID; visible in the Network System Preferences panel), but without the colons. So if your Mac is named MyMac, and the Network System Preferences panel lists your Ethernet ID as 00:18:b3:11:84:dd, then you would use MyMac_0018b31184dd for the name of the sparsebundle.
The -size parameter can probably be as large as you want, now that Apple has evidently fixed the sparsebundle issues that were causing all but the most recent backup to be dumped. However, you can also specify a smaller size if you (like me) want to create a hard limit for the amount of space your Time Machine backups will take on your network drive. hdiutil does have a -resize option if you need to utilize that later.
    2. Create and set permissions on your network share. Just make sure you have read/write permissions set on whichever SMB/AFP share you're going to dump this to.
    3. Copy the sparsebundle to the network share root. Easy enough. Mount your network share and copy it over. I used this Terminal command after the MyBackup share was mounted: cp -r mymachine_0017f2c8426b.sparsebundle /Volumes/MyBackup/. Or just use the regular UI to copy and paste (it worked for me).

  • I can't change "Connecting Camera Opens..." in Preferences

I'm running iPhoto 9.1.1 in Snow Leopard 10.6.7, but this problem was present in the last version of iPhoto. I don't know if I installed a plugin a long time ago, but I am now unable to change the "Connecting Camera Opens..." iPhoto preference under General. It shows a blank file icon and is unresponsive when clicked. See screenshot.
Anyone know how to fix this? Thanks.

Although that thread was different, it gave me an idea.
I decided to move the entire Preferences folder to the desktop and noticed that the problem was solved and I could once again edit the camera preference in iPhoto. However, I'm not going to trash over 1,500 pref files just to solve this problem. Nor am I going to comb through each one. So here's what I did:
I labeled everything in the ~/Library/Preferences folder red and moved half to the desktop. Then I launched iPhoto and checked to see if the problem was still there. If it was, I uncolored the pref files on the desktop, put them back, and checked half of the next batch. I repeated this process of halving batches of files until I found the offending files...
~/Library/Preferences/ByHost/<see screenshot below for trashed files>
Since there were 340+ files in the ByHost folder, I just decided to trash all of these pictured. AND IT WORKED!

  • Vi find resource can't see 1394 camera

use "visa find resource", can't see my fireware camera, only can see serial ASRL*,  but on Max, I can see it,
the same thing in CVI viFindResource, with setting /?*,   /FIREWIRE?*, only can see ASRL.

yes, the sony dfw-x700 in device manager of windows, MAX also can see it, and CMU 1394 demo application from Carnegie Mellon University can find the camera.
and I got a code from some where ,
//open a VISA resource manager session
        status = viOpenDefaultRM (&defaultRM);
//find the device in the system.
                status = viFindRsrc(defaultRM,
                "FIREWIRE?*INSTR",
                VI_NULL,VI_NULL,instrDescriptor);
suppose  it should return the fireware device ?
when I use "/?*INSTR", I can only see the Serial device.
what I want is directly using VISA to access fireware device without using imaq driver.                                                                       ,),

  • FCP 4 suddenly can't see my Camera

I'm using a Sony VX2100 via Firewire to my G4 iMac. Never had any probs until tonight. When I open FCP the pop-up window tells me that camera isn't connected or there's a config change. If I press Log & Capture the application quits.
I've opened iMovie and there's no problem there. I've also trashed my preferences but no joy. I did very recently upgrade from 10.3.6 to 10.3.9 - would this be causing the problem?

Did you also upgrade to quicktime 7?
#30 - Deck recognition after Tiger Upgrade:
    Shane's Stock Answer #30:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=1063600&#1063600
The credit for this goes to Bob Sidebotham:
I was just walked through a repair procedure by an Apple Care person, and it fixed my camera recognition problems (I have a Canon XL1 and sometime after installing Tiger, then 10.4.1, various patches (including Quicktime 7.1) and the latest Desktop Video patch, I've been unable to use the camera with Final Cut Express, and attempts to capture would result in a FCE crash).
The workaround is to download Quicktime manually, after removing the "receipts" which indicate that it is loaded. Specifically, I was told to do the following:
    1. Navigate to Library -> Receipts on your main drive (not from your personal folder).
    2. Remove all files of the form QuickTime*.pkg, where "*" is a version number. E.g. QuickTime600.pkg, QuickTime650.pkg, Quicktime700.pkg and QuickTime701.pkg. This simply tells your system that those packages are not installed.
    3. Go to http://www.apple.com/quicktime/downloads and click on the "download Quicktime" link. DO NOT USE THE AUTOMATIC UPDATE UTILITY. Download QuickTimeInstallerX.dmg. Double click this file (probably on your desktop) and then invoke the installer by double clicking QuickTime701.pkg.
    4. After your computer reboots, you should be able to restart FCE and see your camera.

  • Can't see the camera icon!

When I select the camera, I don't see the small camera icon. Instead, I see the three circles for rotation and the middle circle for the axis. Where is the camera icon? Also, How do you change the camera axis? I would like to move the axis away from the camera.
    Thanks

Look in the view button on the upper right of the canvas. Make sure that 3D overlays and 3D scene icons are checked.
You can change the axis of the camera in the camera tab. A viewpoint camera will have the axis on the camera body itself, while a framing camera will have the axis in the middle of the viewable frame of the camera.

  • Can't see the camera wireframe / icon in views

This might sound strange - and there probably is an easy answer to this question.
I'm looking at all of the alternate views in Motion 3 (ie. top, right,..) and I cannot see the yellow camera wireframe in any of the views.
I've made sure that all of the view options are checked and they are... but the camera still doesn't show.
Any help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks

I did the typical "trash the preferences", and it worked. I would have sworn I had tried that before I wrote here, but I sometimes forget what machine I was having the troubles with.
Unfortunately I lost my preferences, and this is just a kludge and not yet a fix.
Hopefully my new 8 core showing up fixes everything. <snicker>

  • Can't See iPhone camera roll in iPhoto

I've recently taken a couple of photos on my iPhone 4S, plugged it into my Mac and opened iPhoto so I can import them to my Mac, but I they're not appearing.
Can't find any solutions to this anywhere.
    Anyone know the issue?

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In Library Manager it's the FIle -> Rebuild command)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

    TD

  • Yosemite can't see connected iPhone in Finder

After upgrading to Yosemite I cannot longer access the iPhone Pictures or Video from the device itself when connected via USB. Basically is nowhere to be found in  Finder.
    Am I missing something?
    Thanks for the help!

Media on iPhone is not, as it has never been, accessible from a Finder window. Use iPhoto or other Import app to access and import media from your iPhone to your Mac.
